Low carb and maintenance
Is anyone here still low carbing even though they are not aiming for weight loss? Is there any advantage to it? I usually hit about 100-120g carbs a day, so middling. I don't want to lose weight and do a lot of running. Would I benefit from eating more carbs, or less? I suppose I am wondering if low carb is just for weight…

Building muscle
Is it possible with hand weights? I need to drop about 3-8 lbs of fat and gain the same in muscle, but don't have time to go to the gym, nor do I have gym membership. I do circuits classes twice a week, aerobics and run 3 times a week, and have hand weights at home, but only 6.6lb x 2. Is it possible to gain muscle doing…

Which is more damaging?
Size "zero" culture (which I actually have yet to see any evidence of in RL, it seems to be a magazine phenomenon), or vanity sizing, normalising being overweight? In the UK a size 12 (US 8) is counted as normal to small, and yet at 5'5" I was actually overweight in that clothes size. People complain so much about the…

Children and sport
Do you think children should be made to play set team sports at school, or should they be allowed to choose their own form of exercise from a variety of options? I think as long as they are getting regular exercise, they shouldn't be pushed into sports they have no interest in or even actively dislike. That would put them…

"Don't lose any more weight!"
Do people say this to you? I seem to get it a lot, especially from people a bit bigger than me. My BMI is fine (21.3 ish), and I don't think I look underweight at all, so I am guessing it's because they don't want me to be too much thinner than them? Does your weight loss threaten/annoy people who haven't?
-
Support networks
Do you have one? I have quite a few people I am close to, who I could probably talk to about most things, but weight loss isn't one of them. I don't have any kind of exercise/weight loss support network, in fact if anything, I try to hide it from people around me. I don't like the comments I get about my weight loss. It's…

Why do people argue so much?
Why does anyone care how others lose weight?
-
Cellulite
Does it exist? I mean, obviously it exists in the sense that some people have wrinkly thighs, but is it any different to any other fat? I've never had it even when I was quite podgy, but I sometimes see quite thin people with orange peel thighs. Is it just about body fat %? Or is it a different thing entirely?

Low fat yoghurt - scary stuff!

When did you stop feeling fat?
I hope this doesn't come across as an insensitive question. I just still find myself despairing over my reflection in the mirror, even though I know according to the numbers I am ok. I spend half my life still feeling fat, and the other half thinking I look great, then catching my reflection and thinking I look like a…

What weight does your body WANT to be?
I am currently sort of maintaining at 128lbs (I say sort of as I would feel happier at 125, but am training for a race and want enough fuel), but even at maintenance am hungry pretty much all the time. I remember this last time I was a weight I was happy with too, when I was 16-23. It seems that to be the weight I feel…

Following on from do you look older or younger.....
I think we should do a thread guessing ages, without cheating and looking at our profiles. So, I'll throw myself in at the deep end...how old do I look in my profile pic? And no being flattering! Just honesty.

Coconut
Good or bad? It is very high in saturated fat, but is that the same as saturated fat from meat and dairy?

Sports bra rant
WHY do so few companies make sports bras in a 28 back??? Surely a fair proportion of people who run/need good supportive sports underwear are pretty thin????? I know 2 companies who make them, but almost no one stocks them in that back size. Most seem to start at a 32, which is huge.

Craving salt
I find on the days I exercise, which is most, by the evening I am really craving salt. I don't track my sodium, I don't really eat any pre-prepared food, and I am vegetarian, so what I get is whatever I add to my food. Is it likely that I am not eating enough given the amount I am sweating out? I got really bad cramps in…

Muscle vs weight loss
So, now I have lost the weight, can I build muscle, or is that just, like, totally the wrong way round?

What's your secret?
Seriously, if one more person asks me this, I am going to scream. Why do people assume I need a secret to lose weight? Is it in any way secret that you just need to eat better and exercise? There is no secret to weight loss, you just do it. Or you don't.

What determines success?
What is it that makes some people succeed and others not? It took me 8 months to lose 22lbs, from around 150 to 128. I exercise quite a lot, I eat fairly healthily, with some blips (chocolate blips, not fast food). I think that loss is fairly average speed-wise at my size. But during that I have seen some people take…

Chocolate!
I am not a fan of it, but I thought there are a lot of people here who might want to read this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-14679497 Basic gist - chocolate prevents coronary heart disease.

Maintenance
When you switch to maintenance, what did you set your cals to? I am terrified of the weight creeping back on, but probably shouldn't lose a lot more (I am 128 lbs at 5'5").

Do people assume you have always looked the way you do?
It's weird. I was always a UK10 pre-children, was quite fit and average weight. Then I put on weight having the children, and was a UK 12 for 6 years. I am now an 8 (though I think that's mostly vanity sizing, I should really be a 10). The people I have known since I moved house 4 years ago keep going on about how much…

Knee pain
I have been running a year now, and all good, but in the last 2 weeks I have had bad knee pain on my right side. I can't think why it would have started now, when I haven't changed anything, I can't think of anything obvious I have done to it. It is fine while I run, but really painful for walking, especially downstairs.…

Does this ring a bell with you?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b013y2b1/Cherrys_Body_Dilemmas/ I have always been a bit wobbly about how I look, but I just can't imagine worrying so much about my weight or individual body parts. I think she looks great, thin, even.
-
Which bit of you do you like best?
I think for me it's my hair, and legs. Though since losing weight I find I quite like my wrists too.
-
Peanut butter - again
How do you fit it into your diet in a calorie sane way? I don't particularly like it, but have been having a bit of sugar free whole earth stuff, I like the crunch, but it has about 1000 calories per spoonful. Seriously. How does anyone on a reasonably low intake (I am on 1360 calls a day to lose the bare minimum of weight…
-
Protein fills you up?
Does it, really? I have been trying to get a bit more protein (greek yoghurt and eggs, mostly) recently, and I find I am hungry very soon afterwards. If anything it makes me hungrier, not less, and yet I hear again and again that protein keeps you feeling full longer.
-
What is your definition of "thin"?
Is it technically underweight, healthy weight, bones sticking out, or just thinner than you? I think I see people as thinner than me as "thin" and people bigger than me as "a bit podgy". That definition hasn't changed with my weight either. My mental perception of normal seems to be whatever I happen to be.

Explain something to me (calories burned)
So I just did 10km on a rowing machine, very fast (split time of 2:20). My HRM says I burned 470 cals. The computer on the ergometer says I produced 570 cals of output. How does this work? My husband, who is a high level rowing coach and works in the fitness industry and my friend who is a doctor (and also rows) both say…

Indian take away
What do you get when you get an Indian meal? I am looking for healthier options. I usually only get vegetable side dishes, but they are often swimming in oil. *disclaimer, before anyone tells me takeaway food is baaaaad, we only get it two to three times a year, so it's not an integral part of my diet, just an occasional…

Vegetarians!
What is your best non-meat protein source? I am not a mad protein obsessive, but I am consistently under (though a lot higher than I was), and aside from greek yoghurt need something to give me an extra 10g a day ish. I don't like shakes. I only eat real food.
