HRM & Heart Rate
My HRM allows me to set a target zone for my heart rate. At 40, my maximum HR should be 220-40, or 180. I will get my HR up into the mid 150's (e.g. 157) and not feel out of breath. Should I set my target HR zone for 144-162 or 126-144? How did you determine your target zone? What did you decide to set yours at?

Spreadsheet for Calorie Tracking
A person on another site designed a spreadsheet that you can use to track c25k calories. The post is at the bottom of this page: http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_messageboard_thread.asp?board=0x788x27553109 (Here is the link to the spreadsheet cited in that post: http://www.sendspace.com/file/3sty7d)

Back issues: Adding new exercises.
I have been running c25k for a couple of months now, and am ready to add something else to my exercise regimen. My neuro wants me to swim, but that is not feasible for me at the moment. I used to do 30DS, but that irritated my back and my neuro recommended I stop doing it. c25k seems to loosen up my hips, so it helps with…

Post-Valentine's Day
Dear MFP'ers, I hope that everyone had a great Valentine's Day! I hope that you were able to enjoy yourselves and eat healthy. However, if you ate one too many sweets, as I did . . . Or, your significant other (spouse, gf, bf, close friend/buddy) did not live up to expectations or had no clue what Valentine's Day meant to…

Simple Carbohydrate Cravings
I have been craving (and eating) sugar and bleached flour breads way too much lately. (Part of it is because I failed to make my own lunch to take to work, so I ended up eating cafeteria or deli food instead.) How can I (or anyone) kick the sugar habit? Also, does anyone have any advice on how to banish sugar cravings when…

I thought I was getting in shape, but . . .
then I tried climbing up the stairs to my friend's walk-up apartment. There were three, if not four, flights of stairs. I carried my 24" suitcase with me (not too heavy this time 'round). By the time I got to the top, I felt like I reached my maximum heart rate and was to the point where I could not talk without stopping…

Week 2
I am starting this today! I've been using the Christian Indie Tracks (http://www.buriedtalentsband.com/C25K/) and am pleasantly surprised at how good they are. I really am motivated when using them. I hope week 2 is as nice.

How do you deal with friends who want to go out to eat all t
I have some wonderful friends, but of those folks, there are a few who seem to do nothing but go out to eat or go to a party where there is food. How can I motivate them to do something else when we hang out together? Please give me ideas!!! I want to do more with them than just pick the next best restaurant.

Pity Party - Life not as planned.
Does anyone else deal with this kind of depression? (Warning: may be TMI for some people. I was going to edit it more, but felt that many people have similar struggles from time to time. So, I thought I would leave it as-is to help others.) I am feeling sorry for myself. I am looking at FB and seeing all the wonderful…

Sick in Bed for Two Weeks, How do I get back on track?
I have had, among other things, a bout with bronchitis. So, the past two weeks have left me with little energy and, for the most part, bed-ridden. I am building up my appetite again, but don't even know where to start with activity. I have been doing some light stretches but don't know if I should even think about…

What do you eat after you've thrown up?
Sorry, I don't mean to make you think graphically, but I do need some advice. I don't often get sick like this, so I forget what to do. Last night, I threw up about three times. I felt awful! Today, I am well rested, but am feeling a bit off still. I know it is because I could not get any more calories in last night…

These pants are driving me crazy!!
Ok, so I've finally lost enough weight that if I don't wear a belt, my pants could be pulled off quite easily. But, I am not small enough to buy the next size, nor do I have the money to sink into them to have them tailored to fit. So, has anyone any ideas to make my clothing more bearable until I can fit back into my old…

I Need A Big Picture Kind of Exercise Goal
One of the reasons I am on MFP is to get in shape. I am horrible at exercising, but I do love adventure. Today, I stumbled across something that I think might motivate me, simply because if I don't take any baby steps, there is no way I will ever accomplish anything like this in my lifetime.…

Vitamin D
Hi all, I have had a heck of the time getting my Vitamin D levels up for good. My doctor put me on prescription strength Vitamin D, and that helps some. But, he reduced my dose and my levels dropped a little. So, I know that my habits still need a lot of changing. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so, what foods would…

Does anyone else feel this way? (i.e., Weight loss is a loss
I haven't felt this way before when losing weight. Usually, I am happy to be gone with it. But, this time, I feel like parts of me are disappearing, in the sense that it is a real, living piece of me, kind of like a bit of my existence is passing away with each pound. Now, I know that this can be positive with some people,…

NSV: Shopping
I noticed that I was walking taller today and that I could not feel the weight in the shopping cart. (It was only a few things, but still, I used to have to "push" even that.) It's my revelation that exercise works, and that I was truly out of shape. I'm not in shape yet, but this encouraged me.

Does tossing & turning burn calories?
Last night, I could not sleep. So, I pretty much tossed and turned all night. It was exhausting! I finally fell asleep and slept the entire morning away. I know the main cause is that I waited until the last minute to do 30-Day Shred, so I won't do that again tonight. But, I am starving today, even after I've eaten my…

You don't look like you need to lose weight. Huh?
"You don't look like you need to lose weight." I heard this compliment again tonight. However, my muffin top is still very obvious. I don't doubt their sincerity, but I do doubt their eyesight. :-) Has anyone had a similar experience? What has been your reaction?

Ever have a bad day?
I am so frustrated today. I am sick of being round (shape). I don't feel well. My anxiety is high this morning, because I have so many things in life to juggle right now. I just wish one thing was in control. Any advice for keeping perspective?

How to Do the 30-Day Shred
This helped me, so I wanted to pass it along. http://www.ehow.com/how_5363883_do-jillian-michaels-day-shred.html The only suggestion I have is to use lighter weights and build up to the 5 lb. mark. (Jillian moves so quickly. You don't want to hurt yourself.)

Chronic Pain & Working Out
Please answer only if you suffer from chronic pain. Thank you. :-) My doctor tells me that I should stretch. That's the easiest part. She also tells me to exercise. The purpose of this is to keep my muscles from getting tense and to strengthen them so they support my spine better and "pull in" my discs so they can heal…

My story
Hi everyone! I am so happy to be here with you! This is my story: Since having bronchitis last summer, and multiple flareups over the year with my back and allergies, I have probably been less mobile than I had been in the year prior. Having gotten down to a size 10 that was beginning to fall off of me the year before, I…
