Got a goal outfit!
So I thought I'd share. In a nutshell, one of my lose weight motivations is to look good in cute lingerie. And up until recently, I couldn't find matching sets in my bra/panty combo. Last week I won a contest to get 2 pieces of lingerie, so I grabbed this in my goal size. Hopefully, my bra size guestimate will work. :D ***…

Glamour Magazine: Weight Stereotyping
Don't know if you saw this article in the June issue of Glamour. http://www.glamour.com/health-fitness/2012/05/weight-stereotyping-the-secret-way-people-are-judging-you-based-on-your-body-glamour-june-2012 It is disappointing and disheartening. I will fully admit, one of the reasons I started my weight loss journey now is…

Dosing Synthroid
I was chatting with one of my friends who is hypothyroid. (I had no idea until I told her I was). Anyway. She is from Europe, and she was telling me a bit about how she was dosed. Anyway it was pretty interesting, as her doctor used body weight to set her dose! At least initially. Her amount is higher than the "body…

A question for you well-endowed ladies
Random question here. So I've been at this whole weight loss thing for a few months now. And happily making progress. Mostly. Except for in one area. My bust! It is shrinking, but maybe not as much as I would like. :P Starting size: 36H/38G (clothing: 18-20) Current 34H/36HH So I will be completely honest...my fear is when…

Where is everyone?
It has been so quiet around here. How are you guys doing? I have been stuck right around 220 for about 4 weeks now. :(

Prevention Walking Plan
This is for all of you walkers. Prevention posted a little study. People who "speed walked" lost more belly fat and internal fat then people who walked "slow." Here is a link to the 8 week plan and half and full marathon training plans: http://www.prevention.com/pdf/PV0409BELYA.pdf Here is the full article:…

Chivalry: take it or leave it?
I was talking about chivalry with a friend the other day, since here in CA chivalry is dead. I am shocked when someone in my age group holds open the door. But I love little bits of chivalry: holding the door, opening the door so you can go in first, even things like pulling out a chair can be nice in the courtship phase…

My favorite 120 calorie snack
Just wanted to share my number one pretty clean snack. Hot chocolate! :) I have 1 cup of almond milk and ~1.5 tablespoons of a prepared hot chocolate mix like the trader joes ones: the spicy or non spicy don't have too many ingredients. They do add a thickener. Or you can just make your own: 1-1.5 tablespoons of…

Illustrated BMI Pics
I saw this a while ago, so I thought I'd post this slide show of real people and their BMIs. You be the judge on how accurate BMI is for gauging if someone is "normal," "overweight," "underweight" or "obese," or "morbidly obese." http://www.flickr.com/photos/77367764@N00/sets/72157602199008819/with/1604606530/

Are you a tea drinker?
I thought I'd share my find with you guys. I went to Teavana over the weekend, and a woman in front of me in line was raving about this tumbler that was on clearance. She was buying a second one. Here is a link on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Nissan-12-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Tumbler/dp/B00004S1CV Well I used it…

Are you sore after every workout?
Sometimes I feel like I am not working hard enough, if I don't feel sore after my workout. So you guys tell me, are you sore post-workout? The soreness comes in waves for me. I'll have a week of not being sore, and the next one has light soreness. I generally shoot for 3 sets of 10 reps, but if the weight feels easy in a…

Stiletto Workout?
I was watching the new show on VH1 called, "Styled by June" and in the episode with Trina, they did a "stiletto workout." It looked so hard. They were doing squats, lunges and all kinds of stuff in 5 inch heels. Wow! I bet it was a serious workout. Has anyone tried it?

Question about fitness models....
Is it just me, or do all fitness models have the same body shape: ruler or banana. Occasionally an apple. There are a zillion threads about "girls with muscle vs curvy girls." But maybe the real reason for all the debate is that you never seem to see any pears or hourglasses as fitness models. It seems like I rarely see…

NSV on the rowing machine
I had an NSV on the rowing machine today. I usually use it once a week, either to warmup before strength training. Or to do a couple of intervals (3 x 500M or 4 x 500M or 3 x 750) to see what my time was. The longest distance I rowed was 1250M straight. Today after I finished my upper body workout, I planned to use the…

Want to get a trainer, what should I ask in my interview?
So I decided I'd like to do a few sessions with a trainer to develop a couple of strength training routines. I decided to skip the ones at my gym, since I know generally speaking they are going to steer me over to the machines and not the weights, and my gym is so crowded it would be nice to be in a smaller space with more…

Have you noticed a change in how you are perceived?
I know one common thread among people (especially women) who are losing weight, have lost lots of weight or are somwhere along the way, is that people start treating you differently from when you go from heavier > slimmer. And I am not talking about in the dating world, that is sort of different, but in general life…

Crazy Dream Last Night
I thought I'd share my strange dream last night. It was a cartoon. There were a bunch of round animal characters (they looked like the Angry Bird characters) and they were bouncing around singing a catchy song. Then suddenly, they were attached to a bar, like swings or marionettes and started singing "we don't have to sing…

Does this ever happen to you in a restaurant?
So I think there is some sort of sign on my head that says "even though I have never met you before, I am going to tell you my life story and life's dramas." I thought I should explain this before I continue with the story. So around every 2 months or so, when I go out to a restaurant, a random person in the table next to…

What song are you addicted to right now?
So I heard this song a couple weeks ago, and just watched the video. Such a fun 90s inspired video (and song). What's on your list? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqm35nwZzi8

I have been feeling horrible lately
I hadn't really had many hypo symptoms until approximately the last 4 weeks. It is horrible. I have been unable to concentrate, having night sweats, my skin is super dry, and I have been exhausted lately! New labs tests and doctors appointment next week. OK just wanted to vent.

My closet is about to be a very lonely place
Today I went in my closet and grabbed my favorite dress from last year. It had a fitted bodice, and a full skirt. Well, the fitted bodice doesn't really fit anymore. I had 2-3 inches to spare everywhere. I reached a milestone over the weekend: my lowest weight in about 3 years. I have been at this weight +/- 5 pounds for…

A question for all of the pretty pears....
Hey everyone! So I am pear shaped (I just end up looking a little less so because I am well-endowed). So what exercises do you do to help balance things out. I feel like I should be working on my upper body a bit so it looks wider, so I look more like an hourglass! Share your tips! :)

Ultimate Motivation: Ninja Warrior
Have you guys watched Ninja Warrior? I feel like such a wimp, when watching people climb the salmon ladder, do the rolling escargot and do all of those crazy obstacles. It makes me want to take up Parkour, even though I have never been able to do a cartwheel.

Bizarre sight at the gym today
So I was on the elliptical, which faces the mini circuit in my gym. There is a lat pulldown machine. I saw a woman hop on doing the most random stuff. First she pulled down the bar and was in a crunch position on the seat. Then she started doing squats while pulling down the bar. Everyone was looking at her like "what is…

Are you measuring and improving your balance?
Over the past few week, as a result of my workouts for sure, I have noticed a HUGE improvement in my balance. (The biggest contributors I think are the squats and standing ab exercises I have been doing). At the beginning of the month, I would get a little off kilter taking the stairs two at a time, and need to use the…

Help! I need some breakfast ideas
I'd love some breakfast ideas. The problem: I have just found out one medicine I take isn't happy if I have calcium within 4 hours (or super high fiber). That kills my go to breakfast: greek yogurt and fruit. I can't have eggs daily, I just don't like them enough to have them that often and they are time consuming (I don't…

Have any breakfast ideas?
I am so crushed about no calcium within 4 hours of taking thyroid medicine. My go to breakfast for the past few years has been greek yogurt and some fruit. So what do you guys have? I don't like hard boiled eggs, and I don't like to have eggs daily - I usually like to have something a little lighter. And I only have 15…

Question for people with desk jobs...
So for those of you with desk jobs. Do you have any tips on keeping up good posture and engaging your core when sitting at your desk? I struggle with this. After a little while, I check and realize I am sitting horribly. I am sure this doesn't help at all. How do you keep up with sitting up straight?

AM workouts?
Do you guys workout in the AM? I have been trying to first thing, but between waking up hungry and needing the buffer time between taking synthroid and eating, sometimes it is downright impossible! Halfway through the workout I am exhausted! What do you guys do?
