Cramping
I've been cramping a lot lately and don't know why. I drink 12-16 cups of water daily and eat bananas a couple of times a day. In the past my muscle cramps were usually the result of not enough water and /or low potassium intake. I am getting cramps in my side, in my rib cage, in my calf muscles and my shoulders. I'm just…

Any guys here doing Zumba?
Just wondering if any male members here take Zumba classes. I am looking for something new, but not sure how men are accepted in a class dominated by women.

Hotel Food
Looking for ideas that will give me variety and the proper nutrition while I am living in a hotel for a few weeks. My wife and I are relocating, but I am going ahead of her to start my new job and hunt for a house. I will have a refrigerator and a microwave in my room. I also have a George Foreman grill that I can take…

How do you track running?
I am just getting the point where I can actually run for short distances. If I go to a track and run/walk how should this be tracked? Do I keep track of how long I run AND walk separately? I do not have a HRM, and probably won't be getting one any time soon.

91 lbs lost. B/A Pics
I started here on December 12 of last year. I weighed in at somewhere between 441 & 449 pounds. Through the support of this site, I have reached 91.4 pounds lost, with still a bit to go. I wasn't going to post pics until I hit the 100 lb mark, but I need a little ego boost, so have at it. Here is me painting our first…

Growing your own food (?'s)
I have turned our little 4 acre property into a meat producer for my family. I want to know what the meat went through to get to my table, and the only way to know for sure is to be the one leading it into the dining room... so to speak. We are raising goats, beef and chickens for consumption. Also will be tilling up for a…

First gain of the process
OK, it has happened. I gained one pound this week. I have been dreading this since day one. Now, on day 153 I have to face it. Am I upset? A little, but I don't plan on losing sleep over it. I always thought I would be devastated and bedridden for a couple of days if I EVER gained weight. Instead, it has me thinking about…

Learning how to run
I am not talking about starting a running program like C25K (which I plan to do eventually.) What I am talking about learning HOW to run. Foot placement, knees, etc. I have tried running a couple of times, but my strides really hit the ground HARD. It jolts all of the way up through my body. Is there a trick to landing…

We have movement!!
Minor victory today in the war on obesity. When I started back in December my BMI was 59.8, way up in the obesity range. It was so high that it exceeded the range on the MFP BMI tool.Today when I entered my numbers, the arrow marking my BMI moved to the left, after being pegged to the right since I began. Yes I am still…

Omiron body fat tester
When setting up the tester, it calls for either "Normal" or "Athlete." According to the manual I would qualify as an athlete due to the amount of exercise I get every week. HOWEVER, if I am considered an athlete we maybe want to revisit and redefine the meaning. At 377 pounds and a bit fluffy, there is absolutely NO WAY I…

Shoes
It is time for some new shoes for exercise. I have been wearing New Balance for several years, but now that I am exercising regularly I need something more forgiving on the feet. I wear arch supports for plantar fasciitis, and have for a couple of years. I need a shoe that I can walk in, and also wear to the gym to do…

Where to start - P90X
I have a full set of P90X on one of my laptops, courtesy of my oldest son. I read about it on here, but in all honesty, I don't even know where to start. I don't understand all of the "Week 2 Day 4" stuff, let alone how everyone can be doing the same workout, but one is doing yoga, another is doing Plyo. Do I just pick one…

Body fat percentage, puzzled...
I am a bit stumped by my body fat tracking. I began tracking it on February 23 this year. Since then I have lost about 23 pounds. However, when I check my body fat % with my Omron Fat Loss Monitor I have reduced my body fat by a mere .5%. Now, I am a big boy. but if 23 pounds makes up only 1/2 of one percent of my body,…

Knees
I am assuming that I am not the only one with this issue. My knees hurt almost every day. The left one more so than the right. My knees are in pretty good shape, for the shape I'm in. I work on the elliptical at least 4 times per week, usually more. If I do any tread mill or walking for any length of time it gets worse.…

What do you consider a low calorie meal?
Just finished my daily entries and I got to wondering what everyone considered a "Low Calorie" meal. I am talking about a regular, sit down meal that the whole family can enjoy. I may be way off, but I start to panic when I see it go over 500 calories.

Hitting the BIG 4-0......-0
Today at weigh in I was 398.2. This is great because, not only does it mark a 42.8 lb loss since December 13, but I am officially under 400 lbs for the first time in, I am sure 10 years or so. Yes, I have a long road ahead of me, but with my friends here at MFP, at least I will have plenty of company! Thanks everybody for…

Gym "Program"
I started going to the gym last month. I don't enjoy going, but love it once I am there and rockin' the elliptical. It is a full gym, with pretty much everything needed but a running track. I have time to do what ever I want at the gym. I am not employed beyond any regular chores associated with a backyard farmer. I have…

Calories, Workouts and Confusion (Or: Let's beat this dead h
I know there are just shy of a Gozillion threads addressing workout calories burned and eaten back, but I hope I am asking a new version. I have just started going to the gym a few times per week. I am quite heavy so my calorie goal is still pretty high. Being as big as I am, I also burn more calories working out. For…

Chaffing - The "Big Boys" sports injury
Got a case of chaffing from my walk a few days ago. I have not walked (for distance/time) or anything since. I am treating it with Gold Bond and I have ordered some pressure shorts for future workouts/walks. I hate that I miss working out and walking, but after a few minutes it really starts to heat up again. Is this…

Weigh-ins, Water and, um... Reading.....
I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can help clear up. Should I cut off my water consumption at a certain time the day before I weigh in? I mean, if I am still drinking water up until bed time the night before I weigh in will it give me a higher weight than if I stop, say, around 7:00 or 8:00 PM? -ALSO- I have…
