I'm trying to get the nutritional info from one of my favorite restaurants, but they said "Unfortunately, nutritional information isn't available due to the changing nature of our dishes and available produce." It is not a chain restaurant. Are they required to have nutritional info? If it's a state law, I live in Indiana.

In Canada I’ve found only chains have nutritional information b/c the smaller restaurants just cannot afford to hire a nutritionist to do the calculations. Someone should really introduce them to online recipe calculators, I could do an entire restaurant in an hour I’m sure! Even then my favourite restaurant Moxies still doesn’t provide this info. and its HUGE!

When I was in In NYC I learned they are required to write the calories beside the food. I thought at first it was just in Subway but then at the Hard Rock. That’s their own state initiative to get people healthy.

The law varies by state/province and even if the area is in violation, how bad can the fine be? How many complaints are required before action is taken? Probably a looooooooong time!

    I'm in Indiana, too. :)

I believe it's a chain that has 20 or more that's required to have nutritional values made available. One of my favorite's, Cracker Barrel...doesn't have it posted on their site and their excuse is ridiculous, I believe. Obviously, they're more than 20 and nothing is posted. I don't know how they're not in violation.

Maybe if you contact the restaurant personally? Not sure.

A little off subject, here's something I'm going to be getting soon: "Nutrition In The Fast Lane" for about 7 bucks. The new revised edition is supposed to be out this month (June). I know I need something like this for weekends when hubby and I are out and about. You can find it at: fastfoodfacts.com
It's supposed to have total cals, cals from fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbs, proteins, etc listed. :)

Quick google look to answer your question, YES, a law was passed in Indiana to provide nutritional info February 2009.

It does mention "chains" are required to do this, perhaps others are exempt.
