Hello, my day didnt start off too well but ended up better. This was because after watering, Bean and I set off for a walk and who should we meet but Janice who I haven't seen for ages. Janice was walking a little black dog who was a larger version of Jilly. Is it your dog I asked, no said Janice its my neighbours dog and I would never have a dog like this. Why I asked, because its a male dog replied Janice. He seemed a perfectly nice little dog to me so I asked her if she'd accept Jilly, only because she's female said Janice. That wasn't what made the day go a little downhill though. Janice is convinced the Corvid is all a big government con job orchestrated by a wish to kill us all off. From there we progressed to embalming and what according to J embalmers find in the dead bodies. I won't give you gals nightmares, bad enough I might have one tonight, lol. Just to say that when I finally buzz off I don't want to be embalmed! Memo to self, inform the lads. At this point we excused ourselves, the Bean and I, claiming the heat was making us lightheaded and at 4 pm I am finally recovered from a half hour chat with J. Don't know about Jilly!!! Sounds a bit like your encounter with the man pointing to his head JACKIE!

So other than that a perfectly normal day with no socks in the garden. Maybe whoever lobs them over has run out of socks?

    Yours in wonderland, Anne.❤️

A warm sunny day here. Not too bad on temp, thank goodness. I got a slow start today. Not sure why but I am now somewhat operational.

Since we are facing a few months of financial downturn, I would urge everyone to start a small stock pile of some sort of shelf ready food. Dried beans, rice, things like that to use when we need a nutritional but economical meal. I will keep an extra bag of kibble for Katie. I think it might be a good idea. You gardeners have a good head start on things like that. A trip to the grocery was a new eye opener! It looks like the feds are raising the interest rate a full 100% point. Aaaack!

I am cutting up a ripe pineapple. Wow! The perfume of this fruit makes me want to jump into an airplane and head to Hawaii. We have had several trips there in the past. Not the same now, I guess. But it was bliss on earth when we vacationed there. I even took hula classes.

Anne: remember one of Buzz’s commandments: life is too too short to spend time with toxic people! Jilly is a tiny delight! Our Katie is a big rambucous sweetheart. You know yhat and that poor little boy doggie needs to walk with someone else. Sounds like Janice needs some happy pills or a smack on the head. My family would say…Buck Up! And get busy, Janice! Clean or fix something.

Jackie: I have not heard of mange tout. Your tomatoes look stunning. That is a bumper crop. I could be wrong but I think moving your garden has actually improved the whole enterprise. You have more time to devote to your garden, in between your regular daily tasks.

Sandy: enjoy your night out with the girls.

In the dungeon, looking at a blank canvas that needs a smear of paint!

Wow, look out for tonight’s super moon, it is huge and beautiful, so big I felt I could reach out and touch it!
    m2y45buutevy.jpeg

Not my photo but taken off the BBC website.

Anne, you could be right about similarities between your Janice and Ian who poured out all his woes to me. I remember whenever I bumped into him during lockdowns he would tell me Facebook conspiracy theories about Covid without me ever showing interest in all that nonsense. Perhaps that’s where his stress comes from, believing he’s been microchipped or worse! How odd to be sexist about dogs! I think Patsy is right, the lady has too much time on her hands!

Patsy, you are the 2nd person this week to suggest I gradually build up my store cupboard. Shopping the other morning I bypassed the cans of chopped tomatoes thinking I had a couple in my cupboard but tonight saw on the news Italy is running out of water because no snow fell on the Alps last Winter which in turn means no Spring run off into the rivers. This will double the price of tomatoes and Risotto rice! Hmm, note to self, make my own tomato sauce and freeze!
Leaving the allotments behind was the best thing I could have done because everything I’ve grown so far has been a success whereas we seemed to be constantly fighting the elements, squirrels and mice on our plot down the road. Another simple stir fry tonight with Pak Choi and Russian kale so now I just need to see my scales being kinder, what with all my healthy eating!

An earlier night tonight which should give me a couple of extra hours sleep. When I stepped outside to watch the huge golden rising moon, I was aware of a chilly breeze so perhaps I won’t have to rush out in the morning to avoid the heat.

Good evening. A busy day moving from one thing to the next. I made a trip to the grocery store and purchased quite a number of things, all things that I use, but picked it up if it was on sale today. I was prepared but still ground my teeth a bit when the total came up. This with some items on sale, extra markdown and an extra 10% off for being a Prime member. Also my package of vegan cheese was FREE because the price wouldn’t scan. I didn’t know they had a policy to give ONE item for free if the computer will not scan the price. Guess that’s faster than trying to look it up.

Got home and just put away my groceries when the phone rang. It was my friend who normally calls on Thursday morning. She thought it was Thursday so fine with me, we talked for quite a while as she hadn’t called last week. I was just starting to hang-up when another call came in. A friend I had called much earlier and she was unavailable.

Then a bit of lunch and time to login to a Zoom seminar on corn/soybeans/wheat planted acres and current stocks. The crop in Ukraine will likely all be burned or plowed under as from what these experts said, they could only get $1 per bushel. It is not worth the cost of the petrol to harvest it. Of course, the fields in many areas are full of unexploded bombs so that doesn’t encourage farmers to get back into their machines. Apparently the world will definitely also have a barley shortage as Ukraine is a big supplier in that particular market. Afternthat Zoom call, it was time for the first mixed media seminar.

Surprise, I thought it was going to be about 15 minutes but it was over 45 minutes. And now I have homework. 🤭

I need a trip to the library but that was not to be today but I have books to drop off, others to check out and I received an email saying I won some sort of prize in the summer reading program. I wonder what type of trinket is waiting for me.

Some sad news today as I found out a lady I used to color with at the library and we worked on those plastic sleeping mats for the homeless has died. Her ex-husband who she was best buddies with also colored with us, one of the few men to do so and he passed away in 2020 in his early 60’s. She is not even mid 50’s and there is no information on what happened. Just such sad news and an unhappy shock.

I haven’t gotten my mail yet and need to check on the plants, they may need another sip of water to make it to tomorrow!

Anne, now there is a person to avoid! Much too crazy to carry on a conversation with for long.

Jackie, yippee, happy to hear the snow peas are coming along now. Linda and her family certainly are riled up. Terrible man….! Trying to give people a stroke? Glad you are set up at home now.

Patsy, yes, stocking up is something a lot of people are advocating this year. Problem is the prices are already quite high and the size of the packages and containers continue to shrink. So we can buy more but at some point, we will have to pay the price for whatever we need to purchase. Then some decisions will need to be made. Meanwhile, I have my veggies and I am pleased with those. If it keeps getting hotter and the wind buffets things around, it will be more difficult to raise vegetables. Take care my friend.

Sandy, well, finally, going out with friends. Yippee. A break!! Hope you had a great time.

    Barbie, hi!

Be happy, try to duck the B.A.5………..

Hello, I just got chucked off MFP again...you have been warned. By a fluke I appear to have got back on. Won't linger because loads to do at the moment and its grocery day. Have to say though I have been buying something extra each week to squirrel away in my secret hoard. I have a feeling [shades of Janice] its going to be a long hard winter.
Lets see if I'm still with you!!!!!!!!

Happy Thursday! :) I had a great time with my friends, maybe too great!! Lost in gambling but still had fun. Babe was fine by himself and I didn't get home too late. I am skipping my meeting and therapy today as I did not sleep well and am very tired. I still haven't seen the kiddos since their return and probably won't until Monday for their birthday party. There is just not enough time in a day anymore.

Anne, glad we got to see your post and as far as Janice, don't fall for those conspiracy theories. Some of these people just won't quit and need help. At least no socks, so that is a good day.

Lin, sorry about your coloring friends, so young. Curious as to what your prize will be.

Patsy, I really have no room to stock pile and as long as I can get groceries I am happy. I do have soup though that is easy to store.

Jackie, the moon is beautiful. Talking about weight, mine is just not going down. I just can't seem to get on my bike as much as I want and stress eating isn't helping. Will see what tomorrow or Saturday brings.

Have a good day, I see a nap in my future.

Guess who's having homegrown organic broccoli for dinner tomorrow! My first head is ready for eating and when one realizes that non organic broccoli from the store costs $4 a head here, I'm more than pleased. A couple of beet are ready as well.

I didn't see the moon alas because although we had no rain we had storm clouds blocking him out.

PATSY and LIN I'm stocking up like I said earlier, but not just on food, also on toothpaste and cleaning products, dish detergent and laundry detergent as well. My biggest problem will be the little one. I don't have a freezer so I'm concentrating more on canned food such as salmon, canned veggies etc, and flour for the bread machine, and for pie, muffin making, plus tea, can't do without my cuppa! Eat it all up over the winter and then start over come spring when the living gets hopefully easy!

JACKIE do you think we should introduce the pessimistic Janice to your "friend" Ian? As pen pals, wouldn't they have a glorious time writing to each other about virus's, conspiracies, planets colliding, well you get the picture, they'd find something to worry about. Janice told me that when she advises the folk around her about her theories most put their hands up to shut her up. I'm a bit too English polite to do that, but the poor girl really needs someone to confide in.

Glad you had a great time socializing SANDY. A nice change from doctors and their diabolic machines of torture.

No Mark today. He's on a work course to keep him up to date. MJ who's by herself for once has been sending photos of her veggie plot and flowers etc.

    Anne. Hey where's Barbie?

A sunny day again today. As predicted, we Oregonians are already wringing our hands about wildfires. Rain or sun, we never seem to be satisfied!

As far as stick piling supplies, my thought is the supply chain. Will we get a crink in the supply chain? Maybe, but it also helps when weather is awful to be able to skip to your stock pile and whip up a nice dinner to eat in front of TV and a mystery.

I need to groom Miss Kate again. Warm weather causes those awful mats. I always check for fleas and so far she is okay!

Our yard people never showed up. We are back to tottering along and doing it ourselves. Sort of…at our advanced age, it takes us forever to do anything. But the effort is good for us. Maybe next summer we will find yard people who actually show up to work. Currently, we are losing ground, so to speak. We do one chore and before we finish the next, the first needs redoing. John says we simply cannot afford to die. No one will be able to find this place in all these weeds. So be it!

Costco has no sugar added fudge ice cream bars. 100 calories. Not too bad as a summer forbidden treat. We can earn them by spending a bit of time on the yard. Katie runs happily around out in the back yard as we fuss with out chores. She usually is able to convince one of us into a ball game.

Anne: it seems true that people with an unrelenting dark view of the world are lonely either by circumstances or bad choice. Having another person to share their worries often, little by little, lightens their mood. Of course it is a terrible burden trying to help someone claw their way out of a pit of depression. Sometimes it can’t be done. You were very good to try.

Sandy: happy for you to have had a great evening with friends. I do wish Babe could join in and enjoy socializing as well. This BA 5 variant is just plain scary. Sounds like he is alone a lot. (?) Good to be cautious these days. But but the poor man seems to have a lot of sadness, that cannot be healthy for him.

I am ready to attack the window screen that is dusty and covered in spider webs. Part of my never ending battle with spiders. I am losing the war and most of the battles.

    Hello Sneakers

I did get to the library this morning, returned books, checked out books and picked up my prize. The idea of it was wonderful, the reality less exciting. Have a general admission ticket to a baseball game in August. I think I will return it to the library for someone who could use an extra ticket. I also have a certificate for a free book or magazine in the sales area.

I watched the second video in the 3-day art series which lasted a bit over an hour. Very interesting and I am learning a few things. Last learning opportunity tomorrow with a wrap-up session on Saturday.

My friend called this afternoon and we talked for hours. She had been to the county fair where her niece’s daughter showed her dog and got Reserve Grand Champion. Lots to talk about. They had a founder’s day celebration last weekend stand she said the parade went on for almost 2 hours! How can a small town have that much to show off? Anyway, lovely conversation.

In my world, the plants need watering again. I picked a few green beans this morning, a few radishes and some lettuce. Exciting to look outside with both a hummingbird for a while flitting around and this afternoon a black swallowtail butterfly. It is beautiful and I haven’t seen one for years. I hope it returns.

Patsy, busy days for you! I am sorry your yard workers did not show up. No call, nothing? Good grief!!

Anne, wow, broccoli! Delicious. I am sure you will enjoy it! And some beets which I know you love. Do you eat the greens as well. I saw a recipe where you cook the whole thing together, not the greens separate from the beet. Seems to me that timing the cooking would be difficult. I looked into getting a better deal on my coffee where you purchase 4 lbs. at a time rather than 2 lbs. but I don’t think I will do that. You don’t get 4 one lb. bags but 2 two lb. bags. I wouldn’t want to open 2 lbs at a time. It might go stale and storing the larger bags would be an issue in the freezer. But never say never right? It sounds as if you are stocking up quite well indeed.

Sandy, did you get a nap today? Glad you had so much fun. And also very glad Babe was fine while you were out!

Be safe everyone. We might get rain tomorrow morning. That would be great!

Good morning! Yesterday was a busy one and a gentle cool breeze helped whenever I was outside. A quick call from Linda while she waited for 2 rear tyres on her car to be replaced so it wasn’t always easy to hear but she did sound brighter and told me her first day on her own and she was managing mentally. Solid plans have been made to clear her plot so she will tell the council she will be gone by next Wednesday although I did remind her that Mr Nasty ignored my agreed final date! I’ve eggs and veggies galore so only have to pick up George’s frozen raw chicken and lamb blocks from the farm supply store and will also take a couple of items to the tip that isn’t much further away.
This morning’s walk was fun with George running zoomies with pieces of dry sheep poo in his mouth. Betty stays a couple of paces behind me when he acts crazy! We met Heather with Bella halfway round and she mentioned she had seen David with a beautifully groomed Hattie in the week who was going to give her Debbie Woof Woof’s phone number for friends who have an older Labradoodle that she feels is being neglected. It’s claws curl under its feet and curly coat is thick and matted even though she keeps reminding them to get a groomer in. She is visiting them today so I walked with her to her vehicle that was in a different car park to mine so she could take Debbie’s phone number from me in the good old fashioned way of pen and paper!
A distant cousin emailed last night to let me know her mother had passed away at the weekend after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis that came to late for treatment. Our NHS is falling apart while politicians battle each other but I suppose nothing new there! She has asked me to let an aunt know because the email she sent came back undelivered. Hopefully I’ll have better luck or I can phone her.

Bedding was washed overnight and already dry on the line so I’ll potter for a couple of hours in the garden until it gets too hot.

Anne, I do believe Facebook is the main cause of depression and psychological fears today with its users winding each other up. My English politeness goes out the window if anyone talks about the latest conspiracy. I gather we are living on a flat planet so mind you don’t fall off the edge! 🤭. I watched an amazing BBC documentary about the James Webb space telescope last night that was mind blowing when they talked billions of miles and light years. Our home is the tiniest spec in comparison!

Patsy, how annoying that the new company didn’t arrive for their appointment. I can’t say it doesn’t happen here but it’s rare.

MFP is driving me crazy pushing quick links up from the bottom of the page and covering lines of type.

Sandy and Lin are down there somewhere!!

Sandy, I was typing about weight. No real stress for me but I do think fluid retention doesn’t help, plus the occasional choc ice! I’ll weigh in the morning.

Ignore anything below my name. 🤔
    Jackie

Sandy, usually, my weight is at its lowest this time of year

Quick note before I start my day. JACKIE I saw the James Webb telescope program and indeed mind blowing. We are so small and insignificant of course that we can't be seen way out there and that's rather humbling. We're not even dots or microbes. We sort of don't exist and yet here on planet earth we think we are all important.
Which reminds me did you see the video on BBC of the baby elephant who fell in a pit followed by mama who was trying to rescue the little thing. In Thailand and a happy ending but it still brought tears to my eyes. Stories like that remind me that there are more decent, caring humans on earth than the other lot who get all the attention.

Love to all, Anne and Jilly Bean.❤️

This was a sort of explanation of the planets and universe.

    Augustus de Morgan:

Great fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em
And little fleas have lesser fleas and so ad infinitum
And the great fleas themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on.
While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.

My mind sort of explodes when I think of the possibilities of the universe going on and on forever.

Phew. must have a coffee and think gardening etc instead.

Happy Friday! :) Feeling much better today, got a good night's sleep. Laundry is started and it is raining so a good day to stay in. Hopefully the weekend is good and I can relax at the pool. Robby's 8th and Charlie's 4th birthday parties are Monday and it will be an outdoor movie night so hope the weather co-operates. Babe will not go, it will be too long for him with all those kids.

Anne, your description of outer space is amazing, here we are just a speck in the sky with thousands of crazy creatures. I did see that video of the baby elephant and also teared up. I really believe there are more good people in this world than bad but the bad are all we hear about.

Jackie, you had a busy morning and are the person people want to talk too. You are level headed and headstrong so you are a good friend. I am sorry about your distant aunt who passed and hope you can reach the other aunt to inform her.

Lin, do you honestly talk for hours? I hate talking on the phone, most of my conversations are by text.
There are couple of people I talk to but briefly, like Joe or my SIL in Arizona. I talked for hours when I was a kid but not so much now.

Patsy, Babe is invited to all things I am but prefers to stay home. I am trying to get him a little stronger so he can at least go to lunch or dinner. The dizziness is really hard on him so we have to take it one day at a time to see how he feels each morning. He has never been the most social guy nothing like me, I like everyone. (Almost)

Have a good day and keep staying healthy.

Dry warm sunny day but muggy! The fans are blowing air around here inside. I think John will still want his regular Friday night cauliflower pizza. One of his many favorites.

I also saw the James Webb documentary. I feel we are very significant considering we seem to be the main planet with diverse species and our neighbor planets don’t seem to have anyone at home…so to speak. I keep looking toward the skies hoping to see a UFO. It would thrill me. Damon and his sailing crew have seen some unexplainable light displays. Absolutely perplexing. The JamesWebb telescope really confirms that there are wonderful things to discover out there.

Jackie: wow! A neglected labradoodle! That is an outright emergency. Labradoodle hair and nails grow at an alarming rate! Katie is groomed once a month. That includes a nip of the toenails. Sometimes I use special doggie shampoo wipes and sometimes we do the shower. With Katie the shower is dangerous and the cleanup after is significant. But there are times when it must be done. There is no mobile grooming person here. I went to Petsmart and watched as they groomed. That will never work for Kate. I hope that poor doggie gets some help. Isn’t it sad about people who get pets but can’t manage the regular care needed. Note here….grooming a pet can be such a nice bonding experience. As I brush Katie, we talk and she responds by giving me tiny licking kisses. She even croons softly when I brush her tummy and her throat area. A lovely time with a best friend.

Time to sweep the kitchen and mop that floor.

Good afternoon. Darn hot today! Plants do a daily wilting thing now. Just too much for them. Wish I had a shady place for them. I remember some smaller green houses when I was a kid, they had summer sun shades and exhaust fans. Full sun isn’t always the best.

I had some green beans and a tiny potato as part of my lunch. Very good!

Watched the last workshop lesson today. The instructor created a mixed media canvas in a sped up video. I still shudder from time to time as elements that I liked would be ripped off the canvas or painted over or paint drips would flow down an area and sometimes she blotted some of it away, other times she left it to dry and I thought the area didn’t look very good with wide stripes of white paint from top to bottom of the canvas when she was working the piece in grids, 3 high, 3 wide. She is great at using many different supplies, pencil, collage paper, different types of fiber, acrylic paint, acrylic ink, Pitt pens, water soluble Neo colors, alcohol ink, and more and it all worked together well. Colors muted and blended well. Any color that seemed intense or bright was immediately addressed and she found ways to bring it back to her preferred color palette.

So an ending meeting tomorrow morning. She wants to sell spots in her longer painting course and I have already looked over the objectives, projects, etc. and I will not be signing up. It was interesting though and she will leave the videos up for one additional week before removing them.

I have been corresponding via Facebook Messenger with several friends today, no telephone calls. 😄

And yes Sandy, I often speak to a friend for more than an hour. It’s not like we keep in close touch daily or multiple times a week so there can be lots to catch up with. I look at my phone when I disconnect and the duration is usually an hour or more. Yesterday it was 1 hour 45 minutes. I detest writing very long emails but I will do that from time to time. I like the give and take of actual conversation. How long are your Zoom calls?

Patsy, your weather sounds nice today although work spoils that a bit. 😄🌻🌻 Are you having some type of birthday celebration? Do you get to choose the menu and the movie? Wish I could send you some flowers and a fresh fruit bouquet. Be safe.

Jackie, a nice morning although George running about with dry sheep poo isn’t very appealing to me! Hope you were able to pick up the chicken and lamb supply for George. So lots of eggs. That is nice. Glad Linda is doing better. And happy you have loads of vegetables!

Anne, did you get to the garden store the other day for potting soil and pots? Glad there have been no more sock deliveries. Either of the boys coming over this weekend?

Take care everyone. A friend told me on a really long Messenger post that she and her husband were exposed to Covid this past Wednesday helping out with a kiddie program. I kind of wonder how they knew someone was ill so quickly. They have their fingers crossed right now.

    Be safe, be happy.

Debbie Woof Woof messaged this afternoon to offer Whiskas cat food pouches for Brady so I imagine one of her clients has lost their furry friend. I responded that I had passed her number on to Heather but apparently an appointment has already been made to clip the Labradoodle’s nails tomorrow. She is gentle and so caring, I know she will persuade the owners to do what’s best for the pet that’s apparently been with them 12 years. Heather worries they are both losing it!
George and Betty love to be groomed although it took a couple of years before George fully cooperated. The doggy shampoo I use is more expensive than my own and doesn’t that say it all!
As for James Webb, how does a small group of people begin to imagine its design, never mind how to open up those mirrors to the millimetre when it’s a million miles away?
Patsy, I often study the night sky while my pooches have a last sniff round my garden before bed and would love to spot a UFO just to confirm we aren’t alone in the endless space. With no street lights to spoil the view, I can see thousands of stars and the occasional satellite.
Yes Anne, I did see the elephant rescue and loved how the team literally jumped on mum to get her heart going again. What a tear jerker which alone proves how complex we humans are. Love the great fleas with their little fleas!

    Bedtime.

Well guess what I had with my lunch. My very first Beetroot and it was delicious!

Its very hot again and Jilly and I didnt venture very far on our walk this morning. I can't imagine what its like in England JACKIE, especially with air conditioners being almost non existent. I noticed that York and our last home, Derbyshire, is in the predicted heat spots.

Mark and Mary Jo came over this morning to do some measuring before he bought more wood for the bedroom closet and a much bigger kitchen pantry than before. MJ was wearing a very becoming straw hat and we went in the garden to peer at my veggies and it seems overnight I've got dozens and dozens of baby tomatoes. Loads of chutney in our future. Told MJ to buy MORE jars NOW before they get sold out by Autumn with other chutney makers.

Hate to be a downer but I feel we are the only planet supporting life. A sheer fluke with all the conditions being right, distance from our sun, etc.
And even if there was more life on distant
worlds at what stage of evolution are they at? I can't see a brontosaurus flying a space machine to visit. One theory is we are in a black hole so can only see as far as our own galaxy.

When I was younger I wrote a story about our planet earth being a minute malignant cell in a giants [to us] body. As we got cleverer and shot off into what to us was "space" so we grew and spread and eventually destroyed our host and of course ourselves. However this proved too depressing for my normally optimistic self and it was chucked out with the garbage, .....but.....you never know!
I'm always amazed that the root and vein system of leaves and trees are exactly the same as our own
veins. Everything seems to be connected and its so frustrating to be a gal of little brain to fathom things out. How even more frustrating for the clever folk!

So, back to being ordinary Anne hobbling along with her faithful hound.

Cheers everybody, I think I need a sherry after writing all that c..p, lol. and so maybe do you dear girls.
    Anne. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Well! A cheery sunny day, a Goldilocks kind of day. Not too hot-not to cold! Just right!

Thank you dearest sweet sneakers for those birthday wishes. I got my dearest wish when out of the blue…I hooked up with you. You do feel like a cross between family and friends. We have been together for a few years now. This forum is my life saver. So many friends and family have passed now. I don’t have the regular chats with family. They are very busy, thank goodness. I appreciate your sharing your life with me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We are planning a small dinner with just the two of us. Phone calls with our kids. Many kisses from Katie as I share a piece of salmon. Don’t we love to spoil our fur babies? I am going to see if I can actually have a person to person visit with our daughter. Andrea unfortunately scoots around town a lot. She wears a mask infrequently. If she tests before she comes I would be okay with that.
John worries about that BA-5. I think we are just about ready to have a state mask mandate. We are at that point. So a low key birthday. That’s okay. I enjoy just getting in touch with everyone.

The JamesWebb telescope tells me that there are many planets out there with life of some sort. If it has an atmosphere and a gravity, the creatures will be symmetrical . Some will be advanced, some need a few more years to catch up. I am thrilled at the amazing possibilities. Not necessary for them to breathe oxygen or depend on water. They may like ammonia instead. These differences could be the reason we don’t visit all that often.

Good evening everyone. Yes Anne, it is quite warm!! I did manage to get George and Betty up to the moors by 7.30 but could already feel muggy air enveloping us. Lots of horses have moved down to the local village where there is more likelihood of finding water but as we walked from my car to higher ground a rather pushy mare clip-clopped behind us as if she thought I knew where to find shade. Behind her were several other mares with their foals so I had to pick up speed to shake them off rather than risk George and Betty getting hurt. There was a slight breeze across the top so George felt able to run zoomies while Betty puffed along behind me. We met David walking from the opposite direction with Hattie, who has been groomed and lost her heavy coat… just in time.
I had breakfast under the parasol and sipped coffee but all the pets sensibly stayed in the cool cottage. I have managed a few gardening jobs in shady areas but so far, today in Cornwall it hasn’t been much hotter than 25c in the shade but understand late tomorrow we could gain another 10c, then it will be uncomfortable!
Debbie Woof Woof brought the promised cat food for Brady and as I had guessed, a cat belonging to one of her clients disappeared in April and she had been hoping it would turn up safe and well. It’s heartbreaking when they disappear and leave no clues.

Anne, there was a tv debate on last night with the final 5 hopefuls wanting to replace Boris and according to a poll of viewers Tom Tugendhat came out on top. Straight talking and no waffle is a breath of fresh air so what a shame the public don’t get a say!
I agree it would be amazing if another civilisation was formed millions of miles away purely because planets, a moon and sun aligned themselves. The more that gets discovered through DNA, the more the miracle of creation impresses me.

I picked my first cucumber this evening and am still enjoying the kale and lettuce leaves. It feels cool enough to water now so I’ll get myself organised.. water butts are empty so it will have to be mains water.
A small M&S order arrived this afternoon with a pack of sensible cotton knickers and 2 cotton short sleeved tops. Also a rather scary bra that in reality looks as if it could swallow me up! What was I thinking?

Patsy, your day is just starting so I do hope you have a wonderful time. I’m guessing a huge bouquet of flowers will be a part of the celebrations. ❤️

JACKIE, Wouldn't it be amazing if Tom Tugendhat came out on top after all the hoopla about Sunak, Truss and Mordaunt. I still fancy him with his knowledge of the Middle East and his English and French background. Plus his personality is apparently the opposite of Boris and his big foot! Personalities are great but I think the old country needs a sensible sober sides right now.

Hope you and the pets manage to keep cool in the next few days. I told Mark off because his garden shed is sinking and he was going home to hoist it up again. He had heat stroke in England twice as a small boy doing gym at school and had to be rushed home, and once again in Newquay. He takes after my Mom with his very fair skin. Mike meanwhile has had to work the last two days. His fellow manager was removed to another Job and wouldn't you guess, now alone, business picked up and he is swamped. Me and Bean are keeping cool indoors with the a/c blasting away. I dread my electricity bill because I received my gas bill today and my eyes bulged when I saw the huge increase approved by our government! Oh well its only money....while it lasts!

Good evening. Hoping Patsy is having a good day with happy things coming her way!

I read that parts of England will be up to 40 degrees C. Wow!! That is scorching hot. Perhaps your area will not see that insanely high temperature Jackie? Maybe the horses will follow you home for a pail of water! I am sure you would oblige them. 😁

Anne, glad you and the Bean are getting along in the air conditioned house. Congrats on the yummy beet(s).

Sandy, how was your weather today? We have been overcast most of the day and the temperature is in the very low 80’s.

Barbie, hello, hope all is well at your home.

Nothing at all interesting here today. Watched the closing presentation for that class I have been watching. Did a ‘blog’ hop on Instagram today for a lady who designs delightful stamp sets and pretty much runs her business single-handed. Her design team surprised her with all this attention and she was flabbergasted. So I joined it, very unusual for me. Kind of fun.

I dug around and found some paint I purchased before all of this started. I had never opened either of the bottles. Both were blue of course. I had also found a half finished work from an old summer program. One of the paint containers was totally solid. It was like a chunk of thick Jello. 😄 The other one was fun so I played with that for a while. Now waiting for paint to dry! 🤭

Be careful everyone. Keep celebrating Patsy. 🎉🎁🎉

Good morning. A warm night and disturbed sleep because Betty was unwell in the very early hours has me feeling slightly jaded. I got myself up just after 6.30 so our doggy walk could be a cool one, then took them round the block. Another horse incident, this time a young rider appearing behind us that made George very nervous, in fact he hid behind a bush! Horse with its rider had barely passed when it refused to go on so I then tried to walk past but George said no way! In the end the young lady hopped off and slowly walked her horse on telling it gently to follow mummy and it would be alright!
At the moment there is a pleasant breeze so with coffee finished I’m going to muck out the hen house and top up their water dispenser that they seem to be emptying on a daily basis in the heat. After that task is completed I will probably stay indoors, as much to encourage George and Betty to rest in the cool. These old cottages with their 18” thick solid stone walls are well designed to keep heat out in this sort of weather but in during the winter months. Those Victorian designers knew what they were doing!

Anne, I’ve just watched Tom Tugendhat on a live politics programme who must have swung the whole country behind him, his impressive performance was so steady and honest. A lovely smile too! What a shame it will be down to a few grumpy old men!! I do hope Mark’s sinking shed can be saved and it is only the shed, not the ground beneath that’s collapsing!

Patsy, we posted at the exact same time so I missed yours until this morning. Dinner for three sounded perfect, especially the Katie kisses part! When groomer Debbie dropped off the cat food for Brady she told me she had visited the Labradoodle and clipped his nails but could see that several volunteers had clipped what they could from his coat but left it in an untidy state so she offered to go back later as she had a gap between clients. Sadly, they declined the offer but Debbie agrees with Heather’s observation that they are both dealing with dementia. Thank goodness they have friends to watch out for them and the dog because family live far away and don’t appear interested!

A fabulous tea set Lin, as ever! Can you dilute your blue jelly paint with water or spirit? I wouldn’t give up without a fight!
In Cornwall we are in an Amber warning area thank goodness and the red area is a hundred or so miles away. I must check on my brother Bernie in Spain because I know forest fires aren’t too far away.

Hello to Sandy and Barbie. Now I had better get that mucking out job done because I can hear the chooks shouting about the eggs they’ve already laid!!

    Happy Sunday.
    Jackie 🥰

I'm rushing about because Mike is coming over real early because he likes to see Jilly and he's been invited to the barbecue lunch and swim at his apartment building. So he will leave here at 11 and I don't blame him. I'm green with envy. W ho can resist a barbecue and swim on another hot day.

I too had a disturbed night JACKIE. I was dreaming I couldn't breathe and woke up to find I actually couldn't!! Wandered around a bit, opened all windows and finally slept like a baby on the sofa with the Bean cuddled up next to me.

I instinctively felt Tom Tugendhat was a decent man Jackie, but often its the ruthless ones who get the prize. Nevertheless I will send positive thoughts across the pond and keep my fingers crossed.

Well, better get moving before Mike arrives, IF he doesn't sleep in on his one day off this week. Very possible. Oh and Marks shed is on a sort of hill at the back of their garden. Its sort of on a slant as the ground settles I think.

Happy Sunday! :) Finished watching Mass and hoping for some sunshine. Rain is predicted for most of the day but I am hoping they are wrong. Otherwise I am going to try and clean my couches. I was going to try to wash the fabric covers on cushions but decided they are too old and would probably fall apart.
They need a good vacuuming as well. We are going to get new couches but I would like to donate these to charity but want them to look good or they won't take them. Will also be making a pork roast for dinner so we have leftovers for tomorrow or more.
It was great seeing everyone yesterday but it was hectic with 6 kids under the age of 8 running around.
It was better Babe went to his DIL and had dinner and watched the baseball game with them.
Tomorrow night is the movie night birthday party which will be held in the yard with their big blow up screen. I probably won't get home until after 11pm so Babe is staying home and I don't blame him.
I have to get back into the swing of sitting again, I am out of practice. lol

    Have a good day everyone.

One of those afternoons with a little bit of gardening in a shady spot then indoors to rehydrate! My bedroom carpet has been scrubbed where Betty was sick in the night so once dry I can vacuum, probably in the morning. YouTube has some fascinating videos to watch and I’ve followed an articulate Russian businessman’s take on what’s happening to ordinary people doing their best to survive. Will anything change? He thinks not because his leaders don’t give a fig!
When I cleaned the hen house I discovered their water dispenser was playing up so refilled it and left to see if it would hold the water. Apparently not so late this afternoon I worked out a new long cord to tie to the old apple tree to hang it on inside their run that should stop it tipping out precious water. Suddenly a threatening cloud appeared from nowhere, rumbled thunder then gave us less than one minute of hefty spots of rain. Not even enough to cover the ground and once it moved away and the sun returned I realised the truly hot temperatures have arrived! The pets are layed out on the tiled floor while I contemplate joining them! At least my appetite has been snuffed out so I might yet lose some weight. No change yesterday Sandy but I live in hope!

Another political debate this evening Anne but you are right, dirty tricks abound! Instead of watching I will water peas and mange tout, then there are the French beans! The cucumber is delicious and I’ve already got a 2nd waiting to be picked!

A new BBC drama tonight based in Scotland that is supposed to be excellent so I might give it a go!

A radio presenter just read this, new to me, poem

Sun, dear sun, that brings the day,
What a friend in work and play,
What a friend to every one—
Dear, big, glad, round, shining sun,
What a good bright world you make—
Is it for the children's sake?
    😆🤣😅
