just wanted to say...
I ran my first half marathon, in Warrington, on 9 September...and I loved it! It was a bit warm but I did it in 1 hour, 54 minutes, 46 seconds. I was aiming for anything under 2 hours so well pleased....and I have SO been bitten by the bug! I've kind of lurked on this group but it has been really valuable - many thanks!

10-mile race training - advice please!
Hi there, I've signed up to run a 10-mile race in mid-June. I've run 10 miles a couple of times on my Sunday long runs, but the longest race I've done has been 10K. Does anyone have any strategy tips? Also, what should be my longest run before the day? My last 10K race time was just under 55 minutes and I'd like to aim for…

how do you know when your running shoes are done for?
I'm starting to think that my normal running shoes *may* be losing a bit of their spring - but how do you know when it's time to bin them and get a new pair? Is there something I should look for, or can a running shop tell you, or do you just go by feeling? I've had the shoes since last July but I wouldn't have thought…

Recovery shakes - any recommendations?
My other half got me to try one last week (For Goodness Shakes) and it did seem to help. Thing is they're only available online. Can anyone recommend a recovery shake they've tried and liked that's available in UK shops? Thanks in advance! F4

Bike advice - any recommendations for a first bike?
I've decided I'd like to learn to ride a bike (never learnt when I was little as I grew up on a very busy road with sedentary, risk-averse parents!). So I need to get a bike. I've had a look on the web and I think I should get a hybrid or a comfort bike. I'd like to be able to ride on roads and also cycle paths/fairly easy…

First 10K race Sunday week - any tips?
Hi there, I'm running my first 10K race on Sunday week. I've run the course route before and it is a nice gently undulating run. As it's my first time out, do any of you more experienced runners have any tips for me? I have upped my long run by degrees to 9 miles. I did a 10K round my local village which has bigger hills…

first 10K race Sunday week - any tips?
***Hi, I posted this first on a specific running forum and got no response so I am trying on a more general forum. Don't worry, I won't be posting on every MFP forum, just wanted to try asking one more time! Many thanks.*** Hi there, I'm running my first 10K race on Sunday week. I've run the course route before and it is a…

10K NSV
So I'm running my first 10K race in a few weeks and the local running club did a 'run the route' event this morning. I knew I could run 10K but running with real runners? From a running club? Scary. I figured it was worth going along to check out the route and pick up tips, so along I went. We were split into 3 groups: 45…

A good book on running - recommendations pls!
Hello all, I started running mid-2011 with C25K and now am getting a little more serious - have signed up for a 10K race in February and am planning to do a half marathon later in 2012. Can anyone recommend a good book on running - technique, speedwork, avoiding injury etc? So far I've managed not to injure myself but I…

5K NSV
Well chuffed today...managed to get a lunchtime run in and did 5K in 27 minutes bang on - that's nearly a minute off my previous best time. According to my GPS I ran one of the miles in 8:22 - I've never been below 9 minutes before! Go me!

10K - do I run the risk?
OK, have seen a 10K I would like to run in Feb - only thing is I haven't run 10K without stopping yet - halfway through bridge to 10K so 3 weeks to go. I'd like to wait until I know I can run 10K in under an hour before signing up - but apparently the race is really popular and if I wait I might not get a place. Do I go…

5K NSV
Hello all, I started couch25K in June this year and finished it in late September. Shortly afterwards I started doing parkrun, which is free 5K runs every Saturday morning in various parks around the UK. It was my fourth parkrun this morning. I drove over in the rain, thinking 'This might not go so well.' My home run is…

NSV - back in a size 12!
Had to go to a meeting at work today which means being slightly smarter than usual office wear. Pulled out reliable work skirt (generous 14), climbed in, zipped up....and it fell down onto my hips! Time was short (school run time approaching) so pulled out another skirt which would match rest of outfit, figuring that I…

finished couch to 5K today!
Ran 5K in just over 29 minutes this morning, in the rain...ridiculously pleased with myself!
