OA Rant
I just heard of an OA friend who is in rehab...again and it reminded me of why I don't go to OA. My abstinence is too precious to risk it going to OA. I'd been going to OA meetings very regularly for about 3 years, had had a few different sponsors when I finely read the following from the dr.s opinion that says "the body…

Intermittent fasting
I’d like to here from others that are doing IF and how it works for them. Been keto for 3 years and started doing IF for 12 hours a day about a year ago. I kind of like it so I’ve been doing an experiment to get up to 18 hours a day. Funny thing is that it works just fine and I’m not starving when I have my first…

Down 85#, It’s all about insulin resistance
Here's the short version of a long story. In 1995 I was 250# with over 35% body fat and those were the least of my health problems. What was more problematic is that I had fatty liver, leaky gut, an intestinal candida infection, diareaha every morning, was highly insulin resistant, had a rash all over my body. The worst…

MAF running
Anyone on this koolaid? I’ve been doing it for over a year and love it. The only draw back is the the MAF app is really buggy to the point where it’s not usable. I use an app called motofit and it works pretty well. https://philmaffetone.com/method/

How I lost 75# and got my health back
Recently several people have asked me what I did to loose all that weight (75#) and am often out in the sierra hiking +100 miles. I'm quite frankly shocked at how many people roll their eyes and don't believe what I tell them. Some even get livid and want to argue with me. If you have honest questions about what I've…

staying in the fat burning zone
SO.. I did a 4 mile run this morning at an aerobic fat burning pace (used a heart monitor) and my blood sugar was the 95 at the beginning and 95 at the end. what does that mean? My theory is that I was successful in achieving a workout that did not elevate blood sugar....in other words, I stayed in the fat bring zone.…

Slow the F down!
Two of my favorite health and fitness gurus got together for this great podcast episode. MAF Method: aerobic base building
Mark Sisson and Mark Allen have been all over this MAF stuff so I thought I'd check it out in more detail. Since I love running and I've not done it for a long time for fear of chronic cardio (which I have experienced) I'm going to try this as an experiment. Has anyone tried aerobic base building?…

MAF method: 4 steps to brining fat for fuel
Seems like there is alway some guy with a better way to do this out there but since this guys last book was co-written with Mark Allen last speaks volumes. Loren Cordain: origin of the western diet
I've read a lot about Loren Cordain (mr. Paleo) but never actually watched a presentation by him. Not sure I swallow this whole but great stuff none the less. http://youtu.be/5dw1MuD9EP4

Plateaued, frustrated and confused
I've got about 10# of belly fat to lose and have tried a bunch of stuff like carb cycling that hasn't worked. So I consulted a primal coach and now dropping protein to 120g, carbs to less than 50g, jacking up fat and cutting way back on caffeine.

Better Than a Marathon: One Mile Challenge
I PR'd today on the mile run at 7:33. This is really gratifying after years of being obese. Actually my weight is up about 10 pounds up from last fall but my time is faster. Yet another bit of evidence that weight alone is not a good indicator of my health. My weight being up is likely due to added muscle mass and…

Work out and food plan on carb refeed days
I'm curious what others eat on refeed days and how it relates to their workout. About once a week I do a tabata (HIIT) workout, alternately every other week between a stationary bike and burpees. On that same day I do a carb refeed, usually sweet potatoes, green banana and or some potatoe starch.

Stopping eating back calories
It's pretty clear to me that once an activity level is set in MFP, eating back exercise calories is double counting exercise so I record my exercise in a totally different app. Is there a way to record excercise in MFP and not have it increase the daily calorie goal?

Came over from livestrong because the app was so bad. Nice to see that things work here. I've lost about 80 pounds over the last several years. I'm paleo/ primal.
