How old is "too old"?
I know this may sound silly, but how old is "too old" to become a hardbody? I am so impressed and awestruck by the ladies of MFP (sounds like a Playboy pictorial, right:wink: ) who lift and have totally transformed their bodies. But many of you are 10, 20, 30 years my junior. I will be 52 years young next month. The fitter…

No shower facilities - need "freshen up" suggestions
I work at a small manufacturing company, very casual, in a rural area. I have started walking during my lunch hour. We have a small changing area in the ladies room which I use when changing into my walking gear, but no shower facilities. After walking, I try to "freshen-up" as much as possible - basically a PTA wipe down,…

What is your goal BF%?
There are many posts regarding "ideal" weight or goal weight. I'm not focused on a number on the scale, but rather a BF%. My immediate goal is a BF% of 35%. (I'm currently at 43.2%, started a 56+%). 35% puts me at the high end of the "healthy" range for my age. My ultimate goal is 28%, the mid range of healthy. What's your…

Foam rolling - when? how often? how long?
I started using a foam roller for IT Band problems and like the results. But I only use it maybe 5mins a day, after my walks. I'm not really sure how to use my roller for maximum results/effect.

How ofter do you take measurements?
I weigh on the scale daily and really like to see the day to day fluctuations in my weight and the ability to "analyze" my previous days food and exercise and its effect on my weight. I would like to start taking my measurements regularly and track my progress at bit closer. How often to you measure?

My moment of clarity
Opps, I'm not able to adequately put my thoughts into words right now. Sorry. :embarassed:

WTF? Study: Too much jogging can lead to early death
Headline from the Houston Chronicle online: Study: Too much jogging can lead to early death Running for better health? You may want to sit down for this. A recent study published in HealthDay from the Cardiovascular Research Institute in Pennsylvania says both too much and too little jogging can lead to an earlier death…

thanks for those "before" pics
I would like to thank all of you who gritted your teeth, held your breath and posted those unflattering "before" pics. (I recently did it myself - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1243807-425-days-40lbs-getting-there) . As much as I am inspired by the "after" pics, it was in seeing the "before" pics that gave me the…

Alternatives to squats???
I re-started SL5x5 in mid-March and was progressing nicely. Last Thursday I went to an orthopedic specialist because my left knee "went out" over the weekend and the pain was not going away. I was diagnosed with Patellofemoral Syndrome (aka runner's knee). Along with prescribing an injection and a knee-stabilizing brace,…

Critique my workout please
First, about me...51yo female, 5'4", 192lbs (started MFP in Feb 2013 weighing 232lbs). With another 40-50lbs to lose, my current goals are weight/fat loss and maintain muscle. Once I get to about 165lbs & BF%<35, I plan to get more aggressive in the heavy lifting. My primary exercise is walking; I recently added SL5x5, but…

It this ITBS?
I apologize in advance for the length of this post. I want to include any and all information that may be pertinent to my situation. I started walked as my primary exercise in December 2012 weighing 232lbs. I started walking about 3/4mile at 2.2mph and increased the distance and speed every 2-3 weeks. Since then, I have…

I AM a Special Snowflake
On Wednesay 03/12/14, I added strength training to my fitness plan (currently walk 3-4miles daily for moderate cardio). I weighed 194.6lbs. Since then, I have done 3x/wk SL5x5, eaten at a 3500cal weekly deficit. And this morning I weighed 192. I must be a special snowflake, because, according to some many posters, that…

How long did it take
for your body to adjust to a new workout/exercise routine? Last week I start SL5x5 in addition to my regular exercise of walking (3-4miles/day @ 3.8-4.0mph). I am exhausted by 9-10pm and can't wait to hit the bed. I know this earlier bedtime is due to the recent addition of strength training. How long will it take for my…

help! Tight hamstrings after walking
My primary exercise (for now) is walking. I started walking in Nov 2012 and have worked up to daily 2.5+mile walks at a 3.8-4.0mph pace and a weekly 6+mile hike on Saturdays. I love walking and am training w/ C25K. My only complaint is the tightness in my hamstrings! This tightness is a recent occurrence and started…

OMG - Never, ever give up hope!
Just had to share this with my fellow MFPer's with unhealthy, unwilling SO's. I have been on MFP for little over a year. In that time, I have lost 36lbs, taken up walking for exercise, am training for a 10k, learned better eating habits, etc. The only thing I haven't done was to get my husband on board. He has resisted…

rate of muscle gain
What is considered a "good" rate of increasing muscle? I started out a year ago weighing 232lbs, BF% 56.2. I now weigh 196, BF% 46.3. If my calculations are correct, I have lost 30lbs fat and gained 6-7 lbs muscle. So I'm gaining muscle at a rate of about 1/2lb per month. Is that a "good" rate or am I getting excited about…

Thank you MFP
Logging my food has given me a new appreciation of food. Eating is no longer an automatic response to boredom, stress, other emotions or even hunger. Eating is a conscious choice I make. So when I consciously decide to have a stack of pancakes for breakfast, covered with real butter and syrup, I can truly enjoy and…

Grading System for Success? for those that did it
I have been on MFP for about 1 yr now and have lost 34lbs (ok, so I gained 4 holiday lbs) and in reviewing my progress during the year, I determined that I probably only gave it 100% maybe 50-60% of the time. I have decided to work toward 100% effort 90% of the time (it's progress, not perfection). With that in mind, I…

Intro - new to the group, need shoe advice
Good morning everyone! I joined this group b/c I need advice regarding shoes, but first, a little about me... I joined MFP in Oct 2012 and starting logging (food and exercise) in Feb 2013. I am 51yo female, 5'4', started weighing 232lbs, now down to 198. I started walking as my primary exercise in April, less than a mile…

Iliotibial Band injury??
Although I have been walking for several months, I recently started training for a 10K by increasing the length of my walks to 4-6 miles while following a C25K training program. This increased intensity of walking/running has caused slight pain to my right knee, specifically the inside of my knee, just to the side of my…

Is Starting Strength passe?
I need help from my lifting ladies, please! So after a 4 month sabbatical from SL5x5 due to frustration with my squat form (I lean forward too much, can't "get" the hip drive motion), I went to the gym (Anytime Fitness - I live in a small rural town - ATF is the only good option) this morning. They have a new "trainer" -…

HELP!! Can I lose 18lbs by Christmas??
Ok, sue me for false advertising. But I got your attention. Sorry for the underhanded method. :flowerforyou: But that question still sneaks into my head sometimes, although I have been an active daily member of MFP since February 2013. I have read the forums and sticky notes regarding healthy and sustainable weight loss. I…

MY PERFECT DIET - I FOUND IT
According to MFP, I can lose 1lb per week eating 1440 cals per day. Today, I found my perfect diet - 20pc Mcdonald's McNuggets, large french fries and large diet Coke = exactly 1440 cals. Great macros too - 35%C - 15%P - 50%F. breakfast = 4 McNuggets and 10 fries lunch = 8 McNuggets and 10 fries dinner = 8 McNuggets and…

Your first time - 10K that is...
I am training for my first 10K in April. I completed my first 5K in October in 44:01. My goal for my 10K in under 80 minutes. I am curious how others have done in their first 10Ks. Please note your a/s/w (age/sex/weight) for comparison, if you don't mind. BTW, I am 51/F/198. ETA: I didn't train for the 5K, other than my…

Pre-walk/jog/run nutrition
I have been walking/hike 5 miles every Saturday morning for the last 5 weeks, in addition to daily 2-3 mile walks. On Saturdays. I usually leave the house having eaten/drank just a cup or two of coffee (w sugar and flavored cream). I don't feel light-headed or lacking energy during these walks, and I'm not even really…

Question for Nutrition Nerds...
I tend to consume about 3000-3500mg sodium per day. The big culprits are my morning cottage cheese (1 cup full fat - 900+mg) and my processed turkey breast (3oz) at lunch. But...... I drink a lot of water (100+ oz/day). Does my high water consumption negate the detrimental effects of my high sodium consumption? BTW, I do…

Nike+ shoe sensor - how long did it last?
I have had my shoe sensor since early June, and I'm already getting a message that the battery is low and may need to be replaced. I am hoping I won't have to fork out $20 every 2-3 months for a new sensor. How long before you had to replace your sensor? BTW, I have logged about 160 miles with it.
