Suits
I'm a SAHM right now, but when the youngest starts school in August, I'm probably going back to work as an attorney. I have about 8 suits in my closet, but, really, only 4 are cute. Tell me to purge! There are weeks when I might need to wear a suit twice if I purge, but it would only be once or twice a year. And, if you…

Dealing with the Weather
I don't belong to a gym since every time I did, I never went. :( I workout by jogging in my neighborhood, working out at parks, or doing Netflix or library DVDs at home. How do you handle the Louisiana summer? I've been working after the afternoon showers, when possible, and bringing water, but it's so hot and wet? Any…

Getting Out of Workout Clothes
I am a SAHM, and I tend to put on workout clothes, stay in them all day, workout, shower, and then put on pjs. I really need to put on some real clothes. I feel frumpy. Any of you don't work but still get dressed everyday? What about working people on weekends?

Local Foods as Part of a Low Cal Diet
Lately, I've been boiling shrimp (just frozen Louisiana shrimp from the freezer) with some small potatoes, aparagus, and mushrooms in crab boil for a light lunch. Ideas for eating other local favorites in a healthy way? I'd REALLY love a healthy recipe for Crawfish Monica. Impossible?

Worry About Never Seeing Grandkids
Anyone else worry about never living to see their grandkids? I have high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and bad cholesterol, plus asthma and some other stuff. I'm trying so hard to get healthy, but with my kids at only 6 and 3, I wonder if I will live long enough.

Mexican Restaurants
I really like Mexican food. I don't eat out a ton, since cooking at home lets me control my calories, but last night I had to go to get Mexican. In the past, I simply ate less the rest of the day to compensate, but yesterday the restaurant stop was unplanned and unexpected. I got fajitas and only ate the meat (about 4…

How Much Do You Actually Lose Per Week
If you actually are diligent about staying within your calorie limits, how much do you actually lose per week? I have MFP set at losing 0.6 per week, and so far I've lost 0.6 exactly and 2.2 the next week. I'm pretty strict about staying under my goal, but I'm usually within 50 calories of eating my allotment.

Kids - Do They Eat Like You Do
Last night I was eating stuffed jalapenos (stuffed with center cut bacon, onions, and light cream cheese, carefully measured out to stay under calorie goal) and a grilled corn on the cob. I noticed that I fed one kid a corn dog and the other a frozen pizza, I guess because I could not imagine feeding a kid a pepper. But…

Kids Equipment as Exercise Tools
Today, during my workout (while watching The Biggest Loser on Netflix ;) ), I pulled up my kids' potty step stool and used it for step aerobics and stepping. I used a chair for tricep dips and bicep curls and other arm exercises. I used a big rubber bouncy ball for squats, to help me keep proper form. And I used a jump…

Working Out With the Kids
How do you incorporate the kids into exercise? I usually work out by myself (while daddy watches the 3 and 6 year old, especially when they are at karate class), but sometimes, they are with me. I walk in a park that has a playground inside of the walking track. They play on the playground and run around in the park and I…

Breaking Up Exercise Throughout the Day
How do I record exercise that I break up throughout the day? How little can I record at once? Usually, I exercise in one long session. But I have laryngitis and a cold, so I've been doing little seven minute stretches of exercise today. Seven minutes seems to be when my body just says no. (I've had a couple of rest days,…

Packing for a Work Weekend
My alma mater does a social service weekend. Basically, we stay in dorms all weekend and paint them, move furniture, clean - whatever physical labor needs to be done. (Think Habitat for Humanity type work.) I'll also be helping with cooking and childcare. I also hope to lead a walking tour of the campus on Friday night and…

A Minute or Two at a Time?
I'm recovering from a viral infection. Sore throat, achy chest, sniffles. There's no way I can do my usual 30 minute minimum daily workout. I tried the last two days and it put me in bed with my asthma inhaler. Instead, I am doing strength exercises (pushups, crutches, squats...that sort of thing) in one to two minute…

Date Night Overeating
I went on a date night with hubby last night and overate. I was careful all day (planning for the date) and only went over my daily calorie goal by 850 calories. (I say "only" because I'm very strict about staying under calories every day, so this one time cheat shouldn't have a huge impact.) I was careful to eat a lot of…

Head Colds and Exercise
Everything I read says to exercise if the cold is above your neck. I have a sore throat and headache and sneezing. But I also am sore and achy and tired. I usually exercise every day, resting by changing up the part of the body that I exercise. Should I skip or push through?

Coffee
I drink coffee every morning. I use Splenda (a lot, because I like it very sweet) and a bit of fat free half and half. I measure out the half and half and log the 20 calories everyday. I *feel* like I eat less because of my decadent 20-calorie treat every morning, but I wonder if the caffeine actually makes me more hungry.…
