My staff paid for a masseuse to come and give me a massage today as a gift (the kind with the chair?) Really thoughtful. :)

Forget pounds, we should be weighed in COLORS
Let's just give every 5 pound range one color. Say 280 to 285 lbs = Midnight Blue. I weigh Midnight Blue. ;) Considering individual weigh fluctuates from one day to the next sometimes simply by how much water that chinese meal you had last night is making you hold in, the pound-based scale is just needlessly worrying…

The Scale---What a TOOL!
I've mentioned my thoughts on this in a few places before but wanted to post about just this. This is just opinion. The scale is just a tool, and an imperfect one in telling us how healthy we are. It's imperfect in telling us whether we've lost weight, because it could be water weight, or it could be that we did burn off…

Gave in and have dinner at 3pm
Sounds like an un-success? The success is that I decided it should be called dinner and not just a big "snack" and therefore I didn't have a second dinner like I've done so many times before. Good to be honest with yourself. (also decided to go for a 70 minute walk after the early dinner, so I know it's getting burned off…

Distribution of calories
I usually try to aim for around 400 cals per meal with 300 left over for snacks/dessert. Now I'm wondering if it would make more sense to start breakfast higher and decline the goal with each meal, since I tend not to be very active after dinner. Like 500 cals breakfast, 400 lunch, 300 dinner, and keep the 300 for…

Why slow progress wouldn't be so bad
It takes a deficit of 3,500 calories to lose a pound. If we only lose a tenth of a pound every day by cutting out just 350 calories... Then in one year that's a 36.5 lb weight loss. For me, that's a nice dent in the total I need to lose.

Need Advice for Making Homemade Frozen Lunches
Hi-- Does anyone make homemade pasta and then freeze in tupperware for lunches? I usually buy Smart Ones Frozen meals but they're $3 each on average. Thinking I'd save a lot by making my own, but I've never frozen a pasta meal and reheated in microwave. Is there something specific that needs to be done or just toss it in…

tiny success of the day
we didn't have a lot of trick-or-treaters last night, so there was still a bag's worth of chocolate left. I told my wife to take it with her today to school and leave it in the teacher's lounge. :) Usually i'd be munching on chocolate for days afterward.

My Halloween Strategy for this Saturday
Every year I tend to overdo it on sneaking chocolates whenever I get a chance. This year I want to do better. I've recently been thinking it might be easier to manage my day's calories by aiming for 400 cals per meal and 300 for snack/dessert cals. Strategy for this Saturday is to use my 300 for chocolate! That's about 6…

Eye Opener
I often make breakfast burritos on weekends for me and for my wife. This morning I decided I'd actually count the calories, but before I bought all the stuff I decided to get smaller tortillas and use less of every ingredient. Calculated and it came out to 450 calories, which for me is just fine for a breakfast meal but…

Thanking Mike In Advance of Thanksgiving
I just want to give thanks to Mike for creating MFP. He seems pretty humble. I don't know if you read any of these posts, but Thanks, Mike! J.

Heading to a Halloween Party Tonight
I'm going to a halloween party tonight that I can't skip, because it's work-related and I'm handling admissions, etc. Potluck event, and you know the majority of it is junk. Wish me luck! I'm thinking of drinking half a gallon of water or something to feel full during the event.

Idea for Thanksgiving (Yes, I know, it's early)
I was thinking about making Thanksgiving less about the food this year. Yes, it's supposed to be about giving thanks, which it is, but most of us really also make it about the food. If we didn't have those awesome meals, the holiday might feel really different. What I'm thinking of doing, so that the food isn't such a huge…

Story excerpt for Halloween!
This is shameless self-promo, so I hesitate to post, but in light of tomorrow being halloween, I wanted to share the link to the free excerpt of my novel The Goblin Road. It's the first two chapters, and I think that even by itself it makes for an interesting story. :) http://www.thegoblinroad.com/TheGoblinRoadExcerpt.pdf…

James Brown Wants To Motivate You!
Hi guys, I'm deaf, so I don't get the same benefit of this song, but my wife seems full of energy after listening to this song. Catchy lyrics. :) You can't sit still if you listen to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq1w0syylZI

Freedom by Having Limits
As hard as it is to count calories and be mindful of what I eat and drink, there's a freedom that I feel when I've imposed limits on myself. The freedom is: on days that I succeed in staying within these imposed limits, I am liberated from the opposite habit that got me in this shape in the first place: mindless…

The Chocolate Milk Dillemma
So recently I went to get myself a chocolate milk like I do sometimes. I usually get a nesQuik bottle. However the gas station had chosen to change their supplier, instead stocking Darigold brand Old Fashioned Chocolate milk. The label touted its lack of HFCS, using sugar instead. I was skeptical, then floored by how tasty…

Solved the mystery of why America's portion sizes are insane
Last week, while drinking my "small" (read: ginormous) soda at the movie theater, a light flickered over my head. Then when it went out, the movie started. Then I had a realization. Aliens have increased all our portion sizes in an attempt to fatten us up for their eventual holiday, similar to Halloween, where we're given…

The Waiting Wardrobe
I have about a decade of clothes that do not fit. Shelves full of them folded up and waiting for me to be able to wear them again. Some of them I've never worn- got as gifts from my mom who always thinks I'm smaller than I am. I'd like to be able to wear all of this again and toss things out only when they get too big. If…

The Time-Traveling Weight Loss Method
Step 1: Build Time Machine Step 2: Travel back in time to a point where you were at a healthy weight. Step 3: Do a voodoo magic spell (that you do so well) to possess your own younger self Step 4: Relive life knowing what you know now. Now, where's my wrench?

Any small groups on here?
I notice a lot of challenges, etc...but they get so huge with dozens or hundreds of posts. I'm looking for something a little more manageable.

Tomorrow is another day.
True, Scarlett, but putting weight loss efforts off til tomorrow's a big problem! I often wake up eager to do better today with food and exercise, and generally I go to bed feeling lousy because I overdid it on food (sometimes exercised a lot, sometimes not) Seems like I'm not the only one. I've noticed a fair number of us…
