Looking for ideas that will give me variety and the proper nutrition while I am living in a hotel for a few weeks. My wife and I are relocating, but I am going ahead of her to start my new job and hunt for a house. I will have a refrigerator and a microwave in my room. I also have a George Foreman grill that I can take along.

Lean cuisines, frozen veggies where you can steam them in the little zip lock steam baggies, salad stuff, frozen grilled chicken. yogurt, fruit.....
  • Not too sure if you are looking for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack ideas here...

Microwaves can be wonderful tools when they need to be! ;)
You can cook scrambled eggs, corn on the cob, or even bake a potato in one.

    Potato, Corn & Chicken
    Grilled chicken caesar salad
Frozen veggies are great time savers for the microwave
    Fruit
    Yogurt
    Rice Cakes
    Turkey/Chicken Burgers on Grill
Cans of chili/soup (just watch the salt content in these!)
I don't find you get a lot of rice for the calories, but if you are a fan, you can always get a small rice cooker for $10 at Wal-Mart
    Cheese & Crackers

Best of luck to you! :)

Uncle Ben's also makes microwaveable rice packets in many different varieties. Any frozen or refridgerated meals. I know weight watchers has made refridgerated meals (instead of frozen ones). You can always make sure you bring home leftovers if you go out to eat, then you get another meal all ready for you!

How about some spice rubs for chicken (or whatever you might put on the Foreman grill - shrimp, steak, burger patties)? I especially like lemon pepper with chicken - and cut up chicken bits are great in salad or to add to a frozen entree that doesn't have much protein (like the pasta entrees from Lean Cuisine). You can buy the pre-washed bagged salads and keep a couple of your favorite dressings on hand. The dressings can also double as marinades (think Italian or balsamic vinaigrette).

Grilled veggies will be a nice change - slice zucchini, red onion, mushrooms and peppers for a Foreman-grilled veggie medley. You may need to cook them in batches, but leftovers are great in a salad.

Ooh - you can make fajitas with a Foreman grill on-hand. Keep a jar of salsa in the fridge, and add a spoonful or two of rinsed canned beans.

Snacks: string cheese, babybel cheese, fresh fruit (to eat with the cheese), granola bars with low-sugar and decent fiber/protein (like Fiber One or Fiber Plus), peanut butter & celery.

It'll take some planning and coordination, but you can totally manage it! Good luck with your move!

  • Hi and I use to travel for work and eating healthy can be tough without a kitchen. Not sure what you like to eat, but for breakfast, there is steel cut oatmeal that is frozen (Good Food Made Simple) prepackaged in 1 cup servings for 150 calories. You can put 1/4 cup of sugar free syrup (30 calories). Bread with cheese, in microwave for melted cheese and yes you can make eggs in the microwave also.

I would get to a grocery store that has good bagged salad greens and veggies. You can also purchase your choice of meat for protein and grill on your portable grill to top off the salad. I personally would avoid the frozen dinners as they are so sodium laden. And the store should also have a selection of fruit. The deli section usually has fresh cut up fruit for convenience.

For snacks, there is always sugar free gelatin, puddings and the 100 calorie bags of popcorn.

Usually hotel/motel fridges are small so multiple trips will probably be needed, but that will give you added walking about time. Hope this helps! And good luck with your move!
