Hello dear sweet sneakers. We have high thin clouds that will disappear quite soon. I think it might get a bit muggy and warm today. But as it happens, my diabetic ulcer on my heel is showing me a thing or two. John and I have a procedure learned by the podiatrist to get things going in the right direction until I can get into see the wound care specialist. This is one of life’s little hiccups! One must never take things for granted. Lean in and get it done!
My birthday was very pleasant. John found a couple of small servings of tiramisu that was unusually decadent and delicious as a birthday cake. As usual that old sweetheart had delivered a huge flower bouquet. He confessed that he enjoys seeing the flowers on the dining room table as much as I do. As a lovely “remembering back” conversation, we remembered living in Anchorage, Alaska and being so tired of the cold dark winter. We would go to the small botanical garden there and just sit on one of the garden benches for hours.
Lin: I understand about paint. I almost sob as I have to discard tubes or small pots of paint. Guilt and sorrow for unfinished goals and lovely paints wasted. I did use some dried up paint in a sculpture once. I pealed a tube of wonderful gold paint carved and used as an addition to an assemblage.
Jackie: the thing about horses that always upset me, bad weather or other natural disaster requires being able to move creatures to safety. Large animals are a problem. We used to try to move all our animals to safety when I lived on the ranch. But in truth, it was not wholly successful. My practice now is to not have creatures that I can’t protect as best I can in times of great stress.
Anne: we must remind our grown children that they are only human, after all. Ask them gently to consider their health and well-being. Or YOU will be very upset. Seriously upset! They really do not want that!!!!!
Sandy, sounds to me like you have been quite busy and you will be always thinking of things to do and people to see. I always have my nose in a book. Or answering an email, sketching an idea, our brains never rest. Thank goodness!

Birthday bouquet from dear John. It almost made me forget my advanced age.

GORGEOUS FLOWERS PATSY. Hang on to the dear man!
Oh boy, I can't resist JACKIE!
To the radio presenter.
Sun, dear sun that brings the heat,
And itchy rashes on my feet,
Not such a friend to everyone,
With squinty eyes and nose well done,
Turn down heat that bakes and bakes
Let in the rain to fill the lakes.
Kids love to run through little showers
That give a drink to thirsty flowers.
I better go before I blow it,
'Cos I'm a poet and did not know it!
❤️Anne, hastily written with tongue in cheek.

Good afternoon.
Patsy, a lovely day for your birthday and fabulous flowers! Oh, they are wonderful!! Thanks for sharing a picture of them. ❤️
Jackie, so sorry Betty was unwell last night. I hope tonight will be better. Your veggies are coming along well. I picked my few green beans again today and had them for lunch with some cherry tomatoes. Small portions but tasty! I expect a lot from such small pots of plants. 🙃 I was hoping to find another potato near the surface but darn, nothing. I am hungry for another fresh little spud. 🤞🏻 One of these days. I am glad you are not expecting the extremely high temperatures. And I hope the chix continue to get enough water.
Sandy, it sounds like a good plan for tomorrow. Babe going one way, and you another. Both of you will be happy with your choice. How is Babe doing? Bandage gone now?
Anne, it is nice that Mike got up early to visit you and Jilly before rushing back to barbecue and pool party. Some fun for everyone.
The paint has been tossed. It is not a great loss, I purchased it on deep discount many years ago. I think it was actually discontinued by the manufacturer. I have tried to save various products that have dried up between uses. It is usually not a very productive use of time. And who needs another frustration.
Grantchester on PBS this evening. I wish there were additional episodes of Endeavor.
Back to my little projects.

Haha Anne, that’s karma! 😁
I’ve had a quiet day after walking round the block with George and Betty before 7am followed by a trip to the supermarket for fresh fruit and veggies. I did manage to eat my breakfast and sip coffee under the parasol but was soon driven indoors as much to encourage the pets to stay out of the heat. We’ve averaged 35C which is just below 100F so I caught up with emails then had a light lunch. My aunt had received mine telling her about the family loss and responded with lots of news so I did much the same back. George has been very sensible resting for most of the day but dear Betty is struggling, finding it difficult to settle and that’s heating her up even more. Before it gets dark I will stroll outside and hopefully cool her off before bedtime.
Lin, I hope you find yourself another spud to enjoy! My pea pods are well formed but without rain the peas themselves won’t develop.
Not much else to report except the MFP page continues to play up blocking my view of what I’m typing so I won’t hang around.
Tom has been voted off Anne and I think that’s a big mistake. The man ahead in the race is a multi millionaire with a green card to work in America so he won’t hang around if the going gets tough!
Hello everyone else!
Jackie 🥰0 -
I know JACKIE. I'm so sorry he's out of it and as I can't stand Sunak and not that keen on the three ladies I'm out of it as well. Plus his wife was in the cloudy tax evasion reports. All very murky which means a Labour Government soon I guess. Weren't the taunts between him and Truss utterly childish. I think the pandemic and heat is addling peoples brains.
We had a months rain overnight and the rain succeeded in knocking an outer broccoli over. Otherwise everything else looks good. However, we are joining you in a hot humid heatwave tomorrow. Poor little Betty, she isn't built for heatwaves. Poor Bean as well who won't be going far. With her black fur she attracts the heat and her very favourite thing is a walkie sniff.
I shall go and drown my sorrow in a cuppa.
Poor old country,
Anne.0 -
Partly cloudy and blessedly cool. Our ugly heat is to come later this week I understand. Bleck.
Jackie: Katie gets very hot and also sick with the heat. I put an ice cube in her water dish but I must chip it up or she will try to eat it and I fear she might accidentally swallow a big ice cube.
I confess to being totally confused about UK politics. Ours here is very confusing and we seem intent on twisting things around. What will we look like after the next election? Scary thought.
Anne: Canadian politics are also unique. Not quite the same as the UK, but sort of similar. Then there is Quebec! Hummmmmm? Your poem brought rain? We desperately need a copy for our western water problem. Lakes and rivers are disappearing. Wildfires are gobbling up our forests and towns.
Sandy: you must have really good health insurance! Our insurance gives us a number to call. We speak to nurse (?) who usually has some strange study that says whatever we want is totally
unnecessary. Tooth cleaning twice a year, one physical, an operation if we are dying. Acouple of other tests and that’s about it. I will not even scare you with the costs.
Lin: we are still plowing through Monk. Some episode are wonderful and are pretty much a waste. I guess that is to be expected. We can’t hit a home run every time. I like Grantchester but John isn’t interested at all. We limit our TV to an hour or a little more at night. John is very strange about TV watching. He doesn’t like watching alone! Odd?
They say rents are slowly inching down as well as gas. Still appallingly expensive. We are able to adjust our expenditures without too much drama. I must cook more and plan meals a bit more carefully. I still need to find those drapes that help with heat and cold coming in the windows. We have double pane Anderson windows but more could be done in that regard.
Bless your little hearts, dear sneakers!
Patsy☘️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘0 -
I was writing a post and zap, it disappeared.
Back and just saying, it is hot, my poor veggies look quite unhappy, I am working on card bits and pieces and I plan to stay at home and indoors a lot this week.
I know little about British politics. Sorry. No opinions.
Grantchester was not particularly enjoyable last evening. Will feast on re-runs again. 😁
Stay safe everyone. Hopefully I will have something to offer to the conversation tomorrow.

Good morning sneakers friends. The good news is a thunder storm is rumbling in the distance, a pleasant breeze has picked up and we’ve had about 30 seconds of raindrops! Best of all, both Betty and George have been drinking water which yesterday they refused to do so what with her being sick, I was so worried Betty would expire. A walk is out for now while we wait to see if dark clouds building out to sea come in my direction.
Patsy, considering we live in a democratic country our political system is to say the least, decidedly unfair at times. Simply put, Boris refused to resign as Prime Minister but instead stepped down as leader of his party. This means he hangs on while votes take place to replace the party leader who then automatically becomes Prime Minister so Boris walks away pretending he’s clean as a whistle and spends his last few weeks enjoying what we call jollies! The electorate doesn’t get to vote for party leaders! 😠😤
The hospital dealing with my dermatology appointments has phoned with an automatic system to book my next appointment and when it first told me there was a waiting time I thought it said 60 minutes but when it dropped to 15 minutes I realised I’d misheard. It’s now down to 7 minutes so I’m almost there…. Hooray, a human jumped in at 6 minutes and I’m booked in on August 17th. It seems the 3 monthly checks that had jumped up to over 6 have returned to the original which must mean waiting lists are falling.
Lin, Three old tyres were left on my allotment plot that, if I had seen your teapot while still there,I could have painted in cheery colours. That would have annoyed Mr Nasty! 😆
The sky is darkening so I’ve brought in a tray of Love in the Mist seed heads that were drying in the sun and covered bags of firewood with a tarpaulin. George is barking in the garden and hens shouting to herald the rumbling storm!
Happy Tuesday everyone. I’ll go before we get any power cuts!
Jackie 🥰⚡️⛈⚡️0 -
Just taken Bean for a walk whilst its still relatively cool. 32C later today, but the humidity still had me mopping my brow. Then I cut some broccoli for lunch and we galloped back inside to draw curtains and blinds against the sun.
Not sure PATSY but I think most of the commonwealth countries have the same parliamentary system as Britain. Its democratic and relatively simple compared to the States. I still haven't quite mastered the American system. Boris getting chucked out from being head of his party - conservative - is very unusual but Jackie's done a good job explaining what happened. Like she explained, his party get to vote on their new leader and not us lot, the general public, who think they are all a bunch of twits anyway. Our chance comes when its general election time and we can vote in another party and its leader.
Its so simple and so hard to explain. I was taught at school when the government had a captive audience.

The broccoli is SO much better than the bought! Must grow more next year if I'm still around!
41 degree heat in the UK has fires breaking out in several places in the city of London. This is really serious. Maybe world leaders will finally wake up!
Whoops. Mark just phoned to say MJ has to have blood work done and would I like to get mine done at the same time. Not really! but I guess I will have to go sooner or later!

Happy Tuesday! Getting ready to leave for my mammogram but wanted to say good morning.
Party was a great success, everyone had fun. Talk to you later or tomorrow.
Have a good day.

Another summer day here. Cloudless and warm! I can see I will be inside do whatever I can to stay cool.
Tonight will be a dinner salad. I have a ripe avocado to slice in the salad and I am sure John will start demanding some chicken or salmon in among all that lettuce.
Talked to Damon about his weekend sail. This is why mothers go gray and have sleepless nights. The radar on the tall mast came loose in the wind and ripped the smaller sail. That wind also was pushing the boat toward the drawbridge. The bridge was not open. Damon was able to maneuver the boat back to the marina. Now he needs to get into a Bosons chair and be hoisted 30 ft. In the air to reattach the radar and he will have to take the sail down and mend it. He has some friends to help but they are not as skilled as Damon. The term able-bodied seaman is a real qualifier. For a guy who was born and raised in the colorado mountain ski country, this is an odd hobby.
I decided to try mixed media on my pandemic-climate crisis-inflation-Ukrainian war painting series. It is an effort that might help me let go of a bit of anxiety. My family is confused and wonder why I do what I do. I worry and wring my hands over these issues that I have no input or control. And just to make a point here, I can’t just forget about it. I have tried. So I will paint a scary painting about it.
Jackie: Damon says his dogs used to get get very hot and sick in the summer. He had a plant mister that he would use to mist the dogs, he would squirt them in their face and tummy and on their feet. They stood in front of a room fan after being misted. His dog Runtie got very heat sick and Damon even refrigerated her water and a cool towel for her. He misted his old black feral cats also. They even liked it. And Those cats didn’t like much of anything. Totally disagreeable animals. They simply refused to become domesticated.
Anne and Jackie: our political system was based on yours. As you can see, very similar…but different. Anne, dear friend, we call the nurse who takes the vials of our blood for testing the Dracula lady. She is cute and has heard it hundreds of times. She smiles behind a mask.
Lin: wonderful teapot-planted.
Sandy: adorable photo of you and your grands. Cute outfit you are wearing. In fact all of you look cute.

We beat Scotland in temperature today. 35C feeling like 42.
I got the blood drawn. This girl wasn't as good as the previous one. It quite hurt.
My gas bill has gone up to $127 a month on equal billing. A raise of $50 a month. Mark questioned it but it appears to be right.
And thats me done for the day.
Anne.0 -
In the end we didn’t get much rain and thunder rumbled from some distance so disappointing. Once it cleared I took the pooches for a short walk before the sun became too hot to be out in it. In an effort to lose some weight I have swapped meals round so will now make lunch my main one. Lots of salad being consumed and like Patsy and John, I mix in something extra to break up the monotony of lettuce!
To help Betty and George deal with the heat I dip a flannel in cold water then wipe their faces and cool their heads and it does cheer them up.
Jackie 🥰

Hello friends. A hot and windy day here today. I ordered a few groceries for delivery. Unpacked some small packages I received yesterday and worked on some cards for the rest of the day. I tried to place an order with Walmart and there are no pickup slots early in the day until late in the week. Might as well shop for myself but I am busy watering morning and night now. The wind really dried everything out today.
Anne and Jackie, I am sorry for the very bad heat in your areas. I hope people and pups stay safe and healthy.
Anne, glad to hear of your yummy garden grown broccoli. I had a few green beans and a couple of marble sized potatoes today. Loved them. I hacked down the last of my lettuce and planted a few new seeds. Wonder if they will sprout in this weather?
No rain expected here for the remainder of the week although some areas may get a sprinkle on Friday.
Sandy, love the photo. Those kids are so long-legged. Amazing! Glad you had a good time.
Barbie, hi!
Patsy, hello to you as well.
Still missing posts on MFP. For example, I didn’t see Anne’s poem until a day after she posted it. Same as happened with Patsy’s posts. I do refresh the page so I don’t know what is going on.
Wishing everyone well.
Cherry tomatoes are starting up a bit faster now. Yummy.
Teapot of the day
And I cut up that piece I was working on. I do like the layers of blue. Here’s a card I made from a piece of it.

Happy Wednesday! Another hot day but not sure I will go to pool. I have a problem with my eye, I have some pain in the inner corner and a sort of water blister under my eye so I am going to call my eye doctor to see if he can either see me or prescribe something. I also have therapy today so the pool might wait until the weekend. There's always something isn't there? Growing old is not for sissies.
Lin, I am not a fan of tomatoes but your cherry tomatoes look really good. Love your hello card and your tea pots always amaze me. Yes, my son's children are all very tall but he is 6'3". Not sure what the problem is with you not seeing some posts until later. Do you close your browser when you are done?
Jackie, we used to get a plastic kiddy pool for Daisy so she could put her feet in it when hot. She used to love to lay in the hot sun but of course wouldn't let her do that for long. We also used to get her a puppy cut during the summer to try to keep her cool. I hate to tell you what Ewok did but I will. They were in yard with kiddos and one of them said Ewok had a hamster in his mouth while the other said a turtle. Turns out he had a baby rabbit and the adults couldn't catch him and he bit it and swallowed it whole. Then ran back to the hole and grabbed another one before anyone knew what was happening. Also ate that one. He did not get sick but I felt so bad for the bunnies and their mommy. I am glad it was on their watch and not mine because I would have gotten sick. Circle of life.
Anne, when I had my blood drawn the guy wasn't as good as the lady that used to do it so I feel your pain. Sorry it is so hot for you and Jackie, when not prepared it can be brutal and dangerous. Stay in and keep cool.
Patsy, that had to be scary for Damon coming close to the bridge, good that he is a good navigator.
Sorry about the sail and all the work it is going to take to repair. We will all want to see your finished painting and hopefully it will relieve anxiety for all of us.
Hi Barbie.
Have a good day.

Happy Wednesday from here as well. Only in the low 80’s right now. But hotter later on.
I need to look at my August list of needed cards. There are quite a few birthdays. A number of online card makers are doing Christmas cards now so they aren’t swamped in December. I do have my materials out again. I will get to them one of these weeks! 😁
Sandy, I am sorry to hear of your eye issue. I hope you find out what is going on soon. How’s Babe by the way? Any progress on the dizziness? And by the way, I don’t use a browser for MFP, I use the app. So no idea why posts show up a day late. I just don’t want to offend anyone.
Hope everyone has an okay day and you are staying cool!

I’ve been to Betty’s for tea and cakes with my aunt who lives in North Yorkshire. A beautiful tea shop.
Beautiful cherry tomatoes that would go very well with my cucumber!
It was foggy when I got up this morning and so thick I stopped before I got to the top moor with George and Betty because otherwise I thought we might get lost. Of course with fog comes cool air so it was a shock to our systems but I was relieved for Betty because I could hear her rapid panting in the night and worried she would have a heart attack. I’m finally getting round to my own garden projects and spent a couple of hours pruning this afternoon.
Oh dear, the worst of the worst is my only comment on the two candidates to be our next PM!
Yuck Sandy, that’s exactly what Huskies do isn’t it! Occasionally I see a young man walking his two and he warns me one or the other is running about with a bunny in his mouth! I won’t begin to describe what remains I found Brady enjoying on my dining room floor last night… one of the reasons I chose tiles rather than carpet! The heat was a problem because we don’t have air conditioning but I heard on the news this morning that sales of units had gone up 700% yesterday! I few years ago I bought a kiddie paddling pool for George because he had been in the one Scruff’s mum Jill had in her garden but he refused to get in it so I gave it away.
Battery is low and I daren’t turn back so may have missed posts but will come back later after an important ladies football match between England and Spain.

Good day to you all. We currently have a marine layer that is keeping us cool but it is humid of course. As this marine layer burns off, we have a very warm afternoon ahead of us. Oh well! Hummmm! Our lunatics in Washington still fight the notion of doing something active about climate change. California is taking the lead here. I believe they are outlawing plastic bottles etc.I have not checked on the status of that effort. At last report it was a go!
Most dogs will chase anything that runs. It must be part of that instinct leftover from their hunting days. Katie eats a lot of things that make me crazy. Tissues, cardboard, plastic, sticks and sometimes she finds Poop of course brings it in to show us. She bites baby birds, chases squirrels and all birds. I don’t like it but as John says, Katie has different priorities than we do. Work with it!
Let me tell you…that house that is being swallowed up by plant, vines, and bushes has a familiar look to me. That will be my destiny in a few short years. Aaaaaargh!
This unprecedented heat is going to change our way of life. I am really doing a lot of research on drapery. Since photovoltaic panels can be so toxic, I have ruled them out. Damon thinks we should look into windmills. He is doing research for us as well. Electricity is expensive but still affordable right now. However that’s not the point. We have changed our buying habits and now we need to work on our energy consumption. It feels good to try to find options that make us good stewards of our planet. I know….blaablaablaaa!

Morning all. Last evening was interesting. After another very hot day we had red warnings on the tv and sure enough a terrific thunderstorm which even had my brave little Jilly cuddled up to me. Tornado warnings as well, but I've yet to find out if any touched down. Alls calm today and my hanging basket of geraniums brought inside are all looking relieved as well. Quite perky in fact in the back room.
Oh JACKIE, enough said, I presume you will understand after yesterdays vote.
I've been to Bettys tea room quite often as well LIN. Happy days with my beautiful cousin Val who loved real cream cake slices. Me too. Memories now and especially as I'm on the DASH diet which was designed for high blood pressure. Its very similar to how I've always eaten if you forget real cream slices!
One thing about Pandemics. rising food and fuel costs PATSY it keeps the little grey cells working as we try to figure out how to stretch our resources and comfort zones.
Must fly before the grocery lady/man appears

Hi SANDY and BARBIE,
Anne.0 -
Happy Thursday! Meeting today and then some errands including getting my car cleaned inside and out. Hope to stop at furniture store to look at couches and maybe get some flowers for the front of my building even though I am a renter. The mint plant I have on my balcony is growing so fast and takes so much water from my self watering pots. The lavender is also doing great and the African Violet is still alive. That's the extent of my gardening. I will try to find a picture of the flowers I had when at the house. Everyone loved them.
Anne, glad you are safe from the storm and Jilly is calmed down.
Have a great day.

A gorgeous day so once again I took George and Betty for their walk before breakfast. There was a breeze on the moors so George ran zoomies and Betty looked a lot happier being able to breath. Mine was the only car in the car park and not even horse riders about so we walked a wide loop in about 40 minutes then it was back home for breakfast.
Linda messaged to let me know she had loaded 6 paving slabs in the back of her car for me to use round my raised beds and when she arrived and we had managed to wheelbarrow them one at a time to my cottage, I invited her in for coffee and afterwards to see that all her potted flowering plants are doing well in their corner of my garden. I persuaded her to take a beautiful Calla lily home to enjoy because it was barely showing itself when we dug it up but is now flowering a deep red colour. Half a dozen eggs and a cucumber from my greenhouse were also placed in her car. She remains emotional about having to remove 5 years of hard work but I’m hoping when she gets involved in her new garden she’ll begin to feel better.
Sandy, the garden at your house was stunning! I particularly love the twisted conifer that looks like an ice cream cone. 😁
As ever Patsy, you made me giggle when you commented that you see your home becoming like the plant covered house in Lin’s picture. Maybe not so funny if you can’t find a gardening business to hire in. I watched some of the world athletics competition from Oregon for the past few days but get the impression from the small crowds in a large stadium that it’s not a favourite sport in America.
That was a nasty storm for little Jilly and you to listen to Anne, especially if there was talk of a tornado. Very little rain in Cornwall but I’m not wishing with crossed fingers because I’m sure once the weather breaks we’ll get weeks of the wet stuff!
Deep breath, I nearly lost my post! 😲
Time to prepare chicken salad and feed the pets their evening meal.
Hello Lin and Barbie 😃

Good afternoon, watched part of the press conference pertaining to the President’s Covid diagnosis but I couldn’t stand it for long. The Press is obnoxious and many of the questions absurd and not worth anyone’s attention.
It was cloudy for a while this morning but it cleared off and we are in the 90’s now. Apparently it will be even hotter the next several days. Lots of watering again in my future. I did plant the zucchini seeds today. I do wonder if anything will sprout in this beating down heat.
At night the cicadas are yelling. Which seems early. And every time I go out of the house now, another fly comes in with me. I just dug out my old fly swatter. I am pleased to say this morning’s fly is no more! Several friends have said they are troubled with wasps near their doors. I prefer tame houseflies!
Anne, oh my goodness, a bad storm indeed. I am glad you and Jilly are okay now. Did all of your veggies make it through? Oh, and did you ever get to the garden center to purchase the things you needed?
Jackie, it sounds like you had a good morning with George and Betty. You are a very good friend to Linda. She should count her blessings. Free of the nasty man and help from friends and family. All sounds good to me.
Sandy, lovely house and landscaping. Unless I am mistaken, those are spectacular red cannas in the big white pots? If not, what are they. Very showy! I hope you got time to get to the furniture store. Are you having your car detailed?
Patsy, happy day to you. I don’t think your house will be swallowed up by vines. 😁 Katie will run through them and keep them at bay.
Barbie, hello—is Jake doing okay?
I did some chores around the house and then started trying to design what I want in a Thanksgiving card. I have some pumpkins that are stamped, cut out with an added green stem but that is just one element. Lots to add to finish the front of the card. Again, I have discovered some things I do not like. Hunting for the right shade of brown paper for a sort of oak leaf.
Be safe everyone.
