Happy Sunday! The sun is trying to come out but still very cloudy. I am thinking of going to pool but might change my mind. Kelly and Will went to Chinatown and then to a museum so I am doing the bedding and towels they used. They will stop back here before driving home since they have leftovers from both days that they can take home. We went to dinner last night and then played a game of dominoes which Kelly won. It was an early night so we are all rested today. It was a great visit and I love seeing my grandchildren no matter how old they are and happy that take the time to come visit.
Jackie, I love that song and love the colors you chose. Won't you be happy to get it all done so you can finally relax and get back to "normal"? It will be even better when your grumpy neighbors get their outside work done and you can have peace and quiet.
Lin, I love your cards, they are just beautiful, great job. That was quite an experience you had with thunder, I don't blame you for being afraid to this day. I count the second when it thunders to see how close lightning might be.
I don't mind day storms but I have to admit I am afraid of night storms. Sorry you had to go through that as a child.
Annsie, you made me laugh outloud with your remark about not being sweet like me. I am not that sweet, I try to be kind but there are some people I just can't be kind too and Harry sounds like one of them. You enjoy that Baileys after all those years you deserve a couple of good drinks once he is gone.
Well, I am all caught up on my games and other computer things so it is decision time, pool or no pool. I might just finish binge watching Lucifer since I finally made it to the 4th season and the 5th just came out.
Have a great day.
Sandy

Mikes sitting somewhere making sure the second vaccine shot he's just had isn't reacting badly. Five of us still to go.
Thanks SANDY for being so understanding. I'm blowed if I'm going to waste a $30 bottle of Baileys on a guy who hasn't done a thing for me in 33 years! The other day Joyce mentioned they had been unwell and I asked if there was anything I could do to help and she muttered "we should be helping YOU". Well they did didn't they still carting stuff heading somewhere!
LIN. very understandable your nervousness with thunderstorms. Do you remember last year when Jilly and I watched a lightning sreak heading straight for us and the back window. It landed on the grass just outside and scared the daylights out of the pair of us. Much, much worse for you!
Those are the colours I love JACKIE
.
Just had a text from Michael who is now home.
92F here and Bean and I are holed up in the a/c licking an ice cream cone. Well I've got the cone Bean has a bit in her dish.
Now to get back to my book, The Huntress.
Peaceful Sunday to everyone,
Anne.

Here we are dealing with uncommon heat! No A/C but we have multiple fans going. Our humidity is high and it is quite muggy. A odd but disturbing thing happened last night. Since it was so warm, I let Katie out on the deck and I left the French doors open. An adorable little green frog leaped inside and disappeared somewhere in here. We have flea traps that could hurt him. I don’t use poisons on Katie so we do have these flea traps several places. They are a small lighted cage with a sticky liner that attract the fleas.
I am freezing lots of ice cubes, refrigerate multiple bottles of water. Fans going on high, we will be eating sandwiches and salads for at least a week. The kitchen is closed until further notice. I told John we are getting an a/c because global warming is here! I don’t want to go through this every summer from now on. Katie agrees. She keeps eating my ice chips.
In my opinion, I think this entire group is not only good and kind people, but uncommonly sweet and considerate. John is the most cranky and crusty of us all. He considers himself a sneaker. He asks about the sneaker news every morning over coffee. But down deep he is an old sweetheart.
Do whatever you can to stay safe and cool.
Patsy☘️0 -
Patsy, I certainly thought of you, John and Katie when I read this BBC news story earlier today. Dangerous heat so please do take care, drink as many fluids as you can and no unnecessary exertion. Staying out of the kitchen is good!

Keep safe

John should definitely consider himself adopted by us PATSY. A\C is a godsend. I couldn't cope without it. Its a small window unit but it does the job remarkably well and I've had it about 20 years. I've a bigger one in reserve for if this gives up the ghost. Ansie.0

Good day everyone.
Jackie, thanks for posting the color swatches. Very lovely colors. I like more than one of the tones in each color family. I guess I would have to paint stripes as I could not decide which was my favorite. Well, that is very interesting that those gents seemed to be aware of the situation with the property line. I hope that keeps everyone behaving well and within the law.
Patsy, oh my gosh, hot, hot, hot. My friend in Portland has two window air conditioners and she cools the dog in the laundry sink or takes him to swim in the river early in the day. I am glad to hear you are going to purchase an air conditioner. That will be helpful for everyone. And hello to our Sneaker John.
Sandy, what a nice visit with your granddaughter and her friend. But there is always laundry isn’t there? We were expecting rain this afternoon, again, but it didn’t develop. So now I have to decide if I should water my plants tonight. 🤣🤣. So you are saying you aren’t sweet tempered? I don’t know if many people would agree.
Anne, yes, I remember the lightning. These things are quite the fright and somewhat difficult to forget. Glad that Michael is home with shot #2 done. Do you have your second shot scheduled?
I attended church online this morning, did some straightening up and surprise, a friend who hasn’t called me for months (although I have called her a few times) called this afternoon and chattered about the repairs she’s had to do on her pool and its surrounds this spring. Amazing the number of things that had to be fixed this year. Her son reminded her about the age of the pool and she said that made her feel a bit better. Maintenance was due. Her daughter is ill right now and she hardly ever is unwell. She has shingles and I was astounded to hear that since she had both of the new shingles shots. I guess nothing is 100%.
Tomorrow morning I have a crew coming to swap out one of the cylinders of my water conditioning system. I have done a lot of research and cannot find anything that shows this is necessary and it is expensive. But the water here is uniquely horrible so the local company should know best what type of maintenance is needed to keep the system functioning. Well, I hope I can heat up the credit card some more. ☺️
Be safe everyone.

Happy Monday to everyone… a quick check-in
Overall a very nice weekend that flew by. It’s over 80 at 5:45am and looks like a day of sun/clouds w/ a thunderstorm in spots; hot and humid…
Jean Bills and I have watched BOSCH since 2014…the “Final” season was released Friday and of course we blitzed it! Some great acting by all (not overacting); the writing was both and natural and well-done. Hope Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) show’s up in another series soon. So little good TV….mostly brainless garbage.
Worked on “Congrats” cards for the grandkids past midnight for “end of school year and will mail to them today with a token $2.00 lottery ticket for fun. Got a text from my daughter yesterday and I guess her annual 4th of July cook-out is a go! We weren’t positive it would happen given the events of the last year.
Sandy – Glad you could work in a quiet day and hopefully catch up on sleep. You may be losing your tan, but I am still jealous – I am normally just a shade of red. LOL. As for Jean – you’re right I am lucky. I think we laugh just about every day…even on bad days. I could never be with a gloomy/negative person – they drain the battery of those they hang with. As for smoking, congrats! it was the birth of my daughter that made me quit.
Anne – Well, well…”Cigareets and whuskey and wild wild women / They'll drive you crazy they'll drive you insane” – I think you’re a Jim Croce fan. LOL I will never return to smoking. It isn’t even a thought after all these years. It looks so funny when I watch all my classic movies from the 30’s-50’s and everyone is puffing away.
Lin – It was definitely hot yesterday and we were still out and about from early morning until 3pm. But there was a wonderful breeze that allowed for sitting on the deck and soaking up that “it’s good to be alive” feeling. The pick-a-hand thing is something Jean introduced me to 25 years ago – been doing it since then for restaurants, movies, car rides etc. – makes it fun.
Hope you get some relief from the odd weather, especially the humidity. Jean has been working on nurturing her plants etc and the animals seem to have abated a bit. With regards to “masking fluid” I would have been one of those without a clue. I thought your watercolor work was beautiful!
Jackie – Love Enrique Iglesias…. Great video. I can’t do the treadmill without getting lost in music videos. And lyrics are extremely important. Thanks for sharing. Of course, I start with something like “Start Me Up” (Stones) and end with Enrique softer tunes.
Patsy – Hard to handle heat over 90 if it is also humid/muggy with a/c. Glad you had some fans to help ease the discomfort. When you mentioned “ freezing lots of ice cubes, refrigerate multiple bottles of water” I had a flash-back to years ago in Washington DC – it was 95 degrees with unrelenting direct sunshine. We were on a bus with friends and someone was hawking bottles of water for $2-3.00 and I jumped at the chance. I hopped back on the bus and tore open the cap tipping the bottle toward my almost parched lips…and nothing happened. It was a block of solid ice. Not even a teaspoon of water dropped out. Oh the cruelty. I might as well have been Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke “in the box.” LOL.
I think you are so right about the people on this board being good and kind. Love the John description! Aren't all men adopted in one way or another...it's the training that's difficult. LOL
Off to seize the day – I heard Jean go downstairs and will spend some time with her before heding to the gym (behind schedule).
Have a great day! A BIG HI to ALL! Bob

I’m bleary eyed this morning after hours of torrential rain waking me around 3am and not letting up until gone 6am. We were supposed to have a day of thunderstorms but I’ve noticed the BBC weather App has sunshine from midday (now) so I can work outside if it takes my fancy.
I took George and Betty up on the moors for our walk and George with his new short back and sides haircut had a great time doing zoomies now he can see properly where he’s going! Betty watches in awe. All that rain had created pools in places I’ve never come upon before so a couple of times we had to splash through while I did my best to balance by hanging on to branches of spiky gorse (ouch!). A good test of my new waterproof walking boots and yes, I’m home with dry feet.
My first task was to clear sludge from around my garage entrance that had washed off our access track and allowed water under the door so with large spade, trug and heafty broom it’s now clear.
Bob, that story of the frozen bottle of water made me laugh out loud although it must have been tortuous for you at the time 😆. I haven’t come across Bosch except for my washing machine and lawn mower!! I do remember years of ER back in the 90’s that gripped me and friends and we were so sad when it finished.
Lin, my plan is to have a feature wall in each room so the snug will have 3 lilac then the darker plum around fireplace into alcoves and dining room 3 yellow then red on wall behind the staircase. Fiddly and lots of masking tape required in preparation but I do like to set myself these tasks!
I completely understand your fear of storms after that experience as a child. Those formative years set us up for the rest of our lives. I trust your water maintenance gets carried out without a hitch. My middle name is cynical so I hate to pay out for anything I’m not sure is necessary!
Patsy, whatever is going on around the world or at my back door this group is a wonderful reminder for me that as diverse as we are, we have connected because we display genuine kindness and concern for everything needing our attention. You can tell John though that I’m often way up there on the cranky scale and work hard to maintain my position! 😂🤣
Anne, you’ve reminded me of those steamy days in Toronto when I would walk out of an air conditioned office into a hot, wet blanket that wrapped itself round me until I reached home. Luckily I lived on an avenue of ancient trees that soaked up most of the humidity. Good to see Mike’s home after his 2nd jab and hopefully none the worse for it. I had a long chat with my friend yesterday that was planning the Wimbledon ladies finals party and explained that because we now have what we are calling locally the G7 variant, I don’t feel I should risk taking Covid to her home because more and more people with 2 vaccinations are becoming infected. Turns out our latest restrictions say only 6 people from 2 households allowed indoors and if it rains we won’t want to be outdoors so another fun plan has hit the dust!
Sandy, finally a relaxing Sunday for you. It must have felt wonderful although I’m guessing you’re off and running again today!
Gosh, a sudden cold draughty breeze across my knees so I’ll close the door out to my garden and make a decision about lunch.
Stay safe and cool everyone… I’ll keep warm! 😛
Jackie

No BOB. not so much a Jim Croce fan, more another memory! When my Aunt Alice with Helen in tow went to join Uncle Donald, sea captain, in the Middle East it left my cousin Peter without a home when on leave from the royal airforce .......so he bunked down in our spare bedroom. I was 12 I guess at the time and he used to sing that song! Later it was the muppets.
I've just heard from a very sleepy Mike today with a few vaccine reactions.
You will have fun painting those colours JACKIE. I love colour and a "refined" home, the type you see in glossy magazines all white and grey or puce is alien to me. I remember when I painted my LR a palish yellow Mary Jos mother recoiling in horror. Actually I haven't repainted it since and still love it! It could do with a touch up though but I'm banned from climbing ladders these days. lol. Something I can't do on the quiet like changing my bedroom around yesterday. Love the new arrangement and wish I'd done it years ago.
Hi to everyone. I think we are all basically kind deep down and I can't really see myself drinking a toast when Harry rolls into the sunset, or rather the humidity. I'll save it for Christmas instead. I'm one of those folks who sort of gets ruffled but half hour later its all forgotten. Lifes too short to worry about collapsing fences.
Hey ho and off to vacuum I go.

Happy Monday! Another gloomy day. Yesterday I did not make it to the pool, it was too cloudy. Of course once I took my shower and did hair and makeup the sun came out. It was later in the afternoon so I rode my bike instead as I gained a couple of pounds over the weekend, what's new?
Anne, sorry to read about your hot, hot weather, please stay in and stay hydrated. We all know you are one of the most kind hearted people we know so no worries. You can certainly have a toast when Harry leaves just to be rid of the mosquitoes, Christmas is too far away.
Jackie, I admire your dedication to walking the dogs even when "dog" tired. No plans for the rest of the week except for my meeting as of now. So much rain is putting a damper on everything but mostly my pool time. It won't be long before I leave for Florida so I can't complain too much.
Bob, I'm with you with being around gloomy people, such a downer. I had to detach from an old friend because she lived in the past and brought up all the bad memories. Even with my husband now that he lives with his son is always down but I just try to stay cheery when talking to him which isn't often anymore. Enjoy your day.
Lin, I try to be very kind most of the time like we all do, but thank you for your kind words. Yes, always laundry especially after guests and with my OCD I have to get it done asap. Good luck on the water system.
Patsy, I agree, you and John should run and get an A/C as soon as possible. Even just a window one would cool you down. They even have little personal A/C on Amazon.

Have a great day everyone, looks like more Lucifer binging for me.

Good afternoon. Well, the tall carbon cylinder has been swapped out. I stayed close and watched the entire procedure. I asked more questions and although I never received satisfactory responses on why I was not told this was needed, why the cylinder did not have the promised expiration date on it, etc. I got the story that changing this cylinder will help the longevity of the softener side of the water system and should extend the original 20-year expected life span. I am hard to convince but it seems this is definitely a short term revenue booster for them including now, recommending they do the water filter replacements. We will see. I spent a lot of time bleeding out air from both the drinking water system and the softened water (first and second floors). Lots of sputtering and shaking even with a slow stream of water. The drinking water line has stopped sputtering but I am getting a lot of what looks like fine lime particulate matter. I cannot get it to run clear. It does settle to the bottom of a container though so hopefully that will work out all right.
I spoke to the friend with the sudden health issue with a short hospital stay. She has seen a doctor within the clinic she goes to but has had to wait until tomorrow for an appointment with her regular doctor. She is hoping for some help as the additional medication that was prescribed when in the hospital has given her a daily headache. She is quite eager to see her own doctor who knows her quite well. She is also going to the audiologist later this week to pick up her first ever hearing aids. I believe she said there is a trial period with them so if they don’t work for her, she can order something else apparently. She is eager to hear better. I hope it all works for her.
And I signed up for more classes. This time it is card classes. I don’t know know if I will learn anything but it seemed worth a try. 😄
Jackie, I love your idea of an accent wall. Well done and wonderful to use more of those delicious colors. Please stay warm. We have sunshine, humidity and a bit of a breeze. The promised rain did not arrive once again. We are lucky to be only in the low 80’s F this afternoon. But definitely not cold!
Anne, a little drink when your neighbors depart would still be a good idea. Best wishes to them in your own private going away party. Not mean at all. A toast to their next chapter. I heard Toronto had a huge vaccination event. Well done. I am glad people want to receive their vaccination(s).
Sandy, I wish the rain would land here long enough to drop and inch or two. South of us, certain localities have received upwards of 7” of rain. I do not want that much! In the area near my farm I did hear that there were just two very short showers on Saturday so the drought continues. Enjoy your week, maybe you will have some sunny days. Our forecast went from 7 days of rain to just chances of a shower several days this week. Maybe you will get some pool time.
Bob, I have watched Bosch as well but did not start the last season yet. I have been walking slowly through “Spencer for Hire” as there are only 3 seasons. Savoring it I guess. I will finish the third season before I decide what to watch next. I would actually like to watch the entire Bosch series over again. I hope you enjoy this week. Cards with scratch tickets! All right. I used to put some scratch tickets in all of the cards I gave my dad. He loved the tickets more than the card. 😁. Glad to know the pick a hand is not used for things such as a new vehicle or a house. 😉
Patsy, I hope you find an air conditioner. I understand they are also in short supply. What is plentiful I wonder? Please are care of yourselves. My friend uses one of the neck cooling towels by the way and finds it very helpful. ❤️❤️
Be safe everyone.

Hello! I survived a hellish 24 hours. It made me feel absolutely dangerously ill. My face was beet red, very hot and sweaty and light headed and panicky. It shows I am totally incapable in dealing with heat. John was extremely uncomfortable as well. And poor Katie! We survived and while not comfy out at all, it is better. I made lots of ice cubes and put some in Katie’s water. She ate ice chips along with me. John ate cherry no sugar ice cream. I made “popsicles” out of jello water. Veggie cold cuts for dinner.
I know we hear all the time about checking on our older neighbors to see how they are surviving high temps or extreme cold. After this experience, I know know why. I think I can see why our kids were checking on us about every couple of hours. Our son was getting set to drive over to check on us but honestly, then we would have John, Patsy, Damon and two hot doggies. He has a/c, so I say stay home and rejoice in your cooled a/c temps.
Sandy : dearest you are so caring and giving! Thank you for all the links. Believe we are looking at them and trying to order something to help temporarily until we get a more permanent solution.
Anne: thank you also for encouraging us to get a a A/c and live more comfortably in the summer. I fear the mild PNW might be over. Global warming reared its ugly head. You stay cool as well, dear friend. I hear this heat headed your way.
Bob: great suggestion on The tv series. Our area doesn’t have high speed internet. So we are stuck with dvds. However we take note and when available we scoop in and buy the whole series. Pricey but we share with others. Funny true thing……John and I have a suggestion jar. When one of us thinks of some good entertainment option, we write it down on a slip of paper and put in the jar. We take turns shutting our eyes and picking one out of the jar. I suspect John of loading the jar when he really wants to do something. Hummmmmmmm
Jackie: wow! Great colors and the feature walls are elegant and charming at the same time. Extreme weather of any variety puts us at odds. We human beings are constantly adapting, changing, going back a step, starting over, making a mess, cleaning up a mess. Our nests are artistic creations that we live in.

Hot and sticky here already at 6:40. If this continues I can see me and Bean spending our summers in the basement.
Mike had quite a bad reaction to the second shot of the vaccine. Mainly nausea, tiredness, chest and arm pain. He should return to work today. He rarely takes time off so I know he can't have felt very well. Worries me a bit for when its my turn because I need to look after Jilly. Tony next door had his second shot yesterday so I wonder how he is. Maria says she can't bear to put him in long term care [or afford it] but her doctor is very concerned about her health and is sending her for intense heart tests. We have to be so grateful for our lives, there but for the grace of God go I sort of thing. The only relief she gets is when a health worker comes in for two hours each week to allow her to grocery shop and pick up Tonys meds. When she phones me I can hear the poor man jabbering away and she can't talk for long before he's grabbing the mobile. Tonys sister and her husband are coming all the way from Windsor to look after him while M has her 5-6 hours tests and they will sleep over. So sad!
I turned the a/c off during the night but I'm about to turn it back on and gallop off for a shower!
Try to keep cool everyone, especially Patsy, John and Katie. Have you a Childs paddling pool or a Childs bath to fill with cold water for Katie to stand in? You as well! Dogs sweat through their paws and standing in cold water helps them.
Thoughts are with you all,
Anne.1 -
Happy Tuesday to all!
Back from gym and heading out to complete some errands in 1-2 hrs (after clean-up). As for weather – a feel- like temp of almost 80 degrees at 5am and going to feel like almost 100 degrees this afternoon with a 76 degree feel-like low tonight.
Jackie – Bleary eyed after hours of torrential rain etc. sounds like Jean. For me, a storm is like a lullaby (as long as lightening is kept to a minimum.) Hope you were able to work outside in the sunshine midday. You’re so dedicated with your walks – George and Betty are very fortunate. AS for Bosch, we have watched since 2014 and will miss. We only have a handful of series we get hooked on and it seems the seasons fly by and then it is a drought for 4-5 months of decent shows. I just can’t get into reality TV that much…and I do have friends/family hooked on “The Bachelorette” etc. I do love my old B/W classics.
Anne – I should not have assumed you were a Croce fan LOL. I did enjoy his music, but wthen it came to folk-rock back in the day Harry Chapin was my go-to. Strange the both died young and in accidents – one in a plane the other in a car. I was always moved by Chapin’s philanthropic works. Glad you have those memories. Amazing how music and photographs can jog the memory banks. As for “Life’s too short to worry about collapsing fences.” I agree totally.
Sandy – Oh yes, gloomy people can sap the energy from the best of us. I always support the friends/family I love, if they are going through a difficult time – but some adapt to gloom/victimhood as a way of daily living. As for the x-husb, I know what you mean.
Lin – All I can say is they did a great job writing the last season of Bosch…I had no idea how you could wrap up so much in just a handful of episodes. It was definitely the most suspenseful of all seasons. BUT… my lips are sealed. “Spencer for Hire” is still on my mind and I want to see all seasons. I’ll give it a few months to see if available for free or if I can pick up used locally. I do have a few gift cards for eBay/Amazon but not sure I want to use for that. There are a few shows that we have re-watched from the beginning during lockdown…amazing what you either forgot or missed the first time. Good luck with your “card classes” – you could likely teach one yourself and do a great job.
Patsy – Definitely think you would like the series. I don’t normally recommend shows, because tastes vary so much. I can watch all types of shows, but the writing has to be good. Not sure how I would fare without high-speed internet. I am normally multi-tasking and can be downloading, reading and watching TV all at the same time some evenings…going between each during advertisements and slow points etc.
Sounds like you and John have a good system. John would never “load” the jar. Ok maybe he would. Jean and I watch about 60% together (like Bosch) and separate for other shows. She’ll watch things like new Hallmark movies or The Good Witch on one TV and I will be taking in TCM or something I taped. Hope the heat doesn’t get to you today like that hellish 24 hrs…I don’t mind heat as long as I can get the occasional reprieve – but can’t sleep when it is hot. So what kind of no-sugar ice cream does john eat? Asking for a friend. Ha ha ha.
Time to get moving…. Have a great day…wishing everyone a sunny nice day – Bob

Happy Tuesday! Rain, rain go away, come again another day. We are supposed to get a break in the rain so I am going to run to Target and get Bryanna one of those neck coolers I suggested to Patsy. She has no A/C in her car and it is so humid it is hard to breathe. I hope it helps her because she does a lot of driving taking care of Ewok.
I might also take a ride to let Ewok out since there is nothing else to do with all this rain. Lisa posts daily pictures of their Florida vacation and they are having a wonderful time. She and Rob are having a day date this morning doing this. https://www.treeumph.com/ Fun for them, scary for me.
Bob, I would rather have your hot weather than all this rain. It is still hot and humid but thank goodness for A/C although I did not like my electric bill. I am still watching Lucifer but break it up with other shows I watch. I love the old game shows on Buzzr and GSN. What they got away with in those years compared to today makes me laugh.
Anne, can you sleep at night without the air? That is the only time I turn it cooler and run my big old square fan facing me. I love sleeping cool but hate being cold when awake so it goes higher during the day. A lot of people got a reaction from the vaccine but that means it is working and getting into their immune system. It usually only lasts a day so hopefully Mike is fine today. Poor Maria, I don't even know her and wish I could help.
Patsy, I do hope you got some kind of relief from the terrible heat you are getting. I saw this on a show last night and thought of you. Can you go anywhere that has A/C just to get some coolness, like even a car ride??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-mXgiaBsak
Lin, the sun will come out tomorrow or not, but definitely Thursday when I have a meeting. lol It is going to be a beautiful weekend so I will make up for it then. Sorry about your friend and hope it is nothing serious. I agree with Bob, you could probably teach a card class with all the beautiful cards you make.
Jackie, did I miss you this morning or are you posting with me??
Time to eat and moving while the sun is peeking out. Have a great day.

Tuesday and much better on the temps! Thank you God! I do have great concern for homeless and animals. I put water in a big bowl on the deck in the shade of the deck table. A very thirsty Something besides Katie is drinking from the bowl so it must meet a need.
These days John finds many reasons to dig into his ice cream. It cools him and he does enjoy it so much. We ordered a portable room A/C and another little personal desk one. I will use it in the dungeon but right now it is turned towards John’s reading chair. Usually John doesn’t feel too hot. He dresses much warmer than I do. On Sunday, our really hot day, the restaurants closed, fishing boats came in, all stores ran out of ice, cold drinks, and most ice cream, portable A/C of any kind and FANS! John was lucky to get his pricey sugar-free ice cream. Tell me this…why is sugar free so expensive? They are adding less stuff so why charge more? I can make my own sugar free popsicles. Katie has her own favorite. I let her have a Ice cube made of apple juice.
Bob: as the old saying goes, “you don’t miss what you’ve never had.” I know we would love high speed internet. Our internet is sort of high speed but when trying to Watch things on Netflix, as an example, it stalls every few seconds and that little wheel just spins for minutes then the programs continues for a few more seconds. Talk about frustrating!
Sandy: once again I am amazed at your dedication to your family. It is a true lesson in love and consideration. Watching over sweet Ewok and getting Bryanna a little neck a/c. You are teaching me how to show more affection. I feel overpowering love but I don’t always know how to show it. Oh yes! I love Fraser and I know all the episodes by heart. I also loved Portlandia. That silly series actually showed some of the actual nuttiness of Portland before the protestors killed the downtown. (Sigh)
Anne: great idea about getting a kiddy pool for Katie. Will do it! That’s the reaction must people have to A/C. They love it but turn it off when ever possible. When we finally get the permanent one installed, I know I will do the same. The second shot usually causes us a bit more reaction. An aspirin and cup of herbal tea or ginger ale and broth for dinner with a soda cracker. Curl up and go to sleep. A few hours later and BOOM! Back to normal.
Lin: the teapot shape looks very familiar. Gran must have had something similar. Your water softener problem sounds totally perplexing and frustrating. I often feel scammed by certain companies or repairmen. Do certain types of people gravitate toward being repairmen or car salesmen. I realize there are women in those positions. Do I sound tone deaf or insensitive? I apologize.

Hello, dropped off my cards at the post office and then showed up for my reserved time at the Art Center. That was very enjoyable. Claus Oldenburg gallery of small drawings and one smaller sculpture and another small gallery of Goya. I am attending a Zoom meeting in a couple of days on Goya. Then a wander through the remainder of open galleries. Got a visit with many old favorites including the Rothko, Picasso, Hopper, Monet and many more. It was just so wonderful to see the colors, the layers, subtleties of some works and the boldness of others as I toured around. That is something you are unable to see in photos. At least not in the ones I am viewing online.
I left and made a stop at the original old health food store. Surprise, they had their vegan organic made in-house broccoli salad. Guess what was for lunch today?
I plan to watch a Zoom meeting on travel in Wales and Cornwall later this afternoon. Well, that is, if I can get connected. It doesn’t always work.
Another humid day which has produced a headache after my running about this morning in the real air rather than air conditioning.
Patsy, I hope you have found some type of small air conditioner to get you through this spell of super hot weather. I am concerned for you and your household. Keep making ice and ordering ice cream. I do hope the heat breaks to a seasonal level.
Anne, I am sorry it is sticky and hot and rainy. The government is still contacting me from time to time to see if I have had any other reactions to the second vaccine. At first it was each week and then less often and I thought I would not hear from them again. I got a request to fill out and submit another questionnaire on side effects. I ignored it and yesterday I got another request, more pointed than the first, so I did respond this time. They really are taking shot reactions seriously.
Bob, oh my, another hot day. I hope you stay comfortable. And is that iced coffee in the mug you are holding? 🤣😂🤣 I trust Jean won’t be out in the heat trimming or spraying anything this afternoon. I will be out watering the plants tonight. Nope, no sprinkles of rain materialized. Just some clouds for a while.
Sandy, Bryanna is lucky you are so good at looking after her. That cooling towel will be very helpful. I almost purchased one for my longer spells of watering but decided I could sweat as it is not that long. It would be something handy though. Well, okay, sunny on Thursday is Sandy’s forecast. 😂 I will be looking forward to finding out of you nailed it!
Jackie, hello. Did I miss you?

Oh drat! Double drat! My post went away into internet purgatory. Oh well, no news that you couldn’t live without.

Here I am! A cool start to the day, so much so I returned to porridge for breakfast and put an extra fleece layer on for our usual walk. Soon after we set off across the moor my mobile rang and it turned out to be a lady who has a problem at the allotments but as I walked I lost reception each time I faced a certain direction. I continued to stroll and chat while the dogs did their own thing although I did lose sight of them both a couple of times as I spun about to hear what the lady was saying. I’ve agreed to call her at the weekend although not sure how to go about helping as it’s all about the local parish council and personalities… too complex to begin to go into! After the walk I shopped at the farm supply shop but got home before I remembered I wanted more rat poison as that’s a never ending issue.
Of course I’m still washing surfaces, sweeping and dusting!
I did pause to watch our England football team beat Germany in the current European championship and of course Wimbledon is on in the background when rain doesn’t stop matches!
Lin, I do hope you enjoy your visit to Wales and Cornwall…. Lots of sea and sunshine or you might even head in my direction up on the moors!
Sandy, swinging through the trees on a rope or wire wouldn’t be my idea of fun either, even if I was 50 years younger but your adventurous family will have a ball.
A kiddies paddling pool is a great idea for dogs in extreme heat, either that or a hosepipe to spray over them then it can become a game.
Bob, I’m with you when it comes to reality tv. It’s that 15 minutes of fame so many seek these days but they bore me. I’ll watch an interesting documentary or drama any day. No British productions to recommend at the moment but hopefully our Autumn schedules will offer a few.
Finally a hair appointment in the morning. My hairdresser is still catching up after lockdown so I only have an appointment about every 9 weeks and my thick hair becomes unmanageable. I’ll also stop at a DIY store to buy paint, brushes and dust sheets then in to the supermarket for fresh produce.
Almost time for bed and I might switch my electric blanket on!!

Llittle from me for now. Canada has broken four heat records. Same for today, rain and heat.

Anne, no change in the weather for you. 😢 I am so sad you are facing more heat and rain. The rain missed us again yesterday and overnight.
Jackie, and you are wearing fleece! What a difference. Where is your cold weather coming from? I still watch Max Out videos most days and Kerry is taking the dogs for a swim most afternoons as it is hot. Good of you to promise to call the lady back this weekend. If it is a sort of political and/or personality problem, I doubt there is anything to be done. But maybe talking will just be of help. My tour of Wales and Cornwall was interesting. It was actually a lecture with still photos.
Patsy, sorry you lost your post. Thinking of you.
I am doing laundry this morning. I was going to go to the grocery store this morning but I have both the wasp control company and the generator service coming today. It would be manageable but the wasp folks have just said they are coming today, no time frame given. Not even morning or afternoon.
Well, I will do what I can today while waiting.
Be safe everyone.

Happy Wednesday!
It was 74 degrees at 5am…coffee consumed and gym completed. Jean has been doing various household tasks and getting ready to meet her aunt (a beautiful woman who turns 88 in Oct) and 3 of her cousins. Here is a pic of Jean with her aunt circa 2019 and riding a 4-wheeler at age 85) LOL.
Sandy - -That clip might have been for Patsy, but I enjoyed it too. Loved Frasier and reminded me of my sister-in-law in Scottsdale telling me the heat was a bit much for her. Today will be 106 and low 86. I agree on the hot weather vs. rain. It was 74 at 5am and I actually love it – makes sitting on the deck with coffee very serene before the gym or any conversation. Can’t say I watch any new game shows – but I do go back in time via YouTube and catch a Match Game, To Tell the Truth, Hollywood Squares (ah Paul Lynde) etc. From old game shows to weekly shows to entertainment in general, I am always saying to Jean – wow, they wouldn’t get away with that today. Glad comedians are speaking up about so much PC censorship. People need to lighten up…although I have never been a fan of comedians that can only use the “F”; not a prude, but don’t like it overused.
Patsy -- “you don’t miss what you’ve never had.” As with most sayings – very true. I laugh when I think back to the start of the internet and I would download a single photo “while I ate dinner” because it would take that long! The “spinning wheel” can get me annoyed as well and does occasionally happen – more so on my phone when using WiFi. I laugh when I think of how amazed I was the first time I used a fax machine… To be honest, I could easily go back to life pre-internet as long as we kept todays medicine. So many people are “hooked” and can barely carry on a conversation (especially young people). Like you, I often think of the homeless / animals when it is either sweltering hot or ice cold.
Lin – Thanks, but I almost never complain about heat. Even if we have a mild winter the cold can start at the end of November and not end to April. Conversely, it seems the 1st day of summer comers – I blink and it’s labor Day! LOL. Jean was in and out as usual yesterday mostly watering and a bit of clipping. It’s hot/sunny now with T-storms forecasted for the late afternoon.
Glad you enjoyed the small gallery of Goya. I had no idea Goya had Zoom meetings….I love all their products. OK… a bit of lame Latino food humor. I actually do enjoy a good museum visit. I have been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art only twice. The first time was decades ago, but I was blown away. That is one huge place.
Jackie – So true on reality TV and the 15 minutes of fame. Heck, even the news doesn’t seem to have much journalism tied to it nowadays. Every anchor wants to be a star when most only read a teleprompter. Ditto on the documentaries and dramas. Love a lot of British shows and why we subscribe to AcornTV….Grantchester, Foyle’s War, Endeavor, Happy Valley, Line of Duty, Luther… and more! Hope you managed a nice walk today along the moors. .
Have a great day everyone! Bob

Happy Wednesday! Iffy kind of day so instead of pool I am taking Joe for lunch. I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks so he is happy. It is to be a beautiful weekend so I will get all the pool time I need. The handyman for my landlord will come later this afternoon to put in a false bottom in my vanity. He fixed the pipe which by the way only needed a washer that somehow disappeared (I might have lost it when I took pipes apart to clean then and put in a new stopper). But the leak showed me the terrible bottom of vanity and whoever lived here before me put down something that was all moldy when I pulled it out. The bottom seems rotted out and I could really use a new vanity but we all know my landlord won't do that so a false bottom it is. I bought a waterproof liner to put down when he is done. That's my day.
Bob, your meme made me laugh out loud, I love those commercials which they are bringing back. Jean's aunt looks terrific and quite feisty. You should check out Buzzr if you love the old game shows, they are so good. I too, love sitting on my balcony with a glass of wine waiting for my hummingbird to say hello, usually before I start dinner.
Lin, sorry you are trapped in your house waiting for repairmen but hope you find something to keep you busy. We might get rain today but right now the sun is shining so it might be over. It has rained everyday since last Friday so the sun is very welcomed.
Anne, sorry about those broken records and hope you are managing to keep cool.
Jackie, an electric blanket? Wow, what a difference in temps. I hope the sun is out today and you are able to do some gardening.
Patsy, a lost post, the worst. I heard things are cooling down a little in Portland so I hope that is true of you weather as well. Bryanna loves her little neck fan, so I am happy.
Have a wonderful day and stay cool, stay safe and stay healthy.
Sandy

🎶 What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours 🎶. I was up around 6am because George threw himself off the bed and rushed downstairs so I thought he must need to go out. No, it was Brady slipping in through his cat flap and George must have thought he was carrying a mouse. No mouse but George decided as he was up he’d pop outside and while I waited at the door I noticed we had clear skies and much warmer air so I had my shower and breakfast then took a walk round the village. Few people out and about but a lot of traffic.
My hair is cut so once again under control, my car was loaded with cans of paint then I dropped into a supermarket for fresh produce. I’ve eaten far too much of all the wrong things today so will skip an evening meal.
The wife of my shouting neighbour knocked at my door earlier to tell me they are going to put a fence up and didn’t want to upset me so where should they erect it! My response was it’s too late about upsetting me but to just stay off my property. A fence will be good if it’s high enough but if not I’ll attach trellis across the top and plant clematis!
Yesterday’s cold air came from the east Lin so I assume the jet stream is all over the place again. I did see that the north of the UK had much warmer weather which is unusual but great for Max and his family's walks. It appears listening to the lady with problems does cheer her and that’s a start because she has an ME diagnosis but dealing with local authorities run by people I consider control freaks is never easy. All I know is she’s being unfairly treated and that immediately sets me off on a mission! That teapot looks a typical Victorian pattern and style that my aunts and great aunts owned when I was a child. Mass produced so probably still many sitting in cupboards round the country,
Sorry you are suffering with the heat Anne. I’d read that many had died in BC due to the bizarre weather but hadn’t realised it travelled so far in your direction.
More great photos Bob and Jean’s aunt looks full of spirit.
Sandy may have posted while I type then pause to watch a Wimbledon match so I’ll wave. 🙋🏼♀️ Patsy and John too. Stay cool!
A lovely evening so I might get the lawnmower out. Laundry in off the line first.

Good afternoon. We haven't got the heat suffered by the poor souls on the west coast, but when you add the humidity we are in the upper 30s which is more than enough for me! Its a smidgen cooler today and I've actually turned the a/c off for now. The poor old thing ran for almost 3 days non stop. I wore the coolest things I could find. Old tee shirt and pyjama cotton bottoms! Nobody ventured over thank the Lord.
I haven't a whole heap to say today. Struggling with online banking, making grocery lists out etc, the machine doesn't seem to want to cooperate, but I guess its me.
It shows your male neighbour is a coward if he's sending the missus over to explain things JACKIE!
I have to go back to the previous page as I seem to have lost a lot.
Anne.0 -
Exactly my thought Anne. They have been told they were in the wrong by someone but still no apology to me and the Incredible Hulk has had plenty of opportunities. Most bullies are cowards aren’t they!
Humidity is draining so unless you have to, leave the online jobs for another day. ❤️

Another pleasant day with high cloud taking away some heat. An early walk on a different section of moorland so the pooches had new smells to investigate. Home again I hung out washing in the rotary line then drove back to the town I visited yesterday because when I bought paint at the DIY store I made a hasty decision to buy a darker purple for the snug feature wall. Big mistake! It wouldn’t have looked at all good so I swapped the pot with my original choice and headed home.
Coffee on the deck while next door is bereft of builders then a serious clean up in the shower room. Another not very healthy lunch with a bread roll I never usually eat just because they sit on my hips but it needed to be eaten up and I hate to waste food… excuses I know!
My current battle is whether I watch a Wimbledon match or paint woodwork round the new loo. Tennis is winning at the moment!
Thursday already but have an enjoyable one whatever plans have been made.

Well its Canada Day here, but I guess not much going on with a lot of us in shock after the breaking news of unmarked graves of little native children being found. The catholic and the government of the day being the culprits. I simply cannot imagine having my children torn from me to go to one of these residential schools to have their language and nativeness removed, and then maybe die and placed in an unmarked grave with parents not being notified. Absolutely horrifying. I think so far four Catholic Churches have been burnt down on native land under suspicious circumstances.
Having got that off my chest Michael should be arriving soon but I haven't told Bean or she'd be hanging around the back door for half a hour.
Started watching Katla on Netflix. Its an Iceland production and interesting in a disturbing way. I wonder how the plot will unfold and hope its not a damp squib ending!
We are having an Amys marguerita pizza for lunch with a big salad followed by ice cream and I better go start cleaning lettuce, spring onions etc. before my lad arrives.
Hope today is good and not so hot for those suffering.

The temps today feel like a normal summer day here. In the 70s and some clouds drifting here and there. It is so comforting to see the weather behave in a normal way. Our town is totally open now and many are not wearing masks at all. The variants remain on the horizon like a scary monster hiding right around the corner. We are still skittish about our socializing. As the summer progresses I know we will get more comfortable about getting out and about. Our circle is slowly enlarging. Very slowly!
A long time MFP pal and early adopter friend has suggested a new roomba vacuum for me. I know John will be foursquare against it. He would be a very late adopter. But I get to choose my own birthday gift so I will most likely give it a “whirl.” I am looking at iRobot website and having fun looking at the options. The problem here is that we are always in need of vacuuming the floors. We track in pine needles, sand, leaves, dog hair, etc. constantly. Drives me insane! I am hoping for a little help in that regard.
Anne: when I read about those heartbreaking unmarked graves, I had a lump in my chest for hours. Like you I can certainly understand the bitterness and anger towards the church. That old saying “absolute power corrupts absolutely!” Rings true either in religion or politics. The sad thing is that the church does so much good but these horrible things wipe them away from our view.
Jackie: for me, you are at the point where the remodeling effort is now fun. I know there is always a mess created when painting but what a glorious upheaval. There is so much action and reaction in tennis as well as tension. It is not my nature to sit calmly watching any sport. I need to totally become involved. So I am exhausted after watching sports…football, basketball, tennis are my favorites.
Hello and happy Canada Day to you Canadians! Hello and Happy Thursday to you all.
