So who gets the joke?
The past few weeks, since it's summer, I have been posting different things on the cubicles in my general work area. I'm an IT Project Manager. There is a conference room right near us and people waiting for meetings tend to not keep their voices down. It's quite annoying. So, since we estimate that 81.26975% of IT worker…

Song Lyrics for Switching from Strength to Weight-Loss Training
To commemorate this week, I am posting something I wrote several years ago. The Joys of Fitness Hello Atkins, my old friend I've come to eat like you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the smell of ketosis In restless…

A Call for a Low-Carb Diet That Embraces Fat
This was from a well-balanced NIH study. <Still preparing for incoming.> http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/02/health/low-carb-vs-low-fat-diet.html?ref=health&_r=0

Seven days -- 9.5 pounds lost
Re-started Atkin's for real. Strict induction (>20 carbs/day), reduced caffeine, no alcohol, moderate exercise. Have had plenty of energy, haven't been hungry except before meals and am down 9.5 pounds. I know this works. Why do I pretend otherwise? ... Well beside pasta? Still there will be time for that later, when I get…

Saturday was a 1722 calorie day ...
... of exercise. I burnt 1044 at the gym, followed by 698 while gardening. My muscles are finally getting strong enough to allow me to do some serious cardio. :) Sorry, but just had to share, it felt so good.

Waist is now 3 inches trimmer in just 4 weeks
Per some comments on here, and elsewhere, I really started hitting free weights hard (and major crunches). Working out harder and more efficiently than with machines. Definitely building muscle tone, and since muscle takes more calories than fat, it's starting to pay off. Only five pounds down so far, but I'm not too…

Dockers pant sizes are wrong. I mean really wrong.
Okay, I know the old joke that they call them Dockers because they don't want to call them "pants for overweight men." But I 'was truly surprised by how far the difference is. I'm 6'4" and overweight, but I wear between a 36 and 38 pant size in Dockers. As part of my wife and my weight loss and exercise efforts, we started…

Ten-minute Cardio Rule
One of my cousins developed a rather good, to my mind, cardio work-out motivation rule. She tells herself, when she isn't really up for it, that all she has to do is work out for ten minutes. If she wants to quit after that, she can. Occasionally, when you're really sick or out of sorts, you might, but most of the time,…

I couldn't eat breakfast
Well, I am changing I suppose. For the last two weeks, generally all I have eaten for breakfast is an Atkins bar. Well today, I decided to give myself a treat for this diligence (and the loss of nine pounds in a week) by having a Jimmy Dean meat lovers breakfast bowl. It still only has 15 carbs so not terribly bad, but I…

106 Degrees and 60-minute walk
The cool breeze helped, but wow! it was a challenge starting out. So very glad I did it though.

I'm at my lowest weight in over two years
Officially, I'm 15 pounds down from my re-start, but I weigh 20 pounds less then I did this time last year. Plus, on the scale today, my weight was just below a "0" in the ones column. Granted that it was XX9.8 and that a big glass of water would bring me over that threshold, the point is that I made it below and expect to…

Low carb and potassium
Does anyone have good recommendations for getting enough potassium while on a low-carb diet? I have no fear of dishes with sauces or seasonings.

Losing the cares, the worries and the pounds
I am a 45-year-old business professional, married with two kids (12 and 14). I have been a weightlifter and gym rat for decades. I was on my HS Ski Team and College Crew. My wife is also back in workout mode and both kids play school sports. I have generally been a fit person, but there have been a number of tragedies and…
