Weight gain advice for coaliacs
Does anyone have any advice for a friend of mine? She is has coeliac disease so gluten free, and really struggles to keep weight on. She has always eaten around 2000 cals a day or more(at 5'8"), and can't get her weight above 130lbs, which is fine, but if she is stressed or busy it plummets. Being a last year medical…

Energy gels/drinks
Inspired by the hydration topic....can anyone recommend any energy products that don't cause stomach upsets? The ones I have tried are all either completely disgusting or make me ill, or both. I love the idea of energy beans, but I can only find mixed flavour packs, and I am allergic to citrus, so the idea of sorting…

Different scales, different weights
I started out weighing myself on my parents bathroom scale, which is about 30 years old and probably not that accurate, but I have based all my measurements on here from it. A couple of times I have got myself weighed on one of those big machines at Boots that takes your BF% as well, and measures your height. This always…

"Just" Cardio
I often read "You won't gain muscle by just doing cardio" but what exercise IS just cardio? Running and cycling build leg muscles, rowing builds them all over, as does swimming, I can't think of any sport where the cardio aspect is balanced with some strengthening effect. So what is "just" cardio? Air punching?

Running with a hangover
I can do it tomorrow, right?

Exercise burning less
Do you find the more you do a type of exercise or workout program, the fewer calories you burn doing it?

Taking partner's opinion into account
I am 3 lbs off my goal (at least, I was when I last weighed, 3 weeks ago), and I still think I have some weight to lose. I talked to my husband about lowering my target weight, and he said he didn't think I should lose any more, and I should be looking to maintain now. His reasoning is that he says I look like my skin is…

Dry skin
Since starting on here I have had really dry skin. Last week when I went to get my legs waxed the girl doing it commented and said I should moisturise. I told her I moisturise twice a day. She then asked if I drank enough...yes, I drink masses (not that there is any evidence that water consumption has an effect on skin…

Wheat
In England I don't eat wheat as it makes me bloated and sluggish, but I am in Italy at the moment and I can't resist pizza! The problem is, despite 2 stone of weight loss I look pregnant. Does anyone else do this with wheat? I can't eat pasta at all, it makes me vom.

Runners
How many calories do you burn per mile, on average? Do you find it varies with speed?

Overweight children
I may have posted this before. I seem to be stuck in groundhog day. Anyway. When you were a child, were there overweight or obese children? I remember 2 at my school, in the entire 5 years of senior school, and maybe another 2 at my prep school. I was always on the podgy side as a child, at least, I was by the standards…

What do you treat yourself with?
When you have reached a goal, or worked out hard, or need a pick me up, what do you treat yourself with? I don't like sweet things like cakes or chocolate, so I don't have those, really. I do love crisps/chips, but I know how bad they are for me, so I try not to get them, and limit myself to stealing a few of the…

Do you tell people what you are good at?
Are you someone who broadcasts your strong points to the world, or are you are reserved and are slightly embarrassed about the things you are really good at? Do you think the people who like telling others about the things they do well are actually any better at those things than the ones who prefer to keep quiet? Being…

Do you overthink weight loss?
I see so many people on here getting bogged down with the little details. As far as I am aware, and I AM aware, I have studied sports nutrition and human biology at length, calories in vs calories out are it as far as weight is concerned, and you need to watch your micronutrients for optimum bodily function (so eat real…

Nearly at goal weight
I am 3 lbs off my original goal weight and look fine in clothes, but am so saggy without them. The post baby tummy (and my youngest is nearly 4, so it's not a recent thing) is looking worse than ever. I do a lot of abdominal exercise as I do boot camp and legs bums and tums classes as well as a lot of running, some rowing,…

Interesting video
This was a documentary by Dawn Porter, who tried to get from a UK size 12 to a US size 0, which is 4 dress sizes, I think? Anyway. There are times when she is a bit annoying and you want to scream "WHY ARE YOU DOING IT LIKE THAT?!" But overall, the point she makes is very interesting, as are the results. Anyone who is…

Right and wrong ways to comment on weight loss
So in the last months I have had - "You look amazing" - Great! like this one "You have completely changed shape" - hmm, are you saying I was a blob before? "Your mother must be so happy, she was always negative about your weight" - well yes, and yes, but only through her own bonkersness. I was never actually overweight…

I don't like peanut butter. I don't get what people like about it at all. What food do you not "get"?

Men and women - weight
Men - would you date a woman who weighed more than you? Women - would you date a man who weighed less? At my biggest I was the same weight as my husband (he's quite thin naturally, but 6 inches taller than me), maybe half a stone less, and I felt like a fat heifer. I would hate to weigh more than the person I was with, as…

Which HRM (UK)?
I am thinking of finally succumbing and getting a HRM. SO which would you recommend for a woman, who has to wear industrial strength underwired bras while exercising? I have had problems with the chest strap sitting in the same place as my bra strap, and both those things are non-negotiable, they have to go where they go!

Nosebleeds
I just went for my first run for 2 weeks as I have had tonsilitis and been resting. At about 3 miles in I got a massive nosebleed, which stopped almost straight away, but I got some rather horrified looks from the passing cars on my way home! Anyone had this? The only times I have ever had nosebleeds before is when I am…

What do you make of this?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-13948071 Pretty worrying at a third of the US population are obese, and reinforces my belief that constant snacking is a habit we should be aiming to break. Not snacking in the evenings has been a huge contributing factor to my weight loss.

10k to half marathon
I am stuck at the 10k distance at the moment, I do 9 or 10km each time I run, but I can't do any more. The most I have done intentionally is 12 km, and the idea of nearly doubling that to a half marathon terrifies me. How often do you have to run to build up your distance? I only get 3 mornings a week child free to run, so…

Lower back muscle
Having lost a fair amount of fat, I can now feel my hip bones and coccyx at the back, and am finding it quite painful doing things like sit ups as my bones dig into the floor. I don't think I have any muscle there, there just seems to be a tiny bit of fat, then straight to bone. Is there any exercise I can do to give…

Eating when you are ill
Having been fine this morning and gone to my aerobics class as usual, I then came down with something very suddenly mid morning, and now have full on tonsillitis, can't swallow, chills (despite it being 30 degrees), aching all over, pounding head, the works. I can't bring myself to eat anything other than high carb, high…

Running and carbs
I try to keep my carbs low if possible - I don't usually eat bread, rice, pasta or potatoes, but I am finding on the days I run I crave carbs, and if I don't get it in complex form, I start really needing sugar. I have read in running magazines that runners shouldn't low carb. Does anyone here have any experience of trying…

Eating in summer
What do you do on days when it's hot and you can't be bothered to eat? I often find this in the summer. It's really warm this evening, I have 900 cals to go and I just can't be bothered to eat anything.

30 day shred rant
Does anyone else think the 30 day shred is a total waste of time? I just went through it with my new heart rate monitor and in 25 minutes burned a pathetic 125 calories. I probably could have burned the same doing some of the insane amount of housework I need to do, and achieved something rather than wasting half an hour.…

Endurance athlete vs body builder
There seem to be a fair few people on here who aspire to the body builder look, and therefore eating and workout patterns, and the other camp of mostly runners who are aiming for high performance in cardio sports. There seems to be a lot of animosity between the two sides in terms of training schedules (weights vs cardio)…

How many calories do you burn?
For those with a HRM - Running? Cycling? Rowing? Zumba? 30DS? P90X? I am interested to see how my calorie burn compares to others.
