Garmin vs Polar accuracy ?
Just picked up a Garmin Forerunner 310XT after using a Polar FT4 for the past year. I set it up, put in my information, connected my HRM, updated the software, and set out for a run. It reported my heart rate to be a substantial difference of 10-15 BPM lower than it had been on the exact same run the day before with the…

hydration belt during marathon ?
I need to decide if I'm going to wear my hydration belt during my marathon and I'd love some opinions... pros: I want to have nutrition & liquid available anytime, and I also don't want to have to be forced to stop at a crowded hydration table if I don't need anything at that moment. cons: Of course it would be more…

Do you share with your partner?
I've only very recently started to talk to my significant other about my BED. I don't LIKE talking about it, at ALL :) I hate it. I'm a very private person especially when it comes to my weaknesses. So, I want to tell him today that I've fallen off the bandwagon for the past week and that I could use some help. I know he's…

Tilted hip leading to running pain
So, I'm being told that due to my scoliosis, the right side of my hip leans forward and this causes some pretty bad pain after a run. I'm due to see a physical therapist within the next month, and I'm anxious to see what they have to offer! I want to run a marathon in just 18 weeks and I really need to get this treated!

Runners: how long to de-condition after stopping?
I spent 8 weeks running 4-5 days a week resulting in running 13 (ended 2 weeks ago). Since starting that training, my endurance levels have been absolutely amazing!! I feel like a beast!! However, now I've abruptly stopped and do very little running (rather, 4 days of lifting, hiit, trail runs - not really endurance…

Just tell me it's possible (2+ hours on a treadmill :)
We're having a crazy snowstorm and I need to run 13 miles tomorrow as part of my training. Has anyone done it on a treadmill- & in the gym? I need some success stories to refer back to mentally when I'm doing this tomorrow. It's going to be BORING, probably STUFFY, and people are going to look at me WEIRDLY! :)

Started Higdon's intermediate 1 this week
My 1st Marathon is May 4! (several months earlier than I had originally planned due to my running partner's insistence) On week 2 of the 18 week plan! Feel free to add if you're doing the same!

Ha.. seeing my crazy ribs for the first time!
I am heading down to my lowest weight that I've been in my adult life (had my surgery when I was 16) and I'm seeing my deformed rib cage pop out now that it's not covered by fat- it's kinda cool!!!! In its own way.... =P

Race route is back and forth on same course
Is that lame? I'm dreading it. You will spend the ENTIRE race running opposite those who are head of you, and possibly be able to see that not many people are behind you when you turn around to go the other way. I'm not one to focus on how other people are doing - I'm good about just focusing on myself. But this seems like…

week 2 (of 18) of Higdon's Intermediate 1 & lifting
I'm on week 2 of Hal Higdon's intermediate plan for the marathon. Monday's cross training day = lifting & then I will lift again on thursday's short run day. I'm looking forward to maintaining muscle, continuing to lose 20-40 more lbs, and dominating the race. MAY 4! I welcome friendly advice - and likeminded friend adds!

giving up strength training for marathon prep
I am considering a marathon in 2014, but would need to give up essentially all strength training for 3-6 months in favor of running. I know I can always pick it back up, but that makes me kinda sad because I love doing heavy lifting. However, if I'm gonna do this at all, I'm thinking I'd like to do it at this point in…

Hello! Runner & Lifter here.
Hi all. Here's my scoliosis story... I had surgery for pretty bad curvature at 16. I can't remember the #'s now (I'm looking it up), but I remember the docs saying it was really bad and they had to operate immediately! Before the surgery I had SO much pain, some of it being debilitating and stopping me dead in my tracks.…

Pedicures and calluses
Do any of you prefer not to scrub your feet for the few weeks/months prior to a race so they are rougher? I have done no googling on the topic and have no idea what the standard is. I read somewhere that calluses are useful for long runs and that this particular woman blogger did not have pretty feet as a result. However I…

5 months to race day
Ran 6 miles today and it was pretty slow. I think about 11 min mile. It's gonna be a long road to race day!
