21 stone to 26.2 miles in 18 months - can it be done?
On a recent night out with my bosses I brought up the subject that, after two years of mad working/travelling, I had started running again which is a very good sign that things in the business have calmed down and I can refocus some time on me. I have put on 5 stone (32kg) in the last two years so I know I can lose it. I…

Creating an exercise space / gym under quarantine
I know a lot of us are finding a space to work out at home. So my family voted 3:1 on the space we were going to use as exercise space (I was the 1). This is where they chose; Guess who gets to sort it out? I'll post an after picture if I ever get out from underneath this lot!

CAPTAIN'S LOUNGE - JANUARY CHAT
Good morning All and a Happy New Year to you! Not meaning to step on anyone toes I started the January chat for shrinking assets. I edited Greg's group version to create a version that can be copied and pasted to other groups without editing. I then added a second posting specific to team SA. Please delete if I have done…

Stop trying to kill other MFPers - the salt issue
Okay so that is a bit strong however it is not unusual for people with both low sodium intake and high sodium intake to suffer serious health issues including heart attacks and we, as a group, are not understanding the salt / sodium or gram / milligram requirements on MFP. Most food packets give you the salt content of a…

What have you learnt?
Someone was asking motivational quotes and I haven't got any so thought about something I did earlier this year. I asked myself if I could go back 10 years and give younger me advice from my new experiences what would it be? Then I asked myself am I following that advice now because if I am not I really am a dumb@$$ and I…

Cancer Research : Cycle 300 or Cycle 200 in September
Raise money for Cancer Research whilst getting fitter. I am not a cyclist and haven't been on my bike for a good number of years however I really fancy this as something to do good for others whilst doing good for myself. This won't be easy for me and I am looking for a group who can support each other through this. I know…

Apparently this group has 8,849 members - so how are we all doing in the British summer?

In 5 weeks you will weigh...
Don't you just love the message at the bottom of the 'Food Diary' that says "If you continue like this in 5 weeks you will weigh xxx". The trouble is I just checked and 5 weeks ago mine said 236.4lbs. An impressive 18.4lbs from the weight I was at that time. Currently I weigh in around 247 lbs which I don't think is a bad…

Dieters being ripped off
Has anyone got suggestions for healthier foods that are not just ripping off those that wish to eat healthier or has anyone got suggestions of what to avoid. I was at Zizzi's at the weekend and went for the 'Skinny' pizza which turned out to be a pizza 1/3 the size of a regular pizza with 5 prawns for it's topping. They…

Things to do / Places to Eat in Sussex
You can all set these up for your county. A good space to share. I took a walk along the Seven Sisters trail - awesome, beautiful day for it, pretty much flat all the way, even in the rain it wouldn't be a bad walk. If you haven't tried it is worth a half day out / full day with a picnic on the beach. You can also hire…

Sugar recommended limit seems ridiculously low
I am well within my calorie count and all macros except sugar, everyday sugar. Today is a typical day so my sugar comes from; Veg & Rice 15g Semi-Milk 21g (Porridge and one latte) Raw Fruit 31g (Banana, Orange, Pear) Porridge is one of the healthiest breakfast options and I've cut down from 3 to 1 latte a day. Should I eat…

Get it off your chest - have you been insulted because of your weight and did you reply?
It does seem the British reserve is less and less apparent and people feel the need to speak whatever crosses their mind without having a filter before it leaves their mouth. Has it happened to you? I will add my experiences later but wanted to know if I was unique or just unlucky?

Lose a ton of weight! Only new losses
Posted this thread last year but it lost it's way as I did. We can lose a ton of weight between us, that is 2,240lbs to us Brits (sorry to our US friends but we claimed it first!) This is only new losses though if it is your first posting you can add any loss from the last check-in. It needs to be a genuine ton lost so if…

Why are you here? What do you want to do now you are?
What brought you to MFP? Mistyped muffinspal.com? No, were you just bored one day? No, you came here for one of two reasons; 1. You wanted to change something. You did, so have you? I know I went hell for leather and then skipped recording the odd meal, forgot about the occasional pint, stop recording food at all and…

Come on UKers - Are you up for this?
I know MFP is dominated by those across the pond though despite having nearly 6,000 members this is one of the quietest groups there is. I guess we only have around 2,000 active members so around 500 who will look at this, so here's the challenge. We talk about "losing a ton of weight" so lets do it. When you have your…

Knowing how far / fast you have walked
I had been estimating previously but have been given a great site, http://gb.mapometer.com/, which gives really accurate walking distances and then by knowing how long it takes me I can work out the speed. Give it a whirl, you might be surprised just how fast you were going...

Why is healthy food soooo expensive?
Went for lunch and, frugal as ever as money is always tight nowadays, went to the supermarket - weighed a conference pear, 70 pence for 1 pear, SEVENTY!!! I ventured to the ready meal aisle and compared a popular 'diet' brand to standard meals, sure the low fat option has less calories but then again it has 15% less…

Family dragging you down?
Only been on a programme for a couple of weeks and weekdays are fine, however as soon as I am with my family there is pressure for eating out, snacks, and pretty much anything that isn't good for you. Combine with that the constant needs for lifts, jobs to be done, etc and the time for exercise gets seriously limited. I…

Why do they pack soooo much salt in?
This is only one example, I bought a tesco bbq pork noodles meal for tonight, 465 cals and very low saturates, all good I thought. Just added it to today's diary in anticipation and it contains 150% of my MFP sodium intake!!!! Letting tesco know my thoughts on this but pre-made meals might have to take a back seat for a…
