Another new release from Strava
This release seems to be geared to looking at data live while riding. I don't ride with my phone on display all the time so I'm not sure how useful this change is for me. Right now, I'm just trying to figure out how to keep doing what I've been doing historically. I haven't looked for an article on the changes yet but I…

Create your own kit
This company is holding a contest according to their Instagram account to create your own kit every month. The one they showed was created by a 6 year old and one I would wear as its a dragon. http://www.champ-sys.com.au/kitspiration.ct

Power Meter Data
So - I successfully used that Power Meter Data Ap. [Don't shoot me for not buying an actual meter. Funding wins out.] I would have this question no matter where the data comes from. How do I interpret this information? What does this mean? At the moment, on the new bike, the phone is in my bag and not where I can see this…

Jawbone issues
So - I had issues with my first Jawbone UP24 where it stopped charging and wouldn't link. It was within warranty and they sent me a new one. Now it too says it has about 3 days of charge left and yet it stops working. It is no longer under warranty. I have already ordered a Fitbit Charge +HR but its on delayed shipping. I…

USA Pro Challenge set for Aug 17-23, 2015 - dual post from the MFP Strava group
Sorry if you've seen this in the MFP Strava group but here is a chance to influence a pro race/ride. They announced most of the route for 2015. But they are asking fans to create one section. http://usaprocyclingchallenge.com/

Up with Strava
I haven't used the stopwatch in UP yet. I might use that if I go to an indoors class and want to highlight that work. I'm on Strava and I tend to run that program while I'm outside walking or bicycling and if I go back to Couch to 5K again this fall, I'll record runs. Up and MFP are the few programs that Strava links with.…

Hill question
What makes a hill a category 4 or 3 or 2 or 1? I rode two category 4's yesterday and I've no idea if that was a good thing or so-so or what and I don't know if going down the scale means tougher hills or easier hills. Someone please explain how a hill is rated for me.

Trainer question
I started riding that new trainer the hubby bought and its awful! I find that within one mile I want off so bad. My seat hurts like heck (more than when riding outside). I'm in the lowest gear I can have on my bike and barely able to push past 7 mph and struggle to maintain that speed. I'm lucky if I can stay on for more…

Why you should never bike to work!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brendan-leonard/biking-to-work_b_4426504.html I think it's tongue in cheek. I will have to say I'm guilty of number 2 at times.

You have 5 minutes! I know you do. 12-12-13
Try this one for something to give you a quick reset. Or when you are stuck in the house for a day and know you just have to do something besides watch TV all day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC86uNty_Sk&feature=c4-overview&list=UUrd4Hfglr4EczsLXKdGvCLA

The dark side of Strava?
I'm going to post this just for devil's advocate: http://www.bicycling.com/news/featured-stories/strava-files?page=0,0&cm_mmc=BicyclingNL-_-1475340-_-10242013-_-strava_files I enjoy seeing other folks rides not for the K/QOMs but for the variety of the maps. And I'm certainly not looking to compete against someone else but…

Is it ok to kill a cyclist?
A new MFP friend posted today about a cyclist killed in a roundabout in her area of the world. In the comments on her post, was this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/10/opinion/sunday/is-it-ok-to-kill-cyclists.html?pagewanted=2&_r=2&smid=tw-share As I read it, I was familiar with the common themes of who owns the…

How about on a lake?
Take a look at this video: http://msnvideo.msn.com/?channelindex=8&from=en-us_msnhp#/video/bee50687-13f8-4e65-acc7-f8f4082de71c You can't get a really good look at the size of the surface ..... hmmm - what do you call them when self propelled? They aren't skies. It looks like the lake would have to be dead calm to make…

Training for a first Century Ride
Well - I have to put my words to reality. I mildly challenged my karate instructor to ride the Denver Century ride with me in June 2014. He said yes. I felt I had to put that out there because when we first started karate with him he said only running was true cardio. He gave me nothing but heck for perferring a ride over…

9/26 - Winter's coming
I'm enjoying the cooling days of fall and the colors and the crisp nights. But I know it won't last too long where I live. I find that I am already making adjustments and considering a winter exercise schedule. I'm eyeing those classes that I always think "I'd like to try that!" But I'm also considering adding a day that…

9/16 Combo to shake it up
We are moving towards weather and times when we might not be able to go outside or even maybe not make it to the gym. This video promises a 1000 calorie burn - in an hour. I might split it out though as time is something that is precious. It has something for everyone. And I could really use something like this on those…

Strava lesson
I can't seem to get Strava to work. The first time I used it, it had me riding to Africa and back - 1455 miles RT. The next time, it started me somewhere other than my start point, thereby adding another 4 miles to the trip. I wound up discarding that trip because I could seem to get rid of these stats thing and I couldn't…

Juicing for life?
Does anyone follow the juicing life style? http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/ If so, have you maintained that lifestyle or was it too hard to stick with it? I’m just curious what the success rate is for people and if you found it to be a viable. What other healthy changes in your life did you make besides juicing? And if…

C25K with kids
Does anyone do this with their kids? Here is some background for my question. My son has been in a running club for 2 years at school. He qualifies to do this from both behavior and grade issues. (Personnally, I find it sad that the kids with behavior issues and poor academic performance are the ones encouraged to do this…

Say what? Really? May 7 2013
I'll post a topic for today. This article raised some questions for me. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/06/weight-gain-personality-changes-impulsivity_n_3225331.html I have a history of following my temptations more often. Something to think about when it comes to excuses
I have another group and there are almost daily topics there. This came in today and it's a eye opening to me. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/13/opinion/calorie-detective.html?_r=2& I knew that restraurants were going to have to start posting their calories soon under the new laws but if there is no one policing the data,…
