Hello and good afternoon. I have paid all the bills I could with the remainder of my funds for the month and don’t want to transfer anything since there’s only a bit over a week left in September. I also have been washing and cutting up vegetables, sweet potatoes are roasting and will cook some mixed vegetables later. I have also been doing a bit more straightening of my art and craft supplies. An apparently never ending job. Also sorting to decide what to take to the consignment shop next week.

    Interesting posts by everyone.

Patsy, I am so glad you were able to have a conversation with your brother. Hugs. Even if you are unable to help at least you heard his voice. ❤️

Sandy, I would imagine you will come home quite tired after all your work today.

Jackie, oh my, Betty was a good girl but George was quit naughty! Bad boy... My what a lot you accomplished and again lucky lady chicks to have landed in your home. You treat them so well. I am also glad the automatic door is now functioning properly. Wahoo.

Anne, is everything calm around your home now? No odd ringing doorbells? I hope you feel safe with your guard dog on duty.

Buzz, oh my, sardines. I have never so much as tasted one. Even as a carnivore!! My parents didn’t eat them so they were never in my house. I married into a no sardines family as well. 🙃 I hope you enjoyed them.

I don’t understand payments to an ex-spouse. Women I know have been awarded child support. No one received alimony. I know I received not a penny. At the library ladies get together last week, one woman was talking about a payout from her ex-husband’s retirement account as part of her divorce settlement finally came to her last week. I was shocked. She was divorced years and years ago. In fact she got married again last year. Oh well. I really do not understand how different things turn out for different people. Certainly does not seem equitable.

Back to my tasks. There are always many more of those than I care to tackle.

    Hugs.

I didn't get any alimony either LIN. That's what's so annoying, both Mike and I got the worst of the system.
    However, it's only money. 💰💰💰💰

Something strange happened on Jillos walk. A young Thailand woman, all of 32, came out of her house to ask if I'd be her friend. I often chat to her little boy and girl who are part French. Sure, says I somewhat taken aback but - you do realize I'm almost 84 say I. She seemed surprised by this because she said I looked younger than her parents who are 70. They worry all the time she said, whilst I always look so happy. What was my secret. I just said there wasn't much point in worrying after all there's not much we can change. We then had a long discussion on happiness. My own conclusion is some of us are born with a worrying disposition whilst others have a more optimistic nature. Anyway she asked if we could have tea together and I told her she was a very pretty girl which she is and which delighted her no end. ☕️☕️☕️☕️

Conclusion, I said some time back I'm becoming the streets pet granny, however, I think the Bean is also a big help in the making friends department, lol. 🐶

With the earlier liberal canvassers departure, a conservative canvasser turned up. I told her I'd maybe vote NDP. I'm having a great deal of fun with this as the poor canvassers tick me off on their notebooks as a "don't know". ✏️📕✏️📗✏️📘

It's turning out to be a very interesting Saturday. Flo phoned. The hospital had taken her cigarettes away, but on her return home, her daughter had bought her cigarettes again. However, the family doctor after a huge reprimand for both Flo and daughter said Flo won't be with us next year if she doesn't immediately stop smoking like a chimney stack. Conclusion, Flo's now covered in nicotine patches and the daughters flown off to Grenada for a week to recover from the telling off.🙃

Meanwhile, poor Maria next door dropped a whole new bottle of olive oil all over the kitchen floor. It's Taking her forever to clean it all up. She says she keeps dropping things and blames it on lack of sleep and the nocturnal Tony.🛏🛏🛏

It's only 2:30. Wonder what the rest of the day will bring !!!!!!!!!!! 🤓

Anne, the somewhat bemused one. 🤔

Back from the assembly and everything went great. Joe is going with me to church and then we will stop and eat something, it is my turn to buy.
When I divorced my first husband I only got child support even though I should have gotten half of everything we owned. He tricked me and said he would get custody of the kids if I didn't agree to his terms. I was young and naive.
As far as Babe giving me support money it is because I agreed at the time not to divorce him because I would have gotten more than half of his finances. Because we really didn't want a divorce he agreed to give me maintenance money since I stopped working when we got married. It is equivalent to his social security and pension which will go to me if he dies before me. It is the only thing the kids can't have as it only goes to a spouse.
Thank goodness he gives me money because I have no degree and wouldn't be able to live alone which I love.

    Just an FYI

Thanks SANDY; your explanation is very helpful so we won't be worried about Phil somehow depriving you just in case! He's a conniving son of a
    !
I sat down tonight and started to read the posts and that's the last thing I recall. I did dream and woke up thinking my Dad and Mike were taking care of me! Whoops!! Guess I missed my midnight bedtime!
I do agree with ANNE's young neighbor, and must add I think you all have a young attitude and appearance and I do not visualize any of you as "seniors"!
JACKIE thanks for the suggestion. My vision was a constantly changing gallery of portraits as our kids graduate and win our scholarships and are then replaced by fresh new youngsters. Our head administrator just informed us "with mixed emotions" (?) that our director of culinary is no longer with us. She had done a fabulous job of bringing that department to excellent standards (non-institutional) and went on vacation and had a bad accident and our questions have been answered evasively.
Hope I'm not writing gibberish again, so I think I'll say goodnight, dear friends.

The rain has arrived and during the night we had a couple of torrential downpours. Since I've been up I've been following the rugby world cup in Japan but had to take the pooches for their morning constitutional so seeing the rain had stopped took off round the village. Not a soul about as I listened to the church bells ringing out but halfway a bit of drizzle quickly turned into a monsoon so we were soon walking through running water. Finally home again I've checked the hens are alright, rubbed down the dogs with fluffy towels I found in my dad's airing cupboard then peeled off my soaked socks and jeggings. A hot mug of coffee and back to the rugby!

Sorry Buzz, I didn't appreciate how you wanted those photos displayed... far beyond my technical knowledge! 🙄 You never write gibberish, just the occasional line of zzzzzz's!

Anne, how lovely to have a new friend and someone I'm sure will be interesting to get to know with her different ethnic background. It is attitude to life that keeps us young at heart, or not! A friend just a couple of years older than me sees something negative in every situation and I'm exhausted at times listening, as much as I do my best to encourage. It's what I love about our group, the support and understanding if one does have a down day and that's rare.

Sandy, your experience with your first ex almost mirrors what happened to another friend but her husband got custody of their 3 young children with a promise to allow her weekly access. He then quickly remarried and took the children to Canada and because she was barely 21 while he was 12 years older, there was no chance to see them. That was 40 years ago and things were so different back then but she is thank goodness now back in touch with the 2 youngest.

Oooh, England about to play Tonga in the world cup so feet up and try not to get too wound up! Good morning Lin and Patsy... A busy day for you both.

And England won JACKIE against little Tonga. Onward.🏈🏈🏈
I haven't seen Janice for some time and the last time I saw her she was talking of moving miles away to join her daughter. However, when she moved from BC to her daughters a few years ago it hadn't worked out then. You mentioned the friend who is so down it's exhausting to listen? Well that describes J. She was so negative about everything it was almost hilarious to listen and wonder what the next problem would be. Only 70 when I last saw her after little Amy died. I'm pretty sure she's gone. She did three moves in the short time she was here.
After yesterday's interesting day I bet today will be rather blah which is okay because I have letters to write. I don't expect Michael to pop by, he was out partying at a friend's house last night, actually all the men he works with.
It's going to be a hot day in the mid 80s. 73 F right now. I believe it's the last day of summer?
    Enjoy the day of rest,
    Anne.🙃

Cold and wet here today. There were noisy storms overnight but I slept through a lot of it. The sump pump is merrily chugging along. Thank you. So relieved to hear it working. 🙃🙃

Church day today and then the library is hosting a wonderful musician this afternoon. I have gone to see him three times over the last years as he travels through the country doing appearances and selling CDs at libraries. Seems like a tough life to me. He is very good but I don’t know if I will go. We will see.

My friend who has developed dementia is very negative and she plays her same conversation records over and over. My dad did the same thing. It is very tiring and trying to divert to a new topic is usually unsuccessful. I haven’t found a way to just let someone chatter the same gloom while just nodding and reflecting the darkness away. If someone has found that secret, please share. ❤️

Okay, must move it. Church bells are ringing (in my head at least). 🔔🔔

    Hugs.

Happy Sunday! :) I am staying in and doing nothing today!!! I slept 9 hours to catch up on sleep and feel good today. I have a busy week so just being lazy today other than a video call with my kids and oh yes, riding my bike. We are also expecting thunderstorms but right now the sun is shining.

Lin, I really had to detach from a friend who was nothing but negative and lived in the past. Your friend with dementia probably can't help herself most do live in the past. Just nod and agree and keep her as happy as you can, it is a horrible disease.

Anne, your new friend sounds lonely so she has picked the right person to make her smile. I love your sense of humor and I agree that worry only brings frustration. There is nothing we can do to change anything so why worry about something that might not happen. As a matter of fact I am speaking at my meeting Thursday and I plan on talking about fear after my experience in the hospital.

Jackie, I am glad your friend has contact with her children once again. My children were worth more than any kind of money but now that I know better I should have fought him tooth and nail. Things happen for a reason so where I am now in my life is where I was meant to be.

Buzz, sorry about the director of culinary, it sounds serious. I feel the same way as you as far as our wonderful sneakers, we might all be seniors but we are still young at heart.

Patsy, I too am glad you got to talk to your brother, I am sure it meant a lot to both of you.

    Have a wonderful day.

Wet and cold. Summer just sneaked away with too much fanfair. Oh well! I love all seasons.

I just have a few minutes because I need to get the finishing touches on my Sunday brunch. All I really need is coffee and toast. But I think our company will enjoy the whole thing. We are also having a very weak mimosas. Only a small measure of champagne . In case anyone decides to drive anywhere. Here in Oregon we are strict about alcohol and driving. I think I will turn on Sunday Baroque, not sure everyone will like it but we will see. I do love that pleasant complicated upbeat music. Actually, I can’t think of any music I don’t like some of.

It is a lot of work to entertain house guests. I have noticed our children have not noticed we are getting old. We are still the ones who do all the holiday stuff and all the entertaining. John still does his carpentry. He works on his cars. I do the cooking and laundry and John vacuums the stairs etc. but I know soon we will need to tell them....hey! We are getting way old! You need to chip in on all the entertaining. Then I will gratefully give them the China and big platters etc. for now, we are still enjoying the whole process. I wish I were not so slow

    Have a lovely Sunday, everyone.

It is SIZZLING here! Even the wind is hot, hot, hot. Mikes turned up but not for long, it's too hot for Beanie. 31 degrees centigrade. Bean ate his lamb chop for lunch.

Your "sizzling" is my "cool-down" 86 degrees! But I didn't venture out! However, I cannot sit at my desk as I developed a cramp behind my knee and it won't disappear. (The 1st sentence disappeared, though!) Gotta walk or stamp or jump lol!
    Otherwise, OK!

I woke up to 81 in the house because I turned the A/C off overnight. I've got the temp. down to 77 at the moment. Tomorrow is relief day and then it rises again to 79 on Wednesday. Is Ontario the new Florida? The Apple trees are aging. Maybe I should replant oranges?

Happy Monday! :) Beautiful here, sun is shining, temperature around 65 degrees so windows are open and getting fresh air. Sitting later today as Lisa has a class to keep up her teacher's certification. Tomorrow so she can go to her meeting. Busy week once again.

I watched the Emmy's last night, totally boring. None of the shows I watch got an award most were from HBO, which I will not pay for and from Netflix which I do pay. Prime TV seems to be on it's way out.

Anne, sorry you are suffering with the heat, but in no time you will be freezing with the cold.

Lin, happy Autumn to you as well.

    Have a great day everyone.

No view beyond my garden as low cloud, mist and rain have drifted in. After a walk in the woods with the pooches and a quick trip to a local supermarket to buy George's lamb mince and cat Hebe's senior sachets we had an appointment with the groomer. Her truck is still in the garage for repairs so we set up the table in the garden room and he's now looking gorgeous after a short clip. I phoned the vet practice to discuss George's cyst that he keeps licking and we've agreed I take him in next Tuesday first thing and if the vet is happy with it's condition he will stay for an operation to remove it. I hate the idea of him having another surgical procedure but if left it will more than likely flair up again.

My feet are now up as I enjoy my afternoon cuppa and think about plans to paint and decorate throughout the downstairs because it doesn't appear our weather will improve this week. Better than watching depressing political news!

    Happy Monday everyone.

Hello, back from errands and planning the afternoon. Will be meeting a lady in a few hours to sell a pair of boots. She definitely should be there as I am meeting her at her place of employment and heard from her this morning. Of course I have been fooled many times. 🤔

Crazy stop at the consignment shop. Got one of the few available bins. A line is forming before the store opens now as people seem to know there are very few open totes. Meanwhile I spoke with the gentleman in front of me. He goes to the store every morning with a tote full of clothing. Turns out his wife never got rid of any of their son’s clothing since he was born. The child is no longer a child, he is 15! He has 20 totes packed and waiting right now. They went through all of his items and rejected anything with a stain right there on the spot. I think he is known to them. Another guy brought in a tote and 3 large items (apparently that’s the limit on large things). He was kind of rude once he got in the store but I was glad to just get my few things unloaded and picked up some money. Always a good thing. The guy who’s seemed to be in charge in the area told me things just keep getting more difficult. They are inundated and that when it he believes it couldn’t get more busy, it does. He said, we’ve got to find ways to streamline this more. Yup! Agree. 🥳🥳

It amazes me. There does not seem to be a slow time in there now. I do believe my idea or taking time off from taking things to them seems very good. Haaaaa.

Anne, wow, your house was overheated. My goodness. Now to capture that heat for soon to come colder days. Yes, that would be nice.

Sandy, I didn’t watch the awards since, like you, I don’t have any of the add on services these days like Netflix or Hulu much less HBO or Showtime. I remember being familiar with most of the shows way back in the day. No longer. Enjoy the kiddos. You are such an accommodating grandmother.

Jackie, feet up. Sounds fine to me. Poor George. I hope the cyst can be cleared up. There was fog this ,or in t evening the North of us. In fact some areas had visibility down to Zero. Dangerous driving then. We had no dog whatsoever.

    Hello Buzz and Patsy.

Good morning! Our weather is cloudy with expected showers. Cool temps, so it is sweater weather. Katie has been rather depressed since her guests left. She is a pack animal! She loves all her stuffed animals and she likes to sit right between John and me as we read or answer emails on the iPad. She has that Velcro personality. So do I!

I will admit that hot weather is harder for me to endure. I don’t even look good in hot weather clothes. I love dark colors, so I guess I am in the right spot to live. Too much sun and heat would just dry me up even more than I am now. I am sort of a walking prune.

Jackie: GASP! I thought you had just finished painting your house inside! It takes me forever to do anything like painting a wall. By the way, our sweet Mazzie had to have a cyst removed. It was on her back. She had dissolving stitches but we still had to have them looked at and the last bits removed. She did very well after that surgery. The cyst didn’t come back and she healed quickly. I guess it is a common problem is some breeds. She was a such a love Bug!

The week begins...chores and other important tasks like sewing the buttons back on my old comfy cotton sweater. Katie chewed several off as my sweater got tossed on my chair. There are certain things that she is driven to chew up.??? Who know what that’s about.

Hullo LIN!!!!! And everyone else and that's about it from me.
All's well but I woke from a nap I did not expect or plan and it's LATE. I was a bit upset by our residents' Board Meeting , at which we were told no Political lectures or lectures on religion will be allowed any longer. This Board member is a new resident who ran before she was Constitutionally permitted. When I stood and announced that we all seemed to be adults with the ability to pick and choose programs to attend. I received a standing ovation and I think a reversal of the "committee's" bad rule! Now I lay me down to sleep..... o:)

OH MY, JACKIE. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY. I THINK THE TIMES ARE A CHANGING FOR SURE IN THE OLD COUNTRY.

Does this mean that the European court system will rule over the British Supreme Court for ever should Britain remain in the EU? I wonder if the present queen is the last of the royals in a long long line.

Hi Anne, yes, back to shouting at each other across the floor I suppose but that's what comes of not having ever organised a written constitution over the hundreds of years. Bound to hit the buffers at some point!! Not daring to switch on the tv news and watch them all baying for blood so thank goodness no rain at the moment as I head for my "wild bottom"!!

Hello, another morning of chaos and discordant screaming around the world.

I am enjoying my coffee and intend to also enjoy playing Mah Jongg with the ladies this morning. I expect to hear lots about last weekend’s Fall Festival. One lady’s husband entered the parade with his classic car and their grandkids were quite excited about the event. All were hoping to be asked to ride in the car with him. Hummm. Not enough space!

A day with warmer temperatures expected. But sunshine during the day, scary storms expected overnight.

    Hugs. ❤️❤️

I will add one comment from a Russian workmate years ago. He said, quote:
The only difference between the west and Russia is Russians KNOW they live in a dictatorship, whilst we in the west don't know it. Now There's room for thought.

Happy Tuesday! :) Another beautiful but busy day. My foot is screaming in pain once again so I put the big shoe back on and will be seeing the foot doctor this afternoon. First to pick up an order from Kohl's, then to get my hair colored and cut before the doctor and straight to the kiddos when done. I still have an appointment next Monday for my knee/hip but that pain seems to have gone so I might cancel.
I haven't even had time to hear the news so that is probably a good thing.

    Have a wonderful day.

Lovely sunny day. A Goldilocks kind of day...not too hot and not too cold! I am sure John will be out working on the deck and I will be doing my usual stuff. Katie will be supervising everyone.

I don’t have the same feeling about politics as you know. I always feel it is good to wade in up to your neck and see what can be done. You are most likely right, nothing can be done by us lowly grey-haired seniors but we can make a lot of noise. And I try to do just that! These are strange times, indeed. But it feels like the Vietnam war days. Lots of protests and descent. The Nixon era...however, I don’t assume the great orange one would ever just resign. Do you remember all the fabulous folk songs from that era? That’s what we need! Great protest songs! Anyway...........

I am enjoying flavored coffee these days. Chocolate and caramel, no sugar but a splash of almond milk. It is happy time in your mouth as you sip and plan your day. I know you English babes are in love with various blends of tea. I like that as well.

Stay in the fight, my dears. Remember...”this too shall pass.”

PATSY, never will I desert you! TaIkin' in there ,stompin', fightin', and debating along the way! And still becoming astonished at the lies my fellow Americans accept without a blink!
I must bubble over about my unexpected adventure today when a dear fried called to announce her inability to walk due to pain, and offering me her ticket to see Downton Abbey this afternoon at the Oh So Comfy Cineplex with her husband! Of course I accepted and I must say I adored the film and am hoping for future forays of the members of this royal family entering into an era much different from their past social standing! It begins exploration of heretofore "unmentionable" relationships, brings back many of the people we cared about and ,well let's just say I found it magnificently elegant! I did not doze off even once!
JACKIE and ANNE, I'll be interested in your views when you see it.
SANDY, hope your pain disappears very quickly, and cannot blame you and LIN for not watching news! Wish I could ignore it as well....I wonder!
