Good afternoon JACKIE, no I don't expect to become rich from the sale of granny's sewing machine! I wouldn't sell it anyway after my aunt decided I was probably the only one who wouldn't sell it and made me promise not to. This entailed carting it all over England and Canada. However, I won't elicit such a promise from my two offspring. They can do whatever they want with the old family bible, the grandfather clock and Venetian clock belonging to dad, etc. etc. All carted all over England and Canada.
Good morning SNEAKERS. Well, I was going to leave the washed drapes folded up and put away until the Fall and just rely on the blinds for privacy, because I sort of like a barer look, but my DIL phoned to say I've jinxed everybody and an ice storm is forecast for tomorrow. I've just put them all back up to combat any draughtiness.
So on that sombre note I'll love you and leave you.

    Good morning Sneakers,
Marie - I LOVE my cast iron skillets! A well seasoned cast iron skillet is a treasure. I have 3 different sizes and I use all 3 all of the time. My 8 inch gets used every morning for my breakfast egg.
    Wishing everyone a wonderful day,

Happy Tuesday!! :) We have a nice day today so I took Robby to the park for a short time while waiting for his mom to pick him up. Tomorrow we are expecting a snow storm so I might not be going to bingo. Will Spring ever get here???

Marie, sorry to hear you are suffering with a backache, I know the feeling. I think mine is from lifting Robby but Tylenol seems to help. Thanks for the cute graphic.

Anne, I wouldn't sell the sewing machine either, I hold on to sentimental things. I have things saved in my garage that if the kids want to sell they can, probably none of it is valuable.

Jackie, my problem is my mind says I am young, my body tells me different, I think it is time to listen to my body. LOL I would love to see you in the video but I do see the weight loss in your friend from when you began posting videos.

Lin, I was wrong when I told you we had the same garbage night, mine is on Tuesday and yours is on Monday. Not that it matters but I didn't want you to think I was senile. (yet)

    Have a good Tuesday night.

Hi Marie. Please use your walker. The only thing worse than a painful back, is when you fall and break something. Then you hurt in more places!
California is sunny and warm. I like it. I don't feel too good today either. I'm not dieting right now. I'm just eating less.
Sounds like you've got to season your cast iron. I keep my cast-iron in the oven. I always put it away with a light coat of vegetable oil. Then as the oven preheats, the cast iron gets more seasoning.
    Hello everyone, back to work.
    Phoebe
P.s. Lin, I sometimes get to the point that I believe the writer is actually a perverted lost soul who gets pleasure from writing about awful things. Yes, I've stopped reading several, sometimes I'm really disappointed by them. ♥

Marie - Your cast iron pan will get better with use. When you first start using it, you may need to use more oil until it's well "seasoned". I'm not sure how familiar you are with cast iron (you may already know all of this), but I pulled a little info together from Lodge's Cast Iron website. (www.lodgemfg.com)
They also have some nice videos on their web page for “Cooking” /subsection “Use and Care”.

    - To clean your pan, hand wash and dry immediately.
    - Rub with a light coat of vegetable oil after every wash to keep the iron “seasoned” and protected from moisture. (Enough oil to restore the sheen, without being “sticky”)
    - “Seasoning” creates natural, easy-release properties. The more you cook, the better it gets.
    - Some foods may stick to new cookware (especially eggs). Use a little extra oil or butter until you’ve built up the “seasoning”.
    - Acidic foods like tomatoes, beans, and certain sauces can damage “seasoning”, and should be avoided until the "seasoning" is well-established.

I actually don’t use soap to clean my cast iron pans; just hot water. Soap isn’t necessary. But, if that sounds a bit scary, wash with mild soapy water and dry and oil immediately. If a serious scouring pad/cleaning is necessary, the pan can be cleaned and re-seasoned. There is a video on their website. Basically, you oil it and bake it in the oven for awhile.
Once it's been used a bit, you will love it! Happy cooking,
    Marcella

I will look and see if I Can find some recipes. thank you Marcella and Phoebe. I did make fried okra tonight and was pretty good and it did not stick,, not exactly taste like fried okra I am used to but never the less I enjoy it. I let it threw out overnight then sprinkle some cornbread over it to coat it some.. That will be a keeper for me. Ok. I will try just hot water to clean. It..

Good evening friends – so nice to read your posts today. I played the part of jinx today and took my car for gas and the super-expensive version of the car wash. Then a quick stop by the library and home to clean the car some more. Drying, rubbing off more dirt, shining up the headlights and cleaning off the back-up cam. So now we will likely have rain and/or snow but I feel better now as the car was extremely dirty.

Did a bit of cooking today but I have no idea what I might have done to myself yesterday but I have been feeling kinda rough the last 24-hours. Too much information but intestinal problems. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Ice storm for Anne and snow for Sandy. The weatherman is not being too nice to you. Meanwhile Jackie what a lovely day you had. A walk with George, swimming, a walk on the moors! My goodness you did take advantage of the sunshine. And the henhouse cleaned out as well. What are you reading now? I picked up several books at the library today. One is a James Patterson book---“Cross Justice.” Again, a series I usually read so we’ll see how this one goes. I wonder if I’ll end up wanting to give up this series as well.

Marie, such adventures with your new cast iron skillet. My Grandmother had several cast iron skillets and she had at least one on her stovetop, never put it away. I hope you end up loving it. There’s always a break-in period. I love the graphic you posted for us. Sweet! And too am sorry your back is bothering you. I hope it feels better tomorrow. Glad your soup was good. I am thinking of making some type of soup tomorrow.

Anne, wise of you to not ask for promises from your children. Several of my friends have tried to talk to their children about dividing up heirlooms and sadly they told her they had no interest in anything and she should toss out the junk now so they didn’t have to take care of it later. Both ladies were quite disappointed in the reaction of their kids!

Marcella, your pans sound lovely. I’d never had any pans I really loved. The Revere stainless steel/copper bottom frying pans I had were okay and I used them for years but I didn’t love them. Over the last few years I have been buying a bit here and a bit there and ultimately did purchase several fry pans which I do love. They are ScanPans and I hope to keep them forever.

Sandy, nice that you were able to spend a bit of time outdoors today. I hope you do not get a snow storm but it is February and I guess it is not time for spring yet. But it would be nice to have an early spring. Whatever garbage day we have, it’s fine. Yes, I take mine out on Monday evening for Tuesday pick-up.

Phoebe, I am sorry you didn’t feel well today but am happy the weather is pleasant. Thanks for letting me know that sometimes you ditch a book. Good explanation although I also wonder if they put these horrible things into the books because they think this type of writing draws readers….and if it does, I am sorry to hear it!

    Hugs.

You all sound pretty good today, young or not-so-young! I went to our care givers group and learned that therapy sessions are part of our "benefits" of living here! Busy day again tracking down my Rx for my diuretic being cancelled for the 4th time my the Mail order Pharmacy which claims my Dr is not responding to fax re: instructions on using it! SWALLOW them, I submit, but they want it their way alone. Off to sleep before tomorrow's appointment with my cardiologist/vein insufficiency doc

Yes, listening to the radio we are in for lovely ice pellets followed by snow with cancellations all over the place. I shall stay home and do my taxes! I shall do my taxes in my brand new kitty cat socks! A lovely friend sent me two pairs on reading about them on our pyjama topic. Nothing like happy socks to cheer one up stuck indoors doing the taxes and listening to icy rain on the windows!!!! Thank you so much for making my day, lovely friend! They came in the roadside mailbox alongside the final tax papers. What a lovely sweetener for a detested job. And here they are:

Happy Wednesday sneakers! We have mild but high thin clouds. I will take that as a positive. I have a day to piddle around a do things at my own schedule. John is off with a couple of friends. They are having lunch and going to a woodworkers show. MoMo and I are being lazy and listening to our favorite music, having a strange lunch of veggies and a Fuji Apple. I bake it in the microwave, split it and dust with cinnamon and a dollop of Greek yoghurt! Pretend apple pie! Not too bad really!

Watched antique roadshow on PBS and was beside myself laughing. I am sure all my junk and collected family stuff would be real treasures to some one but who???? My kids would be making many trips to the trash with my collected treasures. It occurred to me that we all collect and treasure things that we have some connection to. That connection is often an emotional thread that is woven into our individual tastes and values. So, I will sort out a few things to jettison over the side, I will try not burden family with my sentimental clap-trap. No guilt or hard feelings! Truthfully there are things I have kept but I am not sure why.

And I got the taxes done. The government owe me and I was dying to mail the paperwork off because the government take about 8 weeks to send one a refund and the dollars will go towards my new armchair which should arrive in 4 weeks. So I ventured out to test the waters and immediately ventured back inside because the waters turned out to be a coating of ice! Not even the thought of a government refund will tempt me to risk a broken hip!

Happy Wednesday!! :) We didn't get a lot of snow, it is to the South of me. I still decided not to go to bingo, this cough is just wearing me out and when I talk it makes me cough more. Babe brought me some Sudafed Pe and some Mucinex Sinus-Max that his lung doctor told him to take for his cough. It has been too long and if not better by the time I am done with the pills the doctor gave me to suppress my cough I will go back. I am just so irritated that I was fine before the flu and pneumonia shot.

I think Anne's friend Jackie in England sent her the socks? Am I correct? If not her then it was Phoebe or Lin. I am just too nosy for my own good. Cute socks though, glad they made you happy. I like money if anyone wants to send me any. LOL

    Have a good evening.

    Congratulations on the refund,Anne.
Sandy, The med my dr.told me to get was extra strength mucinex DM. I knew it was too strong so I'm taking a generic one that is 400 mg and 20 mg of the cough medicine. Still makes my mouth dry like cotton but it helps the cough. Feel better soon.
Patsy, I've just about made the decision to give give away a lot of things not used. Collected lots of hobby type things but didn't finish them. Sometimes I never started!
    Take care

    Not me either re: socks.

In fact, I would not be able to contact most of you by email or snail mail as I have only a couple of addresses.

So sorry Phoebe and Sandy are still fighting coughs. I really wish you were feeling better.

And like Phoebe, I have lots of craft items and in fact some old fabric (in a tote in the basement from quilt projects never started). And I still have quilt blocks and pieces for more quilt blocks upstairs where I might pick them up again. Not ready to give them up yet.

Patsy, I have a strange lunch everyday I do believe. Today I did dither around a bit as I tried to find what I wanted to throw in the IP. Did end up with some okay vegetable soup. Have some leftover for the next couple of days. But not bucket loads. Haaa.

Anne, be cautious with the bad weather (as I know you will). Is the snow over now?

Marie, did you send the socks? Hope you've had a good day. Did you make soup today too?

Buzz, a lady I know was unable to walk due in part to the fluid that had built-up in her legs. They have started wrapping her legs daily and she lost 20 lbs. of fluid and is able to put her shoes on again. Have you ever heard of anything like that? I know you study medical treatments and seem to be in the know on these things.

Well, I finished the Alex Cross book. On to the next one. I don't know if I'll like it--"Slay Bells: A St. Rose Quilting Bee Mystery" by Annette Mahon.

I hope to connect to a Dr. McDougall webinar tomorrow afternoon and am considering going to a meeting tomorrow evening. Skip the next paragraph is you have no interest where I'm going.

The Plant Pure Nation people encourage folks to start what they call local 'pods.' I signed up to be notified if someone was starting one in this area. Got an email to announce the first meeting tomorrow evening. Have you watched PlantPure Nation? It's on Netflix now. I paid to watch it on Amazon a while ago. I have great respect for the Campbell family (T. Colin Campbell, Nelson Campbell, Thomas Campbell). T. Colin Campbell and his son Thomas wrote the book "The China Study" which is a powerful argument for eating a plant-based diet.

Not being a missionary here but I think I would be very interested in this meeting so I'm seriously considering it.

    Wishing everyone well. Hugs.

Today's frum was pretty funny, focusing on darling socks on shapely feet! Your mystery friend was kind indeed! Now who is a kitty fiend?
It's really late again, so I'll just answer LIN's question. Yes, indeed, I know about wrappings! I lost 16 pounds of liquid last time I used the lymphedema treatment. to which I may be returning. Today, my cardiologist added Cardura to my list of medications, as my BP was over 160. He'll do an ultrasound of both legs next Monday to see why they fill up so much!
Our friend had a heart valve replacement
today, with only a tiny incision in the groin! No more cracked ribs! Amazing. By the way, let us know about your webinar!
I sure hope SANDY and PHOEBE get rid of their coughs, etc. And MARIE, some sexy nightwear you use! PATSY, getting rid of the surplus today will make tomorrow easier...less complicated! Now O lay me down to...ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! o:)

Ah, sweet mystery of life, at last we've found you..........in the form of socks, who'd have thought!
I'll add one thing to add to the confusion I've created, lots of people take a peek in this site without posting, including my lot if I want them to see the videos etc. So like the English sausage, which we once called "a bag of mystery" because no one knew what was in it, thus shall it remain so.
Now what to do today which also promises to be a mystery as far as the weather is concerned. We are at that horrible stage of rain, ice, snow.
Anne, the new Agatha Christie of "whodunnit" LOL. ❤️

Off to forge for more leaf lettuce. I have run out again. If I had a larger refrigerator I could purchase more at a time but would run the risk of buying so much things would go bad.

I can live with mystery Anne.

Hey, attaching a couple of pix I ran across. From my RenFest obsessed time of life.

    Lin - LOVE the pictures!!!
Today will be fun. The "milk man's" wife had their 3rd baby the beginning of this week. So he will not be making milk deliveries for the entire week so that he can have bonding time with the baby. I love this! It also means that, to get my milk and eggs today, I will have to drive out to the farm and pick them up from the farm store. It will take about 45 minutes to an hour to get there. It is a beautiful area that seems far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life. Should make for a nice outing today.
    Have a wonderful day everyone,
    Marcella
