Barefoot or athletic shoes?
When exercising at home to a cardio DVD (Jillian Michaels, The Firm, etc.) is it better to wear athletic shoes or go barefoot? There's usually a good amount of jumping exercises involved. Or doesn't it matter? Thanks!

Your barbell squat vs. deadlift weight
Can you lift more weight doing a barbell back squat or a barbell deadlift? How much more? Or are they equal? Not really interested in 1 rep max stats but rather let's assume you're doing 3 sets of 6 reps. Thank you!

One of my MFP friends is a professional fitness and performance trainer. I saw in one of his posts that he is not a fan of the "NROL4W" author, so I asked him for suggestions on authors/articles that he does like and respect. Here is a portion of his reply: [ That being said, I am a fan of Mark Rippetoe's stuff. Good,…

Wide-grip deadlift from box
I'm in stage 4 and I'll do workout B for the first time tomorrow. It's the same grid as stage 2's workout B so the wide-grip deadlift from box exercise is back. EEEK! I tried to do the exercise as described when I was in stage 2 but I gave up and did conventional deadlifts instead. My problem was I couldn't "roll the…

Movie Recommendation please
The electricity will be turned off at my home tomorrow for 5 hours. To kill time I was thinking of going to a movie. Can you recommend a good one you've seen in the theatre recently? I like drama or comedy, not horror or animated movies. Thank you! Edit: Not into Twilight.

Calories burned during a NRoL4W workout
I use a Timex HRM with chest strap. I start it after my warm-up and at the start of the first lifting exercise (A). I stop it after the last lifting exercise (for example D2 or E) so the program's rest periods are counted. I rest a little bit after the last lift and then I start the HRM again at the beginning of the…

For the first time in many years
I took a good look at myself in the mirror today because I weigh every Friday. For the first time in years, my thighs don't touch! Yipee! I still have some major toning to do but this was a big milestone for me. Those lunges and squats are finally paying off. Thank you MFP.

Stupid Minnesota law, another trip to Wisconsin today
For about the 1,000th time Minnesota lawmakers are considering overturning the law that bans liquor sales on Sundays. As a state, we give several million tax dollars every year to Wisconsin when people cross the border to buy liquor. If the repeal actually happens this time, privately-owned liquor stores will have the…

Weigh meat before or after it's cooked?
Hi Everyone, Meat always shrinks after it's cooked so I'm wondering, do you weigh your meat before or after it's cooked? The nutrition panel on the package does not specify if the given information is for raw or cooked. Thank you!
