Pre- and Post- Workout Meals
What does everyone eat for pre- and post- workout meals? I need to get better about these and since I did a morning workout (for the first time EVER) today (and I LOVE it!), I was pretty good. Oatmeal w/ blueberries before workout, 2 hard boiled eggs (w/ 1/2 yolks) after. I'm getting a protein powder later this week to…

Question about Gymboss Interval Timer
I would really like to get an interval timer and have heard wonderful things about the Gymboss. I checked their website though and it says "1 or 2 intervals" and I see that I can repeat that interval up to 99 times. I understand this to mean if I want to walk for 4 minutes then jog for 1 minute and repeat for 45 minutes,…

Over 100 Workout Songs
I posted a blog with over 100 songs that I like working out to. The formatting screws up when I try to post it so, if you're interested visit my blog for the list: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Gerkenstein/view/over-100-workout-songs-39119

Saturday Anniversary Menu...need help!
This coming Saturday is mine and my husband's 6th wedding anniversary. We're going to a swanky place and I'd like some help with what to order. So, below is the menu. I would like to at least try the lobster mac & cheese and we will most likely split a dessert. Please help me decide what would be the best options while…

Could really use a boost
I've been doing great increasing my workouts (intensity, length, weight, etc.), but food has really been a struggle for me this week! I know I need to be planning ahead more, but even when I do, I've given into temptations more than usual this week. Nothing else really going on under the surface, but could really use a…

Lunch Dilemma! Need help!
I was running late today so I quickly packed 2 pb & j sandwiches for lunch. Well the carbs, sodium, and cals are through the roof (cals=690, carbs=99, sodium=785)! The 3 crunchy taco fresco meal I get at Taco Bell is healthier than this (cals=450, carbs=13, sodium=495)! I haven't really budgeted to eat out today though.…

Too many workouts?
I don't think I'm working out too much, but I'm worried I've "committed" to too many types of workouts! I have a bootcamp with friends and a trainer on Wednesdays, I recently bought Turbo Jam, I have a gym membership, I use kettlebells and do other calisthenics at home. I'm a little overwhelmed by my options! I know…

Cheap Bosu Ball?
I've been using a Bosu Ball lately in some workouts and I love it! I would love to buy one for home, but they seem to be about $70! My next big fitness purchase is going to be an HRM so I won't be able to afford this too. Does anyone know where I can find one for cheap (other than amazon and craigslist)? Or is anyone…

Concerned advice I was given
A friend of mine is a personal trainer/nutritionist and I've started a "bootcamp" with her on Wednesdays. She is a very credible, reliable source and I trust her. She asked what I ate last Wednesday and I told her (feel free to check my diary) and she said it was too many carbs (which it was a lot that day). She then said…

Needing help for sister's boyfriend
The subject may sounds odd, but my sister's boyfriend is a candidate for a face transplant. We are planning a HUGE fundraiser to help him fly to Boston (from Indianapolis) for numerous evaluations (starting in August) until the actual transplant, which, obviously, we don't know when will take place. You can see the story a…

What was your "A-ha!" moment?
I didn't really have a trigger, I just realized I'd be so much happier. What changed your mentality? What's made you stick with it? How do you deal with others around you, loved ones, living like you used to?

Are restaurants in the USA required to have nutritional info
I'm trying to get the nutritional info from one of my favorite restaurants, but they said "Unfortunately, nutritional information isn't available due to the changing nature of our dishes and available produce." It is not a chain restaurant. Are they required to have nutritional info? If it's a state law, I live in Indiana.

Blah! I'm in a slump :(
Not a plateau, but definitely a slump. Yes, my work switched to 4, 10 hour days which may be part of it, but this last week, I've just been exhausted and unmotivated! Not sure what's going on. Hopefully I can turn this around soon because I've been so excited about the progress I've made and don't want to undo it. I have…

Guilty about splurge?
I wonder if people feel guilty when they splurge? I had a splurge meal today and I can't tell if I feel guilty. :ohwell: I know it wasn't a healthy decision, but I was great all week, had just completed a goal and I'm not feeling any struggle to get back on the wagon and do good again. I'm also going to workout today and…

CHALLENGE ME!!! New weekly goal?
I feel like so much of my success is because I've had something to strive for each week. One week of no fast food, then no eating out all together (did all the cooking & it was awesome [see blog]!!!). I'd like some ideas for my next goal. Please keep in mind I'm making baby steps so to say "Be vegan for a week" is very…

FRUSTRATION W/ SISTER!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love my sister (I have 2, but this is only about one of them right now). But she needs some tough love. She, like me, is "morbidly obese." She, too, has tried to lose weight before and failed. She's a SAHM to 4 kids all under the age of 7, but is not active with her kids (more watches them be active).…

Cheap Containers for Kitchen Organization
I wondered if anyone had an organization system in place in the kitchen using containers and labeling for all of your dry items in the pantry. If so, can you recommend a place to get good, cheap containers in bulk? Or a brand of containers you think are reliable? Also, do you wish you would've gotten a larger/smaller…

Struggle with spouse not on same page
This may be a personal question, but I wondered if anyone else struggled to "motivate" their spouse in making healthier life choices. My husband and I are both at the largest we've ever been and when we first met 7 years ago he had just lost 50lbs and I about 15, both at our smallest adult weight. He's very supportive and…

Personal Training question
I'm seriously considering getting a personal trainer. I'd really like to hire a friend of mine who I know from our teenage years, but she's really made a name for herself (she is a figure competitor and fitness model) and has a private studio where she trains. The issue is the $$$. I'm posting her rates below because I'd…

Fiber tips
I was reading this blog and while I certainly don't think fiber is a "miracle" aid to losing weight, I thought these tips were helpful and thought I would share. It's the little things...
Last night I was so pumped to come home and fix my meal only to find that my dog, who I love very much, had completely destroyed a Hefty bag of garbage across our entire apartment. Needless to say, my spirit was bruised and self-control wavering. My husband was going to be home soon so I called him to pick up food on his…

Cals/day
I'm a little concerned about my cal/day "prescribed" by my doctor. I'm 5'8", 285lbs, exercising at least 30 mins. per day (intensity varies) and Dr. has me at 1800 cals/day. I've been doing okay on it (only about a week) and have been able to stay under it yesterday and today when I planned out my days and put my mind to…

EEK! First grocery trip today! Help!
I am making my first grocery trip today since starting this journey, FOR REAL. We never get snacks other than granola bars or fruit nor terrible junk food (mostly fast foodies) so I'm not terribly worried about going "off" plan or splurging. I'm more concerned about making the wisest decision with my money and calories.…

Best Fiber & Protein
Trying to get more fiber and protein in my diet (I hear it helps with weight loss, but not really sure why. If anyone knows this I would love to hear it, in layman's terms!). What are the best sources for these nutrients? Is there a certain time you should eat them (morning vs. eveing, after workout)?

What is wrong with me?!
I know my cycle (of gaining weight) has a lot to do with self-loathing, so that is not what I'm participating in when I say, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!?!? lol I joined MFP last Friday, 5/21/10, and have been doing a lot better for me. But my doctor put me on a 1800 calorie diet on Monday and I can't stay under it! After lunch…

Help! Less than 500 cals left!
So, I made a bad breakfast decision, but I brought my lunch. Plan on walking at least 30 minutes today so should have approx. 600 calories for dinner. Any ideas on something easy, quick, and healthy that I can have for dinner for less than 600 calories?

Something my doc said...
I had a doctor's appt. yesterday and something he said really hit home with me: "There's always another meal to look forward to." WOW! It may seem silly, but I just can't stop hearing that! I used to eat like I wasn't going to get another meal, like I'd NEVER be able to eat Taco Bell or ice cream ever again. Hearing him…

Dr. advice?
I just got back from going to the Dr. for a physical and blood work (no results yet). He put me on a 1800 calorie diet and said I should be walking 30 minutes almost everyday, which I am fine with. But he said I should only be losing about 3-4lbs. a month. This did NOT sit well with me. I know plunging in too fast, too…

Beginning workouts?
Hi Everyone! I'm new here and wanting a little extra push to succeed and stick with it for one complete week!!!! I know that may seem silly, but I don't tend to stick with things well so a week is an accomplishment! I would love some advice on workouts that were great motivation or helpful when you first started your…

New to MFP from Indy
Hello everyone! I'm Sarah. I started gaining weight around 13 or 14 years old, which happened to be when my parents divorced, but stayed a size 16 (180 lbs.) for most of high school. I was always athletic and active, played a lot of sports and was really involved in music and theatre in school. But after I graduated high…
