Hey everyone! So I am pear shaped (I just end up looking a little less so because I am well-endowed). So what exercises do you do to help balance things out. I feel like I should be working on my upper body a bit so it looks wider, so I look more like an hourglass!

Share your tips! :)

I don't worry about my upper-body as much since I lose weight from the top down. My focus always is my abs, thighs, and butt. I used to hate the idea that the first thing that goes is my boobs, but what are ya gonna do? lol I don't know I think I've gotten to the point where I embrace my pear-ness. :flowerforyou:

Yes you are correct. I've read numerous articles that suggest working out the upper body will help balance it all out :)

Doing longer versions of the Plank and push ups will help with your upper body; your arms, your chest, your back. It is an all round upper body exercise that really shows results!

Have you ever done a barre class? (google it). I strongly recommend it, even if you do it just once or once a month to "remind yourself" of how your womanly body works and the movements and methods that will balance you out and tone you up everywhere.

I'm naturally pear shaped and TRUST ME, if you do one barre class, it will show you and teach you the best thing to do for your body. It is amazing for ALL shapes (its for women only, fellas), but it wasn't until I took my first pure barre class that everything I should be incorporating and doing for body just "clicked".

There are different variations of the barre method and barre classes. Google to see what's available in your area. They can be pricey (anything from $15 - $26 a class), but I can't express to you how much you will "learn".

    A. You can't spot reduce. Continue eating at a calorie deficit and your fat will come off when and where it wants to.

    B. Lift weights. Big muscular shoulders will help balance out bigger hips, and flappy thighs look a little bit better with some mucle under there.

I agree. Since starting strengh training, my shoulders look wider so it balance my hips. Instead of looking like this ^

What are you doing? Focusing on lats and delts? Full body exercises? Something else?

(I'm not anti-muscle definition. Serena Williams is one of my fitness inspirations. :) )

Full body is good for beginners. New Rules of Weight Lifting is a good read but I'm not a huge fan of the routine (or the diet). Starting Strength is good I hear. I just started Strong Lifts 5x5.
