Anyone give up - and not miss - their fitness tracker
Loved my last two Fitbits but a bit peeved they’re lasting only about 1.5 years. This latest one is dead - still trying to fix it - but wondering whether it’s worth buying another one or another tracker at all. I was in my best shape without one, but with one, it’s been easier and more fun to get back in shape. I just hate…

Back squat alternative (hack squat vs leg press machine?
I’m on my own tomorrow - had my last personal training session yesterday and the one thing that still makes me a little anxious is the barbell back squat - mostly because I’m afraid I’ll hurt my lower back - been there and my trainer has given me great lessons on form - just still nervous. I’ve researched and read…

Wider back after strength training?!
Hi. I’m about to repeat Strong Curves and have great results last time I did it - except for the bigger back. It was harder to button my shirt, although everywhere else - weight, hips, waist - decreased. I definitely was in a deficit and trained 3 days a week. Are there certain exercises that could result in a wider back -…

No sedation Cataract surgery?
Is this possible? I can’t understand why when I tell docs my elderly mom will not get sedation - she’s phobic - docs shrug off her concern. “It’s safe, quick, our anesthesiologists know what they are doing”. I’m just not sure why they either say it can’t be done, or they don’t want to do it. To shrug it off seems…

Losing weight harder closer to goal?
I’m sure I missing something just don’t know what it is. I’ve accepted that weight loss Is harder closer to goal - I have about 8-10 to lose and lost three in January - although from all my hard work and consistency of weighing food, tracking, training etc, I would think i would’ve lost all 10 this month. Which got me…

Kinesiology tape?
Hi, All. Anyone use this successfully for pain relief - specifically lower back pain. Have had an SI issue for the last couple of years, tired of the pills which don’t seem to help anyway and frustrated by the conflicting info from every health provider I’ve seen - all reading the Ana X-ray and mri. Hoping this may be…

“Mind body connection” before strength training?
Hi. I received great feedback from folks here about how to work with my personal trainer and therefore asked that we focus on a progressive strength training program. She replied that we will “get there”, but wanted to make sure we focus on “mind body connection and stability first”. Is this a long way of saying “form”…

Question for personal trainer or those who used one?
Happy Holidays, All. Would it be a waste of time and money to use the personal trainer I hired to use one of the Strong Curves programs to guide our sessions? I thought I could do it on my own but I know I’ve hurt myself in the past with either bad form, lifting too heavy, or something else. I’m still have lower back pain…

Fitbit - reasons for increase in resting heart rate?
Hi. Should I be concerned? In case pic doesn’t show on 11/11 my RHR was 59. Today it is 69. The main changes - holiday was stressful - no sleep, slept on couch so back is in pain, different diet, and didn’t hydrate enough. Would this all cause this big a change?

Personal trainer - day one question
Hi. I had my first meeting with a personal trainer today. Went over goals, weaknesses, etc. Had a great session, learned a lot but wondered when she was going to take measurements. I told her what I thought I weighed and how much I wanted to lose but just wondering if one of your stated goals was to lose weight and inches…

Need feedback on my LDL
Hi. I received two very reactions from two docs (one internal medicine and one cardiologist) about my LDL score of 155. The IM doc said it’s high, not too high, no meds needed, suggested ashwaganda tea. The cardio told me that he knows nothing about the tea, wants me to get a cat scan for calcium deposits, and if any…

To those who are happy with their body
Did you find a strength training program and follow it, or do progressive overloading, or anything structured - or not? I’m finding it’s hard for me to stick to a program (life’s curve balls) and really just want to lose weight (20 lbs) and tighten up. Is going to the gym and doing some stuff here and there (some machines,…

Anybody had to totally give up deadlifts and squats?
Hi. This is essentially what my doc told me today given issues with my lower back and hip (herniated disc, pinched nerve, hip impingement). When he saw the crushed look on my face, he reinforced through animated pics what the movements were doing to my back and hip, and it then made sense to him why I haven’t gotten rid of…

MFP and Fitbit Folks: Customizing exercises?
Hi. Would anyone know if there is a way to log either within Fitbit or MFP specific workouts? For example, I have finally found a menu of workouts I love to do - but instead of “weights”, “yoga” “aerobics” or “calisthenics” , I’d like to log “les mills combat and blogilates 12 min Lower abs”; or “Reebok step aerobics plus…

Bone broth and other reset diets? Worth it?
Hi. After a long stressful 6 months, I’d like to reset - eating better, feeling lighter, etc. Strangely, I’m the same weight I was 6 months ago — i just knew I had gained a lot of weight - but my clothes feel about the same or only just a tad tighter? I’m contributing this to the two progressive strength training programs…

Using different progressive strength training programs
Hi. Is there any benefit to using or buying different progressive strength training programs? Or do you use one and just progress. Every once in a while I’ll hear about a wonderful program and feel the need to buy - usually that’s when I’m losing motivation, not because of the program but general life circumstances that…

Best rep range for fat loss
Hi. Sooo confused. I am making a final decision on what plan to follow after completing the 12 week SC advanced gluteal goddess. I’ve feel stronger and firmer, lost inches, but want to strip some of the fat so I know that’s more nutrition. After looking for a new three day full body workout though, I’m overwhelmed. I see…

Huh? Size 4 at 123 pounds AND 141 lbs?
Any explanation? Long story shortened: was 147 ( my highest), panicked, ate less by a lot, exercising two times (treadmill, light weights, bikram yoga) a day about 4 days a week. . Got to 123 (my goal was 135 where I seem to level out). Moved, had injury, less exercises, self-pity eating, holidays- gained to 145. Panicked.…

Buying used Powerblocks without warranty?
Would you buy these (urethanes 90, 50lbs max) used? No lifetime warranty but would save me $175. Or shell out the extra and be at peace with the warranty if anything goes wrong? Thanks!

Powerblocks - which to choose?
Happy New Year, All. Got a monetary gift that I want to apply to getting Powerblocks and got overwhelmed by the options. I'm 53, 5'3, 135 and would like to lose 10-15 lbs. I'm starting strong curves again after an injury (can't rule out that I was letting my ego determine the amount of weight I was using - without regard…

No dairy, alcohol, or sugar for two weeks??
Hi. This is the advice my friend's trainer gave her at her first session yesterday. We have similar body types, just would like to lose about 5-7 lbs in vanity weight - in our belly area. Is this good advice? The trainer is considered an "elite" trainer given her experience, but it struck me as odd given what I learned…

For strong curves grads
Hi. I just completed gluteal goddess and would like to continue with Gorgeous Glutes. Since Goddess was advanced, the beginning part of Glutes seem a bit easy. Could I start with the harder workouts in week 5 and continue from there, instead of starting with the weeks 1-4 exercises? And for those who did Glutes, did you…

Progressive overload - scale weight?
If i am progressing (newbie doing Strong Curves) each week, will the scale weight keep rising to reflect water retention? Have been doing SC for four weeks - no weight change at all until the fourth week - 136.6 to 133.0. The slowness of the weight loss freaked me out a bit, but I tried to remain patient. After the fourth…

"Self-preservation mode" by MFP blogger
Can this happen? Or nonsense? Aka "starvation mode". The below was from one of the MFP articles today: 4 Signs You're Eating Too Little When Trying to Lose Weight 4. Weight bench - seat adjustment feature?
Hi. Any idea how important this is? Just finished physical therapy (hip impingement and lower back pain) and ready to start Strong Curves - at home to start. I'm sooo nervous about hurting my back again but don't know enough about this feature - specifically whether it's worth the $100-150 extra cost, or an easy fix if I…

500% wrong on nutrition label?!?!
Is my math right? Something I thought based on the nutrition label was 5 calories per tbsp is 25 per tbsp? I confirmed the difference after calling the manufacturer after it tasted too sweet to be that low in calories. They're "looking into it". Huh?!?!

Success at 100 carbs and losing?
Hi. Anyone experiencing or has experienced this? I have 15 pounds to lose but and had trouble sticking to keto, a little more success at sticking to 50, but thinking I can be more successful at 100. Lost only a pound in two weeks. Plus - everyone once in a blue moon, I'd really like a bagel, or bowl of apple cinnamon…

Progressive overload gains with upper body only (injury)?
Just to manage my expectations, I know I shouldn't expect the same results if I was doing upper AND lower body (diagnosed with hip impingement syndrome?!?!), but anything I can do to come close? Orange Theory - Progression and heavy weights
Hi. For my next exercise program, I am looking for someone to track my progress - i.e. - when to increase weights so I'm not spending months lifting the same pounds; heavy lifting; and correct form, and track measurements. Does OT offer all of the above? Some?
