Good afternoon. Our muggy day is under high thin clouds. We have a couple more days of this and then we are in for it! Clouds will disappear and ol Mr. Sol will come. And bring his scary killing heat. I really dread that. We have not prepared for intense heat.

I guess I will keep the dinner salad bowl out for regular use for a few days. No turning on the stove for any reason except to cook Katie’s chicken and veggies.

MFP is acting very odd today. The comment box is a skinny little box that holds two lines. Then it pushes everything up. I can’t see what I wrote. Full of mistakes and misspellings, I am sure.

Trash day today. I need to get rid of some antique food. I feel bad to waste food but at this point it is toxic waste. What was I thinking when I shoved this in back of the refrigerator?

Sandy: great landscaping and Wonderful flowers. I would have hated to leave them but times were different then and we all make difficult decisions. Bless your heart.

Lin: getting involved in a creative project is time consuming and life affirming. It is the most positive thing I can think of.

Jackie: gardening is also one of those time consuming and life affirming activities. It is also creative and life sustaining. I have very little patience or talent in this regard. My abilities in growing anything is in the nature of weeds and uncontrolled plant life.

This odd way of adding comment is causing me to go cross eyed and batty.

Not to me LIN. Is it a milk cart or an ice cream van? I had a super milkman in Derbyshire. I was on the last of his rounds and if he had cream etc left over he would share with me and his own family. Paid him back when we emigrated. The last I saw of my gas oven was on the back of his van.

LIN thanksgiving cards in the making, lovely! Thanksgiving seems a long way off because:

Its horrendously hot here. I went out to look at my beets etc and everything was wilting. The shadows are lengthening so I decided to water. I was only out for about 10 minutes but came back in as red as the beetroot stalks. There's a heat alert on my mobile for this area. Low 90s. I didn't have Bean with me and for once she didn't ask to come out with me.

We will have to call you the sleeping beauty PATSY if your house becomes like Lins photo! However you won't have to buy heat reducing drapes. All the foliage will keep you, John and Katie lovely and cool.

I guess my new neighbours will be gone in another 5 days! Lots of activity going on and in this heat.

A shame you and Babe no longer have your house and pretty garden SANDY.

    Anne.

:) We have sunny breezy weather in the high 60's but will be warmer next week. Zucchini and tomato plants are thriving but a long wait for any actual zuccini or tomatoes. We have nearly perfected our simple low sodium eating plan.

Lin, you are right they are cannas although Babe's mother called them potatoes since the bulb looked like a potato. We dug them out each winter and kept the bulbs in a burlap bag in the basement. They really were beautiful. I loved decorating that house inside and out.

    Anne, an ice cream truck……

    From their web site:

    “An Iconic British Brand
The Tonibell story actually began in 1937, when Italian born Toni Pignatelli founded his ice cream manufacturing business, Tonis. By the late 1950s, Toni was delivering ice cream around the streets of Basildon and in the 1960s, the company was rebranded as Tonibell using a combination of Toni and the Italian word Bellissima, reflecting his belief ice cream should be a fun & tasty experience!

By the 70s, the old blue colours had gone and Tonibell became a familiar sight with their distinctive bright pink vans, the Tonibell Cow and familiar chimes. The company continued to expand, becoming a household name and a truly iconic part of British culture throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s. Operators were all given the cherished 'Tonibell Passport to Success' with the expectation that everyone worked to offer the same high standards and outstanding service that is still at the forefront of our business today.”

Thanks Sandy, I had some Cannas too. The tubers got quite large. I cut them apart and stored them on the basement over the winter. They were so exotic looking. Loved them.

We are about to walk while my washing machine works it’s way through laundry that for some reason didn’t switch on in the early hours.

Lin, this is one of our local ice cream vans.
    gr6zf5u2r6om.jpeg

They drive slowly through the village playing a sing-song chime to let people know where they are. For years our tune was The Sun has got its hat on, hip, hip, hip, hooray… drove me mad because I would be humming it for the rest of the day! Currently Popeye the sailor man!

Time to go. It’s another beautiful day. 🌞

Breezy on the moors but mild and just as we got going, Heather with Bella arrived so we walked together. Bella remains on her lead while the bracken continues to spring up but it’s a long one so she can sniff and explore. My washing is hanging out to dry, I’ve enjoyed Muesli and fruit breakfast with my coffee and will now vacuum and tidy the cottage, starting upstairs.

Back to the ice cream delivery truck, my maternal great grandfather’s summer business was making ice cream and selling it from the front window of his home but he also delivered to local pubs and hotels in London. Apparently a lot of large blocks of ice were required to keep it frozen on his cart! During Winter months he and great grandma held dance classes in a hired hall. Here he is child minding his grandchildren. That’s my mother leaning against his knee.
    cwlh0k0197ar.jpeg

I’ve realised the window I type in becomes squashed after I click on the Save Draft box but I’m losing fewer posts.

My vacuum cleaner calls so I had better get motivated.

    Happy Friday Sneakers.

I had a terrible night. Absolutely no sleep because of a food allergy. I've asked Mike not to come over because I feel so shattered. However I have to tell you I tottered out with the garbage and when I walked back a bird and a chipmunk were drinking the dirty water in Jilly's outdoor doggie bowl. So I HAD to replenish the bowl of course and then finished up watering the veggies. We are under another heat warming. The birds love my bird bath in this heat. I think we get a break on Sunday with another thunderstorm.

Yes, we had an ice cream van deliver down our street LIN. Can't remember what the tune was, but I dreaded its arrival on the day before payday and the kids off school for summer break.

I can hardly keep my eyes open so had better stop.

    ❤️ to all, Anne.

Anne, so sorry about your night of misery. ❤️❤️ Amazing that you got through your outdoor chores. Lucky birdies and critters. Fresh water. We had a bit of rain overnight so I didn’t water this morning. Heat advisory on the way and some risk for severe storms. I will keep my cherry tomatoes picked!

Sandy, did you get any treatment for your eye problem?

Jackie, I saw that photo of a vintage ice cream truck and I found it charming. The person who shared it thought it was from the ‘50s but wasn’t certain. I thought perhaps it was something seen on every street corner. The modern truck is quite appealing. I can see children bothering parents for money. We did not have ice cream trucks in our neighborhood. Too much driving for few children I guess.

What a marvelous story about the family history of making ice cream in the summer. And what a delightful photo. Thanks for sharing!

Today we have a cloud cover before our heat returns tomorrow. I am taking this opportunity to trim Katie’s nails. I didn’t get it done on our last grooming session. This will be a busy lo g day. Vacuuming, and it is cauliflower pizza night. It is such a tradition (habit) that it really begins the weekend for us.

Now for the bad scary news. Our hospital is full again and there is a Covid and variants outbreak in the hospital and in all care homes in our area. John and I need to stay as healthy as possible. There is no where to go for help. We have some friends that are using telemedicine instead of in person doctor visits. They love it. They use their iPad or iPhone or laptop to chat and show the doctor any thing that needs examining. Their phone relays pulse and blood pressure readings. Also they have some way to listen to heart and lungs. No exposure to BA-5 or Covid. But if required they must zip into see the doc in person. This works for a certain type of person. Not everyone is comfortable with this.

Anne: my dear friend! Do you have any idea about what is causing your allergic reaction? One of Katie’s favorite things is to drink water from our little creek. It often runs with icky dirty water….again her favorite! Makes me crazy trying to keep her from eating or drinking nasty things. Get well soon and rest. Please do not work in that dangerous heat. Bad for your blood pressure my friend.

Jackie: what great family history. And photos as well! We did not have an ice cream truck. We had to make ice cream ourselves in the hand cranked ice cream maker. I have no idea where or how we got ice. We always seem to have rock salt for some reason. It was a rare treat as I remember. We had some Jersey cows that we milked and sold milk and cream also eggs to the creamery. Not sure why we didn’t make more ice cream. We certainly had cream.

Lin: it appears you and I were the country girls. We were a rough and ready bunch. Riding horses and even though we had a huge wonderful garden, my gran planted flowers in rows among the veggies. (?) she would take huge bunches of flowers to the church and there were always flowers on the kitchen table. No elegant flower beds but I do remember spring onions and mint growing in a bed next to the back door.

:) Jake's daughter and her family (husband and boys age 11 and 13) are in town for a few days. This morning she came for a visit and lunch and the boys explored the town. In a few minutes we'll take them to dinner at a restaurant that we like that has food Jake can eat and stay within his low sodium requirements. It will be pricey but it will be the best for all of us.

:) On Sunday they have reservations to go to Vancouver Island where they have a house rented for a week.

Good Friday Evening! :) I guess I forgot to post earlier but it has been a hectic day. Babe woke up with chills and a fever. I had a therapy appointment at 11:30 I didn't want to miss. I took a home covid test on him and it was negative so I was safe to go. The session was over an hour and I stopped at Walmart for three things. I also started the laundry when I got up and finished when I got home, all except the sheets since Babe stayed in bed all day.
I thought I told you I called the eye doctor and he wanted me to come in asap. I have a stye in my eye and he gave me a ZPack to take for 5 days and to call him Monday. No alcohol while I take this antibiotic so I should lose a little weight. (I hope)
After I got home Babe's fever was down from taking Tylenol but he was still pretty dizzy. I spend some time deciding on couches I saw at another store while my car was being done. I will be ordering them probably Monday after I talk to the people who pick up our garbage because I had emailed them and asked them if the took old couches. They allow two bulky items per week and a small charge if there is a third. I have to call and make the arrangements for what day so I can have my son and a friend take them out to the curb. Hopefully I can arrange for the new ones to come the next day.
We had a small family game night on the computer tonight and it was really fun once I figured out what I was doing.
Bryanna is on her way home from Florida and I was picking her up at 9:30pm but her flight was delayed for two hours but I said I would still pick her up. She just texted that they are on the plane but not moving because of weather so we decided she should take a Lyft home instead. Speaking of Bryanna who is 27, she decided on a new look and shaved her head to a crewcut so she can have different colors.
She showed me a picture and she looks so different but best to do these things when you are young and get them out of your system.
I think you are all caught up so I will wish you a good night and will post in the morning.

Hello Sneakers. What causes my allergies PATSY? I think the culprit is tomatoes. Anyway I have to stay off them for 4 weeks and if nothing happens in that time, eat tomatoes for a whole week. Well that should do it!!! The bad news is I've got an explosion of green tomatoes ripening in the garden. Beefsteak, cherry you name it. What am I going to do with them all! because Mary Jo has been diagnosed with leaching of calcium in the bones, osteoarthritis and is off tomatoes as well. Its happened, as it often does, after menopause. I guess the neighbours will benefit both here and MJs place. However the doctor delivered good news via a phone call. The vampire nurse who caused a whopping bruise on my arm at least brought good news. Nothing wrong with the kidneys, platelets okay and potassium right were it should be.

Skipping rope rhymes, ah yes! However having come from an area of scruffy little urchins in my childhood most are definitely not for the eyes of us refined ladies. I remember a whole slew of rhyming skipping rope rhymes. Isn't it funny how you remember the naughty stuff.

Did you know SANDY that stroking milk on a sty or red eye have them gone in no time. A war remedy which actually works. Used it for my kids and all the neighbours kids when their doctors stuff didn't work.
Oh no! Bryanna's gone bald? Well it will grow in no time I guess. Unless she likes the army look.

Lucky JACKIE having a granddad who made ice cream! I used to have a go with leftover cream and milk from my father-in-laws dairy farm or from the milkman later. However it wasn't the same as the stuff bought off the ice cream van according to the lads.

Well must away, Mike will be over later now I'm back in action.

Have a lovely [if boiling hot] Saturday Sneakers.
    Anne.

Happy Saturday! :) It seems there were storms all around us but I think it missed us. The sun is shining now and hopefully will stay out so I can go to pool. Washing the sheets but already put on new sheets.
Have a video call with family at 12:30 and then will see if the sun is still out, otherwise it will just be a stay in rest day.

Anne, sorry to hear you had an allergic reaction, maybe not tomatoes but something outside? They say allergies are the worst this year. You can always donate to a homeless shelter if they still take food donations. I didn't realize tomatoes were bad for your bones, who knew? And can I use 2% milk to stroke my eye? It is better with the ZPack and hopefully swelling will be gone by Monday.

Barbie, enjoy your time with family, I bet Jake is thrilled to see his grandkids as you must be.

Patsy, sorry your state is having another surge and please be careful. I prefer to go in person to see my doctors but telemedicine is a good alternative. Good luck with the grooming and nail clipping, something I was always afraid to do. Did Damon get his sailboat repaired?

Lin, we are also under a heat wave which always seems to bring storms. I remember the ice cream truck coming down our street and asking my mom for money to buy something. When I was at the pool last week I heard the music of an ice cream truck and said out loud is that an ice cream truck to which several kids said I hear it too and as it was passing one mom told it to stop so she could buy her kids some ice cream. Fun memories.

Jackie, your great grandfather was a dapper fellow, all dressed up in suit and hat. Great photo of him and your mom. Once you click on the window it becomes normal again. I love the save draft as I can go back to the last page without worry of losing the post.

    Have a great day everyone.

Hello. Woooo! Hot🥵 about 100 degrees and windy. All the vegetables are wilting. Storms may fire up later. I have brought in green beans, cherry tomatoes, an onion and an entire stalk of celery. I cleaned the celery and I am pleased. It is quite tasty now, the stalks are very sturdy and quite large.

I have been texting and Facebook messaging with another gardening friend who lives in this area. She also has been bringing in everything that is ready as she is convinced we will have a major storm tonight.

No progress on a design for fall cards. I have sent for a few pieces of paper for a probable base layer. Will wait until it arrives before proceeding. I did switch over to Christmas cards. I have finished the fronts of 2 dozen cards and have been cutting out pieces so I can work on the rest of the cards. I hope to have 50 when I finish. The sentiment I plan to stamp inside each card is ready to go.

Nothing else going on here today.

Anne, glad you are feeling better. Sorry about the tomatoes. I am sure you will have no problem giving them away. And I hope you had a nice day today.

Sandy, did you get to the pool? Was it busy? Glad your eye is getting better. You have many irons in the fire with the furniture. Best wishes in getting it all sorted out.

    Barbie, enjoy the company. ❤️❤️

Patsy, I hope the grooming of Katie went well.

Jackie, what’s new in your neighborhood? I saw a segment on CBS morning news today from the BBC about a gent in Blackpool who keeps himself and his house in the 1930’s. Very interesting vintage kitchen appliances. I see he has been interviewed many times over the years. He looks the part for certain!

I love this picture that Kerry posted today of dear departed Max.

It is midnight so I’m already in Sunday! It was a cool Saturday with showers on and off and windy too so more housework but a rather lazy time after that was completed. I have gone through more clothes in order to sort into piles for charity, junk or me! Our doggy walk was blustery and I stopped to chat with Heather and Bella then a bit further on, David. He was going home to do more painting in his cottage and I thought next time I must ask if he ever takes a day off, listens to music or reads. He was quite excited about looking after a neighbour’s cat and hens for the weekend because she had urgent business to deal with in London. He’d apparently driven into town before walking, to buy a bag of lettuce for the chooks!

Anne, when we were younger milk was the real thing before it became pasteurised or homogenised so I wonder if there is any natural goodness left to fight off a stye. I have to hunt high and low for natural yogurt if the farm shop runs out of the local dairy’s. Buzz mentioned she had to avoid tomatoes because they increased her arthritic pain levels so there is something in that.

Lin, in the past I’ve seen the 1930’s home on a tv programme but better still is a family living with 1950’s decor that is very bright and cheery, right down to Formica table tops! Fabulous celery you’ve grown. I tried last year at the allotment but it very quickly went to seed and became chewy. My peas are finally forming in their pods and I’m sure today’s rain will help to. I steamed a few last night but probably eat more raw while preparing them. You are finding delightful tea set pictures with the matching roses as well as never to be forgotten Max.

Sandy, no mention of Babe so I hope that’s a good sign that he is feeling better. I have tried tapping the window but remain squeezed. Tonight it’s hiding the top of my post! It seems anything goes today with hairstyles and colours. Bryanna is a beautiful girl so I’m sure she will easily get away with a cropped look, like Demi Moore in the movie Ghost!

Patsy, I’m sorry your Covid numbers are rising yet again. You don’t seem to have had any relief from it since the pandemic arrived. I’m aware our infection rate is high again but it rarely gets a mention and I wonder if that’s a deliberate political ploy to get us all catching it in the Summer months rather than Winter. Everyone over 50 will be offered a booster in the Autumn but I’m going to wait to see which variant we’re dealing with before saying yes or no.

    Way past my bedtime.

:) Our weekend with the family went very well thanks to Jake taking an active roll in planning including figuring out what we could serve them for lunch today. When daughter arrived, she asked if there was anything she could do to help and Jake asked her to vacuum which she did well and cheerfully. Husband and sons helped with the necessary moving of table and chairs to accommodate six people instead of the usual two. The two boys ages 13 and 11 were amazingly easy to get along with and happy with whatever was going on including the food that was served to them. They didn't say much but seemed to be OK with everything that was going on. There was a mention that one of the boys enjoyed lifting weights so I gave them my wonderful adjustable dumbbell set that I haven't used since before my back surgery in 2016. Silly me. I wasted time fretting for nothing. Our weather here has been mild and overcast so I didn't miss being out in the yard in the afternoon either today or yesterday. I was able to do my morning walks as usual.

    Morning all.
BARBIE, you had a wonderful successful visit! The boys sound really nice lads and Jakes daughter to do the vacuuming! Who can ask for more!

Michael rolled up at 4pm straight from work and Bean was ecstatic! Most unexpected. They went off for a walk but not very far because it was really hot and humid at 33 degrees. 98F. A little cooler today but not much with thunderstorms for most of the day and a heat warning still posted. A day to stay in and do the Monday wash!

My father in law gave up the dairy herd when the new regulations arrived JACKIE. He was out of pocket so the farm became crop growing instead, mainly peas which he sold to Birds Eye. Fancy you might have eaten F-I-Ls peas in the past!
There is most definitely a connection between tomatoes and arthritis plus. It was first diagnosed in England after a farmer noticed some of his cows could barely stand. Research was done and it was found his cows were eating Deadly Nightshade [Belladonna] in the hedgerows and tomatoes are of the deadly nightshade group of plants. Thats why one should never eat the green bits on potato skins. Anyway, out of curiosity I ate half a tomato with my lunch and sure enough my tummy cramps came back but in a much milder form. Goodbye tomatoes and a food bank sounds a good idea SANDY if I can find one that is! Mary Jo is no longer eating them either after her diagnosis.
The good news is, tomatoes being such a staple for most westerners the allergy part affects very few people. However the arthritic problems can hit most of us [and cows] hence Buzz's diagnosis. So we can all enjoy potatoes, another member of the same group, as long as we don't eat the sprouting and green bits.
Golly, if I knew how it would have been easier to have copied all this and printed here!

If this heat continues I may well copy Bryanna SANDY and go for a buzz cut except she's a darn sight prettier than me!

PATSY and John, please stay safe! Mikes friend now has Corvid for the third time. Could the outbreak be why your gardeners didn't show up?

LIN, you should be safe, happy with your hobbies, but please still take care. LOVE your veggies especialy the celery which for me is hard to grow.

No rain yet but its very dark.
    Anne.

:)Anne, how lovely that Bean has company that she adores. I am a great fan of tomatoes and am grateful every day that I have no ill affects from them. Jake has to avoid both potatoes and tomatoes because of potassium which is bad for him. We have a beautiful tomato plant in our raised bed with tiny green tomatoes and many flowers.

:) I'm off for my walk---15 minutes with Bessie and 90 minutes by myself followed by going for grocery pickup.

Hello sneakers. It’s another wet and blowy day so we only walked round the village and have since been enjoying a quiet Sunday. I was waiting for the rain to ease earlier before walking and decided to view the video of last week’s local council meeting. I wish I hadn’t because what was being said about the allotments, including one lie after another from Mr Nasty, left me with dropped jaw. While we finally walked I gave myself a talking to…it’s not my problem anymore, nothing I say will change anything anyway, leave them to dig a large hole to fall into!
I was right about my pea pods swelling with all this rain and two more cucumbers are nearly ready to pick. They’re both curling slightly and wouldn’t pass quality control on a commercial basis but I won’t complain. Who ever decided they have to be straight in the first place? It’s just as well I can eat tomatoes because there are pounds and pounds hanging off the plants. I gather the heat will return next week so I’m not complaining about today’s rain. It might even fill the water butts!

Anne, when I moved into this cottage in 1988 there was a dairy farm on the outskirts of our town and when I needed cream and butter I drove to the farmhouse and popped into the kitchen to buy them. Their clotted cream was delicious but then European rules came into play and most dairy farmers were forced out of business. Nothing ever tasted the same again! Well done your father in law for diversifying.

Barbie, I’m so pleased for you and Jake that the visit went well. They certainly sound like a lovely family but we are all a bit out of practice when it comes to hosting visitors so I understand any apprehension. I have to think twice about how to serve coffee and cake after all our lockdowns!

I’ve been telling myself I could start painting my bedroom that needs freshening up after the builder fitted the loo in the old airing cupboard but a cup of tea is more enticing!

    Happy Sunday everyone.

Happy Sunday! :) More rain during the night and a cloudy day so not sure if the sun will come out for a pool day. Watched mass on TV and now catching up on the computer. Nothing exciting at all.

Jackie, I think you need a day of rest after all you do. Best stay away from those videos of the council meetings, it will only raise your blood pressure. What goes around comes around he will get his one day.
So are you saying I shouldn't rub my eye with 2% milk? It is getting better but still a little sore and a little swollen under my eye. I am finished with the antibiotic so will give it a few days to heal. My eye doctor wants me to call him tomorrow and let him know how I am doing so hopefully I don't have to go back to his office. I also have therapy tomorrow so too much driving around. Babe is feeling better, thanks for asking.

Barbie, 90 minutes? I am lucky if I can walk for an hour before my back acts up. I wish I could walk more but at least I can ride my recumbent bike for an hour. I am glad you and Jake were able to be with family after such a long period with the pandemic. I am sure his daughter and family were very happy to see both of you.

Anne, I am not a big fan of tomatoes unless on a hot dog which I seldom eat so I am good. My allergy seems to be from dairy products which is sad because I love ice cream. I do buy dairy free ice cream and sometimes dairy free milk, like oat milk so we adjust.

Lin, yes, I did get to pool yesterday and it was wonderful, I even swam a little which I normally don't do.
I prefer floating in my blowup chair but it was so beautiful yesterday I couldn't resist.
Co-ordinating the furniture removal and delivery of new furniture will be tricky but worse case scenario is that we have to watch TV in the bedroom.

    Hi Patsy.

Have a great Sunday and do something fun for yourself.

Hello! A very hot day and a week or more is predicted. I am not going to enjoy this at all. Shades down, lights off, fans blowing and the little room a/c working its little heart out. With all the fans it will be impossible to hear music or tv or the radio. Reading quietly and slogging around doing exercise and house work will be what things will look like.

I am in a bad mood because of a sleepless night. I had neuropathy in my feet and hands. I wish I could blame those wonderful tomatoes but I have eaten them all my life. They are basic in Tex-mex food. And Cajun and creole. John las learned to love this kind of food. Spicy with lots of tomato based foods. I keep my blood sugars as low as possible. That also is a balancing act.

We have a very large dairy operation across the road from us. 400 dairy cows, mainly Jersey but also another kind of milk cow, I can’t remember the breed. They sell milk to make the famous Tillamook cheese. The cows also entice a constant interest from coyotes and eagles. This is very upsetting for the families with chickens, small goats, even small dogs and cats. Katie is cautious when she hears or smells them in the neighborhood.

Damon is sailing…I fear it will be an exhausting day for him. Might not have much wind on such a hot day. Andrea is dealing with hubbies aches and pains. His dementia causes physical aches and pains as well as cognitive issues. I wish I could be more helpful to my daughter. She has huge responsibilities. I will try to keep an eye out for any little way we can assist.

Our national news remains scary and the weather is frightful. I just cross my fingers we all remain safe during these horrible heat spells. But! We have ordered more TV series. We often rewatch purchased dvds. We recently rewatched Sucsession. Wow! Shocking and breathtaking drama. A peep into how the 1% live. We cannot see Netflix etc because we don’t have high speed internet in
    our area.
    Drink lots of water….seriously!

Good evening. Yippee! Another dozen card fronts finished today. Hurrah! And all the needed pieces are cut out for the final dozen. Hope to get to those soon. Then on to stamping sentiments. Can you tell I am eager to make progress?

I watched church online today. Corresponded with a few people and I cooked this. My first good-sized purple potato of the season. And looking forward to more.

Barbie, happy to hear you had a very nice visit and it was good of you to think of giving the boys the weights. Something to make everyone happy.

Patsy, sorry to hear of your discomfort. I wish I could help. ❤️❤️ There used to be lots of dairies in this state. My ex-hubby was raised on a farm with a small dairy (Grade B I believe) and they always drank raw milk. When we married, we hunted for a farmer who would be willing to sell us milk. There was a Grade A dairy around the corner from where we lived for a couple of years and he was willing to sell milk to us. When we moved again, we had to switch to pasteurized ‘town’ milk. When we had raw milk, I would make my own butter from time to time. It was illegal of course. And it made no difference to me as I was raised on milk from a carton. Oh, and the predominant cow around here is/was the Holstein.

Sandy, we didn’t get much rain here but we got something better. A cold wave went through and our high temperature today was in the 80’s rather than 99! Lovely. Hope you had a great day!

Jackie, how miserable to run across Mr. Nasty and his lies. He just doesn’t stop. I hope you took an easy day today. There is always work and it never stops. I was contemplating ways to add to my potential for year round vegetables. The not great indoor light I have does not even produce good lettuce. I doubt I could afford a small greenhouse that is up to snuff on all city regulations. In the end, I ordered several additional pounds of seeds to grow sprouts, which I love! So my supplies include bags of dried beans and a big bag of rice for staples and a lot of seeds to sprout for vegetables.

That’s about it. I need to get to the library and the grocery store tomorrow.

Be safe everyone. Wishing everyone happy days.

    ❤️❤️

:)Lin, one of my neighbors sent me a beautiful personally made card with a handwritten message to say how sorry she was about Sasha. The card made me think of you and all the beautiful cards and how much your friends much appreciate them.

:)Sandy, I am grateful every day for how well my back has recovered from surgery and compression fracture. I walk every day and ride my exercise bike for hours. I am very careful with yard work because I work on my knees bending over and limit my time to 60 to 90 minutes so I don't overdo.

:) It felt so good today today to be back to my regular routine.

Me too BARBIE in a different sort of way. After the never to be forgotten Harry left and the Afghan family moved in; my quiet life was gone. Mind you preferable to the never to be forgotten Harry [still no mosquito's buzzing around with his rain barrel gone with him]. Don't get me wrong, they are very nice people, but every night 7 or 8 cars and a motorcycle would show up. A very large family, Mom, Dad, 6 grown kids and numerous grandkids and dogs! So for the past week much activity going on once it gets dusk. Yesterday, the flat bed trailer parked on the drive was loaded with boxes etc twice and is now back empty. Jilly Bean and I had a quiet night with apparently no one at home in Khalids house, just an old car parked on the drive so folk would think they were in. We really think for sure the family make their living by buying and selling. Each one sold for profit in the rising housing market. They remind me of the Romany gipsies who rolled up overnight at my father in laws farm for summer field work, and just as quietly left when the harvest was in. They lived in the traditional painted wagons but thats another story!

So, Bean and I await with bated breath to see who shows up next. We know its a family for a four bedroom house. But, more importantly Bean wants to know if any more huge dogs will arrive!

Meanwhile back at our cottage some beets are ready for the old tummy and I must pick the broccoli.

Have a good day dear Sneakers,
    Anne.

Zowie! It is hot outside…and not actually comfortable inside. I understand we have a full week of very hot weather. This will require ice chips in Katie’s water bowl and a big glass of iced lemon water for me to sip on as I go about my little chores. John is off to Walmart this afternoon. I am making chicken salad for our dinner.

I had a big giggle reading about Anne’s neighbors. There could be a terrible war going on in our neighborhood and unless bullets hit our windows, I would never get that message. I have never been interested in the comings and goings of the neighbors. ( boring neighbors!) I do keep up on the news and I have so many unfinished projects as well as a list of things I must do just to stay “in business” here. My exercise program is always my big neglected item. No matter what, I need to do more in that regard. Baaaaaaaad Patsy! (Boring Patsy)

Lin: that purple potato looks interesting. We love the Yukon Gold potato’s and of course yams and sweet potatoes. Does the purple have a distinctive taste? One of the most interesting green houses around our area is one made from all manner of recycled windows. Many still operational that can be opened or shut. Some windows have stained glass panels of different colors. The whole building looks strange and oddly cobbled together. I love it. But I would say, in general it could have been planned better. It could have been much more attractive. It was lovingly a
work in progress for several years.

Barbie: I am impressed with the visit from family. I would have been up to my eyelashes in cooking and cleaning and planning etc. when they left, I would collapse in a heap, exhausted and wondering what happened? As we all know, I make a lot of unnecessary work for myself.
