TDEE calculation
I'm 37 F 189.6lbs and 5'6. I have a desk job. I workout 5x a week, typically burning on average 600 calories. My BMR is 1560. I have my goal calories set at 1400. I have a question about TDEE. So, if I don't exercise weekly the calculator says my TDEE is 1870. If I exercise 5x a week my TDEE is 2200. Now, is that 2200…

Running Shoes
I can't remember if I read it on MFP or somewhere else on the internet, but I read running shoes are only good for 300 miles. Is this atrue estimate? I am, by no means, a "runner". I like to walk/run about 4-4 5 miles 5x a week. I just feel a pair of shoes that only last 300 miles kinda sucks. Are there better shoes out…

? for those with amazing success stories...
Please tell me that you had days where you almost went double over your calorie intake. This lifestyle has been easy for me to stick to, except special occassions are extremely difficult--ie birthdays, thanksgiving, christmas, weddings, etc. I go in with a gameplan and it all falls apart. I'm not as strong as I want to be.…

Macros
I really haven't concerned myself with monitoring my macros, but I know it is something I want to look closely at in the future. Right now I'm typically staying under my calories, carbs, and fats, but going over on protein and fiber. I honestly don't feel like I have a diet high in protein, so maybe it is set too low for…

NSV--Advice givers
I started this lifelong road to health back in August. I just decided one day that I was tired of being fat and unhealthy and I wanted to change. In the first few weeks I had several coworkers/friends/family giving me advice--"Cut out carbs" or "7 day fast" or "Atkins is the only way" etc etc. From the very beginning my…

Treadmill incline
I have seen several people on Treadmills at the gym doing a 12-15 incline. They hold on to the handles and walk at a steady pace---not really fast, but not leisurely slow. When I walk/run on a treadmill I am on a pace of 4.1-5mph and I vary the incline from 0-3. (I run at 0 and I walk at all the other inclines). What kind…

Preparing for a plateau
I don't believe I have hit one yet. There are a few weeks when my weight hovers, but eventually it drops. Why does our body reach a plateau? If I do reach a plateau, if I just keep at it will my body eventually drop the weight? Or do I need to trick my body? Edited to add: I use a food scale and I wear a HRM when…

C25K App users
I would like to start trying out the C25K approach. Right now I do 60 minutes on the treadmill. I would say 45-48 minutes are walking at 4.0mph, and then 12-15 minutes are running at 4.8mph. I would like to start the C25K because I would like to (eventually) run a 5k without walking. The problem is that if I'm inside on a…

What do I need to know about 30DS?
Until now all of my workouts have consisted of walking/running. I think I want to add to the mix. I'm going to continue my morning workouts at the gym. I'm thinking of adding 30DS to my nights. Where do I begin? Where do I get it? Do I need anything to do it?

Food calories vs Net calories
So, on days when I don't exercise and I eat less than 1200 calories-- MFP gives me a warning that I'm eating too little. However, on days I exercise (I use a HRM so I have a good idea calories burned) If I eat 1300, but only net 500 I don't get the error message. So, is it safe to eat 1200 calories of food in a day and…

Serious question for men
I was with a guy for 3yrs. He wouldn't make a move on me unless he was drunk. If I initiated sex--he would have sex with me. He often would "take care of himself" in the shower or when I wasn't home. He thinks I didn't know--but I'm not an idiot. I feel I'm attractive and I never had complaints in that area before. He said…

Quest Bars
I recently tried a Quest bar and the flavor was just "ok" and the texture was really chewy. Are all Quest Bars chewy like this? I think I tried the Vanilla almond crunch (or something like that). I ended up only eating half and I threw it out. It kind of tasted like uncooked dough. Which, I think someone said there is a…

Glaceau Fruit Water
This fruit water is so delicious. It doesn't look like it contains aspartame or splenda. I'm wondering if this is better for you than diet soda, because sometimes I need something that isn't "flat". These are the ingredients: Carbonated water Less than .5% of: Citric Acid Magnesium Sulfate Natural Flavors Sucralose…

NSV over food
I don't mean to offend anyone by what I'm about to say, but I can't believe I didn't start at 330 instead of 230. For years I have eaten whatever I wanted and when I wanted with very little exercise. My typical days were McDonalds breakfast (an easy 700 calories), a bag of chips or candy bar mid morning, some fast food for…

TOM and BCP (Not for guys)
Guys--If you decided to read this anyway I will tell you it is about my period. If you still want to continue reading I find that awkward, but have at it! haha I'm on the generic form of Desogen (Apri) which is a 21 active pills 7 sugar pill Birth Control. The doctor prescribed it as follows: I take 3 packs of active pills…

Polar FT4
Has anyone experienced a problem with their Polar watch where you are in the middle of a workout and it says "Check your transmitter"? This seems to happen to me a lot. I don't know if I need batteries. If I need it tighter. I don't know what I'm doing. I typically stop my workout. Then restart my watch. It drives me…

Pre/Post Workout
I just joined a gym. Last week I was on vacation so I leisurely had my morning coffee. Then I would eat breakfast. Then I would go to the gym. Then I would eat a protein filled lunch. Then carry on with my day. Unfortunately I live in a small town right outside of a bigger city. There isn't a gym anywhere near my…

Guacamole
I love, love, LOVE guacamole. I make my own with avocados, tomatoes, onion, garlic, chiles, lime juice, red pepper, salt, pepper, and cilantro. It is pretty healthy and absolutely delicious. Problem is what can I eat it with? Regular corn/flour chips are high in everything bad for you. Any other ideas for dipping?

Another cardio/core/exercise question
I started walking in late July. It started as a once-a-day walk for about 25min. Then I pushed myself up to 30. Then 35. Then I started watching my calories and tracking everything. I now walk/run about 4miles in 60min. I realize it isn't fast, but my heartrate is up there! My question is I have lost 40lbs tracking…

Outdoor running vs Treadmill
I started exercising in July by walking outside up and down a lot of hills in my town. Then I started walking and running. I did this until October where wet winter weather graced Nebraska--and really hasn't left. This week I started using a treadmill at the Ymca. I workout for about the same amount. I always stretch…

Headache
Last Thursday (Thanksgiving) I got drunk and had a hangover the next two days. By Sunday I pretty much felt better, but I still had a slight headache. I've been chugging water for days, taking sudafed in case its a sinus headache, and advil. I've tried caffeine. I still have a headache. Today it is pounding. Anyone have…

Nutrients
Ok, I understand calories in/calories out and eating at a deficit. All calories aren't created equally. I'm being kind of lazy and not using the search function on this site. I also don't know what to actually search for. What I'm wondering is what does each component do for us? Protein? Carbohydrates? Fat? Sugar? Fiber?…

Cut me some slack--Treadmill question
Since August I have been walking/running outside, but with the high in the teens I refuse to work-out in those temps. I got a YMCA membership and today was the first day I used a super fancy treadmill. I probably haven't been on a treadmill in 20yrs and there is a big difference between treadmills then and treadmills now.…

Food Porn
I used to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE watching Food Network. I called it "Food porn". Now I find I really can't watch it because most of the shows aren't calorie conscious. Anyone else have this problem?

Screen tongue
Awhile back (actually before I started caring about a healthy life for myself) I saw a Dateline or 20/20 about extreme weightloss measures people take. Earlier today someone. Commented that they were 230lbs and wanted to be 200 by January 2nd. I replied to the OP that it wasn't realistic. Then I remembered the show I…

Food scale question
The serving size, as listed on the back of a box angel hair pasta, is 200cal for 2 oz. Here is my stupid question--is that dry weight or after boiled? If it is dry weight, how do people measure out a serving size when others are eating with you? Do you measure and cook yours seperately? Obviously if it is 2oz after cooked…

YMCA
I'm super excited that I'm FINALLY getting a gym membership this Friday! Until it started getting cold here in Nebraska (about 4 weeks ago) I was doing walking/running 1-2 times per day, and about 5-6 days a week. I loved how in the morning it made me feel accomplished. I wasn't tired throughout the day. Then after dinner…

BMR and TDEE
So unless we go to a place like the Bod Pod, the calculators we find on multiple sites are just a reference. How much should I account for error? 100-200 calories? Has anyone that has had the bod pod experience compared your results to the online calculators?
