Exercise "extra credit"

So I forced myself to get up and go for a run this morning. That's not a big deal, but It took me about 20 minutes to gear up - two pairs of pants, three shirts, head thingy, gloves... So I felt like I should get extra credit for all that prep time!

What "extras" go into your workouts for which you should get some credit?

Sit up to get out of bed, squats on the toilet, coffee cup raises, high knees to get into work out clothes, loading weights on the bar, and then I get to work out. Sound good?
  • Finding and putting on BOTH of my sports bras! That's exercise in itself!

I don't have that problem, but removing the sweaty one is a workout!!!

Grocery shopping with kids should be considered a workout. Lift them in, take them out, lift them in, take them out, chase down the aisle, carry out screaming, pin them down and strap them in. (Okay not every trip goes that way).

No ... just most of them! Best thing ever when the kids were younger was finding a store that had child care. Grocery shopping became a date!

Getting all geared up to run outside thinking it is 0 degrees, going outside and realizing it is like 15 and you need to re-dress :)

I went for a two hour walk in the woods a couple of days ago.

The woods were half flooded and muddy as hell.
It was more like walking through a swamp, so I logged it as 10 minutes more than it actually took me.

I never consider what time it takes to get ready for workouts extra! When I "lived" in snow-country(NE USA) I took the time to have every type of running clothing in one drawer, even at work! After finding out the outside temp, I would grab what I needed for that day to be able to run. That drawer was my "no excuses to avoid running" drawer! It also made me "get in tune" to what I needed on different types of days!
On weekends I would run "monster"type of runs! I would grab from a drawer and throw in a small backpack everything from water-filled bottle, to crampons, to fleece neck scarves, etc.
Because of those drawers, and my desire to "get going", it has never taken me long to go running!

(time is like money to me, and I never squander either)

Exercise extra credit? Commuting with studded tires on the bike. They don't roll nearly as smoothly as my slicks! And commuting with temps in the teens.

Awesome prep on your part - I did have everything ready to go - it was just a lot of effort to pile it on! I will look forward to the return of warm weather...

I'm not sure it's the same thing, but I deliver for a local paper, so I have to get up, dress in 3 layers, go to the center, bag the papers, lug them to the Jeep, load them and then drive to the route and deliver them. That's the exercise part. :) My legs have been aching all the way up to my hips.
