!!!!!!!!!!HAPPY THANKSGIVING !!!!!!!!!!!
Here in Canada everyone seems to be putting up their Christmas trees. When I took Jilly for the morning totter (at the moment, almost better) Joan the craft lady was putting up a Christmas tree in our reception Hall. Wreaths are appearing on doors in the corridors. Seems a tad early but certainly pretty.

After a dreadful night of aches, pains and little sleep I’ve got the message but thank you Anne, it always helps when friends nudge me in a sensible direction. I stood under a hot shower for several minutes this morning, swallowed a couple of ibuprofen then took George and Betty round the block. Linda’s first words when she saw me were you look exhausted and she was right. I did remember the kale though Lin! It’s another dismal, damp day so we didn’t go far, but found a quiet coffee shop and sat in a corner to talk about plants, the local district council and my brother’s funeral. Quite a mixed bag and goodness, she has already bought a pack of tomato seeds to germinate for next year! I have done very little since I got home and will definitely have an early night but good news, the Ibuprofen seems to be working.
Good to learn that explosion wasn’t terrorist related. Our news outlets presume every incident is negative!
So much to do Lin! Like you I have a soup project for tomorrow.
A great photo Sandy with what looks an energetic pup!
Happy Thanksgiving to all friends in America.
I must cook a light supper then off to bed.
So far, staying upright!

Good day. I have had my feasting day eats! Yummy!
I am watching the dog show and then plan to watch my DVD of WKRP in Cincinnati’s famous turkey episode. Then onward to some stamping and then oh my gosh, I have inky stuff to clean up.
A real Thanksgiving cactus.
Anne, well, my neighbors put up their outdoor holiday decorations over the last few days. Best done outside when the weather is workable and the ground not frozen. BUT they are already lighting them up each evening. Wow! I hope they bring you that chair soon. Necessity!!
Sandy, excellent photo of you guys and it looks like you’re loved by that pooch! Enjoy the day at your son’s home.
I hope everyone is having a good day. Be safe.

Our day has been delightful. Even waking up almost an hour late, I managed to cook the turkey, walk 10,000 steps, walk with the dogs and my friend, give Jake chance to go to the grocery store, go to my 9 AM zoom meeting and have our turkey meal ready to serve before noon. Later we got a few texts and phone calls, watched some tv, and played with the dogs.
After dark I put up my one holiday decoration, a holiday theme penguin over the pole light in front of the house.
I am so grateful to all of you and how you share your lives with me and listen to my stories. This is an amazing place. Thank you.

Walking this morning was fun because the wind was howling but with my coat hood up over my head I was protected. George and Betty loved running circles as we climbed the hills and now fed and watered, they are snoozing in the garden room. On the way home I stopped at the store for milk and bread but noticed fresh, hot pasties had been delivered from a local bakery so bought one for my lunch. I’m now going to finally finish the kitchen decorating by removing the fridge/freezer from its alcove, washing the area and then painting the wall.
Lin, your Christmas cactus looks happy! Sue the gardener left one with me when she moved away that had been her mother’s. It has been in loan for over 4 years and began its stay in my greenhouse but was never happy so I brought it indoors. Once it finishes blooming it goes into the spare bedroom.
Barbie, it certainly seems you and Jake had the perfect Thanksgiving. The pooches too I bet!
Time to check the hens are happy and if their feed needs topping up then it’s on with the chores.
Happy Friday one and all.
Jackie 🥰

Happy Friday! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Rob and Lisa's with the three dogs and I am grateful.
Kelly, Will and Rilo will be leaving today to spend a night downtown Chicago. It was great having them with me and look forward to the next time.
I hope you all had a great day as well whether celebrating or just enjoying life.
Have a good day.

I just lost a post. Don’t ask me how, just melted away like the first snow flakes that floated down today for the first time. I hung my old Christmas wreath on the front door it seeming appropriate with a snow flake and minus 2C.
Thanks for not telling me off JACKIE,! I visited the nurses office expecting to get plasters ripped off but no,
Rose the nurse renewed them and gave me a mild lecture on how old folk regularly “all fall down” and hinted about walkers. What!!!!!! This had me and Bean tottering off on our mile and a half walk. She’s now sleeping and I’m feeling quite drowsy with the electric fire that Mike gave me last Christmas turned on! I got weighed whilst at the nurses office and I’ve lost three pound whilst here. That’s in three months. Not sure if it’s the walking or the meals. Today’s lunch was cauliflower soup, three battered chicken wings and chocolate mousse. If at “home” I would have added a baked potato dripping in butter and a veggie!
I don’t think I told you that we had our first Corvid case? Freda was confined to quarters for two weeks with her dog Mollie. Posters all over her door announced it was an infection zone and all cleaners, meal dropper offers etc were not to linger. She’s been back in circulation for two days. Said it was horrible and she caught it at a Christmas church bazaar. You have been warned. No one else caught it.
And that’s about it from here in the fast lane. A nice mellow winters day. Glad everyone enjoyed the US thanksgiving.

Hello, day is done! I got some laundry finished, checked out some online sales, and worked on my December card donation. Got a lot accomplished, should only take a few hours to finish them. I got a stack of mail to sort through. Ended up with a few things that need attention. So I need to go to my bank and the post office. I have to get another birthday card in the mail and I would like hand cancelling rather than the machine processing.
We are expecting a couple inches of snow. I wouldn’t mind waiting longer!
Barbie, your Thanksgiving sounds like a perfect day.
Jackie, that is a gorgeous blooming plant! Mine is quite tiny but it fits on my kitchen window sill. Oh yes, it sounds as if you found a tasty treat at the store. Did you get the painting finished? I hope you are getting a good night’s rest.
Sandy, I love that photo. What a lovely family. I think that dog is quite fond of you!
Anne, my goodness, losing weight. Are you feeling okay? Are they starving you? Sorry to hear there was a case of Covid but glad no one else picked it up. Glad to hear that you are warm and cozy in your apartment.
Be safe everyone.

Happy Saturday! Family zoom call and church later, nothing else. I put up all my Christmas decorations yesterday even though it was a spontaneous moment. We are expecting snow tomorrow so a good day to stay home by the fire. Have a few things going on this week again including a doctor's appointment Monday for my back. I am hoping for another shot since I still get some pain occasionally.
I will try to schedule therapy again for my knee although it doesn't seem so painful so I might change my mind on that. I have a dinner with friends I haven't seen for a while on Thursday and Friday is my nieces' husband's 70th surprise birthday party. It never ends but keeps me moving.
Hope to get to the Dollar Tree to pick up all my Christmas cards and Aloha's First Birthday.
I am just waiting for the accountant to fill out some paperwork for me but I really don't think I can win against our government. I will have to make some adjustments in my spending with the loss of money.
Have a wonderful day and keep healthy and happy.

Quickie from me because we are going for a walk before the weather gets colder. It’s 3 degrees right now. Balmy!
Lunch was good and we started off with sweet potato soup which was bland but tasty. The woman next to me swamped hers in half a pot of salt and half a pot of pepper. Then she sent it back to the kitchen saying she couldn’t eat it because it was too spicy. Some mothers do have them, as we used to say! I’m looking forward to supper which will be my favourite. Hawaiian chicken.
Had a thought LIN, maybe I didn’t lose three pounds. Maybe the nurses weighing machine is more accurate than my wee still at home scale.
Anyway, I promised the Bean an outside walk whilst the weather is balmy! Bye for now,
Anne.1 -
Sandy, you accomplished a lot! All ready for Christmas now. We have snow in the forecast for later today and into tomorrow. Actually, I see some snowflakes right now. ❄️❄️ Another busy week coming up! Take care of your back and your knee.
I didn’t get to the post office this morning. It is small business Saturday and getting to the post office would be hectic. The shopping area near the post office is very popular. And I found out the branch of my credit Union has shortened its hours and is closed on Saturday. There is only one branch open on Saturday morning and the trip there and back would take about an hour and a half. Not something I wanted to do today. I will wait until my branch is open on Monday.
I did finish my charity donation cards. Hunting for envelopes to put with them. Might even get a few of my Christmas cards put together. They are pretty much all card fronts. Definitely not ready.
Anne, maybe you are right, their scale is likely much different than the one you are used to. Glad you and Jilly are taking your walks. ❤️❤️ I hope you get your chair soon.
Be safe everyone.

Similar cold spell here too. When we walked it was just 2C and our view from on high showed the fields below were sparkling under a covering of frost. Both the dogs were enjoying themselves so we stayed for an hour and walked just over a mile. Nothing like Barbie’s number of steps but enough to give me an appetite for a slice of toast smeared with Linda’s homemade marmalade. The veggie raised beds have now been cleared, beetroot dug up and garlic cloves planted. I also discovered late bunches of French beans on climbing vines and steamed them for my evening meal. A couple of phone calls later the fires were lit and suddenly it’s nearly 9pm, heading for bedtime!
Well done Anne. Very wise to skidaddle from the nurse with grand plans for walkers! Far more sensible to keep fit as possible and I’m sure the Bean helps you do that. I find myself tripping at times as do friends my age but so far we laugh it off! I expect your little tummy is missing your English home cooking to lose a few pounds but hopefully you will adjust. Still few veggies though? Interesting isn’t it how culinary tastes differ.
Painting finished Lin, at least in my kitchen. Next is a second coat on the dining room ceiling that’s been waiting far too long but I might not do that until the New Year.
Another lovely family photo Sandy.
I’m now going to see if I can find a movie worth watching before bed.

Almost dinner time here. Jilly Bean was a naughty girl today. When we came into reception we came face to face with a large yellow dog. Normally Bean runs behind me when she meets a dog but not this time. The place was teeming with family visitors and Bean stood her ground and barked loudly at the quiet yellow dog. At which point I galloped off at great speed to our apartment. I’m hoping there are no comments at dinner time! I can only assume she is getting too big for her paws! And thinks the home is now her domain - plus not wanting to share treats with another dog of course!
GREEN veggies and peas in short supply here and I’ve only seen potatoes twice in three months. The favoured veggie is peppers. I’m beginning to look like a yellow pepper. Oh and pickled cucumber. I had no idea old folk can consume so much protein mainly in the form of chicken. I don’t think I’ll ever really adjust and the next time I’m at a groceries I intend loading up on kale etc. Otherwise everything else is great. I never thought to ask if the home catered to vegetarians when we first applied.

I don’t believe it. After what I said earlier we had mashed potatoes and two tiny pieces of broccoli mixed in the sauce of the inevitable peppers. It was heartbreaking though! The three Canucks at my table all left their brocolli and I SO wanted to grab their portions! I somehow think that would be frowned upon, lol..
Jilly seems to have got away with her barking! Not a mention. A lot of people here are forgetful.

Hello. Yesterday afternoon and evening was horrible for folks on the roads with the snowfall, particularly the Interstates. Soooo many accidents. The temperature dropped and everything has frozen. Streets and sidewalks are treacherous. I am staying indoors today. I have several online events and more card work. Yep, not terribly interesting. 😎
Anne, I thought there was a dietician there who understood what you could and could not eat as well as your favorites? Where the heck is this person now? You need your veggies! Two tiny nibs of broccoli is not an adequate serving for someone who eats primary veggies. 😞
Well, I have spouted off enough for now.

Happy Sunday! We too have had snow with more to come. I am staying in and staying warm, I have enough to do this week. Will see if I can find some cute little animal toys for all the pets in my family for Christmas. I would like to be done with all of this early but time just gets away from me.
Lin, good idea to stay in today, the first snowfall is always the worst when it comes to driving.
Anne, I agree with Lin, can't you inform the chef that you are a vegetarian? I am sure they will meet your needs if they know about them. They can't feed gluten to gluten free people or dairy to dairy free people. Just ask, maybe they do not know.
Jackie, I hope you found a good movie to relax and enjoy. I recommend Think like a Dog on Netflix. Sappy and corny but oh so cute.
I am binge watching the Squid Challenge Games which is a reality show based on the Squid Games Series. That will be my day, watching TV or napping.
Have a great day,
Sandy

We are back to drizzle and grey skies so apart from a half hour walk round the block I haven’t been outside much. On our way home a couple walked towards us with a German Shepherd dog then crossed to the other side of the road, but their dog reacted with an aggressive lunge towards us. I couldn’t believe it when the man screamed in its face then punched it on the nose so I glared at him and told him it was just doing what some dogs do but wanted to add it was obvious it was picking up on the man’s aggressive personality. I decided that might not be wise!
It is milder but I was ready to light a fire by 3pm. When I had finished gardening yesterday I realised I had misplaced my favourite secateurs and so the hunt began. The problem was they are black so against the soil or in darker corners, impossible to spot. I didn’t find them but this morning I ran through in my mind the order I cut items back and remembered picking up a pile of bean vines to place on the compost when I had finished. I didn’t have to look far to uncover them and thankfully they are now safe in my greenhouse because they were an expensive brand!
Sandy, I think you are very wise to stay in if it’s snowing; Lin too!
I didn’t find a movie to watch last night but instead found someone on YouTube I sometimes follow had left an hilarious video of observations on a book being released next week about our wayward Prince Henry and his wife!
That’s a weird and wonderful teapot Lin but I can’t help thinking it’s more like a man’s pee pot! (Sorry! 🫢😯)
Anne, I agree, a quiet word in the cook’s ear about wanting more green veggies might work.
Battery down to 10% so I’d better go.
Keep warm folks.

That’s so sweet Barbie! 😁
A showery start so we got wet on our morning doggy walk. I’m now getting myself ready for one of my hospital cancer check ups. I noticed the road into the village is closed for some reason so I’ll have to give myself extra time for a detour before driving to Plymouth. Also extra time to find a parking spot because the hospital is incredibly busy. I’m already stressed at the thought!

Hello everybody. Thanks for the comments on lack of green veggies here. It was all written down by a dietician when I arrived who happens to be also head chef. When it comes to milk they do supply me with lactose free at breakfast time. I think the main problem for me is the chef/dietician is of Mary Jos culture, but whereas MJ is more British than me when it comes to diet and gardens the chef is set in her cultural ways. I was really looking forward to lunch today which was written up as quiche and veggies, but that got cancelled so what I actually got was tomato soup followed by two waffles covered in maple syrup, blueberries and cream, plus chocolate mousse for dessert. Tasty but No, the only solution seems for me to buy what I’m lacking and I do have a microwave.
Other than that found me at the nurses office, hopefully to have my dressings removed. No luck there as she plastered me up again. I jokingly said I thought Jilly Bean could cure me quicker by licking me. The pretty, petite Phillipino nurse hadn’t a clue I was joking with my “weird” British sense of humour and I got a horrified lecture on dogs mouths being full of germs and no, no, no, I mustn’t let Jilly lick me clean. I guess that’s the world’s problem. We all speak English but don’t understand the subtleties of different ethnic groups. Same with food. In World War Two, prisoners of war were fed nothing but rice I believe which the Japanese thrived on but the allied prisoners suffered greatly from. Interesting.
Yesterday I read up on vikings of which I am pretty sure I’ve got a bit in my DNA my dads and mothers sides all coming from the east coast of England and Scotland. I can trace that way back in time. It was a relief to read they were not all a blood thirsty lot running around with battle axes killing monks etc. The majority were farmers which fits the gentle men I grew up with. Also if you love carpentry and wood you probably have some Viking DNA. Mark, my youngest is a chartered accountant by trade but loves working with wood.
BARBIE that’s one neat Christmas decoration and LIN I tend to agree with Jackie about the teapot, sorry!
So having bored you all to tears I will shut up.

Happy Monday! I went to the back doctor for an injection but he postponed it a week because of my shingles even though I am fine. I still have a tiny rash so I guess he wants that gone before sticking me.
I ran some errands and wanted to buy my Christmas cards but they didn't have them all in yet, so I will wait until next week.
Tomorrow I am getting my hair done as I have a dinner Thursday and a party on Friday for my nieces husband surprise 70th birthday. Since she lives so far south I will probably spend the night as I don't like driving far at night.
Wednesday and Thursday are my two youngest sons birthdays, one will be 52 the other 51. Not really celebrating but sent them a card so they know I love them.
It is almost dinner time and another day slips away. Enjoy your evening.

Hello. A busy day here. Just normal stuff, nothing extraordinary except the reports of people in the area with Covid and some with quite severe Covid even though they have had all of the recommended shots. My friend and her husband cannot seem to get over it. Another friend called today and part of her family has Covid again and one lady is very ill. And a friend of hers died in the last few days from some type of complications of Covid. What the heck is going on.
Anne, I would like to rattle the teeth of those cooks! I want you to have nice big portions of all the veg you love.
Sandy, oh gosh, another week might be a good thing. You don’t want to do anything to stress your body as you are recovering from those dreaded shingles. Really, you couldn’t get all the Christmas cards you wanted today? It is time!
Jackie, I hope your drive to Plymouth went smoothly and that your test(s) turn out well. We need a healthy Jackie.
Now everyone, I wouldn’t purchase that teapot from yesterday but I do get a kick out of all the different things that artists create. 😂
Be safe my friends.

Good morning one and all. The sun is shining and we’re just back from a gorgeous walk across the moors. Yesterday’s trip to the hospital went well and now I anticipate parking problems I’m ready for it! There was a beautiful double rainbow over the road on my way there that I took as a positive sign and the examination didn’t show up any problems so on I go (hopefully) for another 6 months. Back in my home town I stopped for pet supplies, then drove my usual route home only to find the road in the village still closed off. They hadn’t put diversion signs from that side so I had assumed it had reopened so by then tired, I had to work my way through the neighbourhood to get round so was quite grumpy, especially as we don’t have street lighting in rural areas and I don’t enjoy driving in the dark these days.
Once I’ve finished my coffee I plan to get into the garden, plant the last of the Daffodil and Crocus bulbs and continue to deadhead the perennials.
You do all make me smile because here we are still in November but Christmas has already arrived! 🤶🏻 🦌🎄
Anne, I remember when I first moved to Canada getting some very strange looks at my British humour but at least once the friends I made got used to me they loved it and even adopted it themselves. As for tomato soup with waffles, maple syrup and blueberries, my tummy turned at that concoction! Tinned vegetables are just as healthy as fresh and frozen in the Uk because added sugar is now frowned upon so let me know if I can help with Red Cross food parcels!!
Lin, I have as much fun seeing the unattractive teapots as the pretty and characterful ones like yesterday’s Robins. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder! 😁
I don’t think Covid ever went away but probably causes more problems for vulnerable people in Winter months. I wonder why the latest vaccines aren’t working.
Sandy, you don’t want to rush things and set off the shingles again so please slow down just a bit!
Finished my mug of coffee so time to get outside.
Happy Tuesday. Stay warm, safe and bug free.
Jackie 🥰0 -
Happy Tuesday! Very cold here at 17 degrees F. I am going to get my hair done and possibly nails although I messed them up and they are all too short. Wil be staying in once I am done with these two things.
Jackie, I am actually fine from the shingles, just a tiny little pink rash that is almost gone. Once it is gone completely I will get the shingles vaccine. Most of my activities are fun things and actually help me destress. I am not as busy as you and you never slow down. lol
Lin, I do buy my cards at the dollar tree because I am cheap. lol I like to buy personalized cards like for daughter and husband and they weren't completely stocked. I ended up going to Target to buy 3 cards because the dollar tree didn't have them and paid $18 for three cards. Now you know why I shop at the dollar tree.
Anne, oh no, so sorry Michael got Covid again. It is going around, my DIL's mother is in a nursing home and she just contacted Covid. They had to wave to her on Thanksgiving from outside since they weren't allowed in.
Have a great day, time to get ready for my hair appointment.
Sandy

Hi everyone, and I hope JACKIE is home safe and sound.
It was rather an interesting lunch. I’d noticed that one or two people have swapped tables, presumably to sit with friends, but no, it’s much more complicated. One lady has moved today, and my three fellow diners tell me it’s her sixth move. Apparently she tends to say mean things about others so actually gets thrown out. I’m still with the three ladies I started off with but my own seat was occupied by someone else who decided to move away before my arrival. It’s a bit like school. You know “please Miss, can I move because me and ……..who I sit next to have fallen out”. Eh ho, I guess some old folk are really little kids grown old. I’ll continue keeping my nose clean and any comments I make just addressed to you girls or family. Lunch today was a sort of rice soup, salad and mushroom quiche with tapioca pudding for dessert. Anyway one of my fellow diners told me I’m a “nice lady” so I guess being chucked out is not imminent, cross fingers. lol.
I’ve been told anyone who is interested in singing carols should meet in the main lounge after dinner on Friday. I’ve decided to give that a miss, partly because I can’t sing, and secondly with plexiglass going up and my Michael with Corvid for the fourth time I think it’s safer at home with Jilly Bean. One can’t avoid folk in the dining room, but one can, or wear a mask, all other times".
Other than that a cold morning with the snow drifting down to make us all feel Christmassy.

Good evening. Another cold day and I have been fiddling about writing checks, making calls and trying to get prep work done. I am taking a class on Sunday and they will cover 12 different techniques over the course of the day. There is a supply list for each technique. This is taking too much prep time! One technique requires Yupo paper and alcohol ink, another card stock and we are going to tint texture paste, another one is quite vague but we need all sorts of shiny stuff (foil, gilding flakes, glitter, gold spray, etc.), 1/4” double sided tape and glue. Sounds messy. Another one calls for water color paper. Another set of supplies includes a stamp that is an outline stamp with the second layer scribble words (don’t have that). Then one is the opposite, a stamp that stamps solid areas and a white pigment ink, a brayer and an embossing folder. On and on.
Anne, stay nice and keep grabbing any veggies you can get! If singing carols is not your thing, definitely pass.
Sandy, you may be cheap with your cards but overall I wouldn’t consider you cheap at all! How do you like your hair?
Jackie, oh what an annoying situation—road construction. It is the worst! I hope your weather isn’t wild and wet. Take care!
Best wishes to everyone.
