Stressed out by eating with others
Has anyone else struggled with eating around other people? Usually a very social person, I love seeing my friends and spending time with my family, but since early last year, whenever it comes to eating food or sitting down for a meal, I get so anxious that I almost feel sick. I take almost all of my meals alone, and when…

Overcoming post-workout fatigue
I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to avoid or overcome post-workout fatigue? I usually run 3-10 miles every morning with one day off per week, but recently, I've begun to feel mentally and physically exhausted around 6 hours of finishing my exercise. I've tried having a snack immediately after exercise and tried…

10 companies make all the junk food you shouldn't be eating!
I just saw this article from the Huffington Post on the 10 companies that control an enormous number of consumer brands, many of which produce downright junk food! I knew we had a highly consolidated food market in the US, but wow, that's surprising. Check it out here! Infographic with the article: Read on!:…

My ED roommate is in my head.
I know EDs are a touchy topic on the boards, but I feel like many of you will have some suggestions for someone in my situation... I'm currently studying abroad with one of my friends from college. I didn't know her very well before we arrived here, but we've since become fast friends. Shortly after moving in together, I…

The work-out buddy dilemma - help!
Sooo, my best friend just found out that she's overweight and is now in a fitness CRAZE to get back in shape. The good news is that we're now workout buddies and I can always count on her to drag me to the gym every other day. The bad news is that I hate the gym and would rather go running outside than meet up with her in…

Do people actually wear spanx?
I just found out one of my slimmer friends wears "spanx" under her clothes all day EVERYDAY. I was just wondering, does anyone else do this? If so, why (beyond the obvious reason of tucking all the extra bits in)?

Glasses that make you look skinny
So, I bought a new pair of glasses this weekend, and put them on today only to look in the mirror and find... they make everyone I see look skinny!!! Seriously, like everything and everyone. I literally gasped when I saw myself in the mirror... and then took off my glasses and felt like a tub of lard. I can't decide --…

When do you eat morning exercise cals?
Hi everyone, I really love to go running (5-13 mi) in the morning, but I hate eating right before I go. To get the energy I need to exercise, I tend to eat my exercise cals the day before (mostly protein like nuts, maybe some carbs). I wake up thr next day and go straight to running without eating anything, and afterwards…

HELP! Alternative to the birthday cake?!
It's my sister's 18th birthday tomorrow and I'm SUPER excited to celebrate it with her! Unfortunately (or fortunately?), everyone in my family has become a health nut since I joined MFP (serious NSV right there). I don't want to make her a traditional birthday cake and end up with massive leftovers, so... Do you have any…

A plea to all runners - help!!
Today, I woke up early for my morning run (~5-6 miles) and the second my foot touched the floor, I knew I wasn't going. My right knee feels totally inflamed and hurts right under the kneecap! I can hardly go a few steps without pain. :-( I'm pretty sure it's chondromalacia, aka "runner's knee." It would make sense since…

One long workout VS two mini ones??
Is it better to do one long workout or break it into mini ones throughout the day (morning/evening)? Calorie-wise, is there actually any difference? It seems way harder to run 10 miles than it is to run 5 miles in the morning, then 5 again at night, and intuitively, I assume that the former should burn way more. Then…

Ack, awkward question, but had to ask...
I've noticed that since joining MFP, I've been especially diligent about eating fruits and veggies with high fiber and high water content. But this also generated another problem for me... Does anyone have trouble holding their bladder after eating all these healthy foods? I seriously went to the bathroom eight times…

How do you log soybeans or other shelled foods?
Hi, I'm a little confused about how to log soybeans or other shelled foods. If I want to log 8oz of edamame, it looks like 240 kcal. But I'm obviously only eating the beans, not the shell. Is 240kcal correct, or does that assume we're eating the whole bean? How does it work for other shelled foods? Thanks!

Weird inspiration??
This weekend, I went to Body Vitals, an exhibit at our local museum that teaches visitors about the human body through the artistic display of cadavers. It shows the muscular system, cardiovascular system, etc and uses the donated bodies of athletes, body builders, and other healthy individuals to highlight how beautifully…

How do you adjust for a late night / little sleep?
Hi everyone, As a college student, I rarely have time for a proper night's sleep, and more often than not, I only get 4-6 hours of sleep per night. I know that it's terrible for me, but these stupid chem problem sets don't solve themselves. In any case, am I "allowed" to eat a bit more on nights that I stay up especially…

Morning vs. evening workout?
Hi all! I really love morning workouts, but due to scheduling conflicts, I've recently had to shift all my cardio to late at night (I'm talking about like 9-10pm!). I've heard that late night workouts can affect sleep and induce insomnia, but I've never really had that problem. Do you know of any advantages/disadvantages…
