Non Dairy/Meat food ideas?
Recently saw the documentary Forks Over Knives and it has inspired me to cut down a bit on dairy... I already don't eat much meat, just the occasional sushi and chicken at restaurants. Any ideas for protein/plant-based foods that are easy and cheap? Nuts don't really do it for me, they're great but they don't fill me at…

Any good ideas for night snacks?
Does anyone have ideas for quick and easy snacks to eat before bed? I know some swear by NOT doing this, and I do tend to feel better if I can avoid it, but hey, if I'm very hungry, I'd usually rather eat. I used to just do a whole grain cereal such as oatmeal with berries or protein powder and soy milk, but I'm trying to…

Ladies, any luck losing while on BC?
Hey ladies, I recently went off birth control. I'd like to get back on the Pill for a lot of reasons, but my experience with it has been that I haven't been able to lose weight AT ALL while on the pill. Being on the Pill has never caused me to gain weight (I was lucky, I didn't get the crazy hunger cravings some people…

Food scale: grams or measuring cups?
Those of you with a food scale: do you use weight or cups/tablespoons to measure your food? I measured a half cup of oat bran cereal on the scale. The serving size SAID 1/2 cup or 40 grams, but a half cup measured exactly out was 56 grams on the scale!! I'm not sure what to go by...the measuring cup or the grams. What do…

Hello, I could really use some feedback from those who have tried the "eat more to lose" way or have tried bulk/cut cycles before. I am 5'5, 135. I got on MFP about a month ago because I was eating 1300-1700 cals a day, running around an hour per day, six days a week and not losing anything. I determined that I had slowed…

Anyone else killing themselves and not losing?
I've been doing this for a while -eating at 1300-1500 cals and working out 6 days a week and not losing. I finally realized after 6 years of starvation dieting to stay thin that I had shot my metabolism all to heck and I need to fix it now to lose weight later. This means upping calories for a while. There is a group of us…

Food diaries: private or public?
What are people's thoughts on keeping the food diary open/closed? I'm curious to hear opinions on why you do what you do. Mine is personally public because I like to see what others are eating so I figure it's only fair. This site is such a learning experience for me!

Weights for beginners
Hello, Any really easy weight videos/sites you guys recommend for new lifters? I've been using the machine weights and working my way up from the lightest settings (never done weights before!) but from what I've read here and elsewhere, free weights are better. One problem, I have no idea how to use them!

Best brand of heart rate monitor?
Any suggestions? I'm on a budget so I'd prefer to spend under $100. What has worked for you? I'd like to get an accurate count of daily calories since I've heard MFP inflates the count.

When to set to "sedentary"??
Hi all, I workout five days a week but I have a desk job. I try to get up during the day and move (and sit on an exercise ball!) but I'm still relatively sedentary. Would you set your activity level to "sedentary" despite the workouts? That puts me at only 1200 per day :( and I've been reading the "women eating more than…
