Protein shakes for non-athletes?
I'm not getting enough protein, and it's by quite a lot. I'm a vegetarian and I don't have an easy way to get more right now because of various reasons, and I know it's healthier to get it in real food, but I can't right now. My question is, are protein shakes okay for people who aren't trying to build muscle? I'd be using…

Protein all at once? (Or twice)
Assuming I need ~60g of protein a day (I weigh 170 and I'm basing it off of the recommended 0.36g/1lb), would it be okay or detrimental to eat two protein bars with 30g a day? I would get more in other meals, but my problem is I've been feeling exhausted for months and I'm trying to figure out the problem. I think it might…

Junk Food Diet
I don't know how to word my question. Usually I regret posting topics later, haha. Basically, is there any reason for me to NOT eat a moderate amount of junk? I mean, not everything is complete junk, but I eat a lot of frozen pizza, burritos, Oreo mega stuff cookies are heaven, etc. I eat nuts, peanut butter and jelly on…

Does it matter when you eat re working out?
I've read that to restore/build your muscles you should eat protein after working out. Does it actually matter when you have the protein? If I have a protein heavy lunch but don't work out until late at night and don't want to eat afterwards, will that still be okay?

HRM with Power90
Will the HRM be accurate if I start it when I start the stretches and end when I finish the video? There are a bunch of places where I imagine my heart rate would slow, then speed up, etc, and I guess I still don't understand exactly how the HRM calculates calories burned, so I'm wondering if it's accurate even if my heart…

Daily protein too high on MFP?
Women are recommended to get ~46 grams of protein a day, or 10-35% of their caloric intake (according to the internet...). So why does MFP want me to get 120 grams? I thought I needed to get a protein shake mix since I keep netting about 38g under, but that's still 82g, way more than women are supposed to need. Am I…

High calorie but low fat? Or healthy?
EDIT: Ignore title please. Basically I'm looking for high calorie foods (300-500) that consist of one or two items/ingredients that aren't super horrible for you. EDIT: You know what, just ignore this whole thing. When it goes down a few pages I'll try again and try wording my question better.

What in the world do you eat?! Help?
I've just changed my goal to 1600 calories a day, plus 400 exercise calories to be logged and eaten if they're done. I went in to put in my food for tomorrow (helps keep me on track to log ahead of time) and I struggled to fill 1600, then was at a loss for 2000 when I remembered exercise! What do you eat that fills the…

How does HRM calculate calories burned?
From what I understand it takes the highest rate you had while tracking and calculates your calories burned with that. Is this right? So it would calculate your calories assuming you had that highest HR the whole time. Wouldn't that mean it's over calculating? If I'm doing 30 Day Shred and have my heart rate up high then…

MORE TDEE questions, and Rate of Loss on TDEE
How do you figure out how much you'll lose in a certain time frame when following TDEE? If it says my BMR is 1600, my TDEE is 1950 according to fitnessfrog, on "Little to no exercise". I'll be logging any actual exercise as precisely as I can with a HRM so I don't want to calculate it with it since I don't know what it…

I want to start exercising but I don't know where to start
Eating at 1200 calories is starting to wear me out (literally; I'm getting tired ALL the time) so I want to start doing the TDEE plan a bit so I can eat like a normal human being. The only way that's going to do me any good though is if I start getting fit as well, instead of eating whatever as long as I was under calories…

HRM and Power 90 vs 30 Day Shred
1. A heart rate monitor should tell me exactly (or nearly) how many calories I burn doing anything, right? I'm just making sure I understand what it is before I buy one. 2. If it is, what is a cheap one that still works that you'd recommend? I'm a college student, I can't spend much. :\ 3. I am completely out of shape, but…

One more TDEE question
For the people eating at TDEE -20%, are you still losing at 2lbs a week? What calculation would need to be done to get 2lbs a week?

Iron Supplements, how much is too much?
When I track iron it says I'm getting 40-50 a day out of 100. I used to take an iron supplement but I don't remember how much it was. I know I'm low on iron; they often won't let me give blood because I'm low, I'm exhausted after long nights of sleep, and double that the week of/before my period. I went to get an iron…

5' 9'' Goals?
The "healthy" weight range for a girl 5'9'' is 125-170lbs. I think I have a medium build, but I have no idea how to determine that. I just know I'd probably be a skeleton at 125. This post is for two questions: 1, if you're a 5'9'' female, what's your final goal? If you've met your goal, where did you feel good enough to…

TDEE?
Today I learned a new term: TDEE. I read the road map post and another, but they flew over my head. I think I got the general idea, but not enough for it to do me any good. I went here: http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequire.html The results were: BMR: 1651 (MFP says 1641) Activity: 585 and Total: 2236 ***Where I'm…

I won't LET myself see results?
I have lost 45lbs so far, I'm 10lbs away from being in the healthy weight zone, then probably 20-30lbs until I reach my final goal. The problem is, and I think it's why I keep taking these "breaks" where I lose interest, is that I'm not really seeing the results. I KNOW they're there. 45lbs is a lot. Yesterday I wore a…

Back, looking for friends
I "took a break" from logging for a while, which is secret code for "didn't care for a while". I'm out of my slump and more determined than ever, and I'm looking for people to give and receive encouragement, etc... I'm a college student studying drama, 22 years old. I've managed to lose 40lbs so far, but with one or two…

Good Books and Movies
So, I read a lot. Mostly fiction for young adults, and there are a bunch of good LGBT+ books out there. (It helps working in a library, haha.) My favorites have been Alex Sanchez's "Rainbow Boys" series and John Green's "Will Grayson, Will Grayson." What are some of your favorite LGBT+ books? I've also seen a couple of…

cookies for a diabetic?
I want to make cookies to share with a group but one is diabetic. I know nothing about that other than it means no sugar. So if I wanted to bring frosted cookies, or something like that, does anyone here have a recipe that would work? And anything ielse I should take into consideration when cooking with a diabetic person…

Do burned calories differ in/out of shape?
Person A and Person B are identical in every way, except B is in better shape. Same height, weight, gender otherwise. They do the same exercise for the same amount of time, and in the end A is wheezing and doubled over, proclaiming imminent death, while A barely broke a sweat. Did they burn the same amount of calories?

How do you know how fast you were biking?
I bike from my apartment to school, and it's about 1.7 miles. Takes me about 10 minutes, but I've only timed myself once successfully. I'm sure there's some math that will help me but that's not my area of expertise, haha. Could anyone help me out there?

What to do with a bag of shredded lettuce?
I bought an extra bag of shredded lettuce last Sunday and I'm still not done with the first bag. It's going to go bad soon if I can't do something with it. I've been using the first bag on wraps for lunch, but I'm not using near what I thought I would, so I've got a whole bag and a half sitting in the fridge. So, I'm going…

Should I Up My Activity Level?
Posting in here as well... I'm on sedentary because I really was--my hobby is reading and I didn't do much else. Would this wrap keep for lunch? And black beans...
I need to take something to school with me to eat in between class, and I came up with this: Wheat tortilla Black beans Mozzarella cheese (or cheddar, depending on what I find at the store) Shredded Lettuce 1/2 avacado Would this keep for a few hours until I can eat it? There's a fridge I can store it in if I HAVE to, but…

Stovetop Popcorn--Oil Calories?
I want to make some popcorn on the stove, and I thought the calories would be pretty easy to calculate since I don't want butter, but I forgot about the oil. If it says to use a tablespoon of oil, for example, does the popcorn use the entire amount, and should I just log the calories for that amount of oil?

Will I be hindering weight loss if I ONLY do calories?
It's nearing the end of the semester and I don't have time to sit and log food. This site and its app is convenient, yes, but to find the foods is tedious sometimes, and heaven forbid I make food with several components, I'll be sitting there forever. (And yes I'll freely admit that all that is probably code for "I'm too…

How much caffeine? Is it worth it?
So, I need to write a paper, it's midnight and I expect I'll be up for quite a while, so I went by the store on my way home and grabbed a frozen cappuccino thing. I hate coffee, so I figured I could at least stomach that and get me through the night. I got a 32oz cup because that's what I put my water in (made sense at the…
