Time for YOU ...
I think this is one of the most difficult struggles for working moms. We already have the "work guilt" going on because we're not home for the kids as much as we'd like to be. So any personal time on top of that feels selfish, especially when there are a hundred things at home to be done! When I first started exercising…

Grounded
I'm having sciatica problems, got an injection today. Doc says rest for a week. And I will. But of all the different exercise I do, not running is the worst. I worry I will lose momentum. Being more injured is worse, I know. And worrying is a waste of energy. Any encouraging stories about taking a week off?

Are YOU a runner?
Recently I've been having this conversation quite a bit... For so long I was a running "hater," until dear friends got me involved in a wonderful charity that participates in a 1/2 marathon each year. The team leader kept telling me, "If you can run 3, you can run 13." And she was right. At some point during the training…

How to handle the Girl Scouts...
Is it that time of year where YOU live? Adorable girls selling those evil boxes of deliciousness? Co-workers you can't turn down? I'm in maintenance and fully support "everything in moderation," but last night's episode with the Thin Mints reminded me that I can't have them in the house. At the heart of my problem? I…

Runners - Treadmill vs. Outdoors
Was talking to an acquaintance today about getting ready for some upcoming races. Told him I was excited to have just joined a little local gym so I can get on the treadmill a couple times a week (on my lunch break) to help with my training. His response was, "the treadmill is a workout, but it isn't running." I totally…

Become a Walk Leader!?
I love Leslie worlouts so much that I decided to get certified as a Walk Leader a year and a half ago. It is so fun to "walk" with a group and encourage them in their exercise. They just restructured the certification, so the cost to get certified is less than it used to be. This isn't an ad - I have no financial stake.…

Reverse Rewards
In giving some friends kudos today for their amazing logging, something occurred to me. I originally joined MFP as a way to help my maintenance, stay accountable with calories. Then after being on the forums for a while, I really wanted to encourage others as they go through the same battles. I never realized how awesome…

Exercise "extra credit"
So I forced myself to get up and go for a run this morning. That's not a big deal, but It took me about 20 minutes to gear up - two pairs of pants, three shirts, head thingy, gloves... So I felt like I should get extra credit for all that prep time! What "extras" go into your workouts for which you should get some credit?

You know you had a good workout when...
...you would rather jump in the shower fully clothed than have to lift your arms over your head to peel off your sweaty shirt. Next?

Hawaiian butterfish/Escolar = Uh oh?
So... My husband went to this great seafood store for the first time today and the person there talked him into buying this. However, the guy also said not to eat any more than six ounces or "it can cause some serious intestinal distress." Remember Olestra? Apparently you eat enough of this fish and you can get the same…

Runners - What to Wear?
I realize everyone is different, but I'm running my first "cold" weather event on Sunday and I don't want to overdress. I'm a big baby - "cold" is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I won't wear a hat, regardless, but gloves? How many layers? I'm already planning on a long sleeved undershirt and a singlet. My biggest problem is…

It's going to be a boot-iful winter!
I love boots. Boots do NOT love me. Even after losing 50 pounds and keeping it off for 5 years, I was still having zipper issues. My closet is full of boots I thought would stretch, or I could "stand" being tight. (Which, sadly, I cannot...) I joined MFP in March and changed things up a bit. More intensity, more strength…

Your favorite kitchen appliance...
... as I sit here and drink cup #1, I have to say it is my Keurig coffee maker. I love my coffee, and being able to make a fresh cup whenever I want is a big deal for me. So I got one for the office, too! #2 is my mini-chopper (processor), especially when it is guacamole time! What's yours?

Success story!
Really thrilled and humbled that I'm the story of the week... http://www.walkathome.com/walk-stars-stories/ And the QVC deal is pretty good, too!

Just one scoop...
So I finally decided to get some protein powder because I keep falling short. I like to eat, eat a variety of foods and really don't want to start making shakes every day. One scoop a day should get me where I'd like to be with my daily protein. I know I can mix it with water or milk... Does anyone have any interesting,…

You can do it!
One of the things I love most about the Leslie Sansone workouts (recorded or live), is that anyone can do them. It doesn't matter what your fitness level is because the movements are not complicated and you can go at your own pace. There are so many success stories about folks who couldn't get through a mile, and now are…

Walk Live
Hi everyone! I'm a Leslie Sansone certified Walk Leader in southern NJ. Taught class tonight and am pumped up because we have so much fun! Just wanted to encourage you to find a Walk Live class in your area! There are over 200 Walk Leaders in the USA, maybe one is near you... The DVDs are great and I do them several times…

Philippians 4:13!
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me! This has been my guiding verse for the past year or so, especially since I realized that God needs to be a part of my physical journey as well as my spiritual one... What things have you accomplished, or hope to accomplish with His strength, and not all on your own?

A dinner so good I just have to share! How about YOU?
Tonight we made our own version of a "burrito bowl" - similar to Chipotle. Hubbie made Alton Brown's baked brown rice, I jazzed up some black beans and made my first batch of homemade salsa/pico. Add spice-rubbed freshly grilled chicken, a little cheese and reduced-fat sour cream to finish off the dish. A huge bowl was…
