What constitutes a binge?
I hear that word used all the time on this forum, and I thought that I never have binges, but... Went out and ate thousands of excessive calories this weekend. (As in fries, bbq ribs and wings, Thai food, tons of alcohol. Probably 5-6K+ of extra calories over maintenance. But, I knew full well what was going to happen when…

What do you think of this swimsuit?
http://www.bcbg.com/Halter-Crochet-Monokini/7MA17013-710,default,pd.html?dwvar_7MA17013-710_color=710&cgid=&navid=search#q=crochet&start=6 I just bought my second swimsuit in a month. Without trying it on, online. I thought that the gold crochet style is hot. What do you think? It has that zoom thing, so I can't post the…

OMG, longans are only 2 calories per fruit!!!
Sweet, delicious, juicy goodness! I can really gorge myself on a bag of wonderful ripe longans in the fridge.

Reading makes your life harder.
After seeing a commercial, I wanted to try McDonald’s breakfast biscuit sandwich. I have a weakness for biscuits. So I looked up the nutritional info on the website. 460 calories, OK. I can do that. Only 50 cal more than my other morning indulgence – Pret croissant. (they unfortunately don’t publish ingredients, just the…

Really hungry in the last few days.
So I've been on a net 1,500 calories a day for few months now. And I've been perfectly fine with this, not feeling hungry. But in the last few days I just want to EAT. I feel hungry. Yesterday had one tiny snack after another all afternoon. The only thing that changed is that I am strength training with a personal trainer…

Never complain to a trainer...
that your muscles did not hurt enough. I did not have the expected slight pain in the days following my last session. I brought it up during our session today. . Now I can't brush my hair or lift my glass without feeling it. And that's 2 hours after. I can imagine tomorrow or the day after. Though I am strangely happy.

Another box of Haagen Daz bites the dust.
Every time it is late and I have calories left I reach for the snack sized vanilla bar with milk chocolate and almond coating. I would be better off having a glass of milk. But I want dessert. And at 200 calories it is lower than other deserts I like more. So I go through box after box. Love sugar and cream.

Greek yogurt fail. Help!
So I have a yogurt maker and used to make greek yogurts. The problem is, it only came out 1 out of 3 times. I used another yogurt for a starter and I think cultures are dead in 2/3rds of them. So this is a lot of work for nothing. The last few times the odds were against me even more. It was really frustrating. I even…

What is up with icelandic skyr yogurt?
So I wanted some variety from my normal Fage Greek yogurt. Normally, when I shop for a yogurt I look for three things on the label. 1. Sugar (I don't want them to take out fat calories and replace them with less caloric sugar, which is just as bad if not worse). 2. Calories. (Just something reasonable 100-140 cal, 200 max)…

How does one really know when to stop?
If you have a healthy BMI that is. Are we not conditioned by society and images we see on TV to want to be thinner? How many women do you know who do not want to loose another 5lb? Already super skinny and still photoshopped models look at us from every newsstand. And once you know how to loose weight effectively and it no…

It is very tough to eat healthy in New York!!!
I can have any of that any day of the week. I can have it in under half an hour. And I LOVE it. And I'm not having it :( I often walk past things like that. People who live in places where Dunkin Donuts is their temptation have it so much easier. And that's just the sweets (because I'm craving them right now). At 1,500 per…

Clothing sizes are ridiculous!
Especially Ann Taylor. Yesterday, I was trying on some clothing and size 6 dress was way too baggy. Beautiful color, but looked like a sack on me. I think that is ridiculous because I am 142lb right now, there is no way I can be a size 4. The sizes expand faster than the American public. I have designer clothing from…

Raw quince -- is it ok?
Me and my toddler just devoured one. Now I am looking it up and apparently it must be cooked. How was I supposed to know? It looked like apple and tasted good, just very tough. Baby loved it and kept asking for more. But now I'm nervous. Just read online that someone died after eating one. But it is the Internet. Anyone…

Having fun already!
I'm on vacation in Florida right now. And even though I'm still 10 lb away from my UGW, I'm typing this wearing a bright pink 2 piece bikini! And I was wearing white lace pants and a white t-shirt with horizontal stripes for breakfast and looked good. It is all bull about horizontal stripes. And I ate a full stack of…

Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. How not to have a cheat week?!
I'm a foodie. LOVE food. Fresh food. Good food. Flavorful, spicy. The only way I was able to stick with my new healthy lifestyle for now 5 months is that I cook at home. New recipes, premium ingredients, and than portion control (I know exactly what is in my food and how much I'm eating). I want to eat good food while on…

1,500 calorie brunch and now this! Massive cheat day!!!
I had a massive brunch out -- with giant merguez lamb sausage sandwiches with spicy mayo, and really delicious fries (again, with spicy mayo). A little beer, a little Belgian waffle with toppings like ice cream, cream and melted chocolate... Thats what I get for going to a Belgian place. I thought I would have light dinner…

Do you increase calories when sick?
If you have a cold or a flu, or injury, do you decrease calorie deficit to help your body fight it faster? I have a cold of some sorts, so I decided to increase my allowance to about 1700-1800 until I'm better. Part of me wonders if this is an excuse, or is it really a better choice for my health.

Scotts, tell me about beautiful places please!
After much wavering, I finally narrowed down my choices and decided to spend remaining days of my fall European vacation in Scotland. Now I am faced with hundreds of towns and lakes very little time and it is overwhelming. I thought that perhaps some locals here can offer valuable advice. Primary purpose of this trip will…

What is the best way to transition to maintenance?
I am kind of curious, what is the healthiest way to transition? After months of running a calorie deficit, body is probably very efficient at storing every last calorie it gets, so if one increases his/her intake 400 calories, will one gain? Will one gain temporarily? For how long will it continue? Should I get below my…

Europeans, I'm in need of some ideas for a holiday!
We are planning a 2 week trip (up to 17 days, to be more exact). I already have planned - 5 nights in London, possibly 1 night in Oxford, 3 in Lille and 2 in Maastrich. What would be a great idea for the remaining 4-5 days? Ideally, it would be a beautiful town not too far from my other destinations, where I could scout…

I am NORMAL!!!
According to the government. :) Today, my BMI finally dipped below 25. Granted, I'm on the upper border of normal, and I am not "large frame" (I just have a large head, but when I was fat I really believed I was large frame). but still, it is a huge milestone for me to officially be in a healthy range. I have 10-13 more lb…

"I want results NOW(!!!) and will do anything" theme.
It seems that so many people are willing to do whatever it takes to loose weight as soon as possible, including eating drastically low amounts. It kind of makes me think that they just want to make the giant sacrifice and do whatever it takes and get it over with as soon as possible and get back to their "real" life. I…

Painless food hacks. I'll start with mayo.
I can't believe I used to fry eggplant and mushrooms. They absorb so much oil! Now I steam them. After they are cooked and absorbed all the moisture they can, a half a spoon of mayo (real mayo made with olive oil, mixed in with some fresh pressed garlic and sometimes a dash of lemon juice) will coat the entire thing, for…

Ideas for snacks with tea that are under 120 calories?
Fruit is all well and good on its own, but does not really go with tea. I think I need something flour based. I'm just used to it. But all the usual treats are so above the calorie limit, that they don't make sense.

Easy dishes you thought were difficult to make.
Have you come across a great dish that you mistakenly thought was difficult, but in reality turned out to be quite easy. Please share.

Just re-enrolled in a language class!
I just registered for Chinese language course. Classes start next Monday, 3 times a week. I am a little scared because I re-entered at Level 9, in spite of completely abandoning it for over a year. I now feel like I don't remember ANYTHING! (but I did not want to go down a level). Time to freak out.

Things we are looking forward to when we get fit.
1). Attending a wedding with a lot of old college friends and being hot. The look on faces of people who haven't seen me in a while (I am not posting anything regarding my fitness on FB!) 2). Wearing light summer dresses this summer without pantyhose, and not having thighs raw after a whole day out. 3). The thing I want to…

Racial stereotyopes. :)
This is a little funny. My husband (who is Asian) was recently talking to a downstairs neighbor (a very nice woman) and asked her if she is bothered by our treadmill use. She said that the treadmill does not bother her, but that she can hear more noise when we are practicing martial arts. I just did not have the heart to…
