To commemorate this week, I am posting something I wrote several years ago.

The Joys of Fitness

Hello Atkins, my old friend
I've come to eat like you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the smell of ketosis

In restless dreams I did the math
Narrow strips of treadmill path
'Neath the sins of dinners past
I turned my dial to the hot and fast
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a “Finished” light
It was a joyous sight
And spoke the sound of panting

And in the bathroom mirror I saw
Ten pounds lost, maybe more
Pounds shed without my carbs
Pounds lost while eating tasty meals
Pounds being lost without pastas being shared
And no one dared
Disturb the stage of induction

"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Low–fat diets cause your waist to grow
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like beads of sweat fell
And echoed
In the wells of the weight room

And the pounds were lost and the waist began to fade
To the workout plan I made
And the scale flashed out its greeting
In the words that it was reading
And the scale said, "Congrats you have reached your weight-loss goal
Enjoy one pasta bowl"
And whispered in the joys of fitness
