Caribbean restaurant - how to find the healthier choices on the menu?
I am going to a Caribbean restaurant tonight with a group of friends. I know I'm going to go over my calories for the day and am OK with that, but I don't want to blow them by too much - especially as we will probably be drinking cocktails too! Every time I think of Caribbean food it is always laden with calories - fried…

Any tips on going straight from the gym/pool to work?
I have decided that the best way to fit exercise into my daily routine is to use my flexi-time to start work a little bit later and go in between dropping the children at school breakfast club and starting work. Trying to do it in the evenings is a nightmare as I am always exhausted and the children always have activities…

Can I make Overnight Oats with Oats So Simple sachets?
Nothing fills me up for breakfast like porridge, but it is way too hot to eat porridge at the moment. I thought I'd try Overnight Oats as an alternative, especially as it looks easy to take to work to eat at my desk (I find the later I eat breakfast the less likely I am to want to snack mid morning). I have got loads of…

Orienteering
Does anyone do orienteering? I'm going to a beginners event tomorrow and am wondering what to expect. It looks like a fun way to burn a few calories.

I've done it :-)
I have reached my goal, just in time for the school summer hols. I have actually lost 1lb more than goal and now weigh 139lbs (9st 13), down from 210lbs (15st) in May 2012. Anyone else hit goal yet?

How do you set a target?
When I first started on MFP I based my target on having a healthy BMI. So I went from 210 lbs to 154 lbs, BMI from 34 to just under 25, dress size from a UK 20 to a UK 12, waist measurement from 40" to 30", body fat (according to the scales at the gym, which are only a rough guide) from 45% to 25%. So now I have reached…

Hi
Hi, is it too late to join this group? It looks like just what I need! I am a 35 year old mum of three. I have lost over 50 lbs during the past 10 months, and am now 2 lbs away from a healthy BMI. When I reach that goal though I think I still need to lose some more. I lost a lot of weight in the autumn with the help of a…

Running vs Walking
This may be a daft question, but here goes... What is the difference fitness-wise between jogging 3 miles at 5mph and walking 3 miles at 5mph?
-
Pedometer mileage and activity level
I wore my pedometer today out of curiosity to see how many steps I do. The total for the day was 22,844. 3 miles of that was the walk to work and school, which I logged separately as exercise. 3 miles is (I think) roughly about 6000 steps. So that leaves 16,000+ steps just from my normal activity, which I am not logging as…

Possibly a stupid question...
...but I am going to ask it anyway. Everyone keeps saying that you need to do strength training (ie weights) in order to preserve lean body mass as if you are using a muscle you won't lose it. That makes sense. However, why doesn't other exercise do the same thing? I appreciate that things like running or cycling only use…

My exercise plan for the new year
I already do a reasonable amount of exercise (running c25k, stationary bike, swimming, yoga, walking to work) but I don't really have a plan, I just do it when I feel like it. I want to be more disciplined, so have come up with this plan. I would be grateful if you could have a look at it at tell me what you think. I know…

NSV - jeans
I've still got a way to go until I hit goal, but I was sorting out my too big clothes to go to a charity shop and came across my old jeans. I was wearing these 6 months ago. They are a UK size 20, the new pair that is in the photo with them is a UK size 14.

Monday December 3rd weigh in
It's December!!!!! CW - 168lbs (12 st). 2lbs lost since last week's weigh in. For those of you not on my friends list, I have decided to change my goal to maintenance for December. It is a stupidly busy month (I have 3 children of my own and am a nursery teacher) so I think this is more realistic. I have also started…

Swimming and running on the same day
I am working out my exercise timetable for next week (scheduling it means it is more likely to get done!). I will be on the second week of a C25k programme. Obviously this isn't enormously strenuous as I am just starting out, but it is something new. This week I ran Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday but next week I would…

Work Christmas Dinner Menu
Have just had the menu to choose what I want to eat at my husband's work Christmas dinner. I plan to eat at maintenance over Christmas anyway as it is very difficult to do otherwise (Christmas with the inlaws, work dinners for both me and husband, kids' parties etc). But what would be the healthiest choice from this menu?…

Monday 26th November weigh in
No change for me this week, still 170lbs. Which is a little bit disappointing as I really wanted to reach 168lbs (12 stone) by December, but never mind. Hope everyone else will record a loss this week!

Winter Solstice Yoga Class - sounds like bliss!
I have just had an invitation to a 3hr Winter Solstice Yoga Class which is taking place on the Saturday before Christmas. The invitation says: "If you want to avoid Christmas a little bit, or at least the manic Christmas shopping, or if you want to spend some time relaxing before everything gets hectic, this afternoon will…

Running
I have decided that I would like to give running a try in the new year. It will be a very slow start - I am asthmatic and have a history of ligament and cartilage problems in my knees. But I am reading the "Running Made Easy" book from Zest magazine and they have a very simple beginner's programme and that looks like it…

Is it just me, or is this getting tougher in the cold?
Aside from the fact that I just want to eat cake washed down with hot chocolate... Going out in the sleet to get to the swimming pool last night was not fun. Walking to work and back when it is dull and cold is not fun. Getting up at 6am on dark mornings to do a workout is not fun. Anyone else feel they'd rather be drawing…

Monday 12th November weigh in
Today's weight: 172lbs (12st 4). Loss this week of 2lbs. I have now lost 38lbs, which is the same amount as my 6 year old daughter weighs

Foot cramp whilst swimming
Anyone know how to avoid getting cramp in my feet when swimming? It is relieved by rubbing the sole of my foot and wiggling my toes, but it is very annoying as it means I have to stop swimming until it passes.

Monday 5th Nov weigh in
I know I'm a few hours early but Mondays are too busy and I forget! CW 174lbs, 1lb lost this week. Which I am very pleased with as I am on steroids and antibiotics for a chest infection and the steroids always make me put on weight (combination of increased hunger and water retention). Plus the chest infection slowed down…

NSV - shopping spree!
Went shopping today for some new clothes. When I started losing weight I was a UK size 20. I knew I had gone down a couple of sizes as I have had to buy a few things in between, and expected to be a UK16. However every single item I bought today is a UK14! I also went to get fitted for some new bras - I have…

Monday 22nd October weigh in
I know I'm not going to have time to weigh and log tomorrow morning, so I weighed this morning instead. Loss this week 3lbs - CW 176lbs
-
Monday 15th October weigh in
I have lost 2lbs this week  CW 179lbs. Only 4lbs to go until I reach my Crimbo Weight Loss goal! Mind you, there will still be plenty more to lose after that...:ohwell:

How long will it take?
I have lost the first 2 stone in 6 months, working out at just over 1lb a week - so far, so sensible! I want to lose another 2 stone. What are the chances of me being able to do this in 6 months again? Or will it get a lot harder the closer I get to my goal weight? I would love to hit goal before next summer, but I'm not…

Why is it the more weight I lose the fatter I feel?
I have lost 2 stone (210lbs to 181lbs) and gone down 2 dress sizes (UK20 to UK16). But I feel more self conscious now about how I look than when I started :frown: I know I still have a lot of weight to lose - ideally I want to lose another 2 stone - but shouldn't I be feeling more positive about the weight I have lost?
-
Monday 8th October weigh in
1lb lost this week (hurrah!) Weight now 181lbs (12st 13lbs). Last time I was 12 stone something I was at uni!
