Question about MapMyWalk / MFP Sync
Been using MapMyWalk for my daily 3 mile walks. A nice feature is the auto-sync with MFP, since both companies are under the UA umbrella. However, the calorie estimate is driving me crazy. It's giving me ~ 450 for a 50-55 minute walk, which is absurd. I can't find any way to reduce it. I can turn off the sync, but I WANT…

Anyone else getting friend requests from people with near-porn as their profile pics?
I've gotten four friend requests this week from profiles that were all created in 2014, with young women in various states of undress / come hither type poses and looks and so forth. I approved one so that people can see what I'm talking about. Anyone know what's up with this? Some online porn spammer created accounts…

Proform Pro 9.9 Elliptical
For reasons not worth getting into here, I've got a credit to put toward a Proform machine that will make purchase of any one piece equipment extremely inexpensive. We've already got a rower, treadmill, bike, and plenty of dumbbells, benches, and bands, so the obvious candidate is an elliptical. Looking at the Pro 9.9…

Suggestions for a watch for walking?
Looking into getting a watch for my walking. Things it absolutely must have are: heart rate monitoring, speed/pace, and GPS for distance. Things I don't care at all about and won't use are: sleep studies, step counting, email, phone calls, etc. I just need distance, speed/pace, and HR. I'd like to keep this under $150,…

Any advice on HR monitor?
So I want to get a HR monitor to pair with my bike, to bring a bit more precision to HR monitoring than the handlebars I've been using. I'm looking at a Polar strap for $90, and a bunch of watch type things for $20-$40. Obviously a difference in price, although I don't mind paying more for the right tool. Question is, is…

For those monitoring watts on an exercise machine, how many watts do you maintain?
I recently bumped up my watts on my bike from 75 to 85 for my one hour daily cardio and felt pretty good about that! Then I read online that most people exercise at 100-150. I've worked out at 100, which was OK, and 120, which I thought was too much. Just curious what others here find the right level.

Making some changes to my diet - input welcome/appreciated
Hey all :) So my wife and I have concluded after 15 months we are kind of burned out on the diets. I've gained a few lbs back, she is more or less holding on to her low but wavering. We've lost ~ 80 and ~ 70 pounds respectively. Our diets have lately entailed 500 calorie deficits and have always included 45-60 minute…

Workout shoes
Just curious if anyone is using New Balance 990v5's for general exercise, workouts, walking, etc. They are VERY expensive but I feel like it's time for me to up my game as far as footwear. I don't plan on doing any running/jogging, as I have an injured Achilles tendon. This is solely for walking and general purpose cardio,…

Time for an off meal!
Wife and I decided we were overdue for a serious no-counting off meal and made a stash of sushi tonight :) Things they won't serve you in a sushi restaurant, like filet mignon sushi. And lox-cream cheese-egg sushi LOL. But we also made the traditional shrimp tempura sushi, because why not. Didn't quite get to the end of…

Just gave up the daily weigh-in after 13 months....anyone else?
I weighed in every day for 370 days except for a four-day vacation in December. I felt in the first few months like it was really helping my motivation. It kept me from noshing at night, because I didn't want to wreck the next morning's weigh-in; that was the main thing. But then as I lost more weight, the loss rate slowed…

Thoughts/input on Healthywage.com?
Saw an ad for Healthywage.com on TV last night, this thing where you make bets on your weight loss and win pretty big payouts if you lose the weight, so I researched the heck out of it. I'm not asking "if it works" or "do they pay out". I'm satisfied that it's legit. For those not familiar with it, the payouts can be…

Ruminations on Shoe Size and Dieting
Now for something a little different ... So I bought some new shoes for the first time since I started dieting in June, 2019. I've always had big feet, men's size 15 4E (that's extra wide, 2E is normal "wide") I've lost 72 lbs and apparently I am now a size 14 2E, the 15 4E's I ordered are huuuuuuuuge. I have analyzed my…

Anyone know where the on/off switch is for adding exercise cals to the daily caloric quota in diary?
Been dieting on a TDEE basis for a long time - i.e. exercise "pre added" to a fixed daily caloric quota. Thought I'd try NEAT+exercise for a change of pace, but I can't find the toggle to have the exercise added into the diary - anyone know where it is?

Help needed with the Recipe function
There's got to be something I'm doing wrong, or don't understand ... So I go to Food -> Recipes -> Enter New Recipe to enter my American Breakfast recipe, which is simple and consists of eggs, butter, couple of Jimmy Dean sausages, etc. I give it a name, like "American Breakfast", and hit "Add Ingredient". I type "Jimmy…

Question about target heart rate
Generally speaking, is it better to do light cardio for an hour at 60 % of maximum heart rate, or 30-40 minutes at 70 %? I use an exercise bike for an hour each day at a comfortable, relaxed pace that puts my heart rate at 60 % of MHR, which for me, at 56, is 98-100 bpm. I've tried upping the resistance to get to more like…

Just had an incredible woosh
After a 17 day flatline, I woke up this morning to discover there was 4.6 pounds less of me than the day before! Normally I get these wooshes after a super hard core day of very low sodium, low carbs, low everything, and tons of water. But yesterday I ate: Chicken tandoori with a big pile of rice and side of channa masala…

Of plateaus and swooshes
Just a few words of encouragement for those finding themselves stuck in plateaus ... So I've been at this for about 7 months, during which I lost an extremely consistent 2 lbs per week for 4 months, until I changed up the #'s a little for 1.75 lbs/week, which was also running like clockwork for a while. And then right…

Thoughts on MFP's default macros?
So I just used the MFP goals tool again after plugging away for a while at the last set of numbers and, as usual, it defaulted my macros to Carb 50, Fat 30, Protein 20. I always immediately customize this to how I actually eat, which is 35/35/30. Just wondering if anyone uses MFP's defaults. 50 % calories from…

Thinking of changing my routine a bit. Input welcomed.
SW 330 CW 281.8 Lost: 48.2 lbs Average rate of loss since diet inception: 2.04 lbs/week So I'm coming up on the 50 lb landmark and thinking of making a couple of changes to my routine, which is currently: * 1600 calories (as per MFP, actually it says 1620 but I like even numbers) * 45 minutes of cardio * no scheduled off…

My respect for the MFP goals tool grows, yet again...
So, just took all my Libre weight data, MFP calorie and exercise data, and did a brand new number crunch for the 90 day period just ended. MFP says I need to eat 1620 calories per day to lose 2 lbs/week. I have been eating 1600 (plus my exercise, so that's a wash). Over the past 90 days, I have lost 26.2 pounds. That means…

Loose skin from dieting - any advice?
Wife and I have lost 40+ pounds and are in our 50's, and ... we're discovering that 55 year old skin isn't exactly 20 year old skin and there seems to be a looooot of it LOL. Especially thighs and stomach area. We're a bit bummed out because we both have 50 more pounds to go and cannot even imagine what that's going to…

How I managed to squeeze PF Changs into my cals and hit my macros for the day LOL
It definitely took some pre-planning. Couldn't do anything about the sodium, though ...

Just crunched 4 months worth of calorie and exercise data. Interesting result!
So, bored today, I decided to go through my last 4 months of MFP data and figure out what my true TDEE is. I opened a spreadsheet and put in all my calories consumed, exercise calorie burns per MFP's estimates, and scale readings. Then I: * subtracted my avg daily exercise cals from my avg daily calories consumed, and…

Sleep and weight loss
Being an erratic sleeper with a lifetime history of insomnia since childhood, I have always been interested in the effect of sleep (or lack thereof) on various health issues. Recently, as I've dived into dieting forums, I've discovered a plethora of comments to the effect that sleep has a huge impact on weight loss. I…

Anyone else doing Mighty Meals?
So my wife and I are both amateur chefs, and that was a huuuuuge problem as far as our weight goes, because every dinner was a fattening feast and we'd end up eating until all the food was gone. We decided to try a meal service, at least short term, to get our portion sizes and expectations under control - i.e. to learn…
