Should I Up My Activity Level?

Posting in here as well...

I'm on sedentary because I really was--my hobby is reading and I didn't do much else. Now, however, I'm back in school, and I'd like to know your opinion on whether I should switch to the next activity level.

I'm in school 5 days a week, some days I'll walk to or from school, which is almost 2 miles to my room. A lot of walking during the day even when taking the bus if I'm in a hurry or lazy that day. 2 days a week I'm in a class with a lot of physical activity--I usually go straight home and shower because I get sweaty, so I know that's doing something.

Does that sound like enough to be "Lightly Active" though? It takes me from 1200 to 1310, which I think will be good for me, especially on days with that active class.

What if I walked back every day; I think it only burns like 80 calories for 2 (1.7 really) miles? Should I put that as exercise or include it in my assessment of activity?

You could do that, or you could just log all daily activity. Your choice. :)

Right now I don't log ANYTHING, and I probably won't make time to, so there's that...

Jeez. It only bumps you up to 1310?? Set that baby to "active" and change your goal to lose 1 pound a week! Unless you're like 4 feet tall, it must be miserable eating 1200 calories a day with that much schooling and walking.

I think it's really up to you. I am a teacher and on my feet and running around the building all the time and I think I have mine set to "lightly active". Either way, it wouldn't hurt to log your walk to and from school as your exercise. It may not be much but it is something, especially if you don't do any other exercise or don't walk everyday.

There are several ways you can do it, but I keep my activity at sedentary and then log my exercise calories manually daily since that changes all the time depending on exactly what my workout is. It's a bit more labor intensive, but works well for me.

If you're not going to log your exercise calories, I'd definitely say you need to move up to "lightly active" or even "active." All that walking and physical classes burn more than 100 extra calories for sure!

School has made me to the opposite lol. I know I'm way less active during school, I'm on the computer more and reading more etc. I just log my exercise and my job (because I don't work very much) as exercise. To each their own....but I would think school would make you less active..but if you're not active already... I don't really know lol.
