Nosebleeds

I just went for my first run for 2 weeks as I have had tonsilitis and been resting. At about 3 miles in I got a massive nosebleed, which stopped almost straight away, but I got some rather horrified looks from the passing cars on my way home!

Anyone had this? The only times I have ever had nosebleeds before is when I am pregnant and my nose gets really dry. I have never had one just because.

I tend to have nosebleeds sometimes. 'specially when I least want them. Mine don't go away so easily though. Might have something to do with allergies, or dry sinuses? Haven't had any in awhile though.

When I was first prescribed a steroidal nasal spray for allergies, I got a few random nosebleeds. I had to cut back to using it once a day instead of twice and the nosebleeds stopped.

I have taken anything nasally, though I have been on antibiotics for a week, and taking paracetamol and nurofen. Can they cause nose bleeds?

I do get hayfever, but in April/May. I am fine by the summer.

The Nurofen (if it's some sort of pseudophed product) might be drying your nasal tissue out too much and raising your blood pressure a bit, making you more susceptible to nosebleeds. The antibiotics and Tylenol shouldn't produce nosebleeds, but the Tylenol will slow down your clotting a bit which can make a nosebleed a lot more impressive.
  • My son's, neice, sister suffer from frequent nosebleeds. Doc said that it could be several different factors, one of them being overheating the body. Of course your body can act like an air conditioner, which is why we sweat, but the warming up internally can cause nosebleeds. Another reason was a change in external temperature, as well as dry nose.

My heart rate was a fair bit higher than normal for a slow run, so you are probably right about the nurofen.
