False advertising
Sometimes I feel like suing MFP for that "if every day were like today..." blurb when I have logged all my food. Five weeks later and nope, I wish!

Peroneal tendonitis
Has anyone else had this and how long did it take to get better? I am itching to run again and wondered what people found helped the most in recovery?

Has anyone had this???
My ankle (near inner and esp outer ankle bone) hurt when I walk barefoot or in flat shoes, but the pain goes if I am in heels???

Anyone else on here have SVT or other arrhythmias?
I have had SVT for about 15 years, and the episodes became longer and more frequent at the end of 2008, sometimes requiring adenosine. I started Nadolol 40mg in May 2009, and have recently (Christmas Eve) stopped the medication. I originally cut down to 20mg in September 2011 to improve fitness, then when my resting heart…

Achiles pain or something else?
I have been transitioning to barefoot running after having no end of issues with various running shoes. Up till a few days ago it was all perfect - no niggles. I ran for 25 minutes on Sunday (on soft grass) with no pain and felt fine after. Yesterday I did the same but now have niggles either side of my foot towards the…

Knee pain during burpees?
Today I did 4 sets of 25 burpees. The frist two sets were fine (apart from thinking I was going to need to call an ambulance!) but during the lat set my knee twinged and is still sore hours later. I have iced and strapped it, and there is no pain walking, but if I walk downstairs or squat time it twinges on the very bottom…

Logging burpees??
I don't usually log those sort of exercises but just did 4 sets of 25 and it damn near killed me so wondered if I can claim it anywhere. Heart rate nearly went through the roof!

Swimming question
Hi everyone. I used to be a competitive swimmer (in my long ago youth!) and have recently got back into it. I usually swim between 2 and 2.5km each session, and a mix of freestyle, backstroke and breastroke (with maybe two laps of butterfly) Today I did 2km (1.25miles) in 36 minutes and wondered if that is considered…

Death by swimming!
I am a former competitive swimmer so enjoy the sport. However, I find I love doing it, feel great immediately after, but then about an hour or so later I suddenly feel wiped out. No other exercise has this effect on me, even ones I find more taxing at the time. Does anyone else experience this after a swim. I usually swim…

Success!
RAPT! I have struggled with knee pain for the last few months and every attempt at running has ended with me back at the physio's office. A few weeks ago I decided to try barefoot running as a desperate last ditch attempt. (I have always hated running but once I think I can't do something my inner stubborn ***** is…

Urge surfing!
No it is not a cardio exercise, it is a technique used for resisting urges to binge etc. I have found it useful in my quest to cut down on chocolate, and have gone from eating it nightly for 20+ years, to now being on day 24 without any! http://www.mindfulness.org.au/URGE SURFING.htm http://www.aliceboyes.com/urge-surfing/…

Minimalist shoes
I have recently taken up barefoot running and it has saved me from pain! I had 3 goes at C25K and all had to be aborted within 2 weeks due to knee pain. So in desperation I switched to shoeless and can now run 25 minutes nonstop. All my running is currently done on grass, but I am wanting in the future to be able to run on…

Any barefoot runners out there?
I have tried the C25K programme twice before and both times crashed out. The first time I think it was from expensive but wrong for me shoes, and the second time I possibly pushed too far too fast. I have just started it again from week one day one, and this time will stick to the programme and not be impatient. While I…

Macro calculations
I have read a few places that suggest 1g per lb of lean bodyweight protein, 0.45-1g per lb bodyweight fat, and the rest carbs (please correct me if I have misread) However, I am stumbling over the fat intake as this would have me on close to 50% fat which doesn't seem healthy???
-
Using protein for energy
I have recently made more effort to up my protein to a good amount, and in doing so this has resulted in less carbs. Without getting into a debate on the merits of carbs, my question is this: how does the body use protein for energy? Is it as readily available and accessible for energy during exercise (such as longish hill…

If "starvation mode" exists then....
can someone explain anorexics?! I am not trying to be facetious or stupid, I am genuinely interested in the answer. I have read a lot about adaptive thermogenesis, and am wondering how or when it kicks in, especially in the light of the fact that people such as anorexics who drastically reduce their intake lose weight at a…

How to strengthen ligaments and tendons??

Weight loss without cardio?
Ignoring the obvious cardiovascular benefits of cardio exercise, has anyone lost weight or achieved improved body composition just through dietary changes and strength training? If so, what sort of strength programme was useful?

What difference will it make.....
When you have reached your goals?? And you can't cheat and say "I will be more confident" because that isnt an end in itself eg what will you be able to do differently if you DO have more confidence?? For me, I will be healthier and thus able to be more active with my friends and children, and do things without being so…

For those who do NOT believe in starvation mode
As in the way it is sometimes pushed as something that occurs at high levels of body fat, or misquotes or misinterprets the Minessota starvation study..... What convinced you it doesn't exist the way it is spoken about on these boards?? NB - this is not a thread to debate SM, it is to hear from those who have their doubts…

Recovery heart rate
Are there guidelines for time taken for exercise heart rate to return to normal resting rate? I am 41 so my theoretical maximum heart rate is 179. I often hit over 90% of this during exercise so wondered what parameters there are for recovery.

Mindless!
I am on day 5 of 21 chocolate free days (special occasion/personal satisfaction etc). One thing I have realised is that nearly all of my eating of junk food is done mindlessly ie while I am watching tv, on the internet, reading etc. I don't think I ever eat so called bad foods in a focused way ie when sitting down and…

Week 2.5!
Has anyone else slotted in in between weeks? I have just finished week two, but due to recent knee niggles and doing it barefoot I am thinking of putting a half way step week before advancing to week 3. Thinking of doing 2 mins run 3 mins walk on the first day and edging up if all goes well. Just wondered if anyone else…

Logging tennis??
I just played 40 minutes against the wall, and am guessing the closest activity on MFP is singles tennis? Has anyone used a HRM and compared tennis against the wall with a game of singles - am guessing the wall is potentially higher as you are almost doubling the amount of hits.

Good pain or bad pain???
I am on week 2 of c25k doing it barefoot. Had a bit of a niggle on top of foot and inside same ankle, and has moved up to knee. This has happened in between last run 5 days ago and now. Had massage today and did week 2 day 2 tonight. The pain while running was probably a 1 or 2 out of ten so I am wondering if its just pain…
