Marie, I'm not eating vegetables only. I am eating less meat. I love Edamame (soybeans), so I could easily be vegetarian and not be worried about protein.
Just went out to get my prescriptions. Lots of people in the stores and most places are open but some are closing early. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue, but here comes the clouds for afternoon thunderstorms. We are cooking out tonight and having corn on the cob too. I saw the police setting up for the annual fireworks show. I don't think we'll go this year.
I am like Tabitha Daisy, but without the hammock! I had a nap after breakfast! Lol, but it felt good.

Getting dark outside, may have wet hamburgers!

Hey there Anne! You did it! I am still trying to figure this all out. I would love to send ecards but I can spend hours fiddling around trying this and that to no avail. When I have enough patience to give it another go, I will try again. Good for you to wrestle this problem to the ground. And as they say...emerge victorious!

I THINK what I did was copy what PHOEBE instructed, but I got stuck on the last bit. So, I copied it to my photo album, and from there sent it to the post. I'm not sure how, and I will have to have another go on the next celebration. Talking of which, has everybody else lost the members birthday list on the forum? It ends with "new member" for me. I'm like PATSY, though, I enjoy the cake but not the reminder!
We are promised a return of the heat tomorrow. Today was a lovely perfect day. Hope everybody else had a lovely day as well.

Oh dear, so sorry JERI, you know I love you! A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dear friend!
    img[460070o5705ra39i.gifimg/]
    SANDY, have a wonderful visit.
PHOEBE, maybe it's just as well that you NOT hurry back to long haul. Recovery takes some time!
LIN, I'm pleased for you that you finally have closure! It's been a very long road for you!
MARIE, I'm part of the computer problem crowd. I keep seeing pop ups on my email program with a code saying my server has disconnected. Research has gotten me .
GAYLA, so lovely to have you back!
JACKIE, how sweet of you to send the 2 graphics while you are so busy!
PATSY, what an ominous title! The art community is often aware of the future in uncanny ways.
ANNE, you reminded me I had beans today at out bbq/buffet. I was very careful and ate 1 grilled Frankfurt, baked beans and tasted 3 bites if apple pie. All very nice but I purposely ate a late breakfast so I wouldn't be too tempted at noon!
They showed Sweeney Todd after the buffet, and Mike & I left during intermission (It was a video of the Broadway play, and not particularly my type of musical! A tad macabre!
About to catch up I on my lost sleep. before I doze on the keyboard!

    Hello All,

Thank you, thank you for all the birthday wishes.

Quick note before my company comes downstairs.

My darn Facebook account was cloned yesterday for awhile. So if you got a second friend request from me, it wasn't me and definitely unfriend them and watch for anything suspicious. I tightened the security on my page too. Darn!!!

Sorry I'm tending to go AWOL at the moment but there's too much going on! I'm just home from an auction viewing and might go back tomorrow to bid on a pine bookcase plus an old coal scuttle and fireguard. I'll see how the mood takes me in the morning. After a walk with George and then catch up phone call with a friend I visited the greenhouse to water my tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers just in time to hear a loud buzz of bees and was delighted to see a swarm in the skies heading for my empty beehive! They've made themselves at home but the next couple of days could be precarious if queenie decides to move on so I've asked my neighbour to help me put what's called a queen excluder between the main hive and its entrance so that she can't get out and take her swarm with her.... just in case!

I'm reading all posts doing my best to keep up but as some of you will remember, the summer months are busy for me but I will do my utmost to check in regularly. We've had a couple of thunderstorms today which is wonderful in that my waterbutt is slowly refilling and tubs don't need my attention plus of course the onions at the allotment are getting a good soaking as are the beans, cabbages, cauliflower and sweetcorn. Oh yes, and then there are swede, turnip, parsnip, carrot and radish seeds popping up!

    Have a good Sunday.

JACKIE, I'm delighted that your bees are back! I don't know anything about bee keeping, but Mike came up with something he'd read. Seems odd, but he said he'd read somewhere that they like places that have been inhabited previously by mice. Any truth in that? I wonder why? Good luck with the bookcase!
    Happy Sunday everybody.

Nothing surprises me any more MARIE, however I have had loads of huge bees in my little garden I'm happy to say. I'm about to put the humming bird feeder out again now the rains have finally ceased. Will let you know if I spot one. Yes, I think we are killing everything off. We are just mucking around too much with nature, mercury in fish, steroids in livestock, plants altered, pesticides sprayed, you name it, and if we don't watch out it will finish us all off too. I think there might be a glimmer of hope that we are finally waking up. Annie

Anne ~ All I know is mice like to go where bees live in order to steal the wax when it comes to domestic beehives and we have something called a mouse guard that is pinned across the entrance from Autumn to Spring that has holes small enough for the bees but not mice. Perhaps Mike read about wild bees that will find any small hole to set up home whether created by a bird in the trees or mice in the ground! I'm not sure the bookcase is right for me but will probably have another look at it before the sale.... will let you know!

Marie ~ The sad thing is as we kill bugs and insects we destroy a food source for birds, one of the reasons GM crops have been banned in the UK.... for now! There again it might just be your unusually cold winter months upset the balance in which case they'll recover and be back.

Time to cook and eat my dinner before sorting the beehive out.

Hello all! We had a very nice 4th of July evening. As I mentioned we have to hide out when the fireworks start. I think, except for a short period, our MoMo wasn't too upset by the fireworks. We spent the evening watching old black and white movies. Great fun.

Oddly, we have some low ground cover plants with little blue flowers. Bees have always enjoyed these flowers. This year there are lots of bees visiting these flowers. So many that I give them a wide berth when I go near that area.. I am very nervous around bees. I generally just stay away from them. They do go home in the evening so I can water. I haven't pulled too many weeds in that area. I call that part of the garden "Beeville." As far as insects go, we seem to have plenty to share. Flies, fleas, ants, slugs, earwigs, spiders and mice! Just to name a few of our neighbors.

Good evening - a sort of busy day. After church, I went out and cut and pulled all the volunteer trees that have been growing along in the inside of my back yard fence since the people doing my mowing are not taking care of it. While I was at it, I cut back the neighbor's tree that was on top of my fence again. I cooked some quinoa, baked some more sweet potatoes and made crackers. Made an appointment for an eye exam tomorrow and then searched the house for my last exam information from a few years ago. Finally found it (after tearing the house apart)! Yeah! Paid a couple of bills, made some photocopies, and sorted out some of my dad's papers to throw away.

And the day is gone once again.

With all the discussion about insects I note two things this year----we have no fireflies here. Where did they go? And is that only happening here??? Second, we have many many more wasps and hornets this year. They are always flying around my deck and I noted yesterday at my friends' home there were again, many of these bugs flying around. My friend took out her spray and quite a number of them dropped dead onto the deck but there were still more alive and flying around us. Which is when I got in my car to leave! So Patsy---I don't have "Beeville" but I think I have "Waspville" instead. And Marie and Anne, I've heard no crickets this year either.

Jackie - I hope the bees stay!

Jeri - have a safe trip.

Sandy - I swear there is a pool no matter where you go! I hope you enjoy your visit.

Well, I need to move along.

    Hugs.

I posted my version of the bean burgers on the Plant base discussion topic. I still need to work on it to get it firm up some way to jucy for a burger But I will probable just top it off with a salad till I figure out a way to make it more firm. Anybody got any ideals how I can I know it is not clean eating but it is vegan and gluten free. and that is what I am out for right now.

Forgot to check in from Portland. Arrived safely, went to a cookout at my son's friends and had a good time. Since it is over 90 degrees we stayed in today to play some board games. Have plans during the week so will check in when I can.

    Good night

Some sweeping and vacuuming to get out of the way today. We've had pouring rain and are expecting more. I'd better keep moving or I won't stay on schedule. Hugs my friends!

One bean burger tip I've used is to mix everything up and then put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before making your patties. I bake mine on parchment paper and flip them over halfway through the cooking time. I find I use too much sweet potato puree so I add oatmeal if they are too runny.

    See ya later.

When I made the burgers this weekend with chick peas, they were too runny and I did like you LIN, added stuff to make them less so. I'll use less mashed chick peas next time I guess but they ARE tasty. HOWEVER, I had a can of Heinz original baked beans in the cupboard from way back when. Decided to use it up on my very first try last week. I drained the tomato sauce off, and they turned out perfect! Very tasty. I'm not sure if this is "clean eating" however! Your tip about putting them in the fridge for 2 hours is something I do, and also when I'm making fish cakes which I really love.

So what's for dinner/lunch today friends, for me a nice omelette with Parmesan cheese.

I'm still being plagued by the Rev Canada scammers, but mainly on the answering machine. Got caught this morning though when I thought it was Michael calling. The funny thing is, I got a letter in the mail last Friday saying the Gvt. owed ME a further $100 and I would find it deposited in my bank, which I did. Lol. Still no sign of the police on my doorstep as the scammers threatened! Lol.

Back to the ironing board, Anne.

I don't think we are missing any bugs here. Yup, heard or saw most of the ones you've mentioned. Hummingbirds too. I changed their water and they liked that. Spiders of all shapes and big sizes.. I think I saw one called a wolf spider. I don't kill unless I know it is a poisonous one.
Got a call from insurance lady at work this morning. She wants to know how I'm doing and if I am coming back to work, lol. I'd love to say no, thank you, I'm not coming back. I know my Jim is enjoying getting home every night and weekends off. I guess they want him to go back to the long trips. They are veery short handed now, can't get and keep drivers. The drivers these days go where the top money is. Our company does not realize that, or does not care.
Jim is taking today off, he is going to the chiropractor. While he is there, I want to vacuum and mop, so I should get going.
    Have a great week

I don't believe it! I've had 3 calls from the scammers and it's only mid day. All threatening me with legal action but the "God bless" ending has disappeared, now I'm told to have a "good day"!

Happy Monday! :) Another hot day in Portland (wish they had a pool) so we are going to see Jurassic Park and then to dinner. Lots of eating, don't think I will be happy when I go home, but loving it now. Their cleaning person is coming later so my son and are going to lunch to get out of his way. I forgot to mention that Barb Price contacted me and if possible we will try to meet up sometime this week. Lisa sends me pictures of Robby everyday because I already miss him.
Time to jump in the shower.

    Have a great day!
