Challenge: Eating to a reasonable calorie goal thru xmas
I'm planning to eat a reasonable amount of calories (currently a small surplus) through xmas. Does anyone else want to join me eating in a sensible way and either gaining or losing a healthy number of pounds by xmas?

What six months of lifting progress looks like
Back in the end of December I started lifting with Strong Lifts 5x5 and did the first 12 weeks. Then I switched over to a different HST type program mid-March where the lines all bend. I just hit 1.5 times body weight on my 5RMs so I went through my logs to see how my progress would look in graph form. The lines track my…

Tired of "not losing" threads with no info.
When people post threads asking for help because they aren't losing weight, they should open their diary and also be sure to mention any relevant things such as medical conditions that might affect their energy needs.

How long between reps before it's not a "set" anymore?
I know this will be a matter of opinion for everyone, but I'm just curious where people draw a line, if any, for how long you would pause between reps before you consider stopping a set or consider it not "a set" anymore?

Do you bash cardio and/or think it is totally irrelevant?
I've heard this stated in other threads. I'd be surprised if more than a small number of people actually felt this way. So let's find out. If you bash cardio and/or think it is totally irrelevant (or are a bigfoot or leprechaun or the Easter Bunny) please post here and let us know you exist.

Shortening my sprinter's femurs?
Don't get me wrong, I like being fast and if I had to choose between being too fast or being too slow, just call me Usain Bolt. However, since I'm not a world-class tennis sprinter, I 'd like to shorten my femurs and look more manly.

What is toning?
I see this term used all the time, can someone explain what it's supposed to mean?

Guess the user name of the person above you
I bet nobody can guess mine!

When or how often do you go for a PR?
Just curious how often you try for a PR that isn't just a part of your normal progression on your lifting program. For example if you're on a 5x5 program, trying your 1RM either instead of or in addition to your normal sets of 5.

Anything I can add to Strong Lifts?
I am doing the 5X5 program with Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Military Press, and Rows. I am enjoying the strength training and I'd like to either be able to do it more than 3 days a week, or add a few other (strength) exercises. I already added shrugs to see if they do anything for me. The feedback I got from my muscles…

Five month progress pics.
I have been taking pics every month since I'm not so much "losing weight" as losing fat here and adding muscle there by lifting and going back and forth between calorie deficits and surpluses. Here's January to June. It's obvious that I'm flexing my arm in my "current" pic, but I was also flexing in the January pic too.…

Help eating fitbit calories
My fitbit wasn't giving me as many calories as I wanted, so I taped it to the washing machine and put it on the spin cycle for several hours. Now I have 45000 extra calories and I can't eat them all today! I tried... I ate half a cucumber and was already stuffed. I don't want to go into starvation mode from not eating back…

How to make my brain less smart
I do math problems and reading twice a week, but I am getting way too intelligent. I don't even do that much but my brain is super duper smart and I want to make it less smart.

Optimum "bulk" cycle lengths?
I have been reading about bulk/cut cycles and many people recommend or say they do 8 weeks or more (like up to a year) at a time. I would like to know if there is any real reason behind having a particular cycle length. I haven't been able to find any substance behind these recommendations. Is there a minimum length for it…

Strategic Deconditioning, have you tried it?
I've read about this and I'm curious what experiences people have had with this. Was it effective for you?

My cat is lazy and unmotivated
I got my cat to wear her fitbit but she doesn't want to take 10,000 steps a day. She spends most of the time just sleeping and is very lazy in general. How can I motivate her?

Help with eating all my calories...
Today my goal is over 4300 calories with exercise. I still have almost 2000 calories left for today. I'm looking for ideas for foods to fill out my calorie goals. I obviously already know about pop tarts, ice cream and cake, etc. But I'd prefer not to live in food coma all day. Fast food is fine for me here and there, but…

NSV: Finished week 12 of StrongLifts 5X5
I finally finished the first 12 weeks of StrongLifts. I started everything at 45 lbs and have made the following progress so far: Deadlifts -> 205 lbs Squats -> 205 lbs Bench Press -> 125 lbs Rows -> 120 lbs OHP -> 95 lbs The fail/deload strategy worked well. I failed OHP at 90 lbs 3 times, went back and did 80, 85, 90,…

Stretch reflex on overhead press, yes or no?
For those who do or know OHP, do you use/recommend stretch reflex or not. What reason(s) do you have for your choice?

Have you failed a squat?
I'm sure at some point I will fail a squat, I tend to push myself like that. I'm curious what experiences people have had with squat fails. At what point did you fail and what happened? (Did it throw you forward or roll off your back, did you go sideways, etc.)

Max squat guidelines?
I'm curious about the fact that the typical "max" people are able to squat seems to be expressed as a function of body weight. I would expect at least some difference between, for example, someone who is 5 foot tall and 200 lbs, versus someone 6 foot tall and 200 lbs. Also, if the 5 foot person has a max squat of say 200…

2 months worth of progress
I have been doing Strong Lifts, various cardio, and eating at a 500 calorie a day deficit. (I eat back 100% of my estimated exercise cals.) I'm satisfied that I can see my gut is shrinking. The first pic was taken 3 weeks after I started, at 196 lbs. The second was at 190 lbs. The third was at 185 lbs.

Flossing credits?
Do you subtract calories for the food you pulled out of your teeth while flossing? After all, you didn't eat it so it doesn't count right? Or do you only eat back half of your flossed calories?
