Just for fun, here's yours truly at the age of 40 in the part of Aladdin in an English pantomime production. I'm "trying" to sing "Aladdin is my name" to the tune of Gilbert and Sullivan's "a minstrel boy"

Sorry! It came out HUGE!0

We are heading home today. Darn. We've had lots of fun but it is back to the real world.
I took this yesterday at the Botanical Gardens in Naples. Very nice place to visit. We had a fabulous day at Sanibel Island as well.
But ... We'll be home by about 10 pm.
Cheers
Jeri0 -
Jeri - sorry you have to leave that paradise. What a vacation! Love that photo (of course).
Anne - my goodness!! Look at you. Amazing lady with some pretty great legs! Did you often act and/or sing?? Since you listed an age associated with your photo I had to hunt. I literally ran to a professional photographer to get a photo taken before I was to have a surgery to remove my thyroid (have my throat slit as I called it). It was a Christmas gift for my parents. I was 50.
The kitchen is in full swing. Chopping up a big salad for lunch and will have a bowl of soup with it. I even found my special gloves so I won't slice a finger again.
Hugs.
Lin0 -
Lin - What a babe! Lovely picture and I thought you were in your twenties. You looked great for 50!
Anne - Long legs and I didn't know you acted. Great picture.
Well we arrived here in the Bahamas on Tuesday. We had to get up at 4am for the airport but a smooth
flight and uneventful. Our accommodations looked lovely until you got closer and found the place
was kind of dirty. We have been cleaning a bit the last couple of days but now we are good. I guess the couple that we rented from aren't much for cleaning. We went
to Green Turtle Cay by Ferry yesterday and met friends there from our sailing club and there were about 10 of us and had a great time. We have a group picture which will go into the Main Sheet Newsletter.
We have had no Wi Fi for a couple of days so I lost my days but now its on and we shall see for how long. We have had some great food and drinks so far. It rained last night but the sun is out but very
windy. We took a walk around the place here at Abaco Cay and checked out the local haunts, gift store,
post office, market, and such. I have already bought a t shirt for Isaac, its so cute.
So I read all your posts and caught up so far. Tonight is dinner at a pizza place and I have had Kalik
beer with lemon and one with grapefruit so good and its refreshing.
More to come.

Happy for SHIRLEY for her Bahama stay, and sorry we are losing JERI, but her photos are as usual gorgeous! ANNE, wow, what a great picture, and I must be missing one of LIN, since Shirley mentions how lovely she looked, as well! I think you all still look fantastic, so I will go shower and be ready for our dinner at 5! I'm almost always the last one in!
Thanks LIN, for your support as always!
Buzz0 -
Happy Thursday!! All I can say is that I like men but Anne and Lin, you are both HOT!!!
Lin, except for the haircut and being thinner today, you look exactly the same, beautiful. I can't believe you were 50 in those pictures, you have excellent genes. Anne, those GAMS, amazing, also very beautiful and again can't believe you were 50. Thanks for sharing.
Buzz, go back one page to see Lin, you will be just as impressed as I.
Shirley, I am amazed you have Wifi in the Bahama's, do you have to pay for it?? I love the Bahama's so needless to say I am jealous!!
Lin, am I nosy in asking why you had your thyroid removed? And another nosy question, were you married when those pictures were taken? Your husband was a fool to leave you unless you left him for your own reasons. Please feel free to tell me you would rather not answer if I am being too intrusive.
Jeri, leaving sunny Florida to go back to winter in Canada, sorry. Thanks for sharing all the photos they are of course beautiful as usual.
Marcella, how impressive that you have a milkman, I didn't think that was done anymore.
We had milk delivered when I was a kid, but that stopped before I left home.
Anne, how wrong you are, you honestly looked that good and still look that good. As long as you enjoy your socks we can handle the mystery.
Hope everyone else is well, have a good evening.
Sandy

I am going to change clothes and go to that meeting tonight.
Sandy, the entire thyroid had to come out as the needle biopsy could not determine if the lumps were cancerous and I had radiation to my head as a child. They decided it was best to remove it. On the other topic, as people say, it was a difficult situation and we split, got together, split again. I was weakening to try again but he suddenly wanted an immediate divorce. And yes, I was divorced at that point. My 25 and out was over at age 46. And yep, I was always a lot larger. This was about as small as I ever was in my adult life (until the last few years). By the way, I heard roads in the Chicago area were bad this morning. You ok?
Marcella, I hope you had a very nice trip today.
Shirley, nice to hear from you. Sorry the place you are staying required cleaning!
See ya!
Lin

Thank you for explaining Lin and I apologize if I brought up bad memories. I think you looked great in those pictures not at all over weight. I haven't left the house since Sunday but we didn't get as much snow as predicted. Most of it was in Indiana. Enjoy the meeting.

Hello sneakers! What fun! The photos were fabulous ladies! The ones Lin and showed us were so amazing. The funny thing is that you both tell us these were from long ago...really? You both have kept your youthful beauty. Jeri, you made me want to go to Florida, I want to smell those flowers, I want to watch those sunsets. You made me realize how appealing Florida is. Your photos have a real emotional content.
Lin, John and I were high school sweethearts.. We married right out of high school and went away to college as a young married couple. I really believe that has been the secret of our 50+ years together. We were so busy in college we didn't time to fuss or disagree about much. I don't recommend it for everyone but it worked for us. To this day we are always involved in a creative project. John mats and frames every one of my paintings for the gallery shows. I proof read his doctoral, and masters dissertation as well as all the professional articles. I guess we have always worked and played together. But I am in charge of laundry and kitchen cleanup.
Patsy0 -
Oh Lin you at 50 is so lovely I love the one with you smiling.
And Anne what a performer we have in the group. you both are just too cute
Tanks you both for sharing. Anne You have a marvelous sense of humor.
I get such a kick out of you girls.
And Marcella running out to the farm to pick up her milk and eggs its been many years since I have had raw milk, Yes We used to have milk deliver also bread and goodies, have forgotten what company had bakery stuff decliner but sure was good. on the top of the milk there was cream my momma pour the cream off for there coffee. Things sure has change hasn't it.?
Marie0 -
Oh my, MARIE, things certainly have changed, in every way! And way back then, none of us could have met as there was no internet, and even telephones were costly and mostly local!
I'm here at this ungodly hour because as I got up for my nightly "pit stop", it struck me that I had not checked in today, so in horror I rushed to my laptop and logged in! So glad I did (yes, I had checked in earlier) or I might have missed LIN's post and marveled at our Renaissance beauty! We really do have glamour gals here on our Golden Sneakers! Thank you, SANDY, for cluing me in! PATSY, you and LIN shared part of your lives with us today, and how delightful your history is. May I ask what John's area of expertise is, with all those degrees? As much as I feel sympathy for LIN's situation years ago, I also know sometimes that break is for the best! Independence can be both difficult and sweet! MARCELLA, you certainly brought back memories! I remember how the cream on top of the milk bottles would freeze right over the top in very cold weather! Now our milk comes in cardboard or plastic containers, so when we breakfast at First Watch, I always want to take one of their milk bottle water servers home!
Well, I guess I can go back to sleep now that I have visited you all, ad I think I cab safely feel I am the first one to wish you all a Happy
Buzz0 -
Good morning everyone especially Buzz for getting up in the middle of the night to post that gorgeous kitties graphic. A cold one here with an icy wind but I did manage to walk quite a long way on the moor with my friend and her dog and we returned to the cars just before spots of rain began to hit us. Not much planned today other than housework and a visit to the same friend's house to take a look at her new sofas and re-jigging of the room. Love all the photos and before I forget Lin the novel I've just started is How I Lost You, the author being Jenny Blackhurst. It's about a mother who served time in a psychiatric institute having been found guilty of murdering her baby when suffering post natal depression but she has no memory of the incident and now people and events are putting doubts in her mind it ever happened. It does sound bleak but written in first person perspective is down to earth and tense, the sort of novel I enjoy.
Marie ~ Only yesterday I was chatting to friends about how much has changed in the past 20 years because we used to be able to drop in at local farms for milk, cream and butter but so many rules and regulations have taken over we now have to put up with sterilised supermarket produce that don't taste nearly as good, in fact don't taste full stop!! I'm not sure we're any better off for the changes!
Marcella ~ Lucky you to still have fresh farm produce available and I'm sure it's worth the drive to stock up.
Patsy ~ You and John are definitely soul mates and I love that you support each other in so many ways which is obviously the secret of such a successful marriage. The stories you've told us of your life together over the time you've been on the Sneakers have always given me a warm feeling and now I know why!
Shirley ~ It doesn't seem fair that you had to knuckle down to housework when you arrived at your rented accommodation but I hope once the property was to your liking you poured a glass of wine and took in the scenery. Even with the bad start I'm jealous and would love to be sunning it in the Bahamas rather than looking out at rain and cold winds! Have a lovely holiday.
Lin ~ When I saw your photos I was thinking how you would have fitted right in to that period of renaissance and would no doubt have had all the Lords and knights fighting over you!!
Anne ~ I'm not sure pantomimes are understood or seen in the States so there could be some explaining to do but I bet a production of Aladdin was a hoot!
Sandy ~ Are you still housebound? With that cough hanging on it's very wise to stay out of the cold air but let's hope you don't have to wait too long for some Spring weather!
Time to get on with the usual housework and tidy so I'll wish you all a happy Friday and hope you do better than me if you get on the scales this morning!
Jackie0 -
SHOOT! my post just flew off the page as I was about to sign off after writing the most glowing magnificent sentence you've ever read!!! Actually I was mentioning I cannot keep my eyes open today, and after dragging through the morning, finishing a breakfast of cold cereal with blueberries and a fresh peach, I've decided to simply have a rare (for me) nap so I can get through the rest of the day in a non-zombie state! Of course I had to 1st check in to make certain everyone is well, and enjoyed JACKIE's Friday post , learning more than I ever can on my own!!! So off to a delicious nap-time...

Busy Sneakers this week. Can't post a long one. We are not going home this week. Just going back to California. Then we'll be home for a few days.
Love All of the photos!!
Jeri, remember this time next year, and book for a month instead!
Shirley, a month or more in the Bahamas, sounds good doesn't it? I'm spending your retirement!
Time for a nap.
Phoebe0 -
So everybody taking a nap maybe i should too. Been a long time since I had one in the afternoon.
Phoebe you are fixing the girls up good. I bet they would like that too.
Had my soup and oyster crackers. Wow oh wow those oyster crackers was so good with my bean and potato soup/ I just hope they don't get my gluten riled up. Or my blood sugar out of quake. I had 2 low blood sugar during the night so I am leaving my daytime insulin off so far it is staying in range without the insulin. I have been waiting on this day. I will take my Lantus tonight tho but lower the doze. I started out on 20 units and got it down to 16 units now . so tonight will take it down to 14 units. For I don't like these night time lows. But it just prove this plant diet is what I needed. My doctor is leaving it up to me to adjust my doses. See how 14 will work out.for me.
Marie
0 -
Marie, how did you have Two low blood sugars?
That's scary. Jim's is still all over the place. In range then too high. Aggravating!
Bye, Phoebe0 -
Happy Friday!! Glad the weekend is here but I still have to get up early tomorrow. Me, Lisa and Robby are going to get our hair done and since Lisa wants to go before Robby's nap we are going to my niece's at 9 am. I will be able to sleep an hour later but I can always take a nap when I get home if I am tired. Babe is hoping to feel good enough to go to Mass and dinner tomorrow so I hope he does because a nice dinner sounds great and I would love to see Daisy after the dinner.
Phoebe, I think you misunderstood Marie, I think she meant that she had too low blood sugar during the night, but I might be wrong. Sorry about Jim, has he been on insulin for long??
Marie, I agree with Lin, be careful with those crackers if they are not gluten free. You are doing so well I would hate to read you have tummy problems. Everything else sounds like it is working just be careful with an insulin reaction. I only say that because I remember my dad having them when I was young and it really scared me. My mother had to force him to drink orange juice and he wasn't always cooperative.
Buzz, I hope you got your nap in, I really have a hard time napping. Robby sleeps for over two hours but I just rest on the couch, probably from the coffee I drink in the morning to wake up.
Jackie, I am only housebound by choice. I just don't want to go anywhere after Robby leaves, I just want some time to myself. I usually go to bingo on Wednesday but because of weather I didn't this week. I didn't do any bike riding this week thus the gain, but this cough is just wearing me out so I took a break.
Patsy, my son and his wife are also high school sweethearts and have been married for 31 years. My daughter and her husband are college sweethearts and married almost 30 years.
It certainly is working for them, maybe because they were friends first.
Lin, hope all is well with you today.
Have a great day.
Sandy
One Day at a Time0 -
Hello gang! Big weekend here on the coast. This is the famous "Fisher Poet Festival." Fishers and their family come and there are songs, poetry readings, marine photography and art shows. Lots of beer drinking and dancing as well. We will go to some of the poetry readings and cruise the art and photography. In the past the local Marine museum has featured knots and carvings done by sailors from long ago. John will have to tour some of the boats as well. In truth, climbing on and off the boats is a bit dicey for me. They usually only have ladders on the side of the boats, sometimes there are only rope ladders! I am clumsy and my knee starts to bend and give way in odd ways and directions. So i am not doing boat tours! No matter what! Perfect weather for this...cloudy, rainy but mild temps. Oh I know I am somewhat scandalous, but there is bar here that features naughty limericks and sea chants as well as horrible fried fish. I would love to go. John says he wouldn't go or take me there for all the fish in the sea. We have some musician friends that play there and they will give us a review of the less profane ditties. Ohh, I am so bad!

Good evening – finally got a haircut today but am afraid I will be taking my scissors to it. He got creative today and cut my bangs at an angle. On one side of my face they are well above the eyebrow and then angle downward to that on the other side of my face they are not really trimmed at all! They are down to the point they are blocking my vision. I don’t think I can stand this so will be hacking at them bit by bit.
I cooked a little bit and ate my lunch while listening to a webinar on agricultural issues, planting intentions, pricing, etc.
I spent most of the day doing some research and making phone calls. I found out a number of things but didn’t accomplish a lot if that makes sense. I found Tai Chi classes that I would like to attend but I would need a trip to the doctor for a singed medical clearance in order to attend. So I’ve printed out the form and will try to remember to have my doctor sign it in June.
Have a library card in the works at another library in a nearby suburb. They have more adult programs available than my own library and it is a short drive so I will be checking it out soon. I’ve printed a calendar for March. Also discovered programs with the main library but will not travel to programs at branches in neighborhoods where I do not feel safe so that pretty much eliminated most of the things I was interested in!
I also found a club to join but I am not sure of my interest level given the dues they require. We’ll see, they have all sorts of activities such as bowling, Mahjong, luncheons and more. Also hunted for a hiking/walking group but didn’t find anything at this point worth pursuing. Lots of reading and following links, sometimes in circles it seems.
There is something called DIY weekend going on at our historic shopping area. I’ve signed up for a short jewelry making class tomorrow and hope to also stop by a card-making event. So that is what I’ll do tomorrow. There are many businesses participating so will look around as they also have many demonstrations planned as well. The weather if forecast to be warmer and windy and I guess a lot of people will attend. I did pass on going to a craft show with a friend tomorrow. There is nothing I need and would rather stay away from those spending opportunities.
Registered for a weaving class in March. Also found a place where they have adult pickle ball three times a week. Has anyone ever tried that? I am sort of interested in that. Also would like to see the Maggie Smith movie “Lady in the Van.” A friend saw it today and loved it.
I did *not* have a nap today though.
Patsy, enjoy the festival. Sorry you’re unable to see/hear the limericks first hand. That would be an interesting experience. Good to stay off the boats! Thanks for sharing your story--you and John sound quite perfect for each other.
Sandy, enjoy your trip to get your hair done tomorrow. I think I saw pictures of Daisy on Facebook. Enjoy your weekend (as much as you can with that tiring cough).
Phoebe, safe travels. You are in California so much. It is your second home!
Marie, with strict adherence to your starch solution diet, you will apparently need to keep dialing back the amount of insulin you take. Dr. McDougall says this can happen quite rapidly. I do not know since that has never been my situation but that is what he says happens routinely.
Jackie, happy housework day? All I accomplished in that regard was more washing of tiny loads (you know the things that just don’t fit together with the main washing), and some toilet cleaning. Sorry, TMI.
Buzz, you really were up early this morning. What cool cats!! I hope you got some rest today.
Anne, I am glad you got your shopping done today. Did you move everything out of Cinders way once again?
I hope Shirley and Jeri are well today. Marcella, did I miss your post?
Once again a long rambling post that I doubt anyone will really want to read. But there you go, read, skip, your choice! Have a good weekend my friends.
Hugs.
Lin

Lin. Boy you are joining some fun classes. Enjoy.
Chris0 -
Good to hear from you, Chris! Any bites on your house?
Lin, pickle ball is played in our community. I think I would love it too. Your not rambling!
Night all
Phoebe0 -
Pickle ball?? The mind boggles!!
Back later.
Jackie0 -
Agree, what IS pickle ball? All I can think of is a giant jar of large pickled onions being thrown around, something like marbles, or log tossing in Scotland?
You don't ramble LIN. I learn all sorts of interesting stuff from you, activities, books, sites etc. AND hopefully pickle ball?
Yes, I picked up all the plants and put all the plants down again after Cinders departed. This is getting to be my weekly exercise routine. I must say I'm getting my share of protein these days as well. She associates my house with roast chicken and hangs around the oven until her bowl is filled. This is all done in Sandys absence. Sandy thinks dogs should only have dry dog food. Mike and I think people buy dry dog food for convenience these days, because none of our past dogs had dry dog food and all survived to great ages. Anyway, Sandy is delightful but tends to be a bit controlling so Cinders gets her chicken in secret most of the time and consequently can't get through my back door fast enough. Definitely her favourite "away from home" person.
And after a super day yesterday dog walking etc I must away and do some housework before Mark and Mary Jo show up. They usually do sometime over the weekend and usually when I least expect them.

Here is the day we arrived at the beach. We have to walk to the beach, so far it has been cool.
Today is Saturday and we are going bike riding today and dinner tonight at Touch of Class
restaurant.
Shirley0 -
Lin - Fraser's mom, Christine, played pickle ball at Hilton Head, South Carolina. She did injure herself
so please be careful. It is an aerobic exercise.

Wow, thanks PHOEBE. I live and learn as always. Anne.0

Happy Saturday!! We got our hair done, I went grocery shopping and will be going to Mass and dinner later. I am tired and might try to grab 40 winks unless I get hung up on my games.
My friend from bingo plays pickleball and loves it. I think it is a little like racquetball but really not sure. Shirley, are you trying to make me jealous with the ocean in your background?? Great picture, have a wonderful time. Anne Daisy cannot have any type of table food because of her sensitive stomach. I know all dogs love chicken and we even gave our other sheepdogs steak for their birthdays, but in today's world the vets prefer dog food, I think mostly because of obesity. But that's what grannies are for, to spoil our grandchildren even if furry. Lin I think it is wonderful that you are joining all those classes, a busy mind is much better than an idle mind and who knows you can make some new friends. Patsy I will have to ask my son about Fisher Poet Festival and see if they have ever been there. He and his wife are into geocaching so they are out and about all the time. Jackie
You and Anne confuse us with some of your English traits so we baffled you with pickleball.
Have a great Saturday.
Sandy

Pickleball is a lightweight version of tennis. Plastic ball, not such a hard swing, I think.0
