For those with a HRM -

Running?
Cycling?
Rowing?
Zumba?
30DS?
P90X?

I am interested to see how my calorie burn compares to others.

Last night on 30DS I burnt 169 calories. I am sure that it must vary from person to person :)

It varies from day to day and intensity level, but I tend to burn roughly 600 calories an hour doing any of the things you listed. Well, more like 300 for 30DS but that's just 28 minutes. Although I've been doubling up Level 2 and 3 the last few times.

(Oh, and I haven't tried Zumba.)

Oh, and obviously our burns won't compare as I am older, male, and bigger in the first place. :)

I've only used my HRM for two days so far and for the 40 minute Insanity workouts it said I burned 295 calories each. I feel like I'm doing more than that, but whatev. lol
  • Zumba is roughly 10 calories a minute, depending on the intensity. So if you do an hour it would be almost 600

For running (intervals) and cycling (spin class) I'm right at 10 calories per minute. Rowing and Zumba, hardly anything-I'll walk my dog before I do Zumba (more a function of the instructor) and rowing I can't do for long because my shoulder starts to "click". Don't have 30DS or P90X but when I lift, I will burn around 235-250 for 45 minutes. To put it in perspective, I'm 5'9", female and weigh 137ish.

I have a TX-300 from walmart with specific settings for different workouts and these are what I get:

I weigh 195 (ish) with around 15% BF.

    running (8 min/ mile): 450 calories in 15 minutes on a track
weight lifting: today was 400 for 45 minutes, monday was 300 for 45 minutes (different workouts).

Kristy - I just started Insanity this week... not sure I'll be able to keep it up because it is really crushing my knees. Are you having any issues with joints? I'm just wondering if it is me or if the program is just generally hard on the knees.

For just about any cardio machine, I tend to burn about 10 calories per minute. The only exception is on the treadmill, if I walk, it's less but if I do high incline or intervals of running, I'll get that same burn. it definitely varies depending on intensity though.

    I'm 5'7", 196 pounds, female and 37.
