Post open heart surgery lifting routine
I'm in my fifties and was seemingly healthy, but learned last year that I needed open heart surgery. Fast forward to nine months later. I feel normal again and am back to all my previous activities (snow skiing, playing pickleball, etc.), but I've lost a lot of muscle. I've never been much of a weight lifter, but have…

Musicians and fitness bands
Keyboards players, drummers, etc. who use fitness bands for steps... do you remove your fitness band when you're playing music for an extended period of time so you don't get inaccurate counts?

At ideal weight but family says too skinny
About five years ago, I dropped 30 pounds and have maintained that weight ever since... well, plus or minus 10 pounds. Family and friends said I looked great. However, all these resources said I was still "overweight", which was surprising to me. So for a wedding two years ago, I dropped another 12 pounds. When that…

Workout at home with dumbbells and body weight
I have a pair of 15 lb and a pair of 20 lb dumbbells. Where can I find a workout to help me burn another 15 pounds off this 190 pound body and also gain some muscle in chest, shoulders and arms?

Best fitness bands - November 2019
My Garmin Vivosmart HR band broke, so instead of replacing it, I thought I'd buy an Apple Watch Series 5, especially since I'm an iPhone user. Plus the Garmin is hard for me to read without reading glasses. After researching for a few days, identifying the one I want, and adding it to cart, I felt like it was a bit foolish…

Leaving gym - ISO dumbbell workout ideas for home
Let me know if anyone has a good home strength conditioning routine using dumbbells. I'm getting in the cardio by jogging in the neighborhood, but need to also work the muscles. Thanks.

Here to survive the holidays
Hello. I’ve been using MFP for several years now, but haven’t been diligently tracking lately. I’m mostly fit, but could use some toning up.

Turning off social side of MFP
Is it possible to use MFP to track food, exercise, etc. for me and remain friends with others, but to turn off the social side (News Feed)? I see where I can control what's posted on my News Feed from me ("Automatic News Feed Update Settings"), but need to quit seeing posts from others for now.

Where to go after StrongLifts 5x5. Squats too risky for lower back.
I've been doing StrongLifts 5x5 for about two months now and have had a lot of success with it, but because of an issue with my lower back, I need to quit doing squats. Six months or so ago, I injured my lower back just by a sudden movement and it's been slightly aggravated ever since. After starting StrongLifts along with…

StrongLifts 5x5 and adding core to the mix
I had an OMG moment when I looked in the mirror and started to see some definition in my stomach this morning and was wondering if I could mix in some core exercises to my existing SL 5x5 routine, which I'm two weeks into.

Workout routine for guys over 40 who want to look 20
After having hurt my shoulder two years ago, and only jogging since the injury, I'm back at LA Fitness and am looking to nail down a workout routine. I'm actually over 50, but feel like I'm still 40. I've seen so many workout plans, but some only hit each muscle group once a week, which doesn't seem frequent enough. I'd…

Lowest weight since starting MFP five years ago
I just logged my lowest weight since January 2013. In this roller-coaster ride that included daily weight check-ins and 1066 consecutive days logged in, I never got close to my original weight, but went down and up six times. The keys for me over these last two months are... * Determine daily calorie limit and stay under…

Full body workout with chest emphasis
I’m 53 and am returning to the gym and am looking for a workout routine with an emphasis on increasing chest size and showing abs. This is for a routine over the course of days and not a full body workout all in one day (Day One, Day Two, etc.). I’m in okay shape right now (5’ 11”, 188 pounds, 23% body fat, 1,500…

App for tracking strength conditioning workouts
What apps are people using to track strength conditioning workouts? I started again at LA Fitness and would like to track machine, sets, reps, weight, etc., but I noticed My Fitness Pal doesn’t include many of the exercises I’m doing. For now, I added them to my database: Startrac Incline Press, Nitro Vertical Chest,…

Looking to increase upper body without with body weight
I'm a mostly healthy 50YO male looking to increase upper body muscles, primarily chest and arms. Any recommendations with no weights, except for a pair of 20-pound dumbbells? Is SWORKIT a good option? Since I've been jogging for the past five years, my legs are already in decent shape, so I think I'll spend two-thirds of…

Losing weight without running
I typically run to lose weight, but always seem to feel sore, especially in my lower back. What are some good alternatives to running to burn calories that can be done without machines, weights, etc.?
