OMAD
I've been fasting for a week and I now want to try the one meal a day method of intermitttent fasting. I've been doing the master cleanse as a way to reset my eating habits. It has been surprisingly easy and I've discovered how unnecessary it is to eat food all day. When I simply cut calories I am constantly thinking about…

P90X results
I was thinking of doing this program and wanted to get some feedback. I'm 165 with 30 lbs to lose. I eat 1,200-1,400 calories a day. Did anyone get good results with this program.

Be patient...the scale WILL move
I have been so frustrated with the scale after a month of hard work! I aim for a calorie deficit of 1,000 a day. I have had very few slip ups and I try to overestimate my calories when I'm not sure. I have noticed some changes in the way my clothes fit but I really need that validation by seeing an actual number get…

Getting enough protein
My calorie deficit is very high up to a 1,000 a day. I do strength training 3x's a week to retain muscle mass but I haven't focused on my protein as much. I'm changing that now by drinking protein shakes (the one I made this morning had 50g). What should my protein goal be to retain muscle mass (I weigh 165). Also will…

Do you count your steps as exercise?
I walk a lot to and from work and also to the gym. Sometimes I'll walk during my lunch break as well. On a heavy walking day I can burn up to 800 calories from walking alone. I don't eat my exercise calories back and stick to 1,500 calories a day or less. I workout 5 times a week combining strength and HIIT for 40-60 mins.…

Does your weight loss reflect your effort?
I know weight loss isn't linear, but does anyone find that your weekly deficit reconciles with the weight you lost? It's been 5 days since my weigh-in and it's shown that I have lost 1.5 lbs. Now if we are being strictly mathematical that means over the five day period my total calorie deficit was 5,250, with a daily…

Myth: Water curbs hunger
Okay maybe it only applies to me. People always say drink water will curb your appetite. This does NOT work for me. I drink a lot of water but if I need to eat it does not help me whatsoever. And I drink A LOT of it. Sometimes hunger is confused with dehydration and drinking water helps in that case. But if you are hungry…

Alcohol
I set a 1,500 calorie goal and I'm low carb obviously. I probably teeter between 20-50g per day, but more on the lower end of the spectrum. Will alcohol hinder my progress if I stay under my calorie goal and use mixers without carbs. I stick to vodka (no carbs). I'm going to weigh myself on Tuesday to see if it has impeded…

How do you keep from bingeing?
I usually eat about 50g or so a day. Probably not even that but I don't really look at labels so I may be consuming some trace carbs. I haven't eaten any bread, pasta, cereal, or sugar. Strictly meat, vegetables, and cheese. I'm on my fourth day and my cravings are minimal (aside from the coffee frappuccino I wanted this…

Adding carbs back into your diet
Why do people gain weight when they start to eat carbs again? That's my biggest fear because while I have no problem eating LC to lose weight (I restricted myself to 50g but I typically eat about 20g), I do plan on introducing them to my diet when I reach my goal. If I eat maintenance calories and work out, can I still eat…

Calorie goal and water retention
These two questions are unrelated but I don't want to flood the board with topics (I'm a newbie) Before starting low-carb I aimed for 1,500 calories a day. It's more difficult for me to stay in that range because the foods I eat have more calories, but they leave me more satisfied. I know everyone's calorie goals are…

Strength training and low carb diet
I'm so bored with cardio and since I do a fair amount of walking throughout the day anyway (MFP estimated I burn about 500 calories throughout the day) there is no reason for me to do more cardio at the gym. I'm eating 1,500 calories a day mostly low carb (I can easily stay under 50g; 20g is too strict and not something I…

Net calories versus calorie deficit
In order to lose 2lbs a week you should have roughly a 7,000 calorie deficit through the week (burning 7,000 more calories than you eat) My BMR is about 1,500 and TDEE is about 1,700. I'm fairly active and walk to and from work which is another 400 calories, bringing my TDEE up to 2,100. I exercise between a half hour to…

Lemon water in the morning!
I love it! Drinking warm lemon water in the morning has wonderful health benefits (look it up!) but it's also helped curb my appetite. I'm usually starving by the time I get to work (around 9 am). But I decided not to eat breakfast until I have consumed a cup of water. I've been drinking it all morning (it's a little cold…

Is there a link between muscle pain and hunger?
My muscles were extremely sore yesterday from my Tuesday strength training workout and my intense cardio workout yesterday. Yesterday I didn't workout because I was too sore but I was also very hungry by dinner time and had cravings. I'd eaten about 1,200 calories up until dinner and walked a lot during lunch so I…

Exercise routine while on LCD
I don't count calories or carbs but I'd estimate I eat between 1,500-1,800 a day and stay under 50g carbs (my carbs only come from vegetables, occasional fruit, and nuts). I prefer HIIT because I get a better workout and I can do it for a shorter period of time. However I read that HIIT is not good for low carb dieters and…

Success with only strength training
I walk a lot to burn calories and find myself even hungrier. Even though I stay under my calorie goal it defeats the purpose of doing extra walking when I'll just eat the calories back. So would it be better if I focused only on strength training and set my calories to 1,500? A typical session for me is 45 mins and I burn…

Those of you who exercise in the morning
I normally workout in the evening because it works better for my schedule. I don't have any obligations after work so there's no reason for me to get up early to workout when I can do it in the evening. I've been wanting to switch to the mornings for a while because I have no motivation after work, even though I have the…

MFP vs Fitbit
I set my Fitbit goal to have a 1,000 calorie deficit. I move a lot and workout and I averaged over 3,000 calorie burn for the day. I eat about 2,000 calories so I managed to hit my target deficit with a only a few hundred remaining calories available. On MFP I have about 700 calories remaining. If you have a Fitbit, do you…

Do I need to lift heavy to get lean?
I eat a calorie deficit (about 1,500 calories) do cardio (nothing strenuous but burn between 500-800 throughout the day according to Fitbit) and I do strength training as well. I lift as heavy as I can (to failure). I've seen other people get results without using heavy weights or none at all. My goal is to get lean (burn…

Zucchini noodles?
Has anyone tried them? How do they compare to actual pasta?

Does calories in/calories out apply to alcohol?
If I stay within my 1,500 calorie goal (with exercise) will drinking alcohol slow my weight loss progress? I know that when you drink the body metabolizes the alcohol first instead of the food you have consumed. But since I am staying within my calorie goal would it matter?

HIIT strength training
Can anyone explain this concept to me? I understand how to do it for cardio so I've started to incorporate it into my strength training routine. It has made the workouts a lot more fun and challenging because I hate resting between sets (it makes strength training boring). This is what I currently do: Three circuits of…

Why still use MFP?
I ordered a Fitbit and should be getting it soon (yay!). But one thing I have noticed for some time is the amount of Fitbit users who still use MFP to log and synch it with their Fitbit. Is MFP more accurate? It would seem easier to use the Fit bit app to enter your food and determine your calorie goals.

Can you build muscle without eating a lot of protein?
I eat between 60-90 grams a day which is less than my required amount for my weight (152 lbs). But I have quite a bit of definition in my legs because I do a lot of lower body compound movements. So what is going on with my body? Am I burning fat around my muscle or am I gaining muscle?

Why is it harder this time?
I lost about 20 lbs last year (167-148) but gained a lot of it back after I stopped exercising and watching what I ate after the summer ended last year. I got back on track a couple months ago but I've barely lost anything it seems. I got a better scale and in the past few weeks I've gone from 153.6 and now 152 today, but…

Charge or Charge HR
i just ordered the charge and realized that it wasn't the HR version that I wanted. Is it worth it to get the HR instead? I'm having a hard time justifying getting the regular version because I can track steps on my phone? How good is the Charge for tracking TDEE and calorie burn? Is the charge only effective for step…

Too much physical activity?
I'm not progressing as much as I want and I wonder if my daily activity is the reason. I go to the gym 6-7 days each week and do a combination of strength and cardio. On a strength day I'll spend about an hour on weights plus 30 mins of cardio. On a cardio day I'll do 60 mins between the elliptical and treadmill. However,…

HIIT vs steady state cardio
Can anyone share their results of doing HIIT versus steady state cardio? I usually alternate between strength training and cardio, and my cardio days would consist of at least 60 minutes of steady state cardio on the elliptical or treadmill. I've read that short sessions of HIIT are much more effective. Can anyone confirm…
