New to Yoga -- share your success stories, please
My 10-year old daughter is an inspiration to me. Her body is strong, flexible and lean thanks to gymnastics and dance. It has made me aware of the strength and flexibility that I have lost over the years and has given me the determination to get it back. I am particularly weak through my core and know that the longer I…

Holiday Lessons - learned the hard way
Between work, the holidays and kids' activities, I was looking forward to relaxing the reins over the holidays. I figured I could splurge here or there and not have too many problems because I had gotten into some pretty good habits. If I gained a little weight over the holidays (say 2-3 lbs or so), I would have been ok.…

Let's make a holiday promise together...
Various studies show that people can gain anywhere from 1-7 pounds over the holidays. And as I look at my calendar, I see a slew of fun holiday dinners, parties and get togethers in my future. The cookies, the drinks and all the merry-making are a weakness of mine, but I don't want to backslide on the success I've made. So…

A freezing NSV
Tonight I chose to run 2.5 miles in 35 degree weather at night instead of going out for treats with my family. I am still in shock!

NSV: thinking about food differently
In previous weight loss efforts -- you know when I was "on a diet" -- I would obsess about what I couldn't or shouldn't eat. I would long for treats and second helpings. I would deny myself chocolate or cookies -- and then spend the rest of the day haunted by the thought of them -- or eat something and then regret it for…

I'm not turning 41 - I'm turning 40-fun!
Today is my birthday, and I gave myself the best birthday present ever: a happier, healthier me! This improved me is: -- 26 pounds lighter (exceeded my birthday goal of 25 lbs!) -- 10.5" inches smaller -- Almost 4 minutes faster (running/walking) -- Made exercise a habit I enjoy -- Developed a good relationship with food…

Meat Mummy: It's what's for Halloween Dinner
Every year, I try to make some sort of "gross" food for Halloween dinner before we go out trick-or-treating. Here is tonight's delicious fare. And planning for it will help me keep in my calorie goals for the night!

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference
The dreaded workout -- an exercise of pain and forboding. That's what it used to be for me. It was always something that I *had* to do, never something I *wanted* to do. And quite frankly, I never understood those folks who looked forward to their workout, or complained when they missed one. In an earlier post, I wrote…

Anyone need the time...I've got the hourglass!
After watching what I eat, adding in cardio and now lifting 2-3 times a week, I am glad to report that I have lost 10.5" inches and regained my hourglass figure. I have also lost enough weight to equal half of my 5 year old daughter. This is a good way to start the new week!

Not tonight...I have a headache.
My NSV for the evening: Despite having a low grade headache all day, I went for a mile and a half run in the dark and kept one of my fastest paces. I did this instead of popping my huge bowl of buttered popcorn and plopping down on the couch. Yay, me!

NSVs help carry me through...
I've been stuck in place. And I know that less my less than stellar eating plan is the problem. But I have diligently logged and continued to exercise. Over the last week, I have had a number of really great NSV that have been helping me refocus on my purpose and goal: 1. My pants are getting too big and my belt is now…

NSV: Stalled, but didn't backslide
So I haven't lost weight or inches. My exercise hasn't improved and my eating habits went down the drain. And I consider this a NSV? You bet! Here's what I didn't do that quanitifies as a NSV: I didn't lose sight of the progess I've made. I didn't stop logging what I ate and the measely exercise I did do. I didn't lose…

Plus Size NSV
Recall the days of going shopping and having to get another size, another size, another size because it just didn't fit. Yep! I just had one. But this time instead of going up, up, up, I went down, down, down. Where a 1x was getting pretty tight, I know comfortably fit in a size large. And that happened in just two months.…

30 Day Shred Questions
I am thinking of starting 30 Day Shred. I've downloaded it to my iPad and just need to get going. Have a few questions: - How do you account for your exercise time? - Any Fitbit users -- how many average steps do you accumlate from each workout? - What are your reviews? - What has your success been like? I've been…

Slew of NSV!
I (re)started using MFP 45 days ago. I also started using a FitBit Flex on June 5th. I am proud to say that I have tracked every bit of food and exercise over this period and have a slew of NSV to celebrate: - Reduced my per mile walk/run pace by 2 minutes -- in the heat of summer! - Dropped two inches and one cup size in…

Exercise doesn't have to kill you
One thing I just learned -- exercise doesn't have to kill you. In the past when I've started exercise I went all out -- pushing myself to do more and harder each time. I got sore -- and thought I was doing things right. I hated the idea of going to exercise and didn't feel any better about it when I finished. And it lasted…
