Long, long day, spent time scouring empty storage locker (unlocked ones only) for motorized wheel chairs abandoned by former users which everyone kept telling us to look for. And we finally came across a really good one
lightweight, antiquey looking since the seat and back are canvas, the white rubber wheels huge, the double batteries are dead, and we don't know if it works.
But we brought it back with us so we could get it checked out; and guess what! I was able to walk to the dining room tonight with almost no pain!!! I told everyone to watch for a change in the weather!!! I hope it stays that way tomorrow
when I wake up! My keypad is jumping around like crazy and leaving out many letters, so I don't know what's going on, and as it's after 1:48 AM, I'm off to sleep!

Just letting you all know I'm out of business until a new part is found for the furnace. Back at the house at the moment and I'm afraid I will probably lose the geraniums I've been pampering since last October. The tv is totally dead too, but as you can see the Internet is still working.
Anne. It's really cold in here. Brrrrrrr.

Good morning friends, woke up to one of those phone calls with no one on the other end. We don't answer them but woke us up. I have a son that is ill so early phone calls always scare me.

So I thought I'm up so I started laundry and cleaned house before breakfast.

Going to visit friends for lunch today. Then sew.

    Exercise too.
    Have a happy day

Well, you would get the giggles if you could see me. I'm sat on the sofa sporting sweaters, long scarf and warmest winter anorak because the repairman should be here in the next hour and hopefully he'll fix the furnace! I couldn't connect to my sons wifi last night which leads us all to believe my gremlins are nothing to do with MFP but everything to do with a faulty iPad. So, if I want to stay on the Internet I guess I will be out buying a new one, or a laptop. If anybody owns both which do you prefer? Once the furnace is fixed (fervent praying) I'll have to call the tv repairman as it's also as cold as the furnace. One bit of good news, my very small British pension finally showed up at the bank after a 4 day delay! Things are on the improve, but now I must don my gloves because it's minus -3C here which is 26F - so why am I moaning!
    Could be worse!

Anne ~ If you are still sitting in the cold but have a newspaper, throw a couple of pages over your geraniums to act as insulation and keep the cold air off the leaves.

Cold and rainy here but that is what happens here in the winter. The good news is that we have gained over thirty minutes of sunlight since Dec.22nd! For people who suffer this light deficiency problem...when we are on the other side of the seasons of decreasing light...well yea! We are looking at feeling better and feeling more happiness. Come on spring! We are all dealing with winter and we will be out in our gardens before you know it.

Anne: I am so sorry that you have this problem with your furnace and TV. It must feel horribly upsetting to leave your beloved little home and plants even for a short time. Hopefully the repair will not take long. Will you get a new tv? I am not sure they do tv repairs like they used to do. I know that you have a wonderful family that cares for you and will see that this bump in the road will get straightened out. We are all concerned about you here on the Sneakers. Most important is to stay safe and well!

Buzz: as you mentioned, I will try to get a new profile photo and some photos of some of my work. I must warn you and the others...I tend to paint abstractions. Some are quite large and a bit hard to photograph. But I'll see if I can capture a couple of my smaller paintings. Okay I'll say it first...hummmmmm? What is that?

The heat is back hallelujah! I have to run it high to get the chill out of the walls! However, when repairman showed up I forgot about small electric heater on the floor, tripped over it and now am decorated with some lovely bruises! That said, TV also now functioning, figured out by my brainy Mark. Apparently when it was installed the cable was plugged into wrong socket. Why it worked for 3 weeks I don't know. So alls well that ends well, apart from the bruises.
Thanks for the tip JACKIE. I think all the plants will make it, and I see the geraniums are budding tiny leaves!
Tonight I shall have a lovely soak in the tub with my Christmas Crabtree and Evelyn rose scented bath oil. Bliss.
    Anne.

ANNE, I'm so happy you're back in business and warming up! It's funny about that wrong socket, but I wonder how many of us have similar problems. We have wall sockets that are probably managed by turning the lights on or off and the fixture actually turns on or off only one socket, upper or lower! On several, we have no idea what is controlled by which! Is that clear as mud?
PATSY, I can't wait to see your paintings and as far as abstractions, many of my classmates from so long ago became world famous painters producing white on white canvases and other new "schools" of art, and my DIL and sister work in the abstract as often as not! As far as seeing you, what we have been looking at is adorable, but just a fraction of your face, so come on out!
My knee is improving, so it must be arthritis in a very low barometric pressure trough, and I suspect it will continue to feel better. In the meantime, that antique wheelchair will cost well over $500 just to get it moving! The batteries are no longer made, the company that made the chair has no idea what model it was, as they now produce something called "Jazzy" and the young folk working there have no idea of their past productions, so I cannot get a manual. Needless to say, spare parts no longer exist! So we'll drag it back to another empty storage room! I called a reputable company dealing with our community, and he will check to see about reconditioned used chairs for me. Medicare will not supply one if I am able to walk about in my apartment, so I'll do some research!
I was not a happy camper when he asked my height and weight! Unfortunately, walking is almost impossible for me, a former race walker! But reading today's paper regarding people moving up in years, and what keeps them young in appearance and spirit, they all stated adaptability was so important to meeting the various stages in their lives. Instead of regretting that which is no longer with you, find joy in what exists now! I see this is true of the people living here where we are. We naturally gravitate to the smiling folk and veer from those who wear frowns! It seems to me our MFP Sneakers belong to the group that accepts life in a glowing positive manner, even as disaster appears to loom! You are terrific, dahlings!

Good day, light snow here this afternoon. I got up this morning and decided to get some errands out of the way before the roads got slippery. In order to find the fresh vegetables I wanted (yep, the refrigerator was just about bare again) I went to three grocery stores, also picked up a coffee for a treat for me, went by the post office and a stop at the credit union. Then at home, I got everything put away and cooked some carrots and a couple of other things, made salad for lunch and tried to call (for the second day this week) an attorney's office and once again no one was there. I'm taking a day or two off from looking at papers. Ha. Not difficult to at all.

Buzz, I am glad you are able to get around a bit and hope you can find an electric mobility scooter or wheel chair that is affordable and works reliably. I will try to smile more often. I think I do when I am around people.

Anne, I am glad your furnace is running again and that your son got your TV going again. Oh, and that your $$ showed up. I am sorry about your bruises and hope your iPad problems get sorted out. And go geraniums!!! Enjoy your soak in the tub.

Patsy, I tend to like paintings where I say, what's that. It's a chance to use your mind and imagination. I don't find those opportunities each day.

Chris, I agree with you, I've never enjoyed late night or early morning calls. It usually means something is wrong. I am glad that wasn't the case today.

    Sandy, are you babysitting today?

Barbie, how are you doing these days? The leg pain??

I suspect I should get up. Once again this chair is much too comfortable.

    Hugs my friends.

    Lin

  • Anne, take good care of yourself. Glad it was just a part. Your geraniums would have missed your tlc, so I'm glad they are going to survive.
I was beginning to think cold weather was becoming a destructive force, not of nature but maybe possessed by gremlins!
Lin, glad you've restocked. Smart to get it done, too. Who knows what mother nature's next trick will be? Oh yes, paperwork days ahead! I spoke with our safety director yesterday about some tax questions I have. She tells me that in this instance, I can save the large quantity of documentation onto a flash drive or an external hard drive. Then if ever audited, I'll have an important electronic detail. So now I'm wondering about other paper work. Could I scan it all and not keep the originals? Probably not. Worth checking into.
Beautiful day, sunshine too. About 60 degrees!!
    Onward we go, Phoebe

Happy Tuesday Night! :) Yes, I babysat today and although Robby took over a three hour nap he has a cold and was clingy and a tiny bit cranky. After he left I went with Bryanna to get her new phone but I didn't get the same good deal as I got, so I was frustrated. I think the manager should have told me I only had to such a date but they claim they didn't know Sprint was going to change the terms. Nothing I can do now but told Bryanna she has to pay the difference . I am off tomorrow but I am going to my nieces for hair color. My hair is too limp so I need some highlights. I get Robby Thursday, just a week of mixed up schedules.

Love Patsy's new picture, you look great!

    That is all for tonight!

Anne - Glad to hear that you're warm again.
Patsy - Love your picture. Looking forward to seeing some of your art.

I will bid everyone a good night and then a good morning. We will be leaving in the morning for the airport to fly to Utah from Atlanta for about a week with two other couples. My husband and one of the other men traveling with us, both love snow skiing. I may ski some. But truthfully, I would prefer to just relax and enjoy the scenery and friend time a bit. It's so helpful that our sons will be home to take care of the aquarium fish and our rather spoiled kitties. It makes it easier to travel knowing that our 2 cats are not alone and will be well cared for.
    Wishing everyone a blessed week,
    Marcella

Hi Patsy , love your photo and your hair is so cute. I love it.

Marcella, enjoy your trip. I guess we'll see you when you return.

Sandy, poor Robby has another cold?? Darn.

Phoebe, I have run out of Longmire episodes and am now having withdrawal. I wonder when more episodes will be available? Such a cliffhanger in the last episode. Yikes!!

Patsy, great photo, thank you for sharing it with us.
Marcella, have a wonderful trip to beautiful Utah. For me, it's only the scenery, but my cousins ski and snowboard there. Good for you having family petsitters.
Sandy, First of the year price leaps. I'm seeing lots of them. I don't know how retailers expect to make profits if everyone learns to wait until later in the year to buy. Hate that they put you on the spot. No one respects dedicated customers anymore. At&t let us go without saying anything after we had them over 30 years! Yes,Robby's cold is staying with him. Hope it doesn't last til spring, and Really hope it isn't allergies.
Lin, I hope there are more! It's the only modern day western I've enjoyed.
    Time for my nap.
    Night,
    Phoebe

Thanks Phoebe - SEPTEMBER..........a long wait! But something to look forward to---yes!

Making tea and think I'll go and do the errand I did not get to yesterday. Morning traffic should slow down soon and I see the snowplow are out.

Have a great day. And I agree that companies do not care a bit about long-term customers. It is a shame.

Good morning friends, woke up to a couple inches of new snow. It was melting yesterday. Still have a couple feet of snow on the yard. The geese are coming around again.

Sandy, boy you must be really cold in your area. We always watch Chicago weather since we were born and raised there our first 30 yrs. We watch Montana weather as our second 35 years were there. Hopefully our last year's will be here in Rathdrum Idaho.

We had a nice lunch with our friends at the senior center yesterday. The lunch was good too. We ran a few errands and home we stayed.

My day today will go like this:
    Breakfast with hubby.
    Watch the morning news show.
Do some sewing and finish some projects.
    Exercise
    Lunch with hubby.
    Bible study
Clean house ( not much to do).
    Sew
Dinner probably something with eggplant. Checking recipes in weight watchers cook book.
So that us my day, how is yours going today?

    Enjoy your day
    Chris

Recently back from an afternoon walk across the moors to our mystical Hurlers stones but even at 4pm it was freezing cold and because I was taking photos wearing fingerless gloves my hands became frozen in no time. George loves it of course because being a Tibetan breed where they live in the snowy mountains, he is in his element. Watching vast swathes of grey cloud cover the earlier blue I could tell the weather is about to change again, no doubt back to the rain..... oh well!!!

Patsy ~ Delighted to see your lovely face in full at last..... jealous of that denim shirt, something we don't seem to have in our stores these days!

Buzz ~ I'm so sorry to read you are contemplating getting around in a wheelchair but since that one you were checking out is on its last legs and you're in less pain now perhaps it won't come to it. It seems like only yesterday you were going down to the pool most days but that was probably a couple of years ago since time does fly so quickly.

Time to think about an evening meal.... what to have?

Stay warm everyone, especially Anne now the heating is back on!

Anne - Stay warm, glad your furnace is up and running and the geranium is saved! Since our dollar
is dropping so low we are seeing a lot of Americans over here again. I live in a border town so now
the tables are turned again. We were supposed to have a trip with our choir to Stratford, which I
believe you live in or near? But...since we couldn 't get a group rate because not enough ladies were
going it is changed to sometime in October. I may be in your neighborhood by then, we shall see.

Kathy sent me a new picture of Isaac, wait for it, he is standing all by himself! He has a big smile on
his face. It's on facebook if anyone wants to take a look.

My day is cleaning today and my DH decided to start taking down the wallpaper on the one wall
we are going to paint. Men.... so I will clean around him.

Patsy - A very nice picture of yourself, now we can see all of you!

Marcella - Have fun in Utah, I have never skiied there only in Vermont. We have not gotten out this
year yet, so we will have to get ourselves out there again. Have fun on the slopes, or not!

Jackie - Sounds like a lot of rain is your winter in England. Toronto's snow is getting more now than
when you were there. Last year they had more than us, and we get the Buffalo snow.

Sandy - Hair is done and I bet you feel great. Have fun at bingo tonight.

Chris - Are you finding WW ( the new one) better or the same?

Lin - those french fries made me drool. I usually don't eat them, but I guess you use no oil.

Marie - I had trouble yesterday getting on the MFP site on my tablet. I had to keep shutting it down
and starting up again. Frustrating, I thought they cut me off the program because I don't pay for it. :p

If I missed any sorry, I must get me in gear and go cleaning.

Hi SHIRLEY, sorry I gave the wrong impression but I don't live near Stratford, wish I did because I visited there often in my youth (my sixties, lol) to go to the Shakespeare plays. No, I live in rapidly expanding Oakville in the downtown area not too far from the harbour. Often have I peered at the boats in the harbour, or stared at people on the streets downtown wondering if I'll catch a glimpse of visiting you in the summertime. I believe you once thought I lived in Toronto and I said I didn't, but I don't believe I actually said where, can't remember! Mind you, not so long ago I almost moved to Guelph.
Yes, the furnace is alive and well. I can't believe how much I appreciate the warmth after yesterday's shivering! Mark, Mary Jo and Derek welcomed me with open arms to stay overnight. They were so kind. I was put in their very "posh" guest room. MJ is so good at decorating, just a beautiful room with gorgeous designer bedding etc and....... I hardly slept 2 hours. All just a bit TOO posh for me! You can imagine I slept like a log last night back in my old cottage in my scruffy old pyjamas and scruffy old bed. I actually slept for 11 hours, with the odd bathroom visit. Unheard of for me who usually gets by on 6 hours nightly!
And yes, I do believe my 3 geraniums just might survive AND the African violets.
    Alls well that ends well,
A grateful for small mercies, Annie.

The winter always brings new challenges....this time our sweet Amazing Mazzie fell going down stairs again. She cannot put her weight on her back leg. I think it is her hip! Going to see what the vet has for her. There are canine hip braces and various meds so as I said..challenges! I like the philosophy that Buzz quoted about enjoying what you have instead of lamenting with you have lost! This is a great life lesson.

Watching a cute movie with De Nero. Called The Intern. Nothing earthshaking but cute and he does a great job with humor. I will rearrange our life for the short term. I will stay upstairs with our senior citizen dogs and do my exercises upstairs. I will miss our group tv and movie watching but we have make adjustments when life demands it. All the exercise bikes etc are downstairs. I do have a ballet bar for exercises in my dungeon upstairs. (I don't do ballet, you understand). I hang on to it while I do exercises and calisthenics.

    The drama continues...

Must be a weather change coming again, from the feelings in my darn knee, plus a gout attack! This is getting embarrassing! Plus, I couldn't finish today's Sudoku in the paper, and had trouble figuring Jumble! Foggy brains?
LIN, I'm with you regarding paper work that never ends! Sometimes I feel tied to my desk!
PHOEBE, are you on the road again? 60 degrees sounds perfect! How are you feeling?
PATSY, love your picture, and you inspire me to get my hair cut short again! Poor Mazzie, I wonder if falling down stairs is as embarrassing to dogs as it is to people! Does she suffer from arthritis? I remember my poor Coco yelping each time she tried to jump up; too much pain.
SANDY dear, you are so generous with all your family! Bryanna might value her phone more by paying for some of it! I hope Robby feels better quickly, poor baby!
MARCELLA, Utah is such a magnificently beautiful state, though we've not been too far from Monument Valley. I remember an old Sonja Henie movie shot in Sun Valley, and always dreamed about going there! Tell us all about your trip when you return, but just enjoy it while in Utah!
CHRIS, sounds like your usual busy day! How's WW going?
JACKIE, dear friend, time marches on! I never thought I would get to be a cranky old lady, but it may come about one of these days, as I give up things I loved doing! However, I got a kick out of seeing a table in the lobby, with a group of ladies using coloring pencils and crayons to color sheets of paper covered with black and white drawings! They were having a ball! So who knows what will take the place of my pool days? I'd rather be seeing your ancient hurlers stones! Stay young walking your sweet George! And writing your wonderful descriptions!
ANNE, your description of MJ's "posh" guest room had me giggling! I can just imagine what you were feeling! Glad you're back in your comfortable home again!
I have been shocked by the changes ( up, up, up!) in the copays for our medications. And our Congress thought their was no inflation, huh? On that miserable thought, I think I shall retire for the night!

  • Buzz the Barometer! Fuzzy brain=barometric pressure!! You GO Weather girl! I hope you get some relief, seriously. Love you!
Lin, hope you finished your errands and made it safely back to your cozy warm home, with a good book at the ready! Someone posted a cute cartoon on Facebook, a winter scene of the ground with a light dusting of snow. The caption read 'Stay strong, Georgians, we're praying for ya' ! So true, lol. We are supposed to get some frozen precip.
A long walk with Honey today, we both get tired at about the same time. Now we are getting ready to leave here(California), and head east into Alabama.
Jim has injured his back or his hip, so it will be a bit rough for him. I had pain meds which I didn't want to take, so they are taking some of the edge off for him. We are using our new memory foam mattress and it is Amazing!! Quite the shock absorber.

    Night all
    Phoebe
