WOW! I've come to an amazing self-realisation...
So this kinda just hit me over the weekend. I've been eating more to lose weight since the start of July this year. I did an 8-week reset, and have been at cut since the last week of August. As I was getting dressed the other day, I realised....oh...my...goodness... I'm actually *happy* with the way my body looks! This was…

When should I take a rest week (esp from strength training)?
I know I'm supposed to take a 'break' from eat at TDEE after eating at about 4-6 weeks at cut (I've decided that I'll do my TDEE break after 6 weeks at cut - but that might change, I'm only on day 4 of week 1  ). I'm apprehensive about 'double shocking' my body by increasing to TDEE after 6 weeks and taking a full…

Need advice please! Using my HRM while on cut.
Hey lovely people, So today is day 2 of cut for me, and since I'm eating at a lower calorie level (2180 versus 2480 which is my TDEE), I'm paying more attention to calories burned during my workouts to ensure that I don't net below my BMR of 1600. So essentially, I understand that if I burn more than 580 calories in my…

PLEASE remind me that this is normal...
SIGH. Okay so this week has been my first week of doing proper heavy lifting. I've been doing mainly body weight training up until now, but yesterday in particular, I went all out and pushed myself. I got in an amazing workout - it really felt like a challenge and I have this crazy feeling all over my muscles today. I…

Just finished week 6 of my reset...but LOST weight?!
Okay. I'm very confused. I've been eating at TDEE of 2480 (occasionally 100-200 over that) for a full 6 weeks. During that time, in the first week and a half my weight jumped up from pre-reset weight of 77.8kg to about 79.5kg. Over the past 3 weeks my weight has stabilized to 79 - 79.2. This made me think that I was eating…

How heavy should i go?
So if you're a friend of mine you'll see that I recently discovered a little GEM in the gym in my apartment building. It's got one of those Hoist H4400 multi-weights machines, which I used for the first time yesterday. My question is about how heavy I should go to begin with. Do I just go immediately to as heavy as I can…

The importance of EM2WL friends
I just wanted to quickly say that I'm totally astounded by the tremendous support and encouragement I constantly get from my MFP friends - it honestly makes such a difference. Having you guys is seriously incredible and it's a joy to be sharing my weight loss journey with you all. Sometimes you just need someone else to…

Resistance bands/body weight training - yay or nay?
So I posted a thread a week or so back, asking for tips on how to combat budget constraints while wanting to lift heavy. What do you all think about resistance bands and/or using your body weight for strength training? Will it come to a point where I'll hit a certain point and then be unable to go further? Any…

Should I adjust my TDEE when I don't hit my exercise goals?
Hi all Today is the last day of week 2 of my reset. I've been eating at my TDEE every day - 2480. That's my moderate exercise number. Usually I have no problem getting in my 3 to 5 hours of exercise, but I've been run down with a cough and headache this week so have only managed about 1-2 hours of exercise. Do I need to…

Woohoo! Finally hit (and exceeded!!) my protein goal!
Being a veteran protein undereater, today was a HUGE victory for me. I had 199g of protein, which is 13g OVER my 30% protein goal. And I did it without the assistance of protein shakes too! Yay for lean meats, cheese, yoghurt, and peanut butter baby! Very proud of myself :) Question though - is it recommended that we avoid…

Best way to use HRM to ensure accurate TDEE?
So I have a Polar FT7 on the way and I'm super excited. Using the TDEE calculator (scooby) my TDEE is 2480, based on the moderate exercise category. I'm just wondering, can any fellow MFPers shed some light on how using a HRM will help me ensure I'm on track in terms of hitting the right TDEE? I'm aware that you can't…

Just ordered a Polar FT7 HRM online!
I'm so excited I can't sit still. I also live outside the US so it'll be a good week before it arrives. SIGH. How have fellow EM2WL-ers found having a HRM helps things?

Need some convincing on the importance of rest days!
So I usually do at least the 30 Day Shred (23 mins of strength training, high intensity cardio and an work) every day except Sunday. I'll also throw in 2 or 3 20-min runs or pure cardio DVDs when I have the time. Today, although I had planned to do the 30DS, I just felt like taking it easy. But, I've been feeling super…

Want to start lifting heavy but on a budget - tips?
Hi all, So I've been doing some moderate strength training (mainly calisthenics, so squats, lunges, and upper body work with 2 x 2.5lb hand weights), but I know that to really see a change in my body composition, I need to start lifting heavy. I'm 5'9", 77.8kg, and in theory I'm about 5kg away from my "goal weight", but my…

Should I net at BMR? Or slightly above?
I've somehow managed to confuse myself. Quick info: 26 year old female, 5'9, 173lbs, 27% body fat. Work out 3-5 hours a week, burning an average of 2500-2700 calories a week through exercise. TDEE is 2489. Cut is about 2110. BMR is 1610. I'm just trying to work out my average daily deficit. On days where I have a higher…

Carls Jr burger for dinner? Don't mind if I do!
WOW. I *love* that I just had a normal, delicious burger (and small fries!) and that I don't feel guilty in any way whatsoever. I planned my meal from earlier today (a horrifying 1030 calories all up - definitely a "treat") but having more than 1200 calories meant that I had plenty of nutritious, filling meals for…

Signs of EM2WL success - tangible inspiration!
So, I'm just trawling the forums at the moment trying to absorb as much as I can. My husband has actually gotten to the point of asking me what I'm so obsessed about because I'm constantly on these forums both on the laptop and on my phone. I'm a newbie EM2WL-er. I'm on day 10 of eating at TDEE - 15% (which is 2100). One…

RAVENOUS after upping cals to TDEE - 15%
Hi everyone I've been obsessively reading about eating more to weigh less for the past week, and I have NEVER been more convinced about any other health/weight loss approaches! A little background - I'm 26, 5'9", weighed 87.2kg in September 2010 and went down to 77/78kg a year later by following weight watchers and doing…
