Dear BUZZ I'm so glad you had such an enjoyable day. But, I'm afraid I'm a dead loss with views on Downton Abbey. I must be the only person to have seen only two and a half episodes in the whole series. Maybe I'll catch up with you all in the future!! I'm so glad you had a lovely and unexpected day out though. Surprise gifts are the very best!

All activity over here. Mark sealing cement paths before old man winter blows by. Perfect weather. This afternoon 77 F which is still a bit hot for me, but I'll take it!

PATSY are you watching the history of Country and folk music on public television? Started with the grass roots era way back, passing Hank Williams and Jonny Cash etc on the way and yesterday it featured the Vietnam era. Learnt quite a bit about these stars and the poverty many suffered in childhood particularly during the depression.

Well must away with Bean and her morning trot,
Are you still in your robe LIN enjoying a morning coffee on your special day?
    Anne.

Sorry I've been AWOL but bogged down with solicitors' emails and all that goes with property sales..... stressful or what!! As for our constitution, I've given up on ever thinking the British people have the freedom to vote for what we want because the Establishment will always tell us they know best. Anne will know, the aristocracy have spoken and the rest of us have to doff caps, curtsey and do as we're told!! Enough of that; I've missed my lunch and my throat is complaining it needs a warm drink so will tootle off and return when I've filled my tummy and warmed up.... yes it's a cold, damp day!! :/:s:o

Hi JACKIE, alas it's like I said earlier on what the Russian guy said to us at work. He said, "the Russian people KNOW they are ruled by a dictatorship, the rest of the western world haven't realized they are as well".
I'm disgusted with the lot of them over here and over there. Money talks. The only way I can show how I feel is by telling the hopeful candidates knocking on my door what I think of their parties. Our election is on October 21st. Will I vote? Doubt it, better things to do in my little world. Believe me I was once as passionate as PATSY and BUZZ, but now totally disillusioned by the whole so called democracy.
PS. That's why I didn't watch Downton Abbey, subconscious I think. Just wasn't interested.
    Anne.

Happy Wednesday! :) Another beautiful day, if I can't go to the pool I love this kind of weather. Lisa made me and Bryanna tacos yesterday and they were delicious. Luckily I only gained a couple of ounces so they were worth eating. Tonight is bingo and tomorrow I speak at my meeting. Have to come up with a topic today which I think will be fear.

Lin, I hope your special day is as special as you are and all your friends are as good to you as you are to them. <3<3

Anne, I might not protest and write letters but I do vote. I feel those who don't vote and complain haven't the right to complain. Don't take me wrong I am not speaking of you but I know many people who complain and complain and never vote especially Babe.
Have you had tea with your new friend yet? Downton Abbey was one of my favorite shows so I am anxious to see the movie.

Jackie, I can imagine how frustrating it is to get the estate settled especially long distance.
Enjoy your hot drink and relax.

Buzz, thank you for the great review of Downton Abbey, I can't wait to see it. If you kept awake through the whole movie it must have been good. :D

Patsy, how much more work on the deck?

I was getting my hair done and my hairdresser got a text from her sister who works at a store not to far from where we were and said they had a shutdown in the area because of an active shooter. It seems like a guy was kneeling in a front lawn with a shotgun so they sent police, swat, an ambulance and helicopters. It ended with the man taking his own life but shut down the entire area for a couple of hours. Scary stuff when it so close.

    Have a great day.

Hello my friends. I appreciate the birthday wishes so much. My goodness Jackie, how did you find a Husky that looks so much like my my male doggie. Awwwwwww.

I am spending this sunny day running about having fun. I got my free birthday reward at Starbucks and plan to spend my cash at Kohl’s a bit later. Lots of percents off as birthday offers but am not certain I will use any of those. It is also grocery discount day at my local store so I will stop there as well. Enjoying some emails, texts and ecards. My Mah Jongg group surprised me yesterday with a lovely gift and a handmade card. My jaw dropped at the trouble they went to for my birthday.

Well, back on the road again. Don’t want to miss any of the fun and prowling about.

    Hugs.

oh my ! Happy birthday dear Lin! I want you to know something...and it is very important. You are the most sensitive and caring person I have ever known. And I do feel like we all know each other. Your lovely cards, handmade, with each person in mind. With Your devoted church work, you offer a way of life that is positive and I suspect, very calm. Please know how much you are are loved. We depend on you. You are the one how brings good wishes with your good friendship. Happy happy day!

This will be the first time since the age of 18 I will not vote. It's impossible to choose between any of the 5 parties. They are all promising impossible things at enormous cost. We all have the right to complain whether we vote or not, I don't vote in the USA election but I have the right to complain if decisions are made to plunge us into wars that aren't wanted but other countries are expected to join in. I don't vote any more in the British elections but of course I am appalled as I see democracy seemingly go to the winds and a vote I might have made disregarded.
At almost 84 I am totally disillusioned and at this moment in time the only people who matter are my small family, my circle of friends including you guys and yes, my little dog. Stop the world, I want to get off and find a backwater to chill, and bury my nose in a veggie patch.
Last stand from yours truly on politics.
    Respectfully, Anne.

No apology needed SANDY. ❀️ At least our little group is democratic! As in, I hasten to add, seeing both sides of the coin.
The point I was trying to clumsily make was, sometimes if you DONT vote, just maybe you have more right to complain seeing you didn't vote for any of the t..ts um candidates in the first place.. It must be even harder in the states having only two choices. Most people here spoil their ballots by voting for everyone on the voting paper if they can't make their minds up. I once upon a time was a voting clerk before disillusion crept in. There was quite a number of spoilt ballots! Rather than show displeasure by spoiling a paper, I'll just keep away this year. Good excuse at 83, even if I can still toddle along with the best of them. Our station is quite a ways away.

Hi LIN, hope all this doesn't spoil your birthday. I'm sure you know it's all written good naturedly and I for one am hoping you are having a great day! πŸ™ƒβ€οΈ

Anne, yep last call, honestly, on politics.

I am looking forward to seeing the Downton Abbey movie. I suspect the series and the movie is much more popular here in the states. We have never seen such extreme elegance. Yes we have rich powerful families but the way of life is certainly not as elegant as shown in Downton Abbey. Also the art direction, talented cast and the set design takes our breath away. Maggie Smith! Talk about being star struck.....

One more positive note about our politics; I have worked on several political campaigns and your opinion does matter. We would keep a close tally on constituent’s opinions concerning various issues. I was one of the legions of volunteers who did the frontline kind of stuff. Like keep track of local support of various issues. There is no doubt that things get corrupted with fundraising efforts. The human factor can’t be denied. I am still that cockeyed optimist like in the song.

Yes! I have been watching Ken Burns latest documentary on Country Music. I love all his documentaries. His series on the National Parks was just plain fabulous. The man is a genius.

We are struggling with Katie’s territorial attitude. She just comes UNHINGED when someone comes near the car when we are on errands. Getting gas was like containing a tiger in the back seat.
    I am exhausted!

Autumn has definitely arrived with rain and more rain, cooler temperatures and the sound of the Canada geese flying just above the tree tops doing practice runs before heading for Greenland and beyond. Not only that, look what I found during our woodland walk.... breakfast for Lin!
    hcggrfcm331k.jpg
Sue the gardener visited this morning and did a brilliant job shaping a bay tree into a lollipop shape. More house sale email exchanges of course then a visit to the allotments to attend a meeting where plot holders got to meet the new lady taking over the job as clerk of our local parish council. I picked a large handful of green beans before coming home too!

Sounds like a fun day Lin so enjoy every minute. A lovely gift from your friends who obviously appreciate and love you as much as we do. πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ§‘πŸ’œ

Sandy, how awful that anyone would feel the need to terrorise strangers before killing himself but I do understand these things do happen quite often. Thank goodness no one else hurt.
Don't ever feel you can't voice an opinion Sandy because none of your friends here would ever find offence in anything you'd say. I've often said the same about not complaining if you don't vote but these days find myself in a similar place to Anne not liking the opinion of any political party so what to do?

Patsy, my little boy George is a tiger too if anyone gets too close to my car, I'm sure he considers it as important as the cottage so his territory. I used to feel the need to apologise but now appreciate as far as he's concerned he's doing an important job.

Buzz, Downton tended to send me to sleep with it's scenes of long drawn out looks and sighs but I do appreciate it's beauty. Mustn't be caught snoring at the cinema though! ☺

    Time for feet up.

    y8xb45m7i7n1.png

JACKIE and ANNE the movie was not drawn out as was the series (which I loved); honestly I didn't doze once. And though there was pomp and circumstance, it was in the midst of the coming changes in society, and a fore-site to today! Two hours was not enough for me!!!

Ah, ANNE, I feel your pain and want to do worse than growl every time the orange monster exhibits his unbelievable abilities to be nasty in the extreme! He cannot fight a fair campaign, even! He must go to foreign countries to do his dirty work for him! Don't debate; eliminate! And no one has the guts to bring up that he and his kids are the blackest pots of all! GGRRrrr!

PATSY, what a lovely tribute to LIN! I think of you all in the same way. Ah, LIFE IS GOOD!

There's nothing about Canada rugby here JACKIE! Otherwise I'd have been up and around. No patriotism and yet England versus America is shown. Ah well. Maybe the heat did Canada in although I doubt it. We finally are down to afternoons in the 70s. I'll plead jet lag instead.

Can't resist one final politics comment. Our Green Party leader May is shown sipping from a once only plastic coffee mug at a campaign rally for her party who's main goal is climate change seeing they want to save the planet from plastic bags and waste. See what I mean! What with erstwhile PMs running around covered in black shoe polish or sitting with poverished native chiefs in feather head dresses from endangered birds, well I won't go into the other three potential leaders because I'd be onto the next page. Can we be all living in the twilight zone of comedy shows?

Dorio arrives today with the groceries, a nice normal human being amidst all the campaigning door knockers.

Now, a very very old lady as sadly died in Michael's condo building. Her apartment is directly above him on the third floor. What to do if it comes up for sale. That should take my mind off all the Justin's, Elizabeth's, Singhs, etc!

With love and peace to all Sneakers, Anne.β€οΈπŸ™ƒ

More emails for me to deal with in between the rugby, a walk round the village and a load of washing in and out of the garden as we go from showers to sunshine. Paint brushes at the ready to continue decorating this afternoon if we get more rain than sun.
    Happy Thursday everyone.

Good morning. It is former library lady morning. So off to chatter once again. I would imagine it will be difficult to stay away from all gloom and doom given the state of the world. One of our members is vehemently opposed to any discussion that is not positive in tone. I think she goes home with a headache some mornings. Although being vehement about what we discuss is a bit limiting.

I will cruise through the BBC news before I leave. At least that’s a bit different view than our new sources.

Thank you once again for all the lovely birthday messages and pictures (I will pass on the tree fungus Jackie leaving it all for you). You are all very skilled writers and I am overwhelmed by your kindness.

    Much love and many hugs.

    Lin

P.S. 24-0 final score, who won, is this still rugby?

Well JACKIE at least we are good at some things! Maybe they should try a "friendly" in the House of Commons this weekend, I can just see Boris clutching the ball and shoving the spindly legged Jeremy out of the way as he thunders down Downing Street. That's if he's got over his jet lag of course.
AND you are in for another royal wedding I see! Might take the publics mind off Brexit for a while.

Hi LIN, hope you can continue the celebration today. I'm all for birthdays lasting a whole week. After all the British monarch celebrates HER birthday twice. Great idea!

Hugs to all battle weary friends,

... and if England had kicked the ball away as soon as they heard the final gong instead of showing off it would have been 45-0. Never mind!
Anne, did you ever see the video of Boris playing rugby with small children and knocking one flying? Practicing for the current shenanigans!! πŸ˜„

Buzz, your friends Judy and Gerald just phoned to say hello and confirm where we will meet for afternoon tea tomorrow. They sound delightful and I'm so looking forward to meeting them in person.

Time for my steamed veggies and minted lamb burger.

'Fraid I'm not a rugby fan (nor football or other brain-harming games!) but I admire your enthusiasm, anyway!
JACKIE, I did't realize Judy and Gerald are reaching you tomorrow! I figured they were still poking around Morocco or Spain. How exciting. Please give them my love, mention our Shelagh is no longer with us (was our Irish head of culinary), and do send me some photos of the 3 of you, please! And I'm sure you will all find each other delightful and special, or I never would have tried an introduction!
I have been watching the proceedings from Congress concerning the impeachment investigation, and my heart is heavy, my head spinning with the fright of watching this spectacle. Indeed this is not the ethical standard by which I was raised! The truth appears irrelevant to protecting the political evasions of a President whose very existence is a sham!

Oops, an urgent call from my friend across the hall; AVG will not let him uninstall their antivirus program, though he has Windows Defender! I better do some research to try to help!

Good evening. It does seem to be a frantic time in our world. One of our former library ladies showed up this morning in question the foul temper and very excitable. Yes, she has been glued to the television and was quite put out that she pulled herself away to come to visit with us and we didn’t really want to talk about that issue for hours. Oh well. I still had a good time. I also found my much loved small bags of water softener salt (25 lbs) and I think I may have enough for the winter. No one was around to load them so I got my poor shoes soaked and full of grass clipping as cars were parked in the way of the stack and I had to walk across the lawn to get them. But yes, it was still worth it.

I am doing a bit of laundry this afternoon.

Looking forward to going to the 3-day used book sale at my library starting tomorrow morning. Cash or check only. I hope to mostly prowl around finding it what is being sold and maybe I will find a treasure or two.

I will admit, I still don’t understand rugby or cricket. Sorry.

Hugs everyone. Back to the laundry.

I just returned from the store. A type of frozen vegetable blend that is available in two stores in my area now (all other outlets have dropped it) was on sale today. I ran over and got the few packages that were available. Something tells me the manufacturer is likely dropping it. 😒 That happens to me often. I love something and suddenly it is not available. I have even written to manufacturers but of course to no avail. I guess that shows the things I like are not beloved by the majority of people.

Haaaa, in the minority even when it comes to food!

I am doing a bit more laundry and will likely go to the book sale. Possibly every day. I saw a little video and only a bit of what they have to sell is out right now. They do not have space to put everything out so they will be adding more books as others are sold. πŸ€—

I will not be protesting. I do not believe anyone care much about what an old lady like me has to say.

Hope your walk was a very good one Anne.

    Hugs Sneakers
